About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.

my buddy had a Bowie just like that. I rehandled it cleaned it up.and gave it a good sharpening job and it's like brand new now

hahahaha! Thanks. They don't bother me at all until I edit a video and realize they are making noise. I don't notice anymore during the day, just during the video 😆👍
Jeremy, here is you a tip. Instead of using blue tap to mix epoxy. Get one of the silicon trays for woodworking glue. Mix your epoxy, let the rest dry, and then just peel it out. Good to go for the next one. Just a tip...nothing more. Thanks for all of your vidjas. I have learned a ton from you. Thank you.

I made a brass guard for my friends knife exactly like this one and put stag scales on it it looked as good as knew when I finished I heard several of these were used as boot knives is why some have the guard missing like yours and my buddies was
I think it turned out very nice. The walnut looks really rich for the scales.

@@Simplelittlelife Well, I tried to forge one yesterday, but I forged it not wide enough at the point so it became more of a seax :(. Still gonna finish the knife and give it another try next weekend👍

Sometimes you can use heat shrink over the handle for a quick repair

Nice little video as always, Jeremy. Thank you for the effort! But it's always good practise to use a machine vise when drilling trough the tang in case the knife decides it wants to be a helicopter.

I have the same knife! It came to me in very bad disrepair and badly pitted blade! I commited the cardinal sin of thinking the way to remove the rust and pitting was with.......a grinder! Bad idea I know......NOW! It's in worse shape now than when I started as far as grinding marks versus the former. I'll not DO THAT again! Nothing more than sanding block and sandpaper from now ON!! I slimmed down the tang to fit inside a deer bone. That looks better but I'll never bring the blade back to my satisfaction. Live and learn! 😞

I made a horrible mistake on my Rambo IV Machete .
I thought it was trash after I tried to grind on it .
Sent it out to a friend and he fixed it up better now than when I first bought it .
I did a video on exactly what happened a few weeks ago .

No handguard? There was one before on the knife, you can see the liittle edges where it sat against on the blade.
Doesn´t make much sense to me.
Argento no hand guard on it if they where one they would be 2 edges where it need to sat aginst the blade and theyre there is only one

My neighbor didn't like the guard and it is his knife. I certainly can't put one on if he doesn't want it. 👍

Stag would have been the proper handle choice and add a nickel silver guard.
That knife was begging for a guard.
Thanks. My neighbor who brought this over just wanted a simple handle to get back into operation again. This was purely a functional repair. And seeing as it had no guard originally, it really wasn't my place to make that call. But I agree, it would have been sweet with a guard and stag! 👍
I love stag handled Bowie knives . Have quite many . Even have a custom Aldo Raine Inglorious Basterds knife that is like my favorite.

Its supposed to have a hand guard you can see where it was before he started there's a shoulder made on the blade for the guard
I have a similar knife to rehandle for a friend but it’s a hidden tang Bowie with 3 pins in it. I tried a block and removing the inside to receive the tang but after getting it fit I went to cut the handle shape accidentally opening up the pocket on the side ( trashed). The tang is almost a full tang. There’s only about 3/16” of wood handle on each side and the butt. Any suggestions. I hate to cut the tang down because right now it’s an extremely strong knife. Could easily baton with it. Maybe I could split the block in two and four out the dado for the tang and then glue back the two sides. What do ya think.
video idea... can you show how to restore a kitchen knife where it's got lots damage on the edge from being used on ice. Also the tip is bent off. Also how to sharpen a machete that comes dull from the store. I know there are other videos on this but would like to see how you approach all this....

yea I would have ordered stag horn and put a brass guard on it to make it original again and got the rust off the blade. but nice work.
God that looks like one I have, my dad put a chunk of antler onto it for a handle. Need to clean up the blade and work on the handle

Thank you. No, I didn't sharpen it. My neighbor is a retired butcher and even when it came to me it was really really sharp. I figured he probably has his personal preference for how he likes it sharpened and didn't want to mess with that. 👍
