Even though they came from a punk/grindcore background they evolved into a pretty musically sophisticated band without losing that violent edge. Love this band!
@biorhythmicshifter True! They formed in 1981. They dropped "Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism" in 2020, almost 40 years later (!!!!!!!) and it's just as brutal and heavy as "Scum". Very few bands have done that.
Thank You so much for this interview.. definitely 1 of the true Godfathers of Extreme Metal and honestly one of the nicest people's I have had the pleasure of meeting on multiple occasions back innthe 90's.. so glad for the Subtitles because if you have ever talked with him in person, you know they can be helpful 😁. Shane is to Extreme Metal what LEMMY was to Heavy Metal.. crucial and irreplaceable.. a GOD
The moment I realised I could surrender to the fact that i was (am) powerless over drugs and alcohol, that I had lost so much because I kept kidding myself that I could have them AND a life, everything started to fall back in to place for me. I still struggle, but I face my troubles instead of putting the mask on and pretending they weren't there. More power to you Shane 🤘🙂🤘
Man, Lee Dorrian loves this guy so much…I spent a night in the Crobar with him and the stories about Shane were amazing. As a journalist I interviewed him twice and yes: he’s an amazing human being
Back in the mid 90’s we would play the live corruption video over and over.. it is the most comprehensive instructional video on how to kick ass with music ever created. Absolutely brutal.
Knew Shane well in the late 80’s when I worked in Costermongers (Irish tom) here. Very fond memories of hanging out regularly with Shane, Jessie & Mitch. We were more hair and punk metal guys but none of us cared because we just enjoyed the craic! Lovely to see you Shane. Great guy!
Napalm Death easily in my top 5 favorite bands ever. A truly inspiration on music and their own career perhaps their difficulties and lineup changes. Shane’s book is amazing reflecting all this through the years. Great video!
I was on their tour in Poland in 2019 i think it was. I even met juan brujo and we joked it was the "hongo fest" at that night/tour Shane played with Lockup, Brujeria and Napalm Death. That takes some stamina right there. Fkn legend!
I hope Shane is doing okay health wise. I didn’t know about him going to the hospital for a week after performing. I do know he missed perform a few shows with Nasum in 2012 because of health issues.
Definitely my fave interview with Shane. Very introspective and a bit vulnerable. Napalm Death has been an inspiration since Harmony Corruption onwards on and off over the years. I will always thank Shane and Barney dedicating songs to Cardiacs as well... making sure they helped others discover that treasure trove of insight. Shane has been there through most of it though. I was massively depressed about Micky leaving ND. Kept wishing there would be one show where Micky would do a short set. Or maybe Lee, Micky, Shane, and Bill could do a couple songs off the Mentally Murdered EP. Yeah, the past is the past, but it has shaped the present quite nicely.
It always amazes me how many supremely talented musicians struggle with mental health whilst playing shows to thousands of fans who rely on that music for their own mental health🤘🏻😐🤘🏻
superb interview with a legendary musician and all-around great guy, love everything he's done and continues to do! however, the ominous background ambient music makes me feel like i'm watching a documentary about a serial killer who's describing matter-of-factly about how he encountered & dispatched his victims lol
One of the most important bassists in history of heavy music, absolutely leader of Napalm Death. He's given the right worth that one instrument must have in music.Sometimes, people have tuned it out and putting this one on worthless position.
I fucking love this guy. He has done so much for the grind and noise scene but has gone unapreciated. Met him several times in the Brum hangouts .He rememberd my name which was cool. His book is on my list of things to do
Just a legend in UK hard music. You could like Napalm Death if you were a punk and Shane was the cornerstone of the band and the history of crossover. Would love to have a pint(s) with him.
Very down to earth guy, anxiety can be a real bitch. Saw Napalm death live at the full force festival, went mental, that energy, cathartic, otherworldly. Also loved the stuff from venomous concept. But napalm death is something special, a mix of almost every music genre i like and it has that raw punk vibe that i love, no excuses just upfront mayhem.
Wow, just wow. And he is so right about taking your mask off. During my touring I've learned to take off that mask after every show. Getting both feet on the ground again.
Everything Shane says in this clip is brilliant and worth listening to. What i absolutely do NOT appreciate is the lighting, editing and sound/score. The entire production is actively working against everything Shane says and dragging it down. Shane is straight up talking with no bs about problems, worries, hard times etc. and you thought it was a good idea to add distasteful / eerie music and spooky editing. This video should be deleted an redone.
You know you'd be seeing an interview with a hardcore Brummie English man, because there are subtitles… in English! 🤯 Damn, Napalm Death… I was 12 (yes, twelve!) when I bought Utopia Banished (1992).
Having a lovely guy like Shane talking and then putting those eerie ambient horror sounds in the background is unintentionally hilarious.
It's a great way to distract from and fuck up a good interview.
Even though they came from a punk/grindcore background they evolved into a pretty musically sophisticated band without losing that violent edge. Love this band!
More "complex" doesn't mean sophisticated, son!
@@Radowitzkiyeah but they did become more sophisticated in their 30s 40s and on more so than when they were 15
@@Radowitzki same difference bro…
@biorhythmicshifter True!

I was on the top deck of a London bus with Lee Dorrian once, and he was talking very fondly about Shane, I recall. Evidently a top bloke.
This interview was brilliant. Eerie music, black and white footage. In depth questions.
WE NEED MORE LIKE THIS.
One of the nicest musicians I have ever met, always happy to chat with the fans.
A very brave man for being so open!!!!
He seems highly intelligent and and, of course, artistic
@@kaudsiz Agreed; I never thought that he'd be such a deep person.

Exactly! Interviews where famous people open up and show their human sides
This is the first time I cried watching an interview. The depth of an extreme music artist is heartwarming .
Such a legend GRIND FOREVER!
Excellent interview with shane embury 🎤🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🥁
I love this guy. Shane seems so thoughtful and humble.
Yes, Shane, it's been a long road until today, your words reverberate in me. Thanks for the good times and the best for you in the future!

Thank you Shane

I've been a fan of NAPALM DEATH & BRUJERIA since high school, Shane rules!!!
Thanks Shane for all your work and knowledge.
Woooo, that background music is eerie.😂
Kind of fitting, to be honest
🤘👹
imho, it is way too loud and distracting
It's like an interview with some serialkiller
@@renekraan8125 To some extent - he is. :D
I really dig the ambience, music and camera work. Great interview
Words of wisdom and a look into the beginnings... Thank you Shane!

Shane's a hero to me, lucky to meet him briefly a couple of times - such a genuine very nice man
Absolutely A Legend Mr. Shane Embury A Gridcore Legend much respect 🤘🤘

2017. Time goes fast.
I Absolutely love this man. An absolute legend in my book. Inspired me to start playing bass and really got me into grindcore with Napalm Death.
I saw Napalm Death and Brujeria back '22 at the Paradise and it was amazing. Hope they tour again soon.
SO much respect for this man...he will always be an inspiration no matter what he does.
I hope Shane is doing okay health wise. I didn’t know about him going to the hospital for a week after performing. I do know he missed perform a few shows with Nasum in 2012 because of health issues.
The music almost turned him into a serial killer 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I thought I was watching a new episode of “I am a killer” 😅
Could have watched hours more of that. Super likeable guy, well spoken, soft spoken
Always has interesting things to say
Big fan, cheers Shane!
Shane, the Legend! All his bands and projetcs are so good!
some of my favourite recorded bass tones ever appearing across ND's albums. love Shane
4:44 stuff that comes from admitting things to yourself that you don’t want to admit. 😢
I felt that a lot.

Wow. What a great interview.
Utopia Banished , Napalm Death .
I completely LOVE this album.
Greetings from Western Australia ❤😂

Excellent video! Shane’s a great guy! Always kind whenever I’ve encountered him! Thanks for sharing this with us!
Very open and beautiful interview!!
Your a legend Shane. Thank you sir for Napalm Death. Been my go to it band since I discovered you fella's in the late 80s.
Love you Shane. Did not know this. Wishing you all the best 🙏🙏🔥🔥
Cheers to you Shane and thank you for everything you do.

Love this, very in-depth and philosophical. Please do more interviews like this.
Huge words... from a certainly huge person..
Music in the back makes it seem like he’s confessing to multiple murders
Thank you Shane for all the great shows and music you've given.🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
What a cool interview!!🤘😎🤘
Shane you are praised and respected globally. I'm here in Venice ca and ND always been Gs. F***n love you guys
A true Legend of metal and life!!
Absolutely love Napalm Death. Also LockUp is amazing! Shane is an absolute legend!
Good interview. Shane always comes across as very likeable. Saw ND last month. Still excellent.
Shane Embury is a legend!
Big respect to Shane.
Absolutely fantastic, excellent interview
The grind legend himself
Great chat. The story of Shane meeting Dio gets me every time.
7:32 coming down to earth is tough.
I felt that 🥲
One of the most important bassists in history of heavy music, absolutely leader of Napalm Death. He's given the right worth that one instrument must have in music.Sometimes, people have tuned it out and putting this one on worthless position.
Great interview. I especially like Shane's comments on Mick Harris.
One of the best interviews I’ve ever seen
Gotta check out his book.
I fucking love this guy. He has done so much for the grind and noise scene but has gone unapreciated. Met him several times in the Brum hangouts .He rememberd my name which was cool. His book is on my list of things to do
The drummer from Heresy was purposely trying to outdrum the drummer from DRI.
Mick said: Hold my beer😂
I like everything in this interview except the music in the background. It could be more hidden, sometimes it was louder then Shane's voice.
Just a legend in UK hard music. You could like Napalm Death if you were a punk and Shane was the cornerstone of the band and the history of crossover. Would love to have a pint(s) with him.
Is there going to be a longer-form version of this interview? Fascinating listening to Shane!
He also plays bass in the legendary band Brujeria
Very good interview

Good ole shane🤘🏻
Legend. I've never heard dude talk, but he should narrate some books.
One of my favorite musicians, his sound is unique and uncompromising. How many songs have Napalm Death recorded over the years?
The interview was good, but what’s going on with the soundtrack? It’s total Mikey Mouse, telling you exactly what to feel.
Shane ❤
What's up with that eerie background music?

Brujeria!
2:50 napalm Death had more airtime on the radio than Guns N’ Roses and pixies and people were pissed about it.
