A true master and yet such a nice man who does not bring any ego to the game.........truly in service to the music as he expresses all the human emotions contained within the pieces he plays with such polish and intelligence!
Have been listening to Feinberg's Sonata 1-3 for the past 5 years, STILL trying to master his pieces and intricate harmony. This rendition is genuinely powerful, gut-wrenching and almost always brings me to tears.
We were in the same room then ;) The end of the last movement was very surprising. There was an "accumulation effect" I think, after all these notes and long developments, suddenly it gets more dense and verbose until the end, which is not really near. It was a stunning performance. Interesting piece.
Thank you for posting this! I saw him playing it in London on Saturday. It must take so much courage to play that fugue!. His Hyperion recording comes out in March (vol 1) and look out for Robert Rimm's first complete translation of Pianism as art by Feinberg in January, one of the greatest books on the piano ever written.
Thank you Feinberg for writing this masterpiece, Hamelin for playing it and Luis Hernandez for uploading it!
And big thanks to the Romanian audience for not coughing, (while the Russian audience ruins every live recording.)

I learnt them all in five weeks but took me two years to fully realize them
Maestro Hamelin performed this piece yesterday in Prague. Awesome experience!
Just saw Hamelin himself play this in London - it was extraordinary!

I miss the score ;)
I come here to kneel down before Mr. Hamelin on his magnificent Feinberg sonata.

Thanks for the heads-up about the upcoming recording! Just saw him play this in Portland (Oregon) -- an outstanding piece!
Masterpiece.

C'est quand même tellement moins inspiré et prenant que Scriabine...avec tout le respect que j'ai pour Feinberg et Hamelin.
Je suis entièrement d'accord. On dirait même du « faux » Scriabine ! Intéressant q-m ...
Yeah okay then guys
21:31 this part sounds different from others . i think he make it cooler
