OpenVPN as a client, at least for this type of router and connection will let you access your main office but not resources in the branch Office. It's sort of unidirectional if I may use such term in IP comms.
Hi, thanks for the video. Exactly what I was looking for to simply OpenVPN. If I am understanding correctly, do I need two of these routers to do the OpenVPN server client?
I have tried many times, many scenarios, and either brand you choose, try to have the same hardware on both ends as it makes things much easier. Also start with simple setups and start steping up security. Never leave it too basic.
Hi, Great tutorial! I have several PLCs and embedded boards in my office, and I would like to connect these PLCs to a local IP through a router with a VPN client. This router will then connect to my main router, which has internet access. I have a team of 5 engineers who work remotely, and I plan to set up a VPN server on the cloud, where I can create accounts for each of them. They will install VPN client software on their PCs to securely access the PLCs and other devices in my office from home. I would appreciate any guidance you can provide on setting this up. I am not allowed to make any changes to the Main router in the office which is connected to the internet but allowed to do whatever is necessary on the Router with the VPN client which is behind the main router.
Hi, the proceedure would be just as you may have watched on this video, however you do need to have at least the port of the OpenVPN server open and redirected to your router in your office.
@@TechnologyMoments It will help if you can recommend book which can help with the understanding of all the packet encapsulation between each of the devices and applications for taking the ping data between two local devices.
Very good!!! I'm using omada er7206 and I need a client to access the resources (more than one) of another client. Without fixed IP on the client would it be possible?
Sure you can. You can use a Dynamic DNS service such as NoIP or DynDNS. Then you'll connect to an FQDN (name instead of IP), if OpenVPN gets tricky you can always connect using an L2TP/IPSEC VPN
I wanted to create client-server setup, using Android OpenVPN for testing, but it happened that I could get IP address for my client, but it couldn't get internet access. However, I've double checked my VPN settings, the local network I configure is .1 (which is my router address) not .0. Any advice? Thanks
This process of having internet access at client's end is more dependent on the routers' firmware. If you update the firmware, make sure the option full mode is checked so you can have internet access in the client computer.
Sure you can. The only disadvantage may be that in some interfaces you can "tweak" certain parameters and in others you can't, so when you are gonna secure connection in a particular way in both ends, there's a chance you won't find all. This is particularly evident in Unifi gateways.
Hi, thanks for the video. From the client's network, I can see the computers in the server's network and not vice versa. Is it possible to see the client network from the server network with OpenVPN??
Hi, as said in 1:10 OpenVPN client access even in routers is different to IP-sec tunnels that let you have access both ways. Try implementing IP Sec tunneling and you will have access both ways. Here the video: ruclips.net/video/m4sY_IFJUPE/видео.html
Hello, yes it does, as long as your ISP let's you forward the corresponding ports. The other option is request for your router to be bridged over the ISP's router.
Hi, Do you know, how to add by dinamic DNS on the "FIELD REMOTE SERVER" for Open Vpn Client Configuration. That field only allow IP format and my public IP is dinamic. Thanks
Hi we do have experienced the same limitation as for now. It may change in future firmware versions. Let's wait if someone may enlighten us regarding this matter.
Hello! I am looking for a VPN router that I can connect my XBOX to, so I can game on different servers of different regions. The model that I'm looking to buy is the TP-LINK ER605. My question is, can I connect NordVPN to this router and does this router meet the requirements for online gaming on different servers via VPN. Please help.
There could be ways, only if your clients are not to tech savvy :-), managing DNS and gateways from your DHCP, or, you can implement proxy servers within your organization. Even creating policies at the router where only specific clients can access, making them only have permission through the main office
Ping may not respond due to many reasons. If successfully connected but still no ping, local firewall of the target machine may be active and with no exceptions. This video may be of help: ruclips.net/video/xWu5cIaPLkk/видео.htmlsi=vfKE-PZMNCjlPt4N
Good video, but unfortunately it is NOT the same process to set up an ER605 in standalone mode as using the Omada controller, contrary to the commentary. It would be a useful addition to the series to create a new video showing connecting a standalone ER605 to a popular consumer service like ExpressVPN using openvpn, especially since they (and many competitors) no longer support L2TP or IPsec. Even issues in the ER605 like it's inability to accept a server dns name (only an explicit ipv4 address) will throw off most consumers who don't know how to do a simple dns lookup.
We appreciate your comments and taking the time to suggest more content to be added our channel. We eventually did both approaches (controller and standalone) for the site to site connection, but nor for this one. We'll do that. As for these routers only accepting IPs and not FQDNs you are absolutely right. This is something we're asked a lot.
I've tried to connect to Private VPN servers using the same method, it shows is connected but when you look for it in insight tab, I don't see it. Checked my ip address and it doesn't change, any ideas? @@TechnologyMoments
Hi, well that may be a question for NordVPN support. On our side we can tell you that as most routers in the market, it supports l2tp and pptp client connections on the WAN side of the router. It should as with our VPN providers it also has connected with no problem using L2TP.
At 1:23, you say "but not the other way around". How can I make a VPN connection each side can access the other side?

Very useful video! Is there another video that shows me how to use the OpenVPN Client to setup a site-to-site tunnel from behind a firewall/NAT?
Not yet on OpenVPN but very viable with site to site IPsec, redirecting the corresponding ports. Thanks for your comments.

Yes, yopu can use the ER605 (amzn.to/3ele2Mn ) for such connection. First take a look at this : community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/584974
It is possible to block internet on client if vpn is down? So the only way to access internet is tru mainoffice gateway?

Hi
my locola network is 172.16.20.0/23 I can ping some stations on the 172.16.20.0 network but not on the 172.16.21.0 network, how should I do ?

would it work if the client router is behind a NAT ?
Yes, and in particular with OpenVPN it is quite straight through to redirect port and have it working in no time.

How to get the remote server for the client that you type?
Hi, in this particular scenario I used two identical Omada ER605, well one in version 1 and the other one version 2.
Hi, is there a way to configure this with NordVPN?

Curious to know if you got NordVPN to work with the Omada ER605?
