The trick she showed at the end -- the hanging closet in the roller bag -- is great if you're on a coach tour or otherwise changing hotels every day or so. I used it on a month-long summer trip with great success.
I have been following your packing tips for about 7 years now and I still love the moment when I open my bag and people are shocked by how little I seem to have 😂 But it’s not that I don’t pack a lot - I just get efficient and choose wisely! My favorite pouch in my luggage is my “bag of awesome” as you call it, and it’s saved me to many times. Having everything while feeling like you’re carrying almost nothing
Great video sarah. I have found an osprey ported backpack and it weighs 1.2kgs I have saved 1.6kgs on my roller bag Also in one of your videos where it was devoted to Eileen Fisher I took note and bought 6 items all in black, silk secondhand and two new items for under AUD $150 absolute bargain. I thank you your insights they invaluable. Just wanted to mention I have swapped merino for silk for travel as silk is breathable , light perfect for layering j find that when my items may be a little wrinkled after wearing it the wrinkles go away with body heat. I mix my black pieces up with animal prints , and pops of colours. I still live merino but only take merino socks , one pair of leggings to wear Under my silk items if it gets cold and a merino buff and hat. Also I weigh items and write the weight on the tag. I love all your videos so thank you and well done 🍀🌈❤️
I've had have an iT bag, that I assumed would not last very long, for about 5-6 years now and it is still going strong! it weighs 4 lbs and works for the low cost European airlines we often use. I think I purchased it from AAA on sale for under $100
Weighed everything and made a tiny first aid kit after seeing your other videos. I always take zip lock baggies in various sizes. They come in handy for food purchases. No messes in your purse or backpack. I also use the jumbo size as my packing cubes. You can see what's in them and you squeeze excess air out. Walked way more than I would've on last trip and realized my shoes were too tight. For me sandals and flip flops saved the day. Thanks Sarah.
Yes, I live in a very compact studio apartment so I need to minimise as much as possible. Laundry sheets have been a game changer (especially as I live on the top floor of a 3 story walk up where the laundry is on the ground floor) 😄
It never ceases to amaze me how the ounces add up amongst all the items. Stuff like electronics and makeup are the worst. Yes even 5 pounds is a big deal. I have several kits made up too, but mine are 30 year old Altoids tins. Same contents as you. I keep some blue painter's tape, some gaffer tape, and some duct tape on mini rolls wrapped around pencil stubs.
I had migraines for years and my migraines medication came in these little plastic boxes with a snap lid. Rather than just throwing them away I repurposed them for storing all sorts of little ods and ends. Great for travel repair kits, medications etc (especially as they're flat vs round containers that are harder to pack compactly)
7:58 I just realized one of my favorite travel hacks was partially inspired by Sarah's great Box of Awesome idea! 😄Instead of having to go back to lodgings to change for a night out, I have a mini glam kit in my day bag with things to instantly dress up an outfit for evening: statement earrings, eyeliner, lipliner (+ lip balm = lightweight & versatile lip color : - ), barrette, bobby pins, and an ultralight pretty scarf that folds down to nothing. Everything fits in a tiny lightweight coin purse and altogether weighs as little as 2 ounces! I also like to carry a sweater and small fleece hat even in summer instead of a bulky jacket in case of sudden temperature drops after dark/long waits for transportation, plus a snack and ibuprofen. Planning ahead for basics of physical comfort really does make the inevitable challenges of travel a fun adventure. Awesome indeed! ; - D
I’ve just spent hours today weighing stuff for carryon for my upcoming trip! Was going to check a bag, but there’s a nationwide cargo and baggage handler strike for bigger airports in Italy the day I land ….not willing to wait hours, maybe days, for a bag! Amazing the difference between two almost identical items.😮
As I find things in my wardrobe that I am either tired of wearing or no longer works with my color palette I set them aside to travel with and then discard on my way home ….. which leaves room for any souvenirs or clothes I buy on vacation! Also, I put small amounts of shampoo, deodorant, face creams, etc. into tiny plastic bags to cover my trip. Those bags are then placed into a plastic soap dish inside my liquids bag to keep the bags from leaking all over my clothes. Same with any medications I am taking. I travel from Texas to Maine for 3 weeks at a time at least once a year in the smallest IT wheelie bag - GAME CHANGER!!
How awful. Other countries in the world do not want your worn out and discarded clothing! Waste disposal is a huge issue in many places and can cost a lot for places to deal with fabric waste. You take it, you bring it home.
@@deadheadscotland7029I don't think she was talking about worn out clothing, just stuff she's sick of. While I don't approve of that attitude of consumerism, provided she's donating those items, it is a form of recycling I suppose 🤷♀️ She did imply she would be donating those items anyway, whether locally or o/s
I wear 100% hand washable silk, all my clothes are wash and dry fast, I never buy clothing that has weight, never travel with jeans, all toiletries are in small containers all clothing mix and match. Most of the time my 21 “ bag weighs 23 -25lbs. One small slash proof backpack all valuables fit no problems.
I've recently become a huge fan of bamboo. Had been trying it out for a few years but I think the quality varies a lot between brands. Now very happy and building most of my basics with it. I just find silk too hot in the heat. But can appreciate how lightweight it is - have a few pieces. And yeah, I basically only buy clothes now that satisfy my requirements for travel. Mostly bcos I've adopted minimalism and travelling light is a form of minimalism
I like silk, bamboo, and merino wool. They are lighter, better quality, and are great for travel and at home. I'm in the process of purging my belongings
I carry my pills in a TikTok container, tooooo!!! I just always have it in my car, just in case and then take it with me on trips. So many great tips. 🎉
I like them bcos many don't use fluoride. But yes, I've gone solid with the majority of my toiletries. Pretty sure Sarah was doing that for a while but now seems to have gone back to liquids? 🤷♀️
I always make room to bring my own menstrual supplies - Asia only sell scented products, and I have heavy periods - I can't assume that I'll find what I need while traveling
Have you tried a menstrual cup? You will never have problems with scented products again (and do you know how much bleach they use in most of those products? It's no wonder I struggled with thrush for years). Seriously, the majority of female travel vloggers recommend a menstrual/Diva cup, and with good reason. Once you find the size and shape that suits you and work out how to insert it properly, you'll never look back (it will also save you so much money). I wish I'd discovered these in my 20s, rather than in my 40s
I love the info you share. I just hate the audio on most of your videos, it's very hard for me to hear you. Perhaps a good microphone that you wear would help.
Glad to see you’re still doing these. You give a wealth of info that really makes a difference when packing and traveling. Thank you Sarah.
Ditto this!
@@kimblankwallace Ditto times three!!
You are the guru of traveling light. Most other packing channels only focus on the bulk, not weight.

I would love for you to review the various Wool companies.. Wool&, Wool X, unbound....
That’s a great idea. I’ll see if we can get some samples

Love using laundry sheets, even at home

I use a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen in it. I don't use foundation at all. It replaced 3-4 items.

I use an Altoid tin. Same difference. I use them for lots of things when they're empty. Just use duct tape or contact paper to cover the top.
Would have a huge backache carrying around your backpack! 74 years old now my RS backpack days are over!
Ditto. I love my Travelpro roller bag, supplemented with a smaller backpack personal bag.
Have you tried the toothpaste tablets? I use them when I travel, Colgate makes one with fluoride.
I like them bcos many don't use fluoride.

Briggs and Riley is so heavy though. Travel Pro is so much lighter.
But there is NOTHING better to travel with than Briggs and Riley

What is the size of the Travel Pro in your demo? I noticed it's a roll aboard. Thanks.
i have one that is about 5 pounds. maybe 5.5.

Lifetime warranty with TravelPro. They will pay to have that broken zipper repaired
