i think ichikawa is (maybe?) trying to make a point abt generational trauma. as kongo was just made as a praying machine, that was all he was. that was his purpose. kongo made jobs for the gems before, but he made them think that those jobs were all they were, their purpose was their only (defining) trait. both brongo and phos were "useless" in the eyes of their societies, brongo was forgotten abt most of the time and phos was only seen as an inconvenience in the eyes of the gem society. phos breaks this pattern by not wanting to do harm like this to the rocks and not doing so. and i think this is also how brongo the goober and phos bond in general, but thats just my opinion. great video as always!
Yeah definitely can see that point on generational trauma especially with how many iterations and parallels we can draw upon for the series at this point.
Nothing to do with the video: I really love that Phos seems somewhat happy with their existence. I also love this design of them. I Just keep on falling in love with Phos and their design and character
Don’t worry about the relevancy lol I get plenty of comments that are tangential (or not even related). I am more happy to get a comment. Phos’ design is just marvelous because it’s not just the big sweeping changes that we get when things broke or transform but the subtle ones between chapters as well especially as seen with the post prayer variations of Divine Phos.
Those 2 panels really washed over me in a unique way I can't describe while bein so simple. Ur prediction on the prayer & the chapter count R prob correct by this point. While still vague overall(cus ofc lol) these last couple chps. R so much more clear on things then wut we've had for a while since the return. Brongo(cool name btw lol) has some thoughts I think R pretty neat especially for the current situation. Imma miss this series if it really ends in a few months but It was all very lustrous(I'll C myself out)
Yeah this series has been on my mind every day since I caught up and it’ll be really sad when it finally does come to a conclusion.
The airport art is super interesting. I feel like Ichikawa is just one of those mangaka whose characters are always going to look similar. It's interesting to see her use such bold colors after the pastel look of HnK though.
Yeah that’s true her designs for characters from the anthology series before Houseki have prototypes for Kongo and Phos and what not. In terms of colors though, Ichikawa actually loves to use these bright colors for celebrations as seen with her What If? Tokyo exhibit that happened 2 years ago in 2021.
i feel like ichikawa talked about subjects that are very wide-open to our own interpretation, as in any panel i could personally find a critic to our society in general. but most importantly, compared to the last chapters, despite being as empty or even more, this one felt more like peace ?? like, in a way that it felt like closure : for exemple, they never actually talked about the actual present, in a way that even when they actually speak about the current moment, it has the idea of infinity : "we're in paradise", "i'm in perpetual repose",ect....
also something i noticed is that the chapter was clearly cut in 2 parts (well that's obvious artistically as the first part is very light, and the other is very dark) : the first part definitely looks full, with emotions, kinda reminiscent of the start of houseki no kuni, more lively and you could go on and on ; the second, however, was he complete opposite, it felt very calm, at peace, as if the time was frozen (despite the idea of infinity being omnipresent), immediately right after the rocks fall asleep. it lowkey reminds me of the human nature, which is more lively when being social with other living beings, but calm when alone.
i think the final chapter is probably the next one, because phos seems to be foreshadowing it saying "i think the last chapter should be softer", therefore longer in my understanding, or else it would be the 111th, because 111 is an angel number that symbolizes the start and the end, it's also about the idea of a spiritual awakening that is being introduced to us since the "rebirth" of phos.
Wow yeah I hadn't thought of the chapter split down the middle like that but that's super cool and I see it now. I mean yeah if we end with Ch 105, that will be awesome because then it'll end in Oct which will fall of the 11th year anniversary. Haven't heard anything talk about an ending at 111 but hey I am all for even more chapters if we do end up getting something past 108!
after seeing pho's entire struggle thus far, it reminds me of the story of "the ones who walk away from omelas" where every other gem could finally attain happiness by sacrificing phos

Wow I watched this yesterday and I didn't realize this is about Chapter 104 which I read just now. No wonder I felt a little bit off watching this video but surprisingly I'm not really spoiled by this probably because I don't really pay attention on this video.
