I have limit space in my garage. This way to set up bands to improve your squat is so amazingly simple and space saving. Matt Wenning's knowledge and advice is like weightlifting gold. Thanks Matt.
Been setting my bands up with plates as described here for months now and it's been working perfectly. (Just takes more time than if I had a newer/more expensive rack.) :)
Yes thank you Matt. I have a question though on which band to use. I have to use it the college way with plates. I have a 415 lb squat. I noticed you use the red band but I don't know if that's enough tension. So what should I do for the speed work? Red, green, or Orange ?
How much volume of speed work is enough to force an adaptation? I.e. 6-8 sets of 1-3 on a particular lift? And does the volume on speed work need to be equated to repetition effort in any way? I’ve seen the videos talking about actual bar weight being 30-40% and then accommodating resistance varying just to keep the bar speed at > 1.0 M per second so I’m just curious
David Delgado you can use either. You don’t want to do the same exercise for months so you have to program a variety for DE just like you would for something else. One of his videos covers DE. It should answer your question better
@@davidvarnes7708 That is a great point. He is not stupid but his bench routine is not a whole lot different then an average bodybuilding routine. "Start with flat bench, then inclines, then flies, peck deck," etc etc. I think a guy like Eddie hall will get strong no matter how stupid and cookie cutter his program is. If I am not mistaken Wenning even had a five or six hundred pound bench press before he even started Westside.
@@vikingstrongman5903 Totally agree. There are some people who are going to get strong no matter what. Just like in bodybuilding, there are guys who are going to get full bellied muscles and cut to the bone even if they did nothing but "Sweatin' To The Oldies." It's why I never have followed a total guru, but watch, read, and learn from a multitude of folks before putting it through my own personal laboratory, my body, and seeing what works at that time.
I was doing the ghetto method at my old commercial gym and it rocks. I’ve wrapped bands under the legs of a hammer strength rack and it cut the shit out of my bands. Plates are much much safer.
Do you think squatting atg with heavy duty knee sleeves, like the gangsta knee sleeve, can cause me to have torn a vastus medialis? I always stay very hydrated and I do about 45 mins of stretching and light lifting as a warmup. The weight I had on was about 60 percent of my max when it happened. It was a warm up of 405 for 1. Great video, my gym finally got bands and chains, so I've never used them, so I've been using dumbells, I'm glad to see how to use plates.
Would doing this for hypertrophy be a good idea? I'm 46 and my joints are starting to yell at me. Was planning on lowering the weights and using bands for extra consistent resistance. Would this work for hypertrophy or is it just good for power lifting for strength?
The way you're setting up in a rack seems really convoluted, why not just loop it around the bottom supports like you did with the mono? When you choke them down they don't slide, i've been doing it this way for years. Even easier with band pegs, which it seems like 90% of the racks these days are equipped for.
@@Harvey6505 A squat rack isn't "fancy equipment" lol. He was saying if you have a rack rather than monolift. If you don't own or have access to a rack I doubt you have extra 45's laying around.
@@OlMoldy I mean you COULD do it that way but even the folding wall mounted rogue racks have a bottom support you can sling a band on. It's just a more time consuming and convoluted means to the same end.
No he definitely meant if you don't have a way of hooking the bands to a rack this is how you do it. Just because he happens to be doing it on a rack with peg holes is inconsequential.
Honestly the fact that he shows ways for people that don’t have that kind of great equipment to do so in a simple way makes him goated 💪🏽🙏🏽

Hands down I agree. There is something for everyone regardless of of level of working out.

Bands are like squatting on another planet. 🦾
💪💪💪💪
Thank you for the knowledge! Would you not double up the bands in the same way you set them up for the bench?
Sebastian Tokle distance from attachment point to bar in top position is much greater in a squat than bench.
@@Harvey6505 Yes I understand that. I was thinking instead of changing to a stronger band and etc. Thank you for taking your time to respond though 👍
Yeah no worries. Matt has a manual about using bands, chains and specialty bars on his website, its fairly inexpensive. Wenningstrength.com
Great
what brands of bands are quality ones in the uk/eu?

Damn bro your the best
We sure try!!!!
What bands would you recommend to start with? Or does it matter?
My apologies, my knowledge of bands is limited.
Elitefts
Or choke them around the low support beam on the rack, like you did the monolift
Many times those rack aren’t close enough to the ground. But rock on!!!

Theres an old video of eddie squating with bands and the band tention raised the rack upwards so he couldnt rerack the weight... hilarious

Why not put band around bottom of rack or use band pegs? I like to double bands for bench but I find I only like single loop for squats
Not every rack has band pegs

If the rack dont came with bend pags you can make them easy and cheap
Or do it like I just explained
Acceleration of gravity (G) is actually 9.8 meters per second squared.
