    It's a snowy day in VA and I have so much to do in my new little place but, I am tired and not sure where to begin. I was happy when I recd the alert to this. I am limited on what I can do as this flat is registered with the historical society but I still love getting new ideas for organizing. My place is very tiny. I admire so much how all these women do so much in their homes. I have a miter box and a few tools and as soon as I am unpacked and the place is more spacious I want to put up pretty curtains. Love this channel!

      As you can't change the physical aspect of your historic home portable changes are abundantly easy and interesting. As your bedroom is your sanctuary getting that room or area "perfect" is a good place to start. Home Depot helped me with shelving ideas that was easy to put together and I also built small and taller boxes to hold items that tip over or get misplaced like my painting brushes with canvas behind the shelving or in any closet, vases, office supples, applicance instructions, hair care, cleaning supplies, etc. Utilized wall space is great! A few hooks and loops keep the shelving safe in place. Easily removed. Using small nails makes the filling in when you move magically disapear. Home Deport can show you different options. Also there are gorgeous baskets at JoAnn's, Michaels, Second hand Shops, Amazon, etc. and I used them for shirts and jeans, sweats, anything. One old pie closet found at a second hand shop held them in my bedroom. Extra books, shoes, business records, kitchen items on a counter or shelf - also small folding tables and chairs or benches for dining. Go online for small furniture for small spaces. Amazon has a great selection. Desks and sofa beds are great. I really liked doing my own thing with different pieces I found at small businesses. I even bought a lovely floral couch at Good Will that sagged. The three back pillow cushions were perfect and gorgeous. I stacked them on the floor for extra seating and tossed the couch. The seat cushions looked great on the chairs outside on the deck. The 6 cushions were well worth the $75 I paid for the couch. Resource Furniture is more upscale and you can do a virtual showroom tour.
      Use your imagination and some bright colors for when the rain falls.
      And have fun! Make sure you have a pretty tea set on a tray with cookies or scones baking while you put your home together and decorate. It feels like home even before you are unpacked!

      Historical homes in VA used to be eligible for grant money. You may have to prove you used the monetary for the home but it is well worth the time it takes to google it. Some things like painting the home or even wallpaper can be eligible. Especially if you find something that matches the Era the home was built that you like today. Plus if you research your home you may find they had shelf units built into the walls. City history, old newspapers in library usually have that kind of info. Ask librarians. They know a lot about how to find that stuff. Grant money frequently pays for a contractor to come in and restore the homes original features. Check with the historical society.

    I don’t understand covering up classic subway tile with smaller plastic stick-on tile.

      Not subway, those 4 x 4 tiles. The ones near my bathtub are the same with gold flecks in them.

      Maybe they had it for a long time and just wanted to change it, but not permanently.

    Peel and stick paper on the kitchen floor? How long do you expect that to last? Even if it is vinyl did you see how thin it was?

    Picture frames also make cool light switch covers also. I leave the original plate paint or paper it, glue it in the hole of the picture frame and reattach with the original holes. Dollar tree has such pretty frames.

    We get the point with the light switch cover up. Just using as fillers.

    The worst idea ever to put contact paper on the floor

  • @dawsie
    @dawsie 7 месяцев назад +5

    I would never place contact on the floor it’s not designed for walking on. As for putting wood on the bath tub or those fake stones, after a few months of water splashing on the they will look old and yucky very fast. Some of the ideas were great but some of them forget it.

  • @suzieseabee

    Don't put wood on the bathtub. It'll rot.

    These are not cheap or easy and not all of us even have these tools to even try to make these things. Most of these are ridiculously cheap looking anyway.

    I’m afraid putting a wood frame over your tv would prevent your remote control from working.

    The contact paper on the floor is ridiculous. The first time you move the appliances it's going to rip.
