I really dig Kevin Sharp's style at this period. Something so damn cool bout a grind singer who wears a cowboy hat! Just sums up how much they moved out of the mould with 'Sounds'.
Just heard about this band in Ian Christe's book on metal along with a quote from a Japanese fan saying " Brutal Truth play so good in Osaka, I cry." I'm glad I looked them up they are amazingly technically creative blurring the lines between grind/death and punk!
fuck yeah, Total Fucking Destruction is Badass. When I saw Brutal Thruth Live, I was just blown away by Richard Hoak's playing...a true master of his small drumm.
This song is from 'Sounds...' their last album! Anyway their later stuff was way more out there and interesting anyway in my opinion. Early stuff was ok but not much to set them apart from countless other grind by numbers bands. 'Sounds...' had the best album art too I reckon!
hard to say, but brutal truth particulally on "sounds of the animal kingdom" sounds as a one unique nihilistic grindcore band. Curiously, if you check all their albums, you can realize that they sounded very modern on "extreme conditions" and on "need to control" even closer to industrial metal...but the they started to sound rawer on "kill trend suicide" and on "sounds..." they became definitly a raw and extreme band.
It wasn't until the late 80`s that the "Florida Death" bands had a newer sound basically defined by production from one particular studio. But still with very restricted lyrical content.
I trust Brutal Truth and I'm sure that comming album will be great...Dan Lilker and crew never talk bullshit to their fans,I am true one of them.Dan says that new album will be mix of style from Extreme conditions and Sounds Of animal kingdome...so be ready.
3dd656-stupid how? That's how Death, Hate and Black Metal were defined in the early 80`s when all bands wanted to separate themselves from the thrash or speed metal tags. E.g. Kreator called themselves "hate metal", possessed "death metal" they are both essentially thrash bands but with lyrics dominated by one main theme. At the same time Nuclear Assault, DRI ,Suicidal Tendencies and Agnostic Front were being called "crossover" as they contained elements of thrash and hardcore.
@kobkube In fairness you can't say they've gone the way of Napalm Death for example who've gotten more and more formulaeic with each album since pretty much their death metal phase kicked in. Brutal Truth might have added more death to their sound but they're still reliably as brutal as a brick to the face as ever.
@SquidsGotJeans I really hope you don't mean the JBs as in James Brown. But, I'm assuming the reference may be something else. Because The JBs laid down some of the best funk you can get. So did Brutal Truth, but I like all kinds. :)
@jprp999 well I sometimes do not understand the difference between the genres in these days. I understand that both have a different background but sometimes I just don't hear any difference. I do like both genres but am confused about the distinction. Because when I read Dying Fetus' (a death metal band) lyrics, I read a political text and statement.
coxyomommasaid "This is literally grind hardcore wheras PD and that whole scene are more grind mathcore," I love how some guys literally have no clue as to what kind of genre of music they are even listening too. PD are not a matchcore band, If It wasn't for Brutal Truth there would be a good chance we wouldn't even have bands like PD.
this is grindcore (which is an offspring of crust punk, and kind of a sister-genre to both death metal and hardcore)... it is hard to make a difference, though, here you can hear it in the guitar riffs (sound a lot punk-ish to me) not metal, but definitely awesome!
not my scene anymore, but just...fucking wow. this is what a train wreck would sound like if it were being simultaneously fucked by the devil and another train wreck. super bad ass.
reapsoul you know fuck all about grind if you call benighted or suffocation grindcore. (old)napalm death, dahmer, vomit spawn, brutal fucking truth, dead infection, flesh parade, insect warfare. THAT FUCKING GRIND BABY!!!!!!!!
@cacasheetpipi For a metal band? Yeah, they're older guys - but they still make music, still kick ass, still sound great. Check out their song Sugar Daddy.
Ummm I beg to differ, see if you were like me who happens to be Harvard educated on the philosophies of notated structured noise created solely by instrumentation, or music, you would already know that this type of music falls into the category of technical jizz metal, which evolved from its earlier predecessor, jizzgrind.
i wouldn't mind the negative comments so much if the spelling was better. the haters aren't putting themselves across very well and, excuse my frankitude, generally sound a bit stupid. bless 'em.
This is just my opinion I'm gettin a bit fed up of people debating what isnt and is a genre, at the end of the day they are simply labels and thats it, you should be more focused on whether the music moves you in some way, genre and labels really shouldnt come into it in my opinion.
Their first album was incredible, but I had a hard time getting into this band after that. Something between the vocals and and the sort of hollow sound don't quite work for me. Extreme Conditions sounds like it was written by a different band.
Cancer Söze i would also point to bands like Human Remains and Agoraphobic Nosebleed for the evolution of GC and probably other mid to late 90s metalcore, screamo and other hardcore bands that basically pushed the -core genre further from their 80s roots. People have no idea how influential Brutal Truth is and how much of a masterpiece Need To Control is.
@@leetorry Hey it's good to have Uhear someone talk about Human Remains. I still have Using Sickness as a Hero on CD. I've even got Wes Benscoters album art for a tattoo.
I really dig Kevin Sharp's style at this period. Something so damn cool bout a grind singer who wears a cowboy hat! Just sums up how much they moved out of the mould with 'Sounds'.
One of my favorites from this great album.
itz top 3 or 5 from that record
killer af
true that heavy metal is all about open mindedness and acceptance for those who are rejected elsewhere.
Just heard about this band in Ian Christe's book on metal along with a quote from a Japanese fan saying " Brutal Truth play so good in Osaka, I cry." I'm glad I looked them up they are amazingly technically creative blurring the lines between grind/death and punk!

"sounds..." is an amazing album. Jazz.
Simplicity into a dirge! Awesome!!!!

Just ordered this album from amazon, cant wait!!! =]
The ENTIRE "Sounds Of The Animal Kingdom" is BRUTAL AS FUCK!!! Probably their heaviest, most extreme album with some killer songs to boot!
It's the tits and ass
ÒOOtima banda!!!!!!
ótima música!!!!!
Tanto tecnicamente quanto conceitualmente!!!!!
Simplismente maravilhoso!!!!!!!
Catastrófico!!!
it's grind.it's good.

This album is cold.
I wish I still had my white long sleeve shirt I got when this came out. It was the only white shirt I owned at the time 😄
BRUTAL TRUTH IS THE BEST!!!
Gran banda!!! musica de la buena!!!!
you're right! and the growls the best! love this band! from first album!
This song is from 'Sounds...' their last album! Anyway their later stuff was way more out there and interesting anyway in my opinion. Early stuff was ok but not much to set them apart from countless other grind by numbers bands. 'Sounds...' had the best album art too I reckon!
yeah.. im stoned and watching this.. and this OWNS!
in the truth we trust

❤❤❤❤❤ Brutal Truth ❤❤❤❤❤
one of my heroes
bout time!!
It wasn't until the late 80`s that the "Florida Death" bands had a newer sound basically defined by production from one particular studio. But still with very restricted lyrical content.
belive me, i can verify that the metalcore scene and hardcore scene are two completley different scenes.
i like your music taste, solid shit.
This song has a punk element to it at some points, I like this in a metal band.
this song is fuckn excellent!i cant wait for their new album..\m/
I trust Brutal Truth and I'm sure that comming album will be great...Dan Lilker and crew never talk bullshit to their fans,I am true one of them.Dan says that new album will be mix of style from Extreme conditions and Sounds Of animal kingdome...so be ready.
It's just produced different....ie. it's fookin' raw lad! which is a welcome change from most/anything comin out these days IMHO.
converge/brutal truth split was awesome
Didnt they fold back in the 90's. Kev Sharp is in Venomous Concept now..
Kevin is really sharp in this vid, still grind!!!
@jprp999 the difference between grind and death metal is the riffs (scales used) not the lyrical themes
man... brutal truth and pungent stench are the SHIT!
@jprp999 I'm with your opinion for this song. Just a question: 'Brutal Truth - Denial of existence', would you define it as grind or as death?
You sure showed him.
That part that starts at 1:55. Tight
awesome band
28 seconds you mean. :)
And yes, the song "Prey" owns.
this is pretty kool :):).... but i have one question is this in the metal genre.. or is it classfied as hardcore you know,, like Hatebreed???
Kevin Sharp works at Santulo's in Chicago on North Avenue. Mention his name and get a free slice.

Wow an old Brutal Truth song, I loved their older stuff...Newer stuff wasn't terrible just not as good as earlier shit.
music to my ears!... ;0
@SquidsGotJeans I really hope you don't mean the JBs as in James Brown. But, I'm assuming the reference may be something else. Because The JBs laid down some of the best funk you can get. So did Brutal Truth, but I like all kinds. :)
I've never done drugs im my life and I like grindcore...
Mostly Benighted, Impending Doom, Exhale, and Suffocation though...
@jprp999 well I sometimes do not understand the difference between the genres in these days. I understand that both have a different background but sometimes I just don't hear any difference. Man, this is some great shit. Interesting video too.
reaktywacja !!!
this genre is a mix of punk with grind maybe?
this is grindcore (which is an offspring of crust punk, and kind of a sister-genre to both death metal and hardcore)... it is hard to make a difference, though, here you can hear it in the guitar riffs (sound a lot punk-ish to me)
not metal, but definitely awesome!
SSSHHHHHUUUUTTTTTTTTTUUUPPPP.

Holy shit a grindcore band with good guitar tone!?
love this band! it sounds like grindcore,is it or is it death metal?
sO fucking sick!! hellyeah!!
how the fuck did these guys get a record deal??????
yeea eso es grindcore verdadero
BRUTAL TRUTH FUCKING RULES YEAH
This is Grind, if it was death it would have lyrics pretty much just about death-simple as that.
the song "choice a new generation? has a video?
thanks
balbo13
not my scene anymore, but just...fucking wow. this is what a train wreck would sound like if it were being simultaneously fucked by the devil and another train wreck.
super bad ass.
fuck yeah.
Dan Lilker is a fucking beast
When is this from?
1997
@SquidsGotJeans but isnt that what you just did?
reapsoul you know fuck all about grind if you call benighted or suffocation grindcore.
(old)napalm death, dahmer, vomit spawn, brutal fucking truth, dead infection, flesh parade, insect warfare. THAT FUCKING GRIND BABY!!!!!!!!
brutal truth is rad and blink is dank, eaugh, ur dead smart, you guys are cute when you argue,
@cacasheetpipi For a metal band? Yeah, they're older guys - but they still make music, still kick ass, still sound great. Check out their song Sugar Daddy.
BEST
FUCKING
BAND
EVER
@eemm8101 yes, indeed XD
It's death metal/Grindcore.
the hardcore scene is def not "gay" now.
Ummm I beg to differ, see if you were like me who happens to be Harvard educated on the philosophies of notated structured noise created solely by instrumentation, or music, you would already know that this type of music falls into the category of technical jizz metal, which evolved from its earlier predecessor, jizzgrind.
I wish I could understand what he was saying.
This song will break your picking hand sounds easy?...nope.
Seconded!
i wouldn't mind the negative comments so much if the spelling was better. the haters aren't putting themselves across very well and, excuse my frankitude, generally sound a bit stupid. bless 'em.
ダンリルカーさあコラプテッドのシャツ着てるね
hahaha, well said, here here
Im a drug free , civil disobedient grindfreak ...
you cut me down behind my back. you turn back the facts. reaching your conclusions, your theories lack the facts.
You really haven't heard much, have you?
This is just my opinion
I'm gettin a bit fed up of people debating what isnt and is a genre, at the end of the day they are simply labels and thats it, you should be more focused on whether the music moves you in some way, genre and labels really shouldnt come into it in my opinion.
I prefer hearing my grandma fart to listening to Blink 182.
me likey..
this is a good metal garage band, but nothing more
@xxpeniskingxx Yea, but this music already killed the muse..... You didn't hear it in the brutality?! Of course not.
@MisterNice3 it's grindcore
@juanRistite but my musick taste is the BEST anyway!
not that closeminded, considering they got the idea of speed in the music from hardcore.
screw the adds
Their first album was incredible, but I had a hard time getting into this band after that. Something between the vocals and and the sort of hollow sound don't quite work for me. Extreme Conditions sounds like it was written by a different band.
need to control is the reinvention of grindcore, years after some bands did it too, like nasum or pig destroyer but these guys did it first
Cancer Söze i would also point to bands like Human Remains and Agoraphobic Nosebleed for the evolution of GC and probably other mid to late 90s metalcore, screamo and other hardcore bands that basically pushed the -core genre further from their 80s roots.
