    The 550 Mk2 is an awesome saw. Don’t underestimate it if you’ve never ran it. I’ve traditionally been a Stihl guy, but the 550 changed my preference. I’ve got a substantial collection to choose from, and for anything up to 8-10” diameter, the 550 usually gets the call. In bigger wood, the 500i or 592xp definitely gets the job done faster, but again, the 550 is a great saw. Fairly light, well balanced, nimble, and powerful.

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  4 месяца назад +2

      I sure know the 550 is excellent. My thinking was more along the lines of pushing the platform pas where it really ought to have been pushed. For example, it is no secret the bearings have had issues. I just was thinking with the more aggressive tune, the crank stuffers and general more performance, all the components are the same and I thought the more docile saw would have a better chance at lasting more time into the future. If I had a 550, I think I would truly like it! They are very fun to run. A 20" light bar would be very cool on that machine. Thank you for sharing and safe cutting!

    Mr Joe. There is definitely a gremlin in that saw. I think its time to cut your losses and frustrations since the dealer cant even figure out the issues. I really feel like the manufacturer should make it right as mush as that saw cost

      I have tried to reach out to them. Crickets. My dealer has been good and their countenance dropped the last time I walked in with it. I literally ran this thing so hard in some of the hottest OK day s with a long bar buried in white oak and it never skipped a beat other than having to fast idle it. It has been flawless for months and then BOOM!

If there was a lemon law for chainsaws, I would have qualified and that my friend is on the manufacturer not the dealer/servicer. Correct me if I am wrong.

      Thank you Eric! Good luck and I bet the saw will perform flawlessly. I know Husqvarna can do it...... it seems as if they use some very long term beta testers from my perspective. I thought with the improvement throughout the years, the 562 would be a safe bet. I am familiar with the original 372XT issues. As far as I am aware, there has not been a Mark II of that and it has proven to be an excellent saw in the latest iterations. I used false logic it seems..... at least in my case.

    I love my 545. I was hesitant to buy it at first but I am glad I did. It does 80% of the felling and cutting. When I need a little more saw I grab a cs590 or the 620. The husky has always started easily and runs great. I haven't really paid attention to the fuel tank size between it and my 261, but it seems to run quite a bit longer on a tank of fuel.

    Hey man! another good video!👍🏻 I ported one of my 545's and I'm running a 24" full comp 3/8 with no issues. (video to hit my channel when i get time🤣🤣) Timed cuts; it now pulls equal (maybe a second faster) than my 562xp with a 24" full comp. Like your 562, I have a MS261 M-Tronic that has some serious issues, was not even useable when I got it. I work on it for an hour or 2, make minor improvements, then i put it on the shelf for a month or so. Then I work on it again, and so on. I changed the fuel solenoid valve twice resulting only minor improvements. My latest improvement: I put a brand new carb on it. Although it's still not 100%, it is a different saw now. It's useable and it will just about hang with my (other) muffler modded 545. I'll mess with it again next month. Right now my 562xp is on the bench for porting and needs my attention... the 545 will not outrun it for long.😁😁 Keep the great vids coming! Good luck with the 562 and saw safe!

      As a toy, that sure sound fun! I just feel as if we would have a case of a 4 cyl Honda that will beat a 5.0 mustang or LS1 in the 1/4 mile but not do it all day long sorta scenario. I really need to muffler mod my two 5 series. The cost of the muffler is too much for me to give it a go on my own however since I have never done it. That is interesing about your 261C. Was it under warranty when you purchased? Did you take it in? I love how you can swap the solenoid for so affordably on those saws. Was the carb a reasonable price? I think these AutoTune carbs are quite pricey as they are sold as an entire unit and no other way. Good luck on the Stihl. I am very interested in owning one of the 261 saws.

      The 261 was not under warranty when I bought it. It’s an m-tronic 2.0 version (2018). I bought it on line from an alleged “saw shop”. They had no clue what they were doing. Fortunately, I have very little money in the saw and I can afford to mess with it until I get it right. The carb was $89. Not really bad for a NIB OEM m-tronic carb.🤷🏻‍♂️ and it made a huge difference! I have not had it hooked up at a dealer yet, I still have a couple things to do before I do that. I hope your 562 gets better, they really are an awesome saw. Mine’s on my bench right now apart. Hoping to have time in the next couple days to cut the squish band and base, then work on the ports.🤞🏼👍🏼. Keep the awesome videos coming & saw safe! 902, you can just pull over the 562 after 1 -10 minutes of sitting? Wow! That would be so nice man! If I shut her off and restart immediately, I can do so without fast idle. Almost never will it do that after a few minutes however. Very interesting stuff. I just think there is something wrong with this saw. Again, part of the reason it has not been modded is so I can hand it to the dealer and say, please repair this. I am thankful that I have not had to throw any physical $ at this saw with the exception of probably $100 in fuel and many hours of drive time. Probably at least 8 hours so far. That my friend, would have paid for the 572 or a 400c and I do regret the purchase. Thank you for watching another and sharing. I let a friend run the 562 and 620 yesterday and he basically noticed how smooth and compact the 562 is. Great saw from an operators perspective for sure. Such a bummer about that 562. I wonder if there is something going on with the fuel tank breather on it if heat is the issue. Iv had saws boil the fuel before when its hot out and winter blend fuel gets used. A few years ago i was working a hot spring day with some gas i had bought before the refineries had switched back to summer blend. 2 of my 3 saws boiled the fuel and would not run. 500i and, echo 4910 heat the fuel tank enough that winter gas on a warm day is no good. Echo 590 didn't care. It drank boiling gas for hours and got the job done. My experience is certain saws are fussier about winter blend gasoline.

    Wish I knew more details about the the operating system and parameters autotune uses. I'm with you on wandering if there's some #s outside of where they should be and the tech/techs who plug it in just aren't noticing?
    I know you've kept a good clean fuel filter in it but am still curious if some fines might be in the carb. If comfortable with it, I'd pull the pump side of carb off just to see if there's any debris in the screen or anywhere in that side of the carb. I understand for most dealers/repair centers it's not realistic but believe they should have a small ~6" and large 16"+ test logs if for no other reason than these problem child saws.

I tried your gas cap trick on the 390, it may have been that. I idled through about 3/4 of a tank. It was running fine then started to get a little weird. Cracked the cap and it seemingly cleaned up. I am going to do some cutting with it shortly to find out what it is doing. Specifically, if it goes funky, I will crack the cap and then see if it goes back normal. I also sprayed brake cleaner all over the boot, PTO side and tried on the flywheel side. Didn't find anything in particular.

    Humor me. The next time you use your 562XP & it acts up, put a brand new NGK CMR6H spark plug in it immediately. Carry a new spark plug & spark plug wrench in your pocket when using that saw. Don't change anything about the saw until it acts up again, & then install a new spark plug. This is someone else's story -
    "Before taking the saw to the shop, I decided to try a new spark plug - even though I knew it could not cause an intermittent problem. IT WORKED! I waited this long to report back because I wanted to run it a few times to be sure. I just ran three tanks of fuel through it today with no issues. I have never had a spark plug fail in that manner before in any machine at any time these last 45 years. The old plug was a Bosch, probably not more than 15 hours on it (10 is more likely). The new plug is a NGK."
    Humor me Joe. Please don't put in a new spark plug until it acts up again. Let it act up & put in a new spark plug. Change one variable when the problem arises again. I'm 61 years old & 90% of my small engine repairs are a new spark plug. My two Honda ATVs are 39 & 28 years old. Outside of having the starter rebuilt on the older machine, I've replaced spark plugs (I'm not including batteries, because I can kick start them without one). These are older machines. If they don't run right, it's the spark plug. It's NEVER been anything else! If something doesn't run right & you're not trying a new spark plug first, you are really wasting everyone's time. My 4 chainsaws are 19 years old & older. Two were my Dad's, but I personally have never taken a chainsaw to a dealer for repairs. I've had to replace spark plugs to make them run right again, however. Sometimes a new spark plug can suck. Try two if that's what it takes. I'm just sharing what works for me. I own one grass/brush trimmer. I bought it brand new in 1994. It will be 30 years old this summer. Sometimes, it needs a new spark plug!

I figured, surely, we are not in beta testing stage still! hahaha.. By they way, it will not sit on my bench. I am going to run it and you bet, I will record my experience. I will always maintain it is nice to run and will mention it is working perfectly. Gremlins stink friend!

      @oakiewoodsman thats crazy dude. Try reaching out to the Canadian reps. That shit wouldn't fly up here. Reliability and durability are 90% of the factors for me personally. If it's not reliable, i have 0 use for it. A 592 probably doesn't make sense for you, honestly. You're not pulling 36+ inch bars and definitely not regularly. If you get that 460 squared away, it would do you more than well enough for what you got down there. I'd save your money. It's a wicked saw don't get me wrong, but for 99% of people, it's really not necessary. Ported 572 would be more suited for what's down there, but again, you got a 460 and a ported 620, so there's not much need for that anyway. I'm glad you got a splitter, BTW. I haven't watched it yet, maybe after I'm done welding this new winch bracket in place later.

    Yes the saw has problems but i blame your Dealer more than the saw! Thousands of people have had no issues including me. There's always a saw no matter what the brand is that has issues and you fall into that category. My 550mk2 has 75hrs on it with no issues also! Sorry for your bad luck!

      I agree friend. It may also be a mixture of different things as well. For example, humidity, fuel type, temperature, elevation and usage. We will see friend. I just wish it ran as good as my 545. I also blame the dealer. The problem is, the issue has not been repeatable by them. I cannot take it to them broken. It always runs fine when there. I ran it fine for months in hard conditions just fine

    Don't know where your located but a good dealer makes all the difference.. you obviously got a lemon and i am sure Husqvarna doesn't even know anything about it... Your dealer is useless... Also I recommend going to a 572 xp and put a long bar on it so you can save your back and not bend over all the time... I'm 6' 2'' and run a 32 inch bar on my 572 with no problems

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  4 месяца назад

      This saw normally runs a 28" bar as does my 620P. I purchased this over a 572 because most of the wood I cut doesn't need it. I can stand up and buck effectively with a 28 because I am shorter than you. I have run my friend 372XT with a 32 skip and it is nice but not needed for me. I will likely run something longer on a larger displacement saw.
      As far as dealers go, they are far and few between in my region. Numerous dealers that sell Husqvarna will service everything but the AutoTune. Husqvarna does not have a very significant market share in my area. It is all Stihl and some ECHO. Thank you for watching and commenting

      Buddy, it may come to that but I am not in a position to spend more money on it at this moment. Shipping is prohibitive and I have a meteor piston to purchase for my 460. As I have said before I think Husqvarna should give you a new saw. I don't think your saw is right, I have a MK2 550 that is ported I did consider a MK2560/2 but after seeing your problems I think I will wait. Thanks for sharing I hope Husqvarna are watching.

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you for watching and commenting. I like what you say to an extent. The autotune saws run so well but the issue is that they mask issues by adjusting past them. That makes it hard to tell what is going on. If a regular carb saw suddently goes funky, and you have to tune it in order for it to be more "right" you know you are tuning around trouble. That is IMO the only issue with AutoTune/Mtronic. Thank you again!
