The power boost of bankai refers to reiatsu which is ultimately deciding factor of every contest in Bleach. The biggest example of this is Ichigo's fight against Kenpachi and Soifon vs Aizen. In essence if you outclass your opponent by several orders of magnitude you are not only invulnerable to their potential abilities, but they may also experience backlash even if they hit you. For example rank&file shinigami may have sure-hit technique, but even if he successfully uses it against captain class shinigami he may be one hurt by it unless he can overcome passive defense of captain class reiatsu that every captain emanates. In contrast powerful enough individuals can defeat weaker opponents by simply flexing their power in the general direction of the opponent which may paralyze or even harm them. See what Yamamoto did to Nanao or Aizen erasing some random man from existence by his simple presence.
It's both. Bankai is a Zanpakuto's true form and power. There is a reiatsu increase from the sword, but the ability itself also evolves from its Shikai state. In other words, Byakuya's Bankai petals would be stronger and more lethal than his Shikai petals on top of him being able to create more and use them in new ways. However, Byakuya himself is no stronger physically than he is in Shikai
sadly the comparison of aizen vs soifon, and what he states about her agility not affecting him is dubious, since it is stated that every captain and Shinigami were already under the effect of his total hypnosis, Its entirely possible that aizen was just messing with her head and playing mind games. She may not have actually hit him twice, or if she did it may have been in different spots. And its possible she never even hit him once. We simply take his words at face value because we have no idea to what degree he was being honest. For example, even with the it is hard to believe that yamamoto doesnt have a comparable reitsu gap between him and wonderweiss and got damaged by his explosion. I know his ability sealed his flames, but that doesnt mean he should be able to hurt him.
@@lijew Difference between Wonderweiss and Yamamoto is much less than difference between Soifon and Aizen reiatsu-wise. Wonderweiss had reiatsu comparable to senior captains while Soifon was pretty much least powerful in terms of reiatsu with possible exception of Hitsugaya while Aizen's reiatsu was even at that point even or superior to Yamamoto's. However you can see similar negation of ability when Ichigo broke Aizen's Black Coffin by flexing his reiatsu or even in ep1 with Ichigo breaking out of Rukia's bakudo by reiatsu alone.

I like Bankai more for four specific reasons 1. it just feels more hype when characters say it and they all have their bad ass way of saying it look at Ichigo Byakuya Unohana Ikkaku n Kenpachi 2. Kubo does a good job of keeping most of the cast Bankai a secret but slowly revealing them the longer the series goes on 3. I like how the Bankai’s are connected to the Shinigami’s character/soul making every Bankai fit the character perfectly 4. Bankai has to be the most versatile power up in anime history some Bankai’s are elemental power boost like Yamamoto Toshiro n Chojo. Some Bankai’s are domain expansions like Byakuya Tosen Unohana n Senjumaru, and some Bankai’s are straight up transformation like Rukia Ichigo n Kenpachi. Then you have absolutely broken Bankai’s like Ichebei

I strongly disagree because bankai is a kind of a joke imo. Don't get me wrong, bankai was cool, but I feel like everyone has a bankai in bleach, even if you were weak. But I feel like only the strong have a DE, if not, they are very unique. Second of all, DE just generally always have a massive impact to the story, due to it having a sure hit effect. I feel like bankai half of the time is like super saiyan, sure its cool, but I kinda got desensitised by it over time. Whereas you know the fight is gonna end immidiately after DE. I also think DE is visually cooler due to the terrain change, its more fresh than the usual transformation sequence. Ofc Im speaking generally, and I mean no hate towars bleach, but like I said, my main issue is that everyone got one, which didnt make it feel like an exalted ability. I guess Im biased, cause I prefer the narrative use of DE, and I do prefer jjk's narrative.

There is also another issue with bankai, in regards to just obtaining and going straight into combat with it. This issue was actually first displayed when renji fought byakuya, the issue is that when people first use their bankai without taking the extra time to master it, they are more likely to lose control of it. Byakuya did this just by using a simple kido spell on renjis bankai in the fight causing the bankai itself to flop and fumble. Even renji states that he lost control at that moment.

I think he has 2 forms bother with part of the animal taking lead as his "faux" bankai was the snake tail taking lead while in TYW it is the baboon taking the lead. I was thinking more along the lines of Yuyu Hakusho's Territories vs Jujitsu Kaisen's Domain Expansion. These two are a more fair comparsion. Unless Gege drops a domain expansion with the barrier following the user like a cloak or veil, then Bankai's could be compared.

honestly i think reality marbles are just cooler the ones we see have massive implications for the person using them and give insight into who they are while domain expansion just feel like a simple progression of the power they have
On the topic of Bankai making you 5-10 times stronger, we know Bankai gives you a Reiatsu boost, we've seen that plenty of times but just as a really easy example see Zaraki's Bankai where when it happens there's an explosion of pure Reiatsu around him. And Reiatsu does help you increase your physical stats. That being said, I don't think it's 1-to-1. Yes someone like Byakuya should get more Reiatsu, and thus can boost his stats more, but I don't think it's a straight 10X boost, that wouldn't even make sense seeing when he fought Ichigo, still in Shikai Ichigo doesn't note some 10X speed increase or anything, it's just the sheer amount and precision.
The Bankai itself gets stronger, not necessarily the user. People like Ichigo and Kenpachi get stronger because that is the nature of their Bankai. Ichigo's Bankai was speed. Zaraki's Bankai was strength. But others only get stronger weapons. Hence, the "combat ability" increases. It's like switching from a hand gun to a bazooka. This is why Bankai can injure and even kill the user simply by being used. Shown by Ichigo's body being crushed by his own power. Renji even said if he'd used his true Bankai before he was ready, it would have outright killed him. It's that powerful.
@@corruptangel6793 I need to say first, Ichigo's Bankai is NOT speed. It condensed his Reiatsu which let him move faster and stronger, it didn't directly increase his speed. But even then we have stuff like Kyoraku's bankai suddenly letting Ichigo feel him from farther away, or Yamamoto's bankai giving him a cloak of Reiatsu. It does have an effect on Reiatsu.
@@nahte123456 That's what I meant. The main effect his Bankai has is that it increases his speed due to the shihakusho, which is a condensed manifestation of his spirit energy. Yamamoto's Zanka No Tachi: West is the same, but his spirit energy gets the attribute of fire rather than an increase to his physical properties. "Think of my body and blade as being enveloped by the sun." There's nothing to say Ichigo didn't already feel Shunsui. That said, Shunsui's Zanpakuto is a Kido type. It deals with energy manipulation. In his Bankai's case, creating a domain that affects everyone within range of his spiritual pressure. That is what Ichigo was reacting to. If people on the edge of his spiritual pressure were reacting like that, imagine how Lille and Shunsui felt being at ground 0. And again. This is the power of his Zanpakuto. "If he won't die with Karamatsu Shinju... there's nothing more I can do." There is an increase in reiatsu, as I said, but it comes from the Zanpakuto.
It is a 5 to 10x boost in reiatsu output. What this means is that they hit harder, become more durable and move faster. While Ichigo's Zanpakutou specifically boosts his speed, and Zaraki's specifically boosts his power, Bankai in general does that in a less straight forward manner. What that means is, Ichigo and Zaraki are like Hakari and Mahoraga. Ichigo's speed automatically gets 10x faster, like switching on a button... similar to how Hakari gets regenerates automatically. It doesn't mean that a captain like Byakuya can't move as fast, it just means that while he now has the 10x boost in raw reiatsu, it's up to his level of shunpo mastery to then increase his speed. Same way Hakari just passively regenerates but Gojo, although a more skilled rct user, needs to actively regenerate. So Kumamura who is the worst Shunpo master among captains, would logically struggle to keep up with Soi Fon even in an equal stats match up, just because she's more skilled at using reiatsu to boost her speed whereas he is more skilled at using it to enhance his durability and power. Ichigo while not as skilled as Soi Fon, would outspeed her or at least keep up simply because the boost is automatic. Zaraki while not as skilled at defence like Komamura, would also simply out-tank him because the power increase is automatic. So the stat boost is not automatic, however, more reiatsu means higher stats if you're skilled enough to utilize the boost you get from releasing Bankai. But ultimately, if any character can keep up with Ichigo's speed boost, it confirms that they're just as fast regardless so you can just back-scale that way.

We see this with Ichigo and Chad and their fights where they catch up to and surpass their opponent. Ichigo with Renji and Ikkaku and Chad with Gantenbaine. Imo, I personally like both in one aspect. As the overall way they were handled I like domain expansions better because imo shikai and bankai overshadowed the entirety of the rest of bleach’s power system. If they were the focus I’d like it but because of the fact bleach has so many other aspects such as Hado and Kido which are just forgotten I feel like domain expansions are handled better because jujutsu kaisen’s other aspects of its power system are still well employed But if I was to compare a random individual bankai to a random individual domain expansion the Bankai’s are winning every time because I think individually bankais are cooler
I like ban kai more just epic to hear the characters use it and just super unique for each character. Domain expansion is solid for its structure and can be just as creative sometimes
Welp time to throw my unwanted hat into the ring. As a person who grew up on Bleach and labeled it as my true introduction into anime, I will have bias(shocking I know). Either way I always loved the pinnacle of power move in anime due to Bleach and domain expansion is a perfect example of this. However I believe Bankai takes the cake for this one. Mostly because Bankai has had a stronger story presence and effect in battle throughout the story. When you heard the word Bankai from someone you never heard it from you knew the battle was going to shift and even normally used Bankai truly show power as a shinigami. Domain Expansions however have fallen off. As the peak of jujutsu they offer more weakness and way too many counters to the fact that just seem detrimental in the manga. No one has been killed by a domain, so the word "lethal" comes off as a joke. That and characters are more afraid to open a domain just because it could backfire. The ultimate use of your technique became more of a liability of most characters are ended doing nothing or just straight never showed. All the times we heard Domain Expansion 4 of them weren't even shown and we never even got to see the power of Jogo's domain despite getting the beautiful visuals. Dont get me wrong domain expansion are amazing but they dont hold the same weight as Bankai. Its simply two different authors and besides Domains Expansions seem to take more inspiration from another manga than Bankai.
Very well said yes I agree I feel how much counters and lack of domain expansions seen lessen its impact especially when there is only few top tier domains. The top tier domain expansion takes up all the spotlight

Plus domains are used way better than bankai, bankai half the time is usually just a powerboost of some kind or an extra technique/techniques and that won't even matter because depending on the person you fighting your bankai can come out meaningless

6:40 "Spawning your domain around yourself" instead of around an area is Domain Amplification(DA), not Falling Blossom Emotion(FBE). FBE, like stated in the panel you showcase, as well as explained by Kusakabe during the Gojo vs Sukuna fight, also involves the user coating themselves, but with their own cursed energy rather than with their own domain. They then use this CE coating to counter or repel sure-hit effects. This doesn't always cancel the sure-hit effect though, usually only dampening the effect of the hits. DA also counters sure-hits, but unlike FBE, it absolutely neutralizes not just domain sure-hits, but cursed techniques in general. Another key difference is DA prevents the user from using most Cursed Techniques (besides Domain Expansions), whereas the user of Falling Blossom Emotion can simultaneously activate their CT.
Bleach is all about reiatsu, activating a bankai increase one's reiatsu aswell and with that increase of reiatsu we reach a conclusion that physical stats are increased as well. Take hitsugaya, as he fights harribel, when she comes rushing at him, he panics instantly going bankai, this allows him to block her attack where before he couldnt. In cases where like shinji or kyoraku, you must remember that there is no guarantee that the hax will work. The opponent could simply negate the laws or the rules surrounding your bankais ability and in that case you will be stuck having to rely on the flat stat boost

Shunsui has 4 acts, not 3. When bankai refers to combat ability of the zanpakuto, it's unsure whether that refers to the zanpakutos techniques or the users reiryoku/reiatsu which determines, speed, durability, physical strength and so on. It wouldn't make sense for the statement to refer strictly to abilities as how is shinjis bankai a 5-10x of his shikai when the combat abilities are entirely different. Must refer to reiatsu increase which inturn increases other stats. Whenever they go bankai we always see an increase in spirit energy and abilities, their potency and new abilities so it makes sense it's all of them, toshiro has to use bankai to block halibel and damage her, ikkaku against edrad to damage, block and keep up with him, kenpachi to damage gerard who also gets faster and stronger, byakuya to damage gerard, toshiro to damage gerard, retsu to keep up with kenpachi after his amps and the list goes on, i think your confusing is bankai that utilise hax over physical traits but that doesn't mean they didn't get said amp of reiryoku thus other physical abilities. After all, they have to get stronger to wield bankai (increase their reiryoku capacity to handle to increase) and body durability, we know this from kenpachis bankais energy destroying his own body after just using it aswell as toshiros body being too imature for its power. All bankais cause strain on the user and expend spirit energy, soi fon can only fire 1-2 nukes every 3 days in AA due to its taxing power and consumption of reiryoku. So your point is ultimately wrong and makes little sense. After all, i can debunk it with one argument, reiryoku/reiatsu negation, explained by kenpachi and aizen, such that ones energy can negate anothers if stronger as stated by kenpachi, such that ones energy can forcibly negate ones attack as stated by aizen. Proving even soi fons two hit kill hax is determined by energy despite being a hax ability. If bankai did not increase power (reiryoku thus reiatsu and physical abilities) then the opponents they fight who are stronger would simply negate their powers as a whole since hax are based on spirit energy. Which means if your argument is correct then say shinji, if his shikai was negated then his bankai would also be negated since both rely on spirit energy as do all attacks in bleach that use hax or reiryoku/reiatsu attacks.

Domain is wack if your opponents durabillity exceed your AP, while Bankai boost you Reiryoku which in turn boost all your stats (AP, Speed, Durabillity) and is generally far more powerfull.
If your domain is a hax though it could be tough. Like mahito's domain(although it will get him oneshot by any bleach character as all their souls are stronger than his and they can maintain their souls shape). But it could technically win him fights against people stronger than he is.
for the bankai stat boost point, there are two cases: 1- if your bankai is mainly a stat bankai, as in it specifically amplifies your stats, then its a 10x stat boost 2- if your bankai is ability focused then it amplifies your spiritual pressure by 5x and enhances your ability thats how i believe it works
I feel like Domain Expansions are so confusing Gegi tried doing too much with them. I like what he was going for but I prefer Bankai for its unique and simple presentation and activation.
I think Gege was successful with domain expansions they are just so unique and the names are so cold like malevolent shrine or deadly sentencing. All the powers in jjk are very creative. But bankais are so iconic and just as cold.

@@ozdaartist3106a domain at the end of the day is a barrier technique. Everything in that barrier is then targeted by a technique hence the guaranteed hit effect. Simple domain simply puts up a barrier around the user forming sort of a barrier within a barrier. So the user of simple domain is inside the new barrier which defends him/her from the sure hit of the opponents domain(that is the sure hit technique hits the barrier of simple domain instead of the user since the user is inside the simple domain barrier). This doesn't mean it's a complete defense, it's more so a way to buy time. The simple domain is still targeted by the sure hit of the domain so it can only last so long before it breaks. Notable examples would be when kenjaku instantly ripped through Yuki's simple domain simply by how strong his domain's guaranteed hit was, or it being stated that gojo's simple domain will not last long against malevolent shrine.

Me personally, i prefer the more strategic applications of the domain expansion abilities with characters like hakari, higuruma, and megumi, utilizing their domain as the main source of power for their toolkit, with bankai i still enjoy it, but it does feel like a bit more of an instant win button for characters. I mean the amount of times a character in bleach uses their bankai and instantly starts winning the fight is crazy. whereas a domain expansion in jjk has more drawbacks and feels like more of a gamble to use most of the time (depends on the character however). I like both for their power system, but i like the more intricate system of domains and the restrictions placed on them. Again, not hating on bankai, super cool system, i just prefer domains a little more.
What makes Bankai or Bleach in general superior to the power system in JJK is the concept of "power difference". In JJK, if someone activates domain expansion, it wouldn't matter how much stronger or weaker they are than their opponents, their attacks will always hit, tho stronger individuals seem durable enough to tank the hits in some cases. Granted they do have differentials as is the case with Domain tug of war, but the power system is pretty much a contest of who has the crazier abilities. In Bleach, reiatsu difference not only makes one resistant or even invulnerable to attacks, but the attacker can even receive backlash from his own power if the reiatsu difference is overwhelmingly huge. Unfortunately, this system is also what makes Bleach fights predictable, to some degree, cuz a fight is literally predetermined by power levels, not necessarily by abilities.
So what makes Bleach superior is that JJK has fights determined by good or bad match ups of unique abilities and skillsets rather than predetermined by power levels...?
@@muntu1221 I'm saying Bleach fights make it so that they're adding more rules and therefore varying scenarios by introducing this system. For example Soifon can 2 hit kill anyone with her technique but it doesn't work on someone like Aizen who has far greater reaitsu than her. Orihime can heal any wounds even restore corpses blown halfway but she struggles to even close Ichigo's wounds at some point. And keep in mind, reiatsu isn't stable either, it comes from one's soul so therefore it fluctuates depending on one's emotions so the rules to the fight might even change again, as is the case with Ichigo when he fought Kenpachi, at first he cut his own hand trying to cut Kenny but after he gained resolve, he was finally able to cut him. And it's also important to note that not all abilities follow the "reiatsu rule" necessarily. And what about match ups and skillsets? Bleach has that too lol, I recommend you watch the series too, not just the ones it inspired.

Now you're describing what is essentially the same thing that occurs in JJK. Cursed energy can be more or less refined, and sorcerers and cursed spirits are directly affected by mindset. It's psychic power and it's inattentive linked to emotions and state of mind. I'm not talking about what Bleach does and doesn't have. I'm talking about what you said makes one better than the other. You specifically said Bleach has the better system because it comes down to big numbers and JJK doesn't generally do that. And I find that weird because the main criticism of shonen manga is that most franchises reduce fights to ever escalating levels of power. JJK is praised specifically for breaking that mold with all fights outside of a few inconsequential ones coming down to exploiting the power system's rules to get ideal outcomes. For example, any fight Gojo wins by being stronger always comes down to his enemies being uncreative and trying to match him in strength. He even says a guy's technique that is just cloning himself would've been way more powerful if he wasn't an idiot. I'm not saying Bleach doesn't have fights that come down to creativity, but everyone seems to conclude that Bleach's strength comes down to characters having busted power levels and busted abilities that complement their high power levels.
The best way I could describe it: Domain expansions are more consistent with killing people, while bankai’s are more effective at killing. In other words, it’s like the difference between a saw game death trap and a tank. Both are designed for the purpose of killing, one for those specifically trapped in it and the other for indiscriminate killing.
I took 5X - 10X as spiritual energy. Since ichigo's body couldn't handle the amount of spiritual energy his body was flooding with after going in bankai. It could be because ichigo is special. But neither was specified
Something that should be kept in mind that we are talking about these different "ultimate moves" here and not the way they are applied exactly. For example, Bankai is often used defeat opponents by having a higher power level than them, but this doesn't need to be the case. If Tite Kubo was a more strategic writer, more fights would be more like Byakuya's fights imo. Domain Expansions are often used as a way to access a killer move rather than a power up, but in my eyes, they could've been used to forcibly gain homefield advantages even if pushed to a corner, which is important in JJK, but the author prefers not to do this. Try to think of these different powers and abilities outside of the context of their respective verses and think of what YOU could or would do with them. Imagine if you were given the opportunity to write on behalf of the OG writers. Now, think about which one you like better.
Well versitility goes to bankai ,hax bankai , usage in anime currently bankai , concepts , bankai , obtain ability probably domain expansion because people tend to forget getting a bankai and mastery over it is different that’s multiple in the soul society spend centuries perfecting it
To answer the question they are about the same,but i like the idea of your power manifesting in a form of a sword. The power is different for all zanpakutos but the idea that your powers are determined by your relationship with the manifestation of your fighting spirit and its cool af.
Big weakness to domains is that they can be simply broken by attacking them from the outside or inside especially if ya fighting like a minion user and the rather pathetic range they have. Longer range characters can like quite simply never be in ya range. Combine this with people who can tp ect being able to avoid it as soon as you start to manifest. Yet the biggest weakness to domains is a weakness to the verses power system. If you use verse equalization anyone with positive energy related powers will legit nullify and destroy a domain and simply not be effected by it since they are filled with what the show calls reverse cursed energy ie positive energy. We know from how this energy is able to casually blow up a special grade curse and how round deer destroys cursed techniques from being near them that any decent positive energy user will legit be nigh invincible to jjk with verse equalization.
That is not how positive energy works. You can't cancel techniques just by having it. Otherwise, Shoko would be busted. It kills cursed spirits because they're made of negative energy. Cursed energy can be minused out, but techniques can't. Round Deer nullified the cursed energy of the liquid metal in Sukuna's body to heal the poisonous effect of it. But Agito couldn't nullify Limitless even when Maximum Blue was inside of its body. Yuta also can't nullify Ishigori's Granite Blast or Uro's Thin Ice Breaker. And if positive energy was all it took to nullify techniques and cursed energy, Hakari would never take damage. Even worse with domains. Shoko, Sukuna, Gojo, and Yuta would never be caught in them, especially Gojo. He's always filled with positive energy coursing through his body. Heck, the Sword of Extermination just flat out doesn't work on Sukuna just because he's not a cursed spirit. It neither hurts nor canceled his cursed energy reinforcement. Is it just me who thinks domain expansion seems too complicated to fully understand? Cause i see multiples bankai fight in bleach , and i can easily categorised them in power , kido and hax type. And i absolutely love on how bankai need to be earned, need 2-ways communication and understanding with zanpakto spirit, not just simply know their names. Even Renji got cheated by his own zanpakto spirit in almost entire series until last arc, by saying the wrong name
A domain simply forms a barrier with you and the opponent and that barrier is imbued with a technique. The technique targets everything in the barrier except the user. This is why domains have sure hit attacks. Example mahito traps you in a barrier, the barrier is imbued with his technique and it targets everything in the barrier and he can't even distinguish. So everything in the barrier is having their soul touched, this is why he didn't want yuji in his domain because once he imbues the technique to the domain it will auto target yuji with everyone else in it even if he wants to exclude yuji.
@@wondays654 The technique can target everyone including the user, as well. It just depends on who the user selects as the target. Those tiny differences are what devices if domains clash or not. Megumi doesn't target anyone, so he can use their barrier as his own instead of getting into a tug of war to decide whose rules dominate.
I think Domain Expansion's are way more hype than Bankai, because bankai sometimes just feel like any other power, but if someone says ryuiki tenkai, you jist know something crazy is about to go down, no matter what.
7:49 Byakuya didn't get the upper hand when ichigo was tired. Byakuya simply activated another stage/mode of his bankai called "senkei" which means slaughterspace. It has the ability to form a domain arround it's opponent to restrict movements and it gradually debuffs the stats of the opponent making them weaker over time. So being simply faster or stronger against a bankai doesn't necessarily means that you can negate it unless you are talking about specific individual bankai which are stat boosts.
The problem is doman clashing which is a tug of war with power, i think top tier bankai release of power and output is going to bully domain expansion. There is more stronger bankai users than donain expansion users
True, however I think there is a case for 3 characters being able to survive fights. Gojo is one simply because of infinite void, it targets the brain by overloading it with info, so your physical capabilities mean nothing. Mahito is another because within his domain he can change your soul, even if it’s a strong soul it’s still subject to his idle transfiguration. Higuruma is another but this is also assuming we equate reihatsu to cursed energy, because he can definitely get deadly sentencing on most bleach characters with a bankai, which would rob them of their reihatsu. Obviously bleach characters can dominate the Jjk verse with little effort but there are still challenges.
I like bleach because its power system is clear. Reiatsu is overall power level then you have unique zampaktou abilities supplemented by kido. Each is easily identifiable visually and theoretically. I'm a jjk casual but ive read enough jjk that i should understand the methods of attack, what a domain expansion is, why characters with no physical energy pose any threat to those With spiritual energy. I dont fully grasp it
Everyone has Cursed Energy because Cursed Energy is made from negative emotions. Thus, all Domain Expansions would work on all humans. Pit them against bleach characters and they will work on them too because they experience and have negative emotions as well. So yes, Gojo's Domain Expansion would work on individuals from Bleach.

Don't count it out, as one other thing to consider is Domains were inspired by Reality Marbles from the Fate series. Not to mention Domains and Bankais do have a few similarities. Both provide the user a power boost, both typically require some form of command to use (i.e. vocally saying Domain Expansion while performing the hand sign and saying Bankai), and both are meant to be a reflection of the user and an evolution of their ability.
I go for Domain expansion solely for the sure-hit factor and that they are innate without relying on things. Having your trump card get stolen, lost or absorbed and used against you ain't something to worry about (unless your enemy figures a way to "acquire" you)
I don't really like Domains because for the exception of just a couple users, they never really do anything new, they just ensure your basic skill hits the target, maybe multiple times in some cases. Bankai however is a deep evolution of powers of a shinigami, it does something entirely different in 90% of cases and often doesn't just insta-win a fight if it's "better than your enemie's". More polished domain wins, but bankai is just a power up that you still need to apply in combat. New bankai users could be not skilled enough to use a busted bankai, or they could be dogshit, but busted bankai carries them, either way there's always a battle there, but for domains, unless it's gojo, sukuna or kenjaku being a target, it just is an insta-win. Domains such as hakari's are kind of absurd tho.
Yeah, Its a Insta-win, but its just a weapon in your arsenal since the enemy could use a simple domain or domain amplification as a counter to that tecnic and make you burn your own tecnic and garantice a sure hit after donmain. Tactic bullshit.
@@rosswelt9963 My problem with it isn't the tactics but the lack of nuance to a 1v1. If one opponent has a weaker domain, it becomes absolutely worthless. There's no such issue with bankais, as if one is weaker they still got a fighting chance if they use it well. Like i'm sure post TYBW or even Captain Rukia could easily rival Toshiro even if his bankai has larger scale of attacks and is overall considered more powerful. The nuances of their abilities define the battle and not just "My number is bigger so i win".
Most domains aren't insta wins, in fact in jjk an insta win domain is one of the highest feats in the verse. Most sorcerers have domains with rules that give them some sort of advantage. (Higurama, hakari, possibly uro and ryu)
@@wondays654 I am aware, i specified the situation in which one user has a better domain. This necessarily leads to his enemy's domain being a piece of useless garbage, unless they can somehow bait it out and survive. But otherwise domains follow a strict greater/lesser logic and it can't be altered, whilst bankai has no such restrictions. In fact bankais have changed multiple times in the series which just can't happen to a domain, at least not so far.
In terms of usage and potential i say domain because of its very unique abilities But in terms of power and versatility it's Bankai it's already a great power boost in all your stats boosts and develops your abilities to its max and reiatsu as a concept is just way too broken And I don't disagree with your argument on the 10x stat boost it should still boost all stats above their base form not by a huge amount but still a noticable difference as it's not just abilities getting amplified but their overall reiatsu and power which still affects the rest of their stats like speed and strength of course it would obviously give less boost for non specialized stats so not all stats will gain a huge boost but still should end with a noticable difference from their base form
Some bankai like urahara, kyouraku, Shinji, are just perfect domain like sukuna cuz they don't need barrier to trap the enemy. The only one that need to trap people is blind Guy that bankai that fought kenpachi in soul society.
Yeah no bankai outclass domain expansion in every category and also for 1) kenpachi, ichigo, hitsugaya, renji, Byakuya, Yamamoto, ichibe, ikkaku, kensei, are all prime examples in theyre bankais they got increase in speed and strength did you not see them fight the arrancars… we’re in shikai they could barely keep up then in Bankai completely blitz the arrancars..

Domain expansion looks more interesting for me. In Bleach every shinigami has bankai and it's role went from the indication of power to yet another power up, became a normal, while domain expansion is not something anybody can attain - Nanami Kento is very capable sorcerer, but still did't use domain even once because his technique is not easily understood and expanded into a domain, which also needs to be built using barriers that are so complex that even Meumi, one of the main characters, figured how to expand his technique, but couldn't build a barrier for it. Domain Expansion is a trump card that has severe limitation, like technique's burnout and too difficult to master for anybody to use it and most of the fights do not even involve some kind of a clash of domains because of a difficulty of using it.

Imagine how much worse it would be if Bankai had been translated as "second release". It's disappointing that everyone knows it as Domain Expansion because RYOIKI TENKAI sounds infinitely cooler.
Too slow too weak. If 0.2 sec is some of the fastest activation speeds they are shafted. Bleach characters can use bankai kill them and go on vacation all in that time frame.
@@wondays654 That's not the activation speed. That's how long Gojo's domain lasted on the humans in Shibuya. What he did was combined the barrier construction and technique activation, which means the instant he activated it, everyone was hit already. The barrier didn't have to close for the effect to activate. And, obviously, Sukuna is the same. The instant his domain was manifested, Shibuya turned to dust. And you could argue Sukuna's is too weak based on whatever (it's been confirmed his new slash is different than the other two he normally uses, meaning it's confirmed it negates durability), but Gojo's is not too weak. Their brains are scrambled just by being near him. And they can dodge all they want, he can instantly increase the range and they wouldn't know what it even was.
I really dislike the guaranteed hit that domain expansion brings. It handcuffs the flow of the fight in a manner that forces you to deal with it in some way. If that trait was not present I would say domain expansion would be really close to Bankai
for me I much perfer Domains and it's not even close. One of the main reasons is that Bleach is just a power-up fest. It mainly boils down to who uses their strongest ability/attack last = winner. Bankai's are the purest example of this. Character uses their Bankai and starts to poop on their opponent. I find myself saying the same thing about Bankai's as i do about super saiyan blue...why not just cut out the middle man and start the fight with them if their so powerful. There is nearly no reason not to for most of the cast. Yes they are an indicator of a shift in the fight but only in the most superficial way possible. It's essentially; my number got bigger. There is not change in strategy, their is no appifiny the character comes to that alows them to see a flaw in the opponents ability. the formula dragged on me after awile The whole show Is just Step 1.) Bankai activated, now let me tell you how it works and then you sit there mouth agape, dumbfounded as i a demolish you with my (admittedly cool) ability. Step 2.)The opposition does so little to resist the ass whooping that they might as well be taking a nap. Step 3.)Then after they have been folded over like laundry; 10 gallons of blood on the floor, nearly comatose, they respond with; "Actually this isn't even my final form" Then repeat step 1 I like more stretegic fights. I prefer domains cause they feel like tools in the users belt. I like that there are universal ways to counter domains and that there are drawbacks to using them. It's like burning meter in a fighting game. Yeah you could get off a big damage super but if you wiff your screwed. Using it also locks you out of other options that might use your meter. I think Bleach has cool *ideas* for powers but the execution is what i have a problem with.

The abilities that most bankai give their users offer less utility and more ways to deal big damage. They don't have explotable flaws or limitations that could be used against them, or for them to work around. When counters fight each other it's just a flat loss for the person being countered. let me compare 2 different anime. Bleach: Byakuya vs Zommari is a rare example of abilities having a tangible difference, and the mechanics of a power having an effect on how the fight plays out instead of being a different flavor of damage. Too bad it doesn't meen anything cause it's not explored cause the fight ends in the blink of an eye. Problem is that Zommari is just flat out countered by Byakuya with no way in hell to fight back. No stratigey he can use, no different way of using his power that could give him a leg up. He just dies. Onie Piece: Luffy vs Enel Luffy is Made of rubber and is immune to electricity. Enel is a Lightning Logia. So not only is Luffy able to touch him, he can't be hurt by his lighting attacks. If this was Bleach Enel would just unlock a new form that completly bypasses the immunity, or would just flat out lose. Instead Enel uses the heat from his electricity to heat, melt and mold metal to use against Luffy. Giving him a chance to win even though he eventually loses.

Characters like Renji and Hitsugaya are meme'd because their Bankai doesn't get the job done and they end up losing fights after the activation of their Bankai. Let me go through the fights in the initial part of the series that I can recall that see the release of a Bankai. The very first fight in the series that uses a Bankai is Mayuri v Ishida Uryu. Your problem with Bankai's is that the moment they are released it basically guarantees victory for the person using it. Uryu activates Letzt Stil and pressures Mayuri into releasing Bankai because his AP and speed are simply too much for Mayuri to handle as he is not a fighter. Mayuri uses his Bankai that doesn't attempt to contest Uryu in strength or speed, it uses poison to bridge the difference in physical capabilities. Mayuri ends up losing the fight still and is forced to retreat but the poison of his Bankai still infects Uryu and puts him in an endangered situation (if it wasn't for Nemu's antidote). The second showing of a Bankai is in Renji v Byakuya. Renji's infant Bankai gets toyed with by a Shikai Byakuya, he ends up losing the fight before Byakuya even responds with his own release. Byakuya only releases his to show the difference in power and experience between the two. So, that's two losses for Bankai. It's not going how you described. The next use of a Bankai is in Tosen v Kenpachi. Tosen releases his Bankai and plays with his food instead of going for the kill, he loses that fight. That's another loss for Bankai. The following one is by Komamura against Kenpachi, the conclusion of this fight is never shown, only that Komamura fled the moment he sensed Yamamoto in battle. Ichigo v Byakuya is the next one and finally we have a Bankai that actually changes the tide of a fight, Ichigo's speed in Bankai counters Byakuya's petals and forces him to use his own Bankai and its various techniques. The battle is decided by a clash of swords and Byakuya concedes defeat. This is the first win for a Bankai and it is not even how you described. After that, we see the Bankai used in Ichigo v Yammy where Ichigo schools his opponent until his Hollow begins to mess with him mentally. This wasn't even a battle where Ichigo was fighting in base and then used his Bankai and gained the upper hand, he was in Bankai from the beginning. The following usage of Bankai is with Ikkaku against Edorad and this actually goes how you described, Ikkaku is losing in Shikai against a Ressurecion Arrancar and responds with the Shinigami equivalent and ends up winning. There's the fights with Histugaya and the vice-captains against the Fraccions but we won't count them as they had Gentei Kaijo seals on them that restricted their power by 80% and upon release of the seals, their previously failing Bankai's became effective. After this comes Ichigo v Grimmjow, where Ichigo's Bankai gets utterly demolished by an unreleased Espada, this was an embarrassing loss. I could go on but you get the point. Just from those encounters, that is 4 losses after the release of Bankai, 3 wins after the release and 1 inconclusive as we didn't see the fight.

Jjk verse gets soloed by anyone from the arrancar arc. And I'm not even trying to be funny because jjk is my favorite series right now. They just get washed. Some of the most terrifying characters like mahito's abilities won't even work on fodder soul reapers.(they are souls and need to maintain their shape to exist, so mahito won't be able to transfigure them). Speed diff is also too high. Curse Naoya is one of the fastest characters in jjk and he is mach3 which is slower than assault rifle fire. Too weak, too slow.
This discussion isnt that interesting. Domin Expanion takes more inspiration f4om the Psychics from Yuyu Hakusho. They basically function the same. DE has more depth though.

The power boost of bankai refers to reiatsu which is ultimately deciding factor of every contest in Bleach.
The biggest example of this is Ichigo's fight against Kenpachi and Soifon vs Aizen. In essence if you outclass your opponent by several orders of magnitude you are not only invulnerable to their potential abilities, but they may also experience backlash even if they hit you.
For example rank&file shinigami may have sure-hit technique, but even if he successfully uses it against captain class shinigami he may be one hurt by it unless he can overcome passive defense of captain class reiatsu that every captain emanates.
In contrast powerful enough individuals can defeat weaker opponents by simply flexing their power in the general direction of the opponent which may paralyze or even harm them. See what Yamamoto did to Nanao or Aizen erasing some random man from existence by his simple presence.
It's both. Bankai is a Zanpakuto's true form and power. There is a reiatsu increase from the sword, but the ability itself also evolves from its Shikai state.
In other words, Byakuya's Bankai petals would be stronger and more lethal than his Shikai petals on top of him being able to create more and use them in new ways. However, Byakuya himself is no stronger physically than he is in Shikai
sadly the comparison of aizen vs soifon, and what he states about her agility not affecting him is dubious, since it is stated that every captain and Shinigami were already under the effect of his total hypnosis, Its entirely possible that aizen was just messing with her head and playing mind games. She may not have actually hit him twice, or if she did it may have been in different spots. And its possible she never even hit him once. We simply take his words at face value because we have no idea to what degree he was being honest. For example, even with the it is hard to believe that yamamoto doesnt have a comparable reitsu gap between him and wonderweiss and got damaged by his explosion. I know his ability sealed his flames, but that doesnt mean he should be able to hurt him.
@@lijew Difference between Wonderweiss and Yamamoto is much less than difference between Soifon and Aizen reiatsu-wise.
Wonderweiss had reiatsu comparable to senior captains while Soifon was pretty much least powerful in terms of reiatsu with possible exception of Hitsugaya while Aizen's reiatsu was even at that point even or superior to Yamamoto's.
However you can see similar negation of ability when Ichigo broke Aizen's Black Coffin by flexing his reiatsu or even in ep1 with Ichigo breaking out of Rukia's bakudo by reiatsu alone.

1. it just feels more hype when characters say it and they all have their bad ass way of saying it look at Ichigo Byakuya Unohana Ikkaku n Kenpachi
2. Kubo does a good job of keeping most of the cast Bankai a secret but slowly revealing them the longer the series goes on
3. I like how the Bankai’s are connected to the Shinigami’s character/soul making every Bankai fit the character perfectly
4. Bankai has to be the most versatile power up in anime history some Bankai’s are elemental power boost like Yamamoto Toshiro n Chojo. Some Bankai’s are domain expansions like Byakuya Tosen Unohana n Senjumaru, and some Bankai’s are straight up transformation like Rukia Ichigo n Kenpachi. Then you have absolutely broken Bankai’s like Ichebei

I strongly disagree because bankai is a kind of a joke imo. Don't get me wrong, bankai was cool, but I feel like everyone has a bankai in bleach, even if you were weak. But I feel like only the strong have a DE, if not, they are very unique. Second of all, DE just generally always have a massive impact to the story, due to it having a sure hit effect. I feel like bankai half of the time is like super saiyan, sure its cool, but I kinda got desensitised by it over time. Whereas you know the fight is gonna end immidiately after DE. I also think DE is visually cooler due to the terrain change, its more fresh than the usual transformation sequence.
Ofc Im speaking generally, and I mean no hate towars bleach, but like I said, my main issue is that everyone got one, which didnt make it feel like an exalted ability. I guess Im biased, cause I prefer the narrative use of DE, and I do prefer jjk's narrative.

There is also another issue with bankai, in regards to just obtaining and going straight into combat with it.
This issue was actually first displayed when renji fought byakuya, the issue is that when people first use their bankai without taking the extra time to master it, they are more likely to lose control of it.
Byakuya did this just by using a simple kido spell on renjis bankai in the fight causing the bankai itself to flop and fumble. Even renji states that he lost control at that moment.
And not to forget that your Bankai might not be your true Bankai like with Renji again.
Another thing is that if your body is not used to Bankai, its power can actively start crushing your body like Ichigo vs Byakuya
@@javelinmaster2 I don't think that's true as his spirit is a baboon with a snake tail. I think he has 2 forms bother with part of the animal taking lead as his "faux" bankai was the snake tail taking lead while in TYW it is the baboon taking the lead.

Unless Gege drops a domain expansion with the barrier following the user like a cloak or veil, then Bankai's could be compared.

honestly i think reality marbles are just cooler the ones we see have massive implications for the person using them and give insight into who they are while domain expansion just feel like a simple progression of the power they have
On the topic of Bankai making you 5-10 times stronger, we know Bankai gives you a Reiatsu boost, we've seen that plenty of times but just as a really easy example see Zaraki's Bankai where when it happens there's an explosion of pure Reiatsu around him. And Reiatsu does help you increase your physical stats.
That being said, I don't think it's 1-to-1. Yes someone like Byakuya should get more Reiatsu, and thus can boost his stats more, but I don't think it's a straight 10X boost, that wouldn't even make sense seeing when he fought Ichigo, still in Shikai Ichigo doesn't note some 10X speed increase or anything, it's just the sheer amount and precision.
The Bankai itself gets stronger, not necessarily the user. People like Ichigo and Kenpachi get stronger because that is the nature of their Bankai. Ichigo's Bankai was speed. Zaraki's Bankai was strength. But others only get stronger weapons. Hence, the "combat ability" increases.
It's like switching from a hand gun to a bazooka. This is why Bankai can injure and even kill the user simply by being used. Shown by Ichigo's body being crushed by his own power. Renji even said if he'd used his true Bankai before he was ready, it would have outright killed him. It's that powerful.
@@corruptangel6793 I need to say first, Ichigo's Bankai is NOT speed. It condensed his Reiatsu which let him move faster and stronger, it didn't directly increase his speed.
But even then we have stuff like Kyoraku's bankai suddenly letting Ichigo feel him from farther away, or Yamamoto's bankai giving him a cloak of Reiatsu. It does have an effect on Reiatsu.

There's nothing to say Ichigo didn't already feel Shunsui. That said, Shunsui's Zanpakuto is a Kido type. It deals with energy manipulation. In his Bankai's case, creating a domain that affects everyone within range of his spiritual pressure. That is what Ichigo was reacting to. If people on the edge of his spiritual pressure were reacting like that, imagine how Lille and Shunsui felt being at ground 0. And again. This is the power of his Zanpakuto.

There is an increase in reiatsu, as I said, but it comes from the Zanpakuto.
It is a 5 to 10x boost in reiatsu output.
What this means is that they hit harder, become more durable and move faster.
While Ichigo's Zanpakutou specifically boosts his speed, and Zaraki's specifically boosts his power, Bankai in general does that in a less straight forward manner.
What that means is, Ichigo and Zaraki are like Hakari and Mahoraga.
Ichigo's speed automatically gets 10x faster, like switching on a button... similar to how Hakari gets regenerates automatically.
It doesn't mean that a captain like Byakuya can't move as fast, it just means that while he now has the 10x boost in raw reiatsu, it's up to his level of shunpo mastery to then increase his speed.
Same way Hakari just passively regenerates but Gojo, although a more skilled rct user, needs to actively regenerate.
So Kumamura who is the worst Shunpo master among captains, would logically struggle to keep up with Soi Fon even in an equal stats match up, just because she's more skilled at using reiatsu to boost her speed whereas he is more skilled at using it to enhance his durability and power.
Ichigo while not as skilled as Soi Fon, would outspeed her or at least keep up simply because the boost is automatic.
Zaraki while not as skilled at defence like Komamura, would also simply out-tank him because the power increase is automatic.
So the stat boost is not automatic, however, more reiatsu means higher stats if you're skilled enough to utilize the boost you get from releasing Bankai.
But ultimately, if any character can keep up with Ichigo's speed boost, it confirms that they're just as fast regardless so you can just back-scale that way.

We see this with Ichigo and Chad and their fights where they catch up to and surpass their opponent. Ichigo with Renji and Ikkaku and Chad with Gantenbaine. Imo, I personally like both in one aspect. As the overall way they were handled I like domain expansions better because imo shikai and bankai overshadowed the entirety of the rest of bleach’s power system. If they were the focus I’d like it but because of the fact bleach has so many other aspects such as Hado and Kido which are just forgotten I feel like domain expansions are handled better because jujutsu kaisen’s other aspects of its power system are still well employed
But if I was to compare a random individual bankai to a random individual domain expansion the Bankai’s are winning every time because I think individually bankais are cooler
I like ban kai more just epic to hear the characters use it and just super unique for each character. Domain expansion is solid for its structure and can be just as creative sometimes
Welp time to throw my unwanted hat into the ring. As a person who grew up on Bleach and labeled it as my true introduction into anime, I will have bias(shocking I know). Either way I always loved the pinnacle of power move in anime due to Bleach and domain expansion is a perfect example of this.
However I believe Bankai takes the cake for this one. Mostly because Bankai has had a stronger story presence and effect in battle throughout the story. When you heard the word Bankai from someone you never heard it from you knew the battle was going to shift and even normally used Bankai truly show power as a shinigami.
Domain Expansions however have fallen off. As the peak of jujutsu they offer more weakness and way too many counters to the fact that just seem detrimental in the manga. No one has been killed by a domain, so the word "lethal" comes off as a joke. That and characters are more afraid to open a domain just because it could backfire. The ultimate use of your technique became more of a liability of most characters are ended doing nothing or just straight never showed. All the times we heard Domain Expansion 4 of them weren't even shown and we never even got to see the power of Jogo's domain despite getting the beautiful visuals.
Dont get me wrong domain expansion are amazing but they dont hold the same weight as Bankai. Its simply two different authors and besides Domains Expansions seem to take more inspiration from another manga than Bankai.
Very well said yes I agree I feel how much counters and lack of domain expansions seen lessen its impact especially when there is only few top tier domains. The top tier domain expansion takes up all the spotlight

Plus domains are used way better than bankai, bankai half the time is usually just a powerboost of some kind or an extra technique/techniques and that won't even matter because depending on the person you fighting your bankai can come out meaningless

FBE, like stated in the panel you showcase, as well as explained by Kusakabe during the Gojo vs Sukuna fight, also involves the user coating themselves, but with their own cursed energy rather than with their own domain. They then use this CE coating to counter or repel sure-hit effects. This doesn't always cancel the sure-hit effect though, usually only dampening the effect of the hits. DA also counters sure-hits, but unlike FBE, it absolutely neutralizes not just domain sure-hits, but cursed techniques in general. Another key difference is DA prevents the user from using most Cursed Techniques (besides Domain Expansions), whereas the user of Falling Blossom Emotion can simultaneously activate their CT.

Bleach is all about reiatsu, activating a bankai increase one's reiatsu aswell and with that increase of reiatsu we reach a conclusion that physical stats are increased as well.
Take hitsugaya, as he fights harribel, when she comes rushing at him, he panics instantly going bankai, this allows him to block her attack where before he couldnt.
In cases where like shinji or kyoraku, you must remember that there is no guarantee that the hax will work. The opponent could simply negate the laws or the rules surrounding your bankais ability and in that case you will be stuck having to rely on the flat stat boost

When bankai refers to combat ability of the zanpakuto, it's unsure whether that refers to the zanpakutos techniques or the users reiryoku/reiatsu which determines, speed, durability, physical strength and so on. It wouldn't make sense for the statement to refer strictly to abilities as how is shinjis bankai a 5-10x of his shikai when the combat abilities are entirely different. Must refer to reiatsu increase which inturn increases other stats.
Whenever they go bankai we always see an increase in spirit energy and abilities, their potency and new abilities so it makes sense it's all of them, toshiro has to use bankai to block halibel and damage her, ikkaku against edrad to damage, block and keep up with him, kenpachi to damage gerard who also gets faster and stronger, byakuya to damage gerard, toshiro to damage gerard, retsu to keep up with kenpachi after his amps and the list goes on, i think your confusing is bankai that utilise hax over physical traits but that doesn't mean they didn't get said amp of reiryoku thus other physical abilities. After all, they have to get stronger to wield bankai (increase their reiryoku capacity to handle to increase) and body durability, we know this from kenpachis bankais energy destroying his own body after just using it aswell as toshiros body being too imature for its power. All bankais cause strain on the user and expend spirit energy, soi fon can only fire 1-2 nukes every 3 days in AA due to its taxing power and consumption of reiryoku.
So your point is ultimately wrong and makes little sense. After all, i can debunk it with one argument, reiryoku/reiatsu negation, explained by kenpachi and aizen, such that ones energy can negate anothers if stronger as stated by kenpachi, such that ones energy can forcibly negate ones attack as stated by aizen. Proving even soi fons two hit kill hax is determined by energy despite being a hax ability. If bankai did not increase power (reiryoku thus reiatsu and physical abilities) then the opponents they fight who are stronger would simply negate their powers as a whole since hax are based on spirit energy. Which means if your argument is correct then say shinji, if his shikai was negated then his bankai would also be negated since both rely on spirit energy as do all attacks in bleach that use hax or reiryoku/reiatsu attacks.

Domain is wack if your opponents durabillity exceed your AP, while Bankai boost you Reiryoku which in turn boost all your stats (AP, Speed, Durabillity) and is generally far more powerfull.
If your domain is a hax though it could be tough. Like mahito's domain(although it will get him oneshot by any bleach character as all their souls are stronger than his and they can maintain their souls shape). But it could technically win him fights against people stronger than he is.
for the bankai stat boost point, there are two cases:
1- if your bankai is mainly a stat bankai, as in it specifically amplifies your stats, then its a 10x stat boost
2- if your bankai is ability focused then it amplifies your spiritual pressure by 5x and enhances your ability

I think Gege was successful with domain expansions they are just so unique and the names are so cold like malevolent shrine or deadly sentencing. All the powers in jjk are very creative. But bankais are so iconic and just as cold.

@@ozdaartist3106a domain at the end of the day is a barrier technique. Everything in that barrier is then targeted by a technique hence the guaranteed hit effect. Simple domain simply puts up a barrier around the user forming sort of a barrier within a barrier. So the user of simple domain is inside the new barrier which defends him/her from the sure hit of the opponents domain(that is the sure hit technique hits the barrier of simple domain instead of the user since the user is inside the simple domain barrier). This doesn't mean it's a complete defense, it's more so a way to buy time. The simple domain is still targeted by the sure hit of the domain so it can only last so long before it breaks. Notable examples would be when kenjaku instantly ripped through Yuki's simple domain simply by how strong his domain's guaranteed hit was, or it being stated that gojo's simple domain will not last long against malevolent shrine.

Me personally, i prefer the more strategic applications of the domain expansion abilities with characters like hakari, higuruma, and megumi, utilizing their domain as the main source of power for their toolkit, with bankai i still enjoy it, but it does feel like a bit more of an instant win button for characters. I mean the amount of times a character in bleach uses their bankai and instantly starts winning the fight is crazy. whereas a domain expansion in jjk has more drawbacks and feels like more of a gamble to use most of the time (depends on the character however). I like both for their power system, but i like the more intricate system of domains and the restrictions placed on them. Again, not hating on bankai, super cool system, i just prefer domains a little more.

What makes Bankai or Bleach in general superior to the power system in JJK is the concept of "power difference". In JJK, if someone activates domain expansion, it wouldn't matter how much stronger or weaker they are than their opponents, their attacks will always hit, tho stronger individuals seem durable enough to tank the hits in some cases. Granted they do have differentials as is the case with Domain tug of war, but the power system is pretty much a contest of who has the crazier abilities. In Bleach, reiatsu difference not only makes one resistant or even invulnerable to attacks, but the attacker can even receive backlash from his own power if the reiatsu difference is overwhelmingly huge. Unfortunately, this system is also what makes Bleach fights predictable, to some degree, cuz a fight is literally predetermined by power levels, not necessarily by abilities.
So what makes Bleach superior is that JJK has fights determined by good or bad match ups of unique abilities and skillsets rather than predetermined by power levels...?
@@muntu1221 I'm saying Bleach fights make it so that they're adding more rules and therefore varying scenarios by introducing this system. For example Soifon can 2 hit kill anyone with her technique but it doesn't work on someone like Aizen who has far greater reaitsu than her. Orihime can heal any wounds even restore corpses blown halfway but she struggles to even close Ichigo's wounds at some point. And keep in mind, reiatsu isn't stable either, it comes from one's soul so therefore it fluctuates depending on one's emotions so the rules to the fight might even change again, as is the case with Ichigo when he fought Kenpachi, at first he cut his own hand trying to cut Kenny but after he gained resolve, he was finally able to cut him. And it's also important to note that not all abilities follow the "reiatsu rule" necessarily. And what about match ups and skillsets? Bleach has that too lol, I recommend you watch the series too, not just the ones it inspired.

Now you're describing what is essentially the same thing that occurs in JJK. Cursed energy can be more or less refined, and sorcerers and cursed spirits are directly affected by mindset. It's psychic power and it's inattentive linked to emotions and state of mind.
I'm not talking about what Bleach does and doesn't have. I'm talking about what you said makes one better than the other. You specifically said Bleach has the better system because it comes down to big numbers and JJK doesn't generally do that. And I find that weird because the main criticism of shonen manga is that most franchises reduce fights to ever escalating levels of power. JJK is praised specifically for breaking that mold with all fights outside of a few inconsequential ones coming down to exploiting the power system's rules to get ideal outcomes. For example, any fight Gojo wins by being stronger always comes down to his enemies being uncreative and trying to match him in strength. He even says a guy's technique that is just cloning himself would've been way more powerful if he wasn't an idiot. I'm not saying Bleach doesn't have fights that come down to creativity, but everyone seems to conclude that Bleach's strength comes down to characters having busted power levels and busted abilities that complement their high power levels.

Domain expansions are more consistent with killing people, while bankai’s are more effective at killing.

Something that should be kept in mind that we are talking about these different "ultimate moves" here and not the way they are applied exactly. For example, Bankai is often used defeat opponents by having a higher power level than them, but this doesn't need to be the case. If Tite Kubo was a more strategic writer, more fights would be more like Byakuya's fights imo.
Domain Expansions are often used as a way to access a killer move rather than a power up, but in my eyes, they could've been used to forcibly gain homefield advantages even if pushed to a corner, which is important in JJK, but the author prefers not to do this.
Try to think of these different powers and abilities outside of the context of their respective verses and think of what YOU could or would do with them. Imagine if you were given the opportunity to write on behalf of the OG writers. Now, think about which one you like better.

I remember a series called Rozen Maiden, there, they did this domain expansion too.
To answer the question they are about the same,but i like the idea of your power manifesting in a form of a sword. The power is different for all zanpakutos but the idea that your powers are determined by your relationship with the manifestation of your fighting spirit and its cool af.
Big weakness to domains is that they can be simply broken by attacking them from the outside or inside especially if ya fighting like a minion user and the rather pathetic range they have. Longer range characters can like quite simply never be in ya range. Combine this with people who can tp ect being able to avoid it as soon as you start to manifest. Yet the biggest weakness to domains is a weakness to the verses power system. If you use verse equalization anyone with positive energy related powers will legit nullify and destroy a domain and simply not be effected by it since they are filled with what the show calls reverse cursed energy ie positive energy. We know from how this energy is able to casually blow up a special grade curse and how round deer destroys cursed techniques from being near them that any decent positive energy user will legit be nigh invincible to jjk with verse equalization.
That is not how positive energy works. You can't cancel techniques just by having it. Otherwise, Shoko would be busted. It kills cursed spirits because they're made of negative energy. Cursed energy can be minused out, but techniques can't.
Round Deer nullified the cursed energy of the liquid metal in Sukuna's body to heal the poisonous effect of it. But Agito couldn't nullify Limitless even when Maximum Blue was inside of its body. Yuta also can't nullify Ishigori's Granite Blast or Uro's Thin Ice Breaker. And if positive energy was all it took to nullify techniques and cursed energy, Hakari would never take damage. Even worse with domains. Shoko, Sukuna, Gojo, and Yuta would never be caught in them, especially Gojo. He's always filled with positive energy coursing through his body.
Heck, the Sword of Extermination just flat out doesn't work on Sukuna just because he's not a cursed spirit. It neither hurts nor canceled his cursed energy reinforcement. In fact, if we just go on the assumption that other verses produce raw positive energy, they'd just be healing sorcerers with their attacks.

U didn’t talk about the time taken for the domain to activate, if an opponent is fast enough they can just get out and then most sorcerers are dead due to the strain of the domain and they can’t use their curse technique

Is it just me who thinks domain expansion seems too complicated to fully understand? Cause i see multiples bankai fight in bleach , and i can easily categorised them in power , kido and hax type. And i absolutely love on how bankai need to be earned, need 2-ways communication and understanding with zanpakto spirit, not just simply know their names. Even Renji got cheated by his own zanpakto spirit in almost entire series until last arc, by saying the wrong name

A domain simply forms a barrier with you and the opponent and that barrier is imbued with a technique. The technique targets everything in the barrier except the user. This is why domains have sure hit attacks. Example mahito traps you in a barrier, the barrier is imbued with his technique and it targets everything in the barrier and he can't even distinguish. So everything in the barrier is having their soul touched, this is why he didn't want yuji in his domain because once he imbues the technique to the domain it will auto target yuji with everyone else in it even if he wants to exclude yuji.
@@wondays654 The technique can target everyone including the user, as well. It just depends on who the user selects as the target. Those tiny differences are what devices if domains clash or not. Megumi doesn't target anyone, so he can use their barrier as his own instead of getting into a tug of war to decide whose rules dominate.

I think Domain Expansion's are way more hype than Bankai, because bankai sometimes just feel like any other power, but if someone says ryuiki tenkai, you jist know something crazy is about to go down, no matter what.
7:49 Byakuya didn't get the upper hand when ichigo was tired. Byakuya simply activated another stage/mode of his bankai called "senkei" which means slaughterspace. It has the ability to form a domain arround it's opponent to restrict movements and it gradually debuffs the stats of the opponent making them weaker over time. So being simply faster or stronger against a bankai doesn't necessarily means that you can negate it unless you are talking about specific individual bankai which are stat boosts.
The problem is doman clashing which is a tug of war with power, i think top tier bankai release of power and output is going to bully domain expansion. There is more stronger bankai users than donain expansion users
True, however I think there is a case for 3 characters being able to survive fights. Gojo is one simply because of infinite void, it targets the brain by overloading it with info, so your physical capabilities mean nothing. Mahito is another because within his domain he can change your soul, even if it’s a strong soul it’s still subject to his idle transfiguration. Higuruma is another but this is also assuming we equate reihatsu to cursed energy, because he can definitely get deadly sentencing on most bleach characters with a bankai, which would rob them of their reihatsu. Obviously bleach characters can dominate the Jjk verse with little effort but there are still challenges.
I like bleach because its power system is clear. Reiatsu is overall power level then you have unique zampaktou abilities supplemented by kido. Each is easily identifiable visually and theoretically.

Everyone has Cursed Energy because Cursed Energy is made from negative emotions. Thus, all Domain Expansions would work on all humans. Pit them against bleach characters and they will work on them too because they experience and have negative emotions as well. So yes, Gojo's Domain Expansion would work on individuals from Bleach.

Don't count it out, as one other thing to consider is Domains were inspired by Reality Marbles from the Fate series. Not to mention Domains and Bankais do have a few similarities. Both provide the user a power boost, both typically require some form of command to use (i.e. vocally saying Domain Expansion while performing the hand sign and saying Bankai), and both are meant to be a reflection of the user and an evolution of their ability.
I go for Domain expansion solely for the sure-hit factor and that they are innate without relying on things. Having your trump card get stolen, lost or absorbed and used against you ain't something to worry about (unless your enemy figures a way to "acquire" you)

I don't really like Domains because for the exception of just a couple users, they never really do anything new, they just ensure your basic skill hits the target, maybe multiple times in some cases. Bankai however is a deep evolution of powers of a shinigami, it does something entirely different in 90% of cases and often doesn't just insta-win a fight if it's "better than your enemie's". More polished domain wins, but bankai is just a power up that you still need to apply in combat. New bankai users could be not skilled enough to use a busted bankai, or they could be dogshit, but busted bankai carries them, either way there's always a battle there, but for domains, unless it's gojo, sukuna or kenjaku being a target, it just is an insta-win. Domains such as hakari's are kind of absurd tho.
Yeah, Its a Insta-win, but its just a weapon in your arsenal since the enemy could use a simple domain or domain amplification as a counter to that tecnic and make you burn your own tecnic and garantice a sure hit after donmain. Tactic bullshit.
@@rosswelt9963 My problem with it isn't the tactics but the lack of nuance to a 1v1. If one opponent has a weaker domain, it becomes absolutely worthless. There's no such issue with bankais, as if one is weaker they still got a fighting chance if they use it well. Like i'm sure post TYBW or even Captain Rukia could easily rival Toshiro even if his bankai has larger scale of attacks and is overall considered more powerful. The nuances of their abilities define the battle and not just "My number is bigger so i win".
Most domains aren't insta wins, in fact in jjk an insta win domain is one of the highest feats in the verse. Most sorcerers have domains with rules that give them some sort of advantage. (Higurama, hakari, possibly uro and ryu)
@@wondays654 I am aware, i specified the situation in which one user has a better domain. This necessarily leads to his enemy's domain being a piece of useless garbage, unless they can somehow bait it out and survive. But otherwise domains follow a strict greater/lesser logic and it can't be altered, whilst bankai has no such restrictions. In fact bankais have changed multiple times in the series which just can't happen to a domain, at least not so far.

In terms of usage and potential i say domain because of its very unique abilities
But in terms of power and versatility it's Bankai it's already a great power boost in all your stats boosts and develops your abilities to its max and reiatsu as a concept is just way too broken
And I don't disagree with your argument on the 10x stat boost it should still boost all stats above their base form not by a huge amount but still a noticable difference as it's not just abilities getting amplified but their overall reiatsu and power which still affects the rest of their stats like speed and strength of course it would obviously give less boost for non specialized stats so not all stats will gain a huge boost but still should end with a noticable difference from their base form
Some bankai like urahara, kyouraku, Shinji, are just perfect domain like sukuna cuz they don't need barrier to trap the enemy. The only one that need to trap people is blind Guy that bankai that fought kenpachi in soul society.
The whole conceot of domain expansion is literally just Kaname Tōsens bankai

Domain expansion looks more interesting for me. In Bleach every shinigami has bankai and it's role went from the indication of power to yet another power up, became a normal, while domain expansion is not something anybody can attain - Nanami Kento is very capable sorcerer, but still did't use domain even once because his technique is not easily understood and expanded into a domain, which also needs to be built using barriers that are so complex that even Meumi, one of the main characters, figured how to expand his technique, but couldn't build a barrier for it.
Domain Expansion is a trump card that has severe limitation, like technique's burnout and too difficult to master for anybody to use it and most of the fights do not even involve some kind of a clash of domains because of a difficulty of using it.

@@tahminamonir8871 i meant that every shinigami on screen had bankai. All main characters who could have it had one, supporting characters had and few statists didn't have bankai. I can think of only one lieutenant who didn't have bankai.
Also, I have reread Bleach for 3 times, I love this manga series, but for me Domain seems more interesting than bankai

Imagine how much worse it would be if Bankai had been translated as "second release". It's disappointing that everyone knows it as Domain Expansion because RYOIKI TENKAI sounds infinitely cooler.

Too slow too weak. If 0.2 sec is some of the fastest activation speeds they are shafted. Bleach characters can use bankai kill them and go on vacation all in that time frame.
@@wondays654 That's not the activation speed. That's how long Gojo's domain lasted on the humans in Shibuya. What he did was combined the barrier construction and technique activation, which means the instant he activated it, everyone was hit already. The barrier didn't have to close for the effect to activate.
And, obviously, Sukuna is the same. The instant his domain was manifested, Shibuya turned to dust. And you could argue Sukuna's is too weak based on whatever (it's been confirmed his new slash is different than the other two he normally uses, meaning it's confirmed it negates durability), but Gojo's is not too weak. Their brains are scrambled just by being near him. And they can dodge all they want, he can instantly increase the range and they wouldn't know what it even was.

I really dislike the guaranteed hit that domain expansion brings. It handcuffs the flow of the fight in a manner that forces you to deal with it in some way. If that trait was not present I would say domain expansion would be really close to Bankai

for me I much perfer Domains and it's not even close.
One of the main reasons is that Bleach is just a power-up fest. It mainly boils down to who uses their strongest ability/attack last = winner. Bankai's are the purest example of this. Character uses their Bankai and starts to poop on their opponent. I find myself saying the same thing about Bankai's as i do about super saiyan blue...why not just cut out the middle man and start the fight with them if their so powerful. There is nearly no reason not to for most of the cast. Yes they are an indicator of a shift in the fight but only in the most superficial way possible. It's essentially; my number got bigger. There is not change in strategy, their is no appifiny the character comes to that alows them to see a flaw in the opponents ability.

Step 2.)The opposition does so little to resist the ass whooping that they might as well be taking a nap.
Step 3.)Then after they have been folded over like laundry; 10 gallons of blood on the floor, nearly comatose, they respond with; "Actually this isn't even my final form" Then repeat step 1
I like more stretegic fights. I prefer domains cause they feel like tools in the users belt. I like that there are universal ways to counter domains and that there are drawbacks to using them. It's like burning meter in a fighting game. Yeah you could get off a big damage super but if you wiff your screwed. Using it also locks you out of other options that might use your meter. I think Bleach has cool *ideas* for powers but the execution is what i have a problem with.
The mayuri and pernida fight was nothing like this tho
Also, this critique is less about bankai but more about their application in the story.

Bankai's worsen the problems i already have with Bleach. The system and the way it is built enables the dick measuring contest that are power-ups.
The abilities that most bankai give their users offer less utility and more ways to deal big damage. They don't have explotable flaws or limitations that could be used against them, or for them to work around. When counters fight each other it's just a flat loss for the person being countered.
let me compare 2 different anime.
Bleach:
Byakuya vs Zommari is a rare example of abilities having a tangible difference, and the mechanics of a power having an effect on how the fight plays out instead of being a different flavor of damage. Too bad it doesn't meen anything cause it's not explored cause the fight ends in the blink of an eye.
Problem is that Zommari is just flat out countered by Byakuya with no way in hell to fight back. No stratigey he can use, no different way of using his power that could give him a leg up. He just dies.
Onie Piece:
Luffy vs Enel
Luffy is Made of rubber and is immune to electricity. Enel is a Lightning Logia. So not only is Luffy able to touch him, he can't be hurt by his lighting attacks.
If this was Bleach Enel would just unlock a new form that completly bypasses the immunity, or would just flat out lose. Instead Enel uses the heat from his electricity to heat, melt and mold metal to use against Luffy. Giving him a chance to win even though he eventually loses.

Hell even if 5 fights aren't like this. Bleach has ALOT of fights and the vast majority of them fit the bill.
@@speeddevil4040 That's just not even true... Characters like Renji and Hitsugaya are meme'd because their Bankai doesn't get the job done and they end up losing fights after the activation of their Bankai.
Let me go through the fights in the initial part of the series that I can recall that see the release of a Bankai.
The very first fight in the series that uses a Bankai is Mayuri v Ishida Uryu. Your problem with Bankai's is that the moment they are released it basically guarantees victory for the person using it. Uryu activates Letzt Stil and pressures Mayuri into releasing Bankai because his AP and speed are simply too much for Mayuri to handle as he is not a fighter. Mayuri uses his Bankai that doesn't attempt to contest Uryu in strength or speed, it uses poison to bridge the difference in physical capabilities. Mayuri ends up losing the fight still and is forced to retreat but the poison of his Bankai still infects Uryu and puts him in an endangered situation (if it wasn't for Nemu's antidote).
The second showing of a Bankai is in Renji v Byakuya. Renji's infant Bankai gets toyed with by a Shikai Byakuya, he ends up losing the fight before Byakuya even responds with his own release. Byakuya only releases his to show the difference in power and experience between the two. So, that's two losses for Bankai. It's not going how you described.
The next use of a Bankai is in Tosen v Kenpachi. Tosen releases his Bankai and plays with his food instead of going for the kill, he loses that fight. That's another loss for Bankai.
The following one is by Komamura against Kenpachi, the conclusion of this fight is never shown, only that Komamura fled the moment he sensed Yamamoto in battle.
Ichigo v Byakuya is the next one and finally we have a Bankai that actually changes the tide of a fight, Ichigo's speed in Bankai counters Byakuya's petals and forces him to use his own Bankai and its various techniques. The battle is decided by a clash of swords and Byakuya concedes defeat. This is the first win for a Bankai and it is not even how you described.
After that, we see the Bankai used in Ichigo v Yammy where Ichigo schools his opponent until his Hollow begins to mess with him mentally. This wasn't even a battle where Ichigo was fighting in base and then used his Bankai and gained the upper hand, he was in Bankai from the beginning.
The following usage of Bankai is with Ikkaku against Edorad and this actually goes how you described, Ikkaku is losing in Shikai against a Ressurecion Arrancar and responds with the Shinigami equivalent and ends up winning. There's the fights with Histugaya and the vice-captains against the Fraccions but we won't count them as they had Gentei Kaijo seals on them that restricted their power by 80% and upon release of the seals, their previously failing Bankai's became effective.
After this comes Ichigo v Grimmjow, where Ichigo's Bankai gets utterly demolished by an unreleased Espada, this was an embarrassing loss.
I could go on but you get the point. Just from those encounters, that is 4 losses after the release of Bankai, 3 wins after the release and 1 inconclusive as we didn't see the fight.
Only tosen ans kujaku's bankai are similar to domain expansion. You didn't need 20mns for that.

Jjk verse gets soloed by anyone from the arrancar arc. And I'm not even trying to be funny because jjk is my favorite series right now. They just get washed. Some of the most terrifying characters like mahito's abilities won't even work on fodder soul reapers.(they are souls and need to maintain their shape to exist, so mahito won't be able to transfigure them). Speed diff is also too high. Curse Naoya is one of the fastest characters in jjk and he is mach3 which is slower than assault rifle fire. Too weak, too slow.

This discussion isnt that interesting. Domin Expanion takes more inspiration f4om the Psychics from Yuyu Hakusho. They basically function the same. DE has more depth though.

The base rules of domains are fully explained and I'm assuming when you say most villains have it you mean the disaster curses which is appropriate for a finger bearer level of strength
