Thanks. I've always loved his voice. I was just a little girl when he came on the scene. Two weeks ago I had Turner Classic Movies on and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance came on. I recalled Gene's song. Just loved that song. I've been really getting into his music ever since and watching vids on here. He had a voice like no other and the looks to match. What a lovely smile he had.
It may have been the wine lol. Actually I think the competition was so fierce in America it took away from the sheer joy of performing. When in Europe, that pressure was off. Gene said he never got tired of hearing "Bravo Pitney". It wasn't just screaming girls like here in the States, it was adults in evening clothes who praised his magnificent voice. I miss him. Glad to meet another Pitney fan. :o)
e' mitica questa canzone e sensazionale ed armonica questa voce anno 1964 indimenticabile ero piccolo ma di quel festival ricordo tutto,tutti i cantanti americani che cantavano in italiano.

Oddly they didn't use his recording for the movie, just the instrumental version. However, he did get to sing at the Oscars at age 21 for the movie Town without Pity. I fell in love with him at age 13 when I'm Gonna Be Strong was a hit and I was hooked. Been listening to him ever since and age 60 is around the corner lol He's my favorite singer of all time and has been for 47 yrs. I doubt that will ever change lol. And you are most welcomed. It's never hard to agree on Pitney :o)
Haven't listened to it yet. But will later as today is my day off. He did an interview with a person in the UK. Very interesting. Talked about each song on the set. He said the reason he went to Europe was so he could do the songs he wanted to do. He also said it was very hard to make it over because the country is so big it's hard to promote songs. In the UK he could appear on a couple of tv shows and was able to reach the entire country. He said he didn't know what to with certain songs.

And Gene Pitney and Dionne Warwick.1964 that was the year Gigliola Cinquetti took her song from the festival' Non No L'Eta Per Amarti' And went on to win the Eurovision Song Festival A sweet 16 year old. Got it. You are welcome. I was on Amazon looking for the CD with Heartbreaker and came across the Ultimate Gene Pitney. Figured why settle for 25 songs when I could get fifty. Besides, I've learned from experience with other artists the ultimate discs are the way to go as they contain all the best songs these artists did. Mine is on the way and I can't wait to hear it.
Tonithenightowl Cried when I learned he died. Always adored him and he had a voice like no other. No one can ever replace Gene Pitney. What a beautiful man.
@@christinekilcomons497 Yes, hard to believe he's gone well over a decade. I wish I would have seen him in concert. It's a regret. He's my favorite solo artist of all time. His voice was unique. I love tenors. He could have done opera but I'm glad he was a pop star instead lol I'm Gonna be Strong was my introduction to him and is still my all time favorite ballad. If chills didn't run up your spine when he sang the ending in ONE breath... you're dead and don't know it lol :o)

Heartbreaker was Gene's last song to chart in the States. I loved it. Another great one I didn't know was Tower Tall. Something's got a Hold of my Heart is another fabulous one which he remade with Marc Almond and it was a no.1 hit in the UK 20 plus yrs after his first recording. Songs written just for him were complex and few artists attempted a cover. Can't improve on perfection. Let me know how you like your new Ultimate disc. :o)
