Rick’s already said he’s a guy that would sacrifice performance because of the look of a club. That’s not really the guy you want to take club advice from 😂
What I never understand is that if he wants to hit a lower shot, why does he not grab a lower lofted club? Nick Faldo even told him to do this in their match. It would save a lot of the timing involved in punching a shot low, which is why he always hooks it too much
It's basically a hybrid with a different head design. I like the fact that you got over the look of it and have embraced what it does for your game. Thanks Rick!
So many of your review videos Rick, first thing is always its "looks" and if it's "premium" enough. Its a bit eye rolling. Glad your broadening the ole perspective a bit and seeing the opportunities out there! Yet another great vid, thanks Rick!
I put last years U505 3 iron in my bag 6 months ago. Like you mentioned on your review, you can hit it high, medium, or low shots. It’s incredible with little bump and run shots around the green too! I love it so much that 2 weeks ago I did a Titleist fitting for the new U505 you just reviewed. My new #2 @18 degrees and my new #4 @22 degrees will arrive on Monday or Tuesday. This club is for all skill levels and I have a few golf friends that put one in their bag after they tried mine! GO TRY ONE AT YOUR LOCAL STORE!
Went down a similar path trying to the fill the gap between the 4 iron and 3 wood. I tried hitting driving irons, but couldn't get on with any of them. Hit a few hybrids and put one in the bag even if it wasn't the best looking club. It fixed the problem and been a good club ever since.
I bought the 1 iron in this with the Tour AD hyb 85g shaft - I love it!! It goes the same distance as my 5 wood (about 240 carry) so the perfect club for winter as it is half the hight of the 5 wood! No more worry for windy days 👍🏻👌🏻
Just today added the U505 2i to the bag to replace my fairway wood (5w). I just simply haven't gotten comfortable hitting woods. I can hit driver fine and I'm pretty comfortable with long irons. This club felt amazing on the first few swings and filled that 230-240 yard distance I was missing!
I’ve got the 1 & 3 U505 irons in the bag, for someone who has always struggled with hitting driver (even with lessons) these have been a game changer for me personally and has really helped my game!!! Glad to see the new model playing just as well!! Great Channel as always Rick 💪🏼
I love the honesty. This is part of what I envisioned your new channel being - a review, a "here's a possible solution", and just an enjoyable experience. I agree that it looks chunky behind the ball, but who cares? If the club does what you want, you're going to get more enjoyment out on the course.
Not sure if I’m comparing “Apples with Apples” but I have a Mizuno Pro Fli Hi 4i and absolutely love it. Considering getting the 3i as I’m not getting on with my 3Hy.
Love the long irons, it would be great to compare it to the DHY or UDI from TaylorMade. So nice to see different approach from one to another club review
I bought this club solely off of your review, and all I can say is thank you for your honest opinion. I absolutely love this club. Also the strokes that it has saved me on holes that I try to baby a 3 wood now I pull this club and swing with confidence! Thank you
Congrats on your new find Rick! I purchased a iCrossover 2 iron this year that has done wonders for me in the same way this club does for you. Love hitting it on those uncomfortable tees or shorter par 4s.
Oh my gosh. I just played my first round with the 4 iron U505 and it was amazing. I can hook hybrids around a building and this is definitely my answer for distance and straight consistency. Absolutely love it. I could not agree more with your review Rick. Cheers from Arizona.
Since becoming a member again in 2020 and getting fitted to all new clubs, my 30 year old driving iron has been added to the bag with a new grip. It’s great for the gap like you explained but also though slow cut out of trouble under low hanging bush shot. Even at 55 I still consistently hit this 30 yo iron 200 m. I will be definitely going and hitting this club for a spot in the bag. Great review as always Rick
absolutely loving this new channel as well as your other ones. with help from your tips and tricks Ive managed to get from struggling to shoot better than 22+ a couple months ago to shooting only 9+ today!!! I'm using old clubs and am struggling to hit anything between 200 yards with my 5 iron to 280 yards when I use my driver. if you'd be able to do some reviews on "reasonably priced" hybrids or woods that could help me with that area it would be awesome!! keep up the stuff, the new studio looks awesome!!!
May have to look into this club for my bag! I am in a similar spot where I need something between longest iron and 3 wood. I've done 5 wood, hybrid, and a driving iron but never found anything that I absolutely love for that 210-220 shot. Thanks for all the great content!
I used to not get on with driving irons spin rates were upwards of 5k rpm ball flight far to high meaning no distance. So I played a 2 hybrid and a 4 hybrid in the last 2 months the easy repeatable hybrid shot for me has t worked as I've made some swing changes. I put the 4 iron back in the bag the hybrids came out and I went and tested driving irons. I tested the ping, t200, u505, srixon zx and found to have the same problem as before. I then gave one more a shot and pulled out a tour edge c722 ti with a tensi blue 80g shaft and the ball flights were awesome the spin was lower than my driver numbers and I hit bombs with it. For a 24 handicap to have 18 of my 20 shots hit fairways 220m down is awesome. I duffed one and hit one high right that still went 200m.
This is exactly why I recently put a Mizuno Fli Hi in my bag. 3 iron also. Fills the gap between 4 iron and 3 wood. So much fun to hit, just swing hard and it just goes straight.
Great video as usual Rick! Your review on the T200 convinced me to get fit for them, now I'm really leaning toward this big boy to fill the gap in my bag. 👍
I have this in the 2i (last year's model) and it is by far my go to club off the tee when the driver isn't working, and on great strikes I get 240yds out of it, even on poor strikes, still 200 carry or so.
So glad you put this in the bag. I got fitted for new irons at Titleist in Carlsbad CA and tried the u505. I had the same exact reaction as you. It’s not pretty but once you hit it, you know why it’s here. This club is an absolute cannon and I put it in the bag ASAP. Titleist T-Series line-up, and the U-505 Utility Irons are the best in the game imo.
When i used to play many years ago , i liked long irons , but my favourite club was a 7 iron and i also loved the 9 iron , but i preferred a 2 or 3 iron over a 3 wood .
Perfect nickname for the new club, call it Pete !! After your mate Peter Finch he's got quite the backend on him now with all this cycling by his own admission 😁
Rick, if you're able to get used to the look of these, you should definitely do a couple of episodes where you try to lower your handicap by putting some more forgiving clubs in the bag. It would make for good content and you might suprise yourself!
Hey Rick I love the review and really enjoy driving/ utility irons. Have a Wilson staff 21° and a Srixon zu85 18° in the bag. I would love it if you could do a utility iron comparison between a few of the big dogs and maybe even the older big dogs like the Srixon zu85. The titleist u505 may be a little out of some people’s budget and would be cool to see what other fantastic alternatives are. I love both mine and am looking to sell one of them actually, gonna see which treats me best for the next few months
I’ve played blades the last 30 years and as a golf instructor get a lot of clubs come through our academy where they be demo clubs or donated clubs. On this one occasion I grabbed a random club from the bags of clubs we got here. It was cf19 big Bertha 6 iron with a graphite shaft. As is often the case the student runs late and we hit a few balls while waiting for them. The callaway club in question is totally not a club I would even look at twice, it’s chunky and it graphite shafted. Did my mind change about this club about 5 mins in. This club was so easy to hit and it flew so much further and almost as far as my regular MP69 3iron that I’ve seriously considered getting rid of the hybrid and buying a 2023 big Bertha 4 iron as my driving iron. All I’m saying is, don’t knock the chunkiness of a club till u try it
Perfect club!! I have a version from last year and it just works! The confidence is so good when stood over the ball. My driver has been rubbish for a while and i juat used this club all the time off the tee and didn't feel I missed out not using driver. My favourite club I've ever had. Great review as always
@@fpldalmatian I'm a 18 handicap golfer and for some reason I just feel super comfortable with it. Just feels right when stood over the ball. My opinion means nothing haha but definitely recommend it especially if you feel good hitting an iron of a tee
Got fitted a week ago. Ended up with a set of t150s P-4 and then couldnt resist adding on the u505 3 iron with a tourAD shaft 😍 It was a dream to play with
You have asked some weeks ago if we would compremise looks for performance and I shouted YES into my computer 😂 because of the same reason you have mentioned, the gap between my long iron, in my case 5 iron and the rest of the bunch. After a very good fitting I purchaed a Titleist Utility 4 Iron to close the gap to my rescue. I am playing of hcp 7 and I can not tell you haw much I love this club, ever scince a lot of problems on the Golfcourse have been solved.
Cracking video. I just bought the 1 iron recently, love it. Only problem is I can’t always hit it off the fairway but its the easiest iron to hit and certainly don’t feel punished on the slightly mis-hit shots. Great investment. I didn’t need a 3 iron or anything. Just wanted something different and a club I could hit into windy days.
I’m guilty of the looks thing as well. I just ordered a full set of the Cleveland launcher xl’s. At first I didn’t like the longer face or overall looks but if I’m honest, they felt better and I hit them better than the other options I had available.
When you said, you would love to have an entire set of these… I’ve said the same thing for the last couple of years once I got my U509 1 iron. In my effort to do something similar I actually went the hybrid iron direction.
To cover between my 4 iron and 3 wood i got a Callaway Apex 2 hybrid. It took me a little while to get used to hitting it but now it is my consistent 220-235 yard club.
I have the previous U505 4-iron model and MAN it is easy to get up off the ground and hit. Probably the best and easiest to hit Utility iron out there IMO
Got this club, as a 2 iron, early this season. I’ve got to say that it is my new favorite club. Take it out whenever driver is iffy (always) and it’s my round saver
Hey Rick, you can definitely see your genuine excitement over this club. I definitely agree with you on possibly being fit for a full line up of these clubs. Whatever allows you to play your best and whichever tools you may have that allow you to break 75. As you mentioned, it’s not a miracle club, so put the clubs in your bag. Whatever allow’s you to play your best and most consistent golf.
Yeah...it's the very same level of "genuine excitement" he's had for every club he's had in his bag (and there have been a multitude) the last 5 years!!!!
@@bobbygoodman2875 very true. However, seeing him hit the shots he was demonstrating and executing them more consistently is what I was supporting. If you had access to all the different clubs he has access to, I’m sure it would be tough for anyone to develop consistency when your constantly switching clubs.
This is exactly why I have the Ping G425 MAX driver in the bag…….can’t stand the looks or the sound of it but it’s forgiveness has improved my game so much! Great review and great honesty! Nice one mate! 🤙🏻
Great club but I don't think I will ever give up using my SIM UDI as it is just awesome, for me TAYLORMADE has always produced really good driving irons. Take nothing away from the new Titleist irons as they are absolutely stunning I currently play the AP2 AP3 split set and I can't see myself changing anytime soon, awesome stuff as always Rick 👍
The timing of this video was perfect. Saw several of these at Golf Galaxy this past weekend and wondered if they were any good. Love the channel Rick, keep em coming!
I just got a fitting as a 20 hdc and I love using hybrids but the fitter had me trying this exactly this iron and it was amazing, would never have thought about using a driving iron at my skill level
Enjoyed the review as always, my friend has one of those but a two iron and it is one of the purest clubs I've ever swung, absolutely love it even though I agree it doesn't look the best behind the ball. Would love to get one myself but that's not quite in the budget right now. Hope we get to see it being utilized a lot on the main channel.
I hit the same club at my local fitter on Saturday. I had the same thoughts. Not an attractive club but definitely a weapon you want in your arsenal if you have play any holes that are "target golf".
P790 2UDI is my fav. I tried the U505 wasn't a fan standing over it plus the 790 has almost 0 spin and can outdrive most people with the 2UDI. Love these things
I've gone with a ping crossover 2 iron for my gap. As I've gotten older I've started to hate bigger heads on the ground so hybrids and a 5 wood are out of the question. It's still chunky compared to my p730's, but a way better look to me. Plus I don't mind hitting it out of a shaggy lie. Great 245 club.
I've had great luck with an old SLDR high launch 5w (basically a 7w on a 5w shaft). No idea why, but I can flight it high, low, left or right from almost any lie. It's been great, but it's getting pretty old now...maybe time to consider a similar replacement for that 220-230 club.
Great insight, and a bit of a wake up call for most of us who don't want to play ugly clubs! Will definitely be trying this one out as I seriously struggle with hybrids and need a gap filler! Thanks Rick
I have a similar go to chunky driving iron Mizuno Pro Fli-hi 3 iron that I love. More people should try them if they have a touch of speed and don’t like hybrids.
Very nice review. Would love to see a comparison between this and the other Driving Iron offerings from Ping, Cobra and Mizuno. I would also like more info about the shafts being used because shafts are the engines of the clubs so it would be good to know.
I’ve got a 4 and 5 iron with a heavy backend that I can hit bullets with. I just find it hard to hit it to an uphill green and hold the green. How do you create that high/soft shot?? Great review, thank you!
Hi Ric, awesome club. I have P790s and play at a very tight course so wanted a similar club, went for a Stealth DHY last summer absolutely love.. my friends all joke how ever much my game might go off I can always hit it around 200yds I have the 3 iron with Aldila ascent 65hy shaft it goes incredibly high when needed or can hit a great stinger too:
I have the 23' U510 3 iron with the tour ad shaft, and it's an absolute ripper. Super happy with it on and off the fairways and feels amazing 👏 🙌 titleist has knocked it out of the park with all the new model's 🎉
You think the club is chunky and doesn’t suit your eye but subconsciously that makes you feel like you can hit it no problem. It being that chunky gives you confidence. Good video Rick
I love watching your channel Rick loving the collaboration with Bob does Sports too great stuff. I’d love to see a review on the Tacomo irons. I’m a high handicapper and looking at the 101’s for their forgiveness and distance. Also seeing as they have a utility club as well would love to see you review those clubs if possible. Keep up the great content my man.
I never got along with hybrids either, until the Callaway Apex UW. Love those clubs and have every loft. Would like to see a review of the new model coming out. Thanks!
funny, i have this in my bag as well. But i have the 2i. I dont like a 3w so i needed something that bridges the gap between my Dr and 5w. So I now have Dr-265-270 2i-240-250 5w-225-240
Tour Edge just released a new wedge option you should test out for the channel. Called the Wingman wedge. 3 different grinds and bounces offered, all the milling you see on the big boy wedges, with a little twist specifically asked for by Berhnard Langer.
Why you can hit it so well is it has a huge sole for bounce and a huge sweet spot. That's why I went with 350 all through my bag. I'm outplaying everyone I know now. I went from a 16hcp to scratch.
Most logical and enjoyable review. Loved the “I’ve got a problem, this fixes it, it’s in the bag” narrative (and that club looks beautiful

Can see the “gonna hit a chipy cut both hands up in the air snap hook” shot coming a mile off

Perfect timing on the review Rick. I'm looking to get one myself and I know its gonna be a great video as always!
You're welcome
Bought it right after watching this video and as usual you were not wrong, amazing club, got mine as a 2 iron, absolutely love it!
This is my “Monopoly” club. I use the 1-iron and it is wonderful to shape out and around of all sorts of trouble. Great review again, Mr. Shiels! 👍🏻
I love your reviews, you make me want to golf in the middle of the night when it´s really dark and cold
I’ll have give that one a try! Unusual for a club to make it straight into the bag. I’m ok with the looks!
I got the titleist T300 irons last year and have now got the u505 3 iron and it’s given me so much faith in my irons.
I hit the same club at my local fitter on Saturday. I had the same thoughts. Not an attractive club but definitely a weapon you want in your arsenal if you have play any holes that are "target golf".
Great choice Rick! I also struggle with hybrids. I have a U505 2 iron in the bag and I absolutely love it!
Got fitted for this a month before it came out. Best club in the bag by far - highly recommend it!!
P790 2UDI is my fav. I tried the U505 wasn't a fan standing over it plus the 790 has almost 0 spin and can outdrive most people with the 2UDI. Love these things
Really like the looks of it tbf. Looks like it breeds confidence
Thanks Rick
I tested it based on your review and purchased the U505 4-iron that day. It will compliment my new T200s nicely.
I have a similar go to chunky driving iron Mizuno Pro Fli-hi 3 iron that I love. More people should try them if they have a touch of speed and don’t like hybrids.
Went from P790 2 iron to a U505 3iron and I could not be happier! This club has been a life saver
I went with the ZX MkII Utility for the same reason, Rick! It is a boom stick, and I can hit it low, or high.
When can we expect a video for that bag full of new Adams clubs in the background?
Can't wait for the Adams club review Rick, saw them in the bag back there, I remember using Adams hybrids when I was a junior.
To be honest, I think it’s the best I see you hit a long time!! This golf club is perfect for you! Damn Rick
Very nice review. Would love to see a comparison between this and the other Driving Iron offerings from Ping, Cobra and Mizuno. I would also like more info about the shafts being used because shafts are the engines of the clubs so it would be good to know.
Peek the Adams clubs in the back 👀 look forward to seeing how they perform!
Same!
They made great hybrids and woods! Glad to see the name return!
I love seeing the clubs in the background hinting at what is coming in future reviews
@rick put the T-200/300’s in the bag! You loved them and the same principle applies. Might feel chunky, but you hit them great!
I’ve got a 4 and 5 iron with a heavy backend that I can hit bullets with. I just find it hard to hit it to an uphill green and hold the green. How do you create that high/soft shot?? Great review, thank you!
would love to see a whats in the bag vid, now that rick has reviewed the new iron sets
You ain’t lying, i game either the u510 2 iron with tensei blue AMT and a u510 1 iron with an tour ad IZ, absolute missile
Those Adams woods and irons (maybe) in the background. Hopefully reviews coming soon?!!
Amen. I game the TaylorMade DHY version of that utility iron w/ the Diamana LTD shaft and it’s a beast! Enjoy it Rick!
So I now have
Dr-265-270
2i-240-250
5w-225-240
Good to see some love for function over form. If it helps your game, pop it in, if it doesn't, you don't need it.
Rick's reviews are always class. Interesting club. Im seeing a bag of Adam's woods in the background. Forgot about them. Adam's review in the future?
Looking for a 4 like this one so will be testing these U505 out asap! Need that same distance and under 195-220 ish
That's a chonky bedonkadonk on the back side of the club. Just ordered one for my brother, I have a feeling he's going to love it.
Tour Edge just released a new wedge option you should test out for the channel. Called the Wingman wedge. 3 different grinds and bounces offered, all the milling you see on the big boy wedges, with a little twist specifically asked for by Berhnard Langer.
Did you also try the T200 Utility 3 Iron during your fitting ? Both have graphite shafts etc..
I see some new Adams head covers over in a bag on the wall. Very interested to see how these perform in testing.
Why you can hit it so well is it has a huge sole for bounce and a huge sweet spot. That's why I went with 350 all through my bag. I'm outplaying everyone I know now. I went from a 16hcp to scratch.
Rick: I’ll just get a full set of these
T200s: Whoa! Slow down. What have I done wrong?
I bought the u505 2 iron and I love it. It’s so much fun
