Thank you for your update. Don’t be so hard on yourself. The world will do that for you. You still had a successful propagation. That’s a win! I look forward to your future videos. I have subscribed to your channel because of your honesty of the Rubber Plant series.

Thanks so much for posting this! We learn more from our failures than successes, so this is extremely helpful to those of us who are making our way through the propogation process. I love it!

I've never propagated my elasticas and I want to so badly right now, but I know I need to wait until it gets warmer. I'm glad you published this just as my resolve was weakening. Just need to hold out a few more months!

Thank you, thank you! You probably just saved my rubber tree and my marriage (this is his favorite. He couldn’t care less about any other plant I own, but this one… you’d think he gave birth to it 🙄). 2 days from now I was planning on cutting my 6” tall rubber tree. I’ve never cut it, so I came looking for the how to’s. Just watched the “before” video, glad I searched for the “after” so I know what to do and what not to do.

I think that's good!! not all cuttings take.. at least you got 2 new plants and alot of growth on mama from all that 😁 I'm in Florida there's massive ones growing wild all over my neighborhood. I have taken 3 great cuttings and NONE of them have worked out. I'm gonna try again in March. It'll be spring, warm, humid, plus growing season. I have a green house now so I'll keep it in there. I can't go wrong right 😂 .... we'll see 👀

I learnt from rubber plant cutting to use wax so burn a candle to cover the sap of the cutting.

I cut them and moisten the tip with honey and put it in wet soil BUT what I did different is put the entire plant with the pot into a large plastic bag so that it doesn't need watering (it keeps it moist) and sit it for 4 weeks and because that worked for me.

Thanks for keeping it real! I'm in research mode because I've been fighting a losing battle against mealybugs and am thinking of propagating my ruby in hopes of saving it...but we shall see.

What happened to the baby plant?

I've been following your rubber plant saga, and I think you have been a little hard on yourself in your analysis of what went wrong. as soon as you started the video and said that you had tried to root the cuttings in water, in Buffalo during the winter lol that was it- it was too cold. you can get a 10" x 20" seedling heating mat on amazon for like $15 and that would solve the problem. it just warms up the medium you put on it by 10 to 20 degrees above ambient and those cuttings would have rooted. the other thing I noticed in the earlier video was that you didn't like to remove the leaves on stem cuttings. unfortunately, the leaves are how most of the water leaves the plant when trying to propagate so they have to go to be successful. I usually will take a 4 - 6 node stem cutting and remove all leaves but the top 2 or 3. anyway, I like your channel and wish you more success in the future!
