Have you ever been coached by a world record holder in the squat? Now you can say you have! Matt knows there's a lot of talk surrounding what it takes to make it big in the squat rack. This is good for a community that will believe almost anything, but Matt know squatting fundamentals are where big squats live or die. In this video matt make sure you know where to place the bar on your back. He instructs where you need to place your feet and where you should never put them. He also covers why you should use his form rather than someone you know at your local gym.
Matt is never going to give you the run around when it comes to lifting. He's been in some of the hardest training rooms in the world, and through his experience he wants to teach YOU how to lift properly. Furthermore Matt knows what bad squatting does, he also knows that squatting all the time if bad for your back health in the long run. Be sure to watch Matt's videos on how how to reduce back pain and maximize your gains!
ALSO if you want to reach the next level find out how to fuel your body. Matt and Stan Efferding went in on nutrition on another video we just released. You can see exactly what The Mountain and Brian Shaw were eating to dominate the Arnold Classic 2019! Watch the video here for more information:

About 2 years ago, I went to one of Matt’s seminars at ECU. It was $250 and I drove roughly 7 hours due to where I was in school at the time. Matt, in 30 seconds with 3 tips, adjusted my squat and I hit 435, it felt like a 225 warmup for me. At the time my max was a grinding, RPE 12 465.
My point is this. Matt knows how to make you stronger and can do it in 60 seconds or less. He has earned the right to have a patreon channel and charge what he charges. If you listen to him and implement his advice, you will get stronger.
Matt, thank you!
💪 many thx!!
Awesome.
That lateral foot pressure cue is something I've been looking for more information on. Thank you for addressing it.
I don't know how Matt feels about this cue but "spread the floor" is a cue that has been used for a long time, at least partly to that end
@@ResistanceQuest I'm familiar with that idea, and implement it. Just never encountered much of an explanation as to why (the relationship between doing it and the glutes/quads). It's not that the tip was revolutionary, just delivered in a way beneficial to me.
@@carlgibson7850 I hear you. Matt is great at that, at explaining things that lots of people talk about but very few explain. Cheers!
Late the party here...but yep this is gold...I actually discovered playing around with the Romainian Deadlift this myself...now to hear it from Matt about the squat...is golden...

My squat firm has always been terrible. 47 years old and never had a coach. Luckily I haven't had any injuries because I never went to heavy. Now looking to get a coach just for my squat so I can feel more comfortable with heavier weights.

I love the content !! Keep putting out more
All respect and appreciation for this important information.

I'm looking forward to a follow-up video once Matt has had some time to accumulate volume with the new technique and built up his back a little more. This technique will let him use his posterior chain to squat a lot of big weights!

Never thought about my rear delta for squatting, gonna build them up
Yup!!!!
I have seen criticism of the anterior pelvic tilt and high chest on the basis that it lengthens the abs and prevents hard bracing. Some say this technique is really intended for geared lifting. The alternative position is ribs down and neutral pelvis. Has Matt ever addressed this question?
I don’t think he’s advocating an extreme anterior pelvic tilt, rather bracing the abs with ribs down but a slight arch. this way you can use both the abs and the lower back to stabilize

The raw world records and 20 year career w no injuries didn’t do it for ya huh?? 🤣🤣
@@WenningStrength Or you could address the question. Congrats on being strong though. I ask because I don't have a world record and would appreciate your insight.
He does it bcoz he has to because of his height and limb length. I wouldn't recommend it for ppl with normal or short legs. Bcoz they don't have to.
Is it ok to be super bent over like that in bottom position. I feel like my squat would have be like that to stop spinal flexation
I want to say thank you for this wealth of knowledge you share about the squat, in early spring this year I found out through an MRI that I had a grade 1 partially torn patellar tendon and I was seriously concerned and thought I may have to have surgery and or stop squatting all together. Using your recommended techniques I have been able to continue squatting without have surgery. I still need a lot of practice to perfect it but it is already removing most of the irritation in the tendon.
Yep!!! Hopefully one day more will listen to someone who’s proven themselves 30 years with real numbers and no injuries
@@WenningStrength sadly it is hard for people to conceptualize something going wrong until they are already injured. Sure, you might be able to squat high volume with a lot of knee travel and have no issues but then again you could end up tearing a patellar tendon like me.
Closer grip on the bar would have helped the guy keep a better low bar shelf
can you explain further please

I like the tips. Harvey might have some mobility issues though and/or too much focus on sticking his butt back. His back angle keeps getting flatter as he descends into bottom position which is looking pretty awkward. Doesn't look like strong position.
looking like layne norton just folded over
Takes time to learn. Wanted to show you guys a person that needs help so you could relate
@@Harvey6505 Hell yeah. Thanks for your service Matt. Wheelchair?? You could've fooled me.
@@Harvey6505 Best of luck to you, you're in good hands.
@@WenningStrength That's nice and somewhat novel amongst all the monster squat videos you generally see on YT.
Can you give your opinion on stan efferding's squat, similar to starting strength
Jon 1 Matt has said in the past he doesn’t agree with Starting Strength technique or Mark Rippetoe. Matt uses the tips of lifters that have done insane feats of strength with minimal injuries and a long career(ex:Ed Coan).
Not a fan
@@clarkyow1418 Any champion raw squatter is going to want quad contribution in their low bar - Karwoski, coan, malanichev, dan green, etc, etc
@@clarkyow1418 Lifters like Karwoski, coan, malanichev, dan green, etc, etc all squat(ted) using hip drive, using technique that Starting Strength preaches (minus the gaze perhaps). Matt unfortunately doesn't understand this....
The bar isn't over his mid foot when he squats, it's in front of his toes( pause at 4:43 ). Wouldn't he just fall forward when squatting with actual weight?
Yeah I noticed that too. That was on the verge of a good morning
Really awkward bottom position indeed.
this is quite normal if the weights are lighter. Think about it, when you sit back a lot without a lot of weight you need to counteract the weight of your ass so you do not loose balance.
@@ottowelt4378 Maybe so, but i think Matt should've atleast mentioned keeping the bar over midfoot through the entire movement.
ye that looked weak af, this guy is long torso short legs he shouldn't bend over that much
Why grip so wide?
Upgrade Iself whatever is not going to impinge your shoulders. You can have a tight upper back ergo strong shelf for the bar with a wide or narrow grip. Build a ton of muscle on your back and find the grip that allows you to hot your biggest weights in the most efficient and safe manner

sorry but that was terrible form. loaded, he would faceplant.
chago river that’s why it’s 101
That is hideous my guy
Ur the expert
Imagine if this is the squat your coach has managed to get out of you after 6 weeks lmao...Watch his "Squat Secrets 301" where the guy's knees actually come forward and voila he does a decent looking raw low bar squat, not this keep your shins vertical nonsense
Absolute vile exercise I hate every aspect of it
