I'm 55 years old and didn't even know Camel existed until about 13 years ago. I live and breathe music and this band in the last several years has probably become my favorite.
Its interesting to hear a Metal fans views on Progressive rock and particularly Camel who have some of the most chilled prog songs. The one thing that cannot be challenged is that, boy can they play, and compared to Gilmour (Floyd), Hackett (genesis), Howe (Yes), the amazing talent of Andrew Latimer seems to go so unrecognised. Would love to see some more Camel or indeed some more Classic Prog on the channel. If you want something a little heavier you might try Porcupine Tree, maybe start with the album ‘Fear of a Blank planet’.
About some of your comments: Mel Collins plays an alto sax, not a clarinet. The bassist in the studio version was Doug Ferguson who left just after the album Moonmadness was released. In the video the bassist is the former Caravan Richard Sinclair. Anyway, the bass line was the same in the two versions.
Galyat, really liked your reaction to Camel. They are one of my all time favorite bands. I agree with your take on it., i liked it, but not one of my most favorites from them. All of their songs are very layered with many build ups. Thats why i like them so much. They are very talented. I really like these more melodic , but Heavy, and a bit controlled chaotic songs 1. Lady Fantasy, 2. Echos 3. Hopeless Anger Great show , hope to tune in again
This is rather different to the studio version, which had no sax as Mel Collins was not in the band. He did add a lot to the band, but they had to change the arrangement of live songs to fit him in. The studio version has a long solo by Andy Latimer which I think may be the best ever recorded.
A Clockwork Orange, LSD, shag carpet and bell bottoms. Sounds like my parents - well maybe substitute the LSD for pot. Maybe react to Bungie - Breadfan. Groovin' song.

Lady Fantasy i would say is their best known - Rayander - Ice - Sahara - Sasquatch - so many great tunes - Latimer is fantastic

Mel plays soprano sax here. Doug did not leave. He was kicked out bc of Andy Ward.
Exactly!!!@@jacobolisa

Amazing Ferguson and Ward 😮😮
That was Richard Sinclair on bass in this version, but Doug was a superb player.

Mel Collins is playing a soprano saxophone I believe.
I think you will like their song 'Sahara', great 🎸 work!! Check out the album The Snow Goose, it's an instrumental one and one of their best.
Maybe check out Never Let Go, the song that inspired Mikael Åkerfeldt to compose the song Benighted.
To me "The Sleeper" is the best Latimer solo. "Ice" is more moving and really close behind...
Try Ice from Never let go live
