      I don't pack a pillow but always pack one of my Teema towels, it's my snuggle sleeping blanket, but also can be a wrap, sarong, throw, bulky scarf. I travel long term and with one bag. Short or long I just need to have my WOOBIE😄❤️😄AND my Woobie has to come with me. It makes everything HOME.

I suggested they provide you with the whole capsule because you’d promote it because you already loved her stuff.

    Regarding a scarf, it can warm your neck if it's cold, protect your head or shoulders from the sun, your head from the rain, your clothes when you sit somewhere. It can be carried tied to your bag or around your waist. If you wash it, make sure you chose one that dries fast. So, takes little space and can be used for lots of stuff.

    Because of my work I always have to have a laptop with me. With cords, it just adds a ton of extra weight. Yet I've managed to keep my stuff under 8 kg even though I sometimes include a yoga mat. As you said, the secret is having an ultralight backpack. Mine is Gossamer Gear. Its' front mesh pocket is especially handy when going from cold (my home country Finland) to a warmer climate. I can stuff any outer layer in it without a fuss

I have pared down my packing to a tiny backpack thanks to your sage advice. Its fun to see how much i can eliminate and still feel like I have enough. I stopped wearing makeup 10 years ago and I’m fine with it. I do bring a set of Velcro rollers for my hair and I bring a few colors of nail polish and cotton and remover. Im particularly fond of turquoise, coral and an off white pink. Im down to 2 pairs of pants, 3 shirts, a sweatshirt, socks, sneakers, flipflops, and my denim jacket. It is enough. I am about to start packing in the next few days for a 2 1/2 mth trip with my husband (we took early retirement and are travelling as much as we can, and still maintaining life back at home). Last fall we did carry on and back pack only, for 3mths. I was proud of us but I feel I could do better to make it nicer for me/us. It's not just so a person can say, I only travel with x amount. I want it to make travel easier. We have a lot of flights and moves we're making in our first month in Turkey. Less to carry and manage makes it so much easier. Thank you SO much!

    Silk and Merino wool are my favorites, too. I had a mid priced pack that seemed to check all the boxes... until the zipper broke. Since then I've carried Osprey, REI, and like brands, intended for actual backpackers. They're light weight and very sturdy. Once, all the overhead bins were full, and I had to gate check my carry-on. I was so glad that I had a rugged, Osprey ultra-light pack.

    • @leapintothewild
      @leapintothewild 2 года назад +6

      Osprey is my go-to for backpacking but can get heavy. If you check out thru-hiker blogs and videos, you’ll find lots of cottage brands producing wildly popular bags that weigh mere ounces yet durable enough for 2000k mile trips on rough trails! And many are custom made to your specs, with your choice of belts, straps, pockets, padding, volume, etc. Just search for ultralight backpack and pay attention to reviews by hikers on the AT (Appalachian Trail), PCT (Pacific Crest Trail), CDT (Continental Divide Trail), etc - especially vids and blogs when they review gear AFTER they’ve finished for brutal feedback.

    Ill share a tip with the viewers who like to carry camera gear and also have to bring along a cpap machine. This is a real conundrum for me for packing light. While in italy 3 years ago, i figured out that my cpap bag doubles great as a camera bag for daily outings! Lenses and bodies fit in there since its all padded and theres room to carry little souvenirs. I noticed that nobody was interested in pickpocketing a cpap bag! I also wore a scarf with hidden zip pocket where i kept all my valuables. I simply turned the cpap bag with zipper facing my body and it was fabulous. The only thing is packing your camera gear properly inside your backpack which you can do with travel towels, sweater etc. tiny prime lenses can go in tube socks. Its not fancy but it worked well for me!

    I love your packing videos!!! I don't see anything about packing for mixed/likely rainy weather. I'm from a dry climate. If it rains we stay inside or grab a junky umbrella! Traveling is different though. You live in a rainy destination so this should be up your alley! We're doing Dublin and Amsterdam in September.

      I dunno if this comment is too late to help you. I've been to both Ireland and Amsterdam, during summer and shoulder season. I also live in a wet climate, similar to Sarah (I think it's actually wetter where I live than where she does lol). It's standard for me to wear waterproof shoes and have a raincoat, but I rarely bring an umbrella. If we really need one, we can buy a cheap one on vacation. I'd say the best advice for traveling in Ireland and Amsterdam in September is to layer. And wear real shoes.

I’m taking silk and merino wool shirts, 2 long sleeve button shirts, cashmere cardigan, light fleece zip sweater/jacket, nylon windbreaker jacket. My only outer bottom is a Macabi trekking skirt (with silk short johns and knee socks underneath if cold). Eagle Creek folding day bag. Small Baggallini shoulder bag/waist pack for my sketching/watercolor supplies. Purse is my ScotteVest featherweight model travel vest so my valuables are in inner pockets and on my body at all times. Why can’t each person have a backpack and do the same? Smaller backpacks for smaller people, and their clothes are smaller anyway! 😊

    Thanks for the recommendation on the super light underwear. I keep the total of my luggage under 8 kilos (roughly 17.6 lbs) but I do use a slightly larger backpack or a roller. Having a bag that's so completely full means I need to tetris everything any time I want to grab something. Just way too annoying for me. Plus gives me some space to dump some of the things I'd have in my personal item on a plane but that I don't need to have on my walking around wherever I'm visiting.

    Thanks for sharing all your insights, I have been wanting to try silk but was hesitant. Your review has given me more confidence to find some some silk garments. I have also heard good things about alpaca being similar to wool. Have you ever tried clothing made of alpaca?

    Always love your videos Sarah. I have had success with Lume deodorant. It took a few days of use before it started working well but now 1 ounce lasts me about a month. My favorite scent is Warm Vanilla; my husband’s is Silver Spruce. Also always travel with a Swiss Army Card. TSA friendly scissors, tweezers, nail file, magnifying glass, toothpick, pen, and tiny screwdriver. All in the size of about 3 or 4 credit cards stacked. Best wishes and looking forward to more of your videos.

    Hi Sarah, awesome information & very well presented. I travel quite a bit as well & you have given me a lot of ideas of stuff to look for to streamline my current gear. I'm very curious about 2 things though. How do you wash all of your silk items while you're on the road & how well does silk breathe? I've only owned one silk shirt & it was like wearing a really expensive plastic bag for how well air flowed through it. Is it more a function of the silk thread itself or the weave or something else? How has your experience been with using mostly silk? Thanks for any info & cheers from a fellow traveler!

    Sarah, few months ago someone mentioned using Osprey bags, and you asked which kind... if you are interested, Maggi Fuchs also packs very light and she just put out a video about her progression. She is now using an Osprey Arcane Duffel... part of their Arcane series. It is 30 liters and pretty light. I wish it were a tad smaller, more underseat size, because it looks well made. Happy travels, Lynne

      That Osprey bag is brilliant! I bought one after seeing Maggi’s video about it. It opens suitcase style, so easy to pack, but quite lightweight. Very important on flights with a maximum combined weight of 7kg for carry on and personal item, which is often the case within and between New Zealand & Australia

    • @lynneeie5226
      @lynneeie5226 Год назад

      @@anneinauckland2318 My husband and I bought them after one trip with our backpacks, because we had "stuff" spread all over, and the suitcase style just keeps everything together and easier to deal with. We love them! And I agree, the weight matters. We used them on Lufthansa and Condor, with a PC bag as our shared underseat personal item. But for RyanAir, we have Fjellraven Kånken Laptop 13s, which are small, but we used one, shared, for an overnight trip, so I think it will work for European flights with Ryan Air. And, I am planning to use it this summer as my personal item next to the Osprey. So I might have the "perfect for us" system now, maybe?! 😂🤞🏻
