    Tried this on my A3 1.8t. No noise anymore, thanks! (and also you can do this job only from above engine, only it's little more fiddling)

    Impressed by the one handed disassembly 😄Another good idea while the battery tray is off is to clean the 3 ground bolts underneath it. Undo everything, brush down both threads, reassemble and grease. Twill save many an hour wondering why random electrical components won't work.

    Great video,best instructions I have seen so far. Does the tutorial also works for a Golf 4 1.4 16V 2003?

      Thank you for your comment!
      Yes, it’s exactly the same process. Have done it on a 1.6 👍 just the motor is slightly different size

    After 11 years of ownership I simply cleaned all the battery earth to car body and bell housing and no more lazy battery starts or starter motor squeals

    I still don't understand how brushing the dust solved the problem.
    I suppose this noise is because the starter didn't retract fast enough. Which means that the push and pull mechanism is wear out and you need another.

    So you only have to clean off the dirt so it is not noisy anymore? Thats it??

    so it was the oily soot that was the problem ?

    • @Ajgarage
      @Ajgarage  2 года назад +1

      Dust and grime can build up and cause it to not operate properly, especially as these components can be 20+ years now without being changed.
      Others have opened up the starter motor fully and greased the gearings as well

      I have done the instructions in the video and even taken apart the motor and cleaned with a brush unfortunately I still have the same problem, same noise, if I grease it would that solve it and can I grease it with vaseline? or is there soot/dust in the engine part, (the part the starter motor goes into). Frustrated at this point for me

      @@hamptons2945 Just buy one off of ECS tuning , send in your old one and they’ll pay you $ 90.00 for your old core ( starter ) .
