  • Hiya! I did a 25 day trip: Los Angeles - Tokyo - Malaysia - Singapore - Beijing - Columbus, OH - back to LA. The weather ranged from about 50 - 90+ degrees. Managed the whole trip with just a carry on and a personal item!
    In preparation, I watched what felt like 1000 RUclips videos, so thought I’d condense what I’d learned into one video for your convenience.
    Here are some links to videos I referenced-sorry, I couldn’t find the links for the Lily & Drew carry on or the fantastic little hair iron.

    Great video! I love how your packing is not reliant on too much fancy "stuff."..
    One thing about long sleeves..living in the Southwest...I always wear Coolibar long sleeve T shirts...bamboo blend fabric and no sunscreen needed! Plus you are much cooler than having exposed skin in searing sun! Also, something like a GoGirl for standing up like a guy for peeing!!!

    Great to see someone else packing lightly. A lot of so called ‘carry on’ luggage looks way too heavy to lift above my head. You bring the bare essentials. Excellent. I’m off to Scotland soon and will take the amount you have shown us. Cheers from 🇦🇺.

    Fantastic suggestions, and I find doing this after the trip as you did makes so much sense. Appreciate knowing what was usual and what wasn’t. 👍🙂

    This was helpful, thank you! And I like your down-to-earth way. : - )
    I also re-use a regular plastic water bottle while traveling for the lighter weight.
    Great tip about a lightweight LONG-sleeved cover-up shirt and long pants in buggy areas, even if warm!
    I wasn't familiar with using a plastic film layer on bottles to prevent leaks, and will definitely do that now--thanks!

    The thing about not needing compression (except for fleece/puffy jackets) is so true! I find it encourages me to make my bag too heavy.

    Thank you for the ideas. I will be flying in a couple months, so this will come in very handy. I like to pack light, but it still has been heavier than ideal. This time I will make it a point to make it half the weight, so I can enjoy the entire process that much more.

    Great tips! My doctor recommended a probiotic for travel and to start taking it 2 weeks before trip. We actually used a pre and probiotic and we had zero problems with tummy or bowel while we were away. Worked amazing!!! You might also want to look at non-liquid alternatives like bar shampoo, toothpaste tabs, crystal deodorant and powder sunscreen!

    • @five1002
      @five1002  Год назад

      Great tips, thank you. I'll try the probiotics. Do you recommend a bar shampoo? Better yet, one that is a face soap as well?

    This is so helpful, especially the type of luggage to use. I am a light packer as well, but I really like the carryon and backpack that you featured in the video. I have a lot of skin allergies and the skin meds I take are the things that I find annoying. Thank you.

      I still have that bag, and one of the zipper pulls is getting finicky, but other than that, it still looks perfect, and I've learned to use just that for short 2-4 day trips!

    Hi, thank you so much for your video. I really like the day pack by Lily & Drew but it looks like they no longer make this bag. Do you have other alternatives that have the same features that you like on this bag? I appreciate your sharing all the pros and cons. I am getting the AirQuart and for sure Pepto Bismol!

    How long and where in China did you visit? Did you need to quarantine? Please provide info.

    • @five1002
      @five1002  Год назад

      OMG, that should be it's own video. I went to Beijing for 3 days. I had read that there is a 3-day visa, so like a dummy, I just showed up, thinking it was like a Western nation. It isn't! I arrived at Beijing Airport at 11 pm. It was EMPTY. And it took some doing to find someone that spoke English. After wandering back and forth for an hour, I finally found a sleeping agent behind a counter that was able to give me a 3 day visa. This was before pandemic, so no quarantine. Anyway, China is not like the world I'm used to-- ended up being detained for a couple hours on my way out... had to sign something in Chinese that I have no idea what it says....

      So when did you visit Beijing? Would like to see a video of your visit there. In fact you should share the rest of you trip in different videos of places you visited and the food you sampled. Many of us would enjoy it.

      @@howmanl4279 I visited in 2019 sometime. The phone I had at the time is now dead-- hit by a wave in Cabo! So no footage available. I'll be honest, I hated Beijing. After the loveliness of Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, Beijing was very difficult and somewhat depressing. There are no Google services, no one is kind and wants to help you, and the locals seem to be on the verge of a meltdown at all times-- I saw at least 3 people scream at the top of their lungs. And they just don't see things like we do in the West. From what you want to see on a tour, to entrance and exit placement-- it was constantly.... f***ed up. The worst was the food-- it's not yummy southern Chinese food like is all over Singapore and Malaysia, and there didn't seem to be much variety. I made a couple of friends-- two Indians that couldn't find any vegetarian dishes and were starving. I couldn't find anything not drenched in sauce, so we sat outside the Water Cube starving and drinking water. The best thing was The Great Wall. It's worth the view. But bring earplugs to drown out the water vendors. Chinese just don't get the idea of soaking in the sights. And prepare for a long, dumb tour. There's an Emperor's tomb that was definitely a waste of time, although my one regret is I didn't buy tea at the tea factory we stopped at
