Firstly let me thank you for making this vid Content creation is never easy especially with a topic as complicated as MiA. The manga might have gone in different directions than you were predicting but i think that without a doubt you are ABSOLUTELY right about your last statement: A sacrifice will have to be made between Riko and Liza but I'm not sure how it pans out it might be Liza sacrificing herself for Riko's future to 'become a real girl' and get out from under the timer of the Curse Repelling Vessel and also ties into my hypothesis below. What I think is at the bottom of the Abyss: Ok this is a long shot but partially informed by aesthetics and theme. LARGE SWATHES of assumptions made below. At the bottom of the abyss is the remains of an inhuman culture (probably not of this world (alien or intradimensional), morphic and using biotech heavily) , the 'material' we see in the lowest drawings all have organ-like structures and even names, and I think that it is an impacted vessel from a culture that never needed to work metals to make it to the stars. I'm not even sure there are 'members' of this civilization as much as the entire organic blob down there is the ship/organism/culture. I don't think this thing/ship/culture did much but just impact and start to heal. I think all the compass's were distributed on the creature/ship/civilization's impact as it screamed through the atmosphere, guaranteeing a constant stream of people being drawn there. If we go by each layer represents 2k years aboveground, then that's 16k years ago this happened, and if this is an 'alternative earth', that sets it well before nearly any culture could cross open seas. The earliest 'citizens' would be the animals that the proto-abyss could attract through artifacts like Zooaholic and who knows what else, then 'transforming' them through its various biotechs into the creatures of the abyss, but here's the thing, I need to go over hypothesis 2 to touch on this: Hypothesis 2: Creatures that go through the transformation that Nanachi went through, as well as Reg and Sherumi and Menae exhibit a kind of trait adoption. I think that Humans that undergo the process come out with animal features, AND animals that go through the same process BECOME MORE HUMAN. Sherumi and Menae have six nipples, I believe that they were once animals that were transformed to become more human, a 'nanachi in reverse', and probably has something to do with their mysterious twinship. So the Abyss turned a bunch of animals into more manually effective humanlike creatures and had them perform some kind of service for the Abyss, and likely building the Golden City (which I think won't end up being a city at all, but an organelle of the creature/ship/culture) and maybe even fashioning some artifacts (but I think most are grown like eggs and mysteriously distributed probably by the creatures of the abyss itself as the well trodden layer 1 keeps showing new low grade artifacts in its layers. I believe the artifacts are in fact bait, just randomly thrown up by the being at the bottom of the abyss to lure more people in. It might be as simple as harvesting biomass, or making a closed arena where only the best and most vicious beasts survive in order to record their genetic sequences for creating future creatures. Every 2000 years, the whole abyss collapses down a new layer, getting deeper and deeper over time, increasing the time dilation effect the deeper it gets. Some people on reddit estimated that at Riko's current level, years if not decades would be passing by above in days where they are. It's possible that means the 'birthday death disease' segments we saw with Kiyui and the person Ozen was visiting in the ruins were years apart. I think we are getting very close to the part where Oorth gets turned into Layer1 and everyone there becomes praying skeletons. That brings us to Reg. I think Reg is the PERFECT example of the transformation. That he was Riko's dog that Lyza brought down to the deepest layers to transform him using the Abyss's curse into a perfect narehate, once dog but now with no animal features outside of costume art style and attitude (and sense of smell), immune to the abyss but for some reason losing his arms which get replaced by bottom level grade artifacts. Lyza likely used herself as the sacrifice to send Reg up to bring Riko back to the bottom, and for THAT reason I am absolutely clueless but likely Liza's a massively powerful Mitty-like 'leftover' creature but maybe so horrible that she is now a smaller version of the abyss (LIke in a way Ilblu was). Sorry for the wall of text, I have been working on this for a while now.
Wow thank you for your kind words! That theory is a lot to take in but has some very interesting and plausible connects to the mysteries of Made in Abyss. 100% there has to be some sort of crazy world down there and I really want to believe in your theory! Even the curse of the abyss itself works like a trap where it's easy to descend as there are no effects when going down but the abyss tries to keep people down using the layers of ascent. Also, I can't remember if they explained anything about what actually happened to Riko's dog? Did they ever say he passed away or ran away or something because I think that part of your theory is actually the most interesting part to me. If Reg actually is the dog that has been put into a cyborg body haha
@@thebakery115 Riko's dog is barely mentioned in the official series, just a few indirect references, and I think only gets 1 or 2 actual art panels in some of the side content. We know she HAD a dog, and it was named Reg, and that there was affection between them but that is the limit of our hard knowledge. To my mind, if the dog isn't in her life now, and Riko is still so young it wouldn't have passed on from old age, her memories would be bitter if the pupper had passed away, so the only thing I can come up with is Lyza took the dog with her on a dive, and Riko knew about it. If the dog had randomly disappeared or passed by violence, I'd think Riko's memories of him would be more bitter, and one of the other orphans would mention it. Can't wait to see what comes next. This recent volume was good but very lore light. Have the best week!
Not sure if Lyza would sacrifice her daughter seeing as she went through all the trouble to bring Riko up from the abyss with Ozen's help. I'm under the impression that the note wasn't actually addressed to Riko
I kind of believe that she would after seeing bondrewd's megamind plan of preparing his daughter to become a life reverberating Stone to make himself a furry
@@garrett691 yeah true that Bondrewd was the worst of the white whistles according to Ozen but that still leaves alot of room for some irredeemable acts from the others, they can't all be that bad tho right?! xD
@@TheGooberSlayer I'm going to be honest probably not because even though he was masked we f***** up there was still small parts of him at seem to show a weird amount of compassion and admiration and that was supposedly after he lost his humanity to make his white whistle, I can only imagine what the other ones even farther down have done
I think its Lyza at the bottom of the abyss trying to find a way to make riko stay alive. We know that riko died and is kept alive cause of the curse repelling box, so it would make sense if her mom is trying to find a way to save her permenatly. If Lyza found the solution at the bottom of the abyss but realized she needs Riko to be down there in order for it to work, she could have sent reg up to get her and escort her back.
Nearly a year late but I wanted to say: it’s an interesting theory but then there’s the issue of the whole “point of no return” thing, like what is the point if they can never leave the Abyss? Unless that’s the whole point cos Riko was literally _made in the Abyss_ (born I mean), and she said things *from* the Abyss have a habit of *returning* to the Abyss, I think it’s meant to be a twist on the real world “Call of the Void” phenomenon but I guess we’ll see
Guarantee Riko has no “soul” since she died at birth and ascended while getting revived by the artifact. So maybe Lyza needs riko to enter the 8th layer because you lose your soul when you enter, but since riko has no soul… Just a thought
I wonder what’s up with Riko’s dog being named Reg and finding out recently that our Reg’s original name before Riko named him after her dog, was still Reg.. Of course, it could all be a coincidence just to show how similar Liza and her daughter think and their name preferences…but I doubt they’d throw that out there for no other reason. This is such a stretch, but it almost makes me wonder if there’s a possibility old Reg knew about and maybe even met baby Riko at some point before Liza’s last dive. And maybe that’s why the name was still on her mind when she named her dog later, since it possibly had a friendly appearance and personality that she associated with meeting Reg, but as she got older she simply forgot about their meeting, since it was so brief and she was so little. Also why Reg wouldn’t have remembered or recognized Riko by the time he came too again on the surface? Could also explain how Ozen knows Reg too?
"Why Reg wouldn’t have remembered or recognized Riko by the time he came too again on the surface?" Answer is simple - Reg only had 1 charge of the "incinerator" by the time he left Faputa while going up to Orth and he saved Riko with it, losing memory. Notice how he was unconscious/inoperable for far more than 2h? This is it. But I like your theory about Reg meeting little baby Riko. :)
@@subarusama5673 What I think might be shocking is that Reg used two shots of Incinerator There's no way that Reg have eyeballed blindly and somehow hit the Crimson Splitjaw where Reg used his 'last' use of Incinerator by top of the tree, but wait? there's smoking rest coming out of the stone. You might think the direction that fired from from the very opposite direction, its like Reg has been trapped inside rock and stone and in this ten minute period, he can make this decision to save Riko from Crimson Splitjaw before eventually losing conciousness and perhaps memory loss from overusing his Incinerator that makes sense from height where he got the crimson splitjaw and Riko at sight from the base of the tree, but DEFINITELY not from the top of the tree where the sight is most likely obstructed from view. What is really going on these opening minutes from first episode?
I like ozen being straight telling riko and reg that she is the most nicest one among from other white whistles. If bondrewd is already that twisted, can't even imagine how the rest will be like... Psycho? Dramatic? Trickster?, Can't wait to see it!
Srajo is a tricktster, she tries tp get the neccesary using indirect questions or making the situation where characters will show their reaction and accidentally tell something important. It would be interesting to see her future actions.
To be fair, Bondrewd was kind nice in his own weird way. He just was entirely amoral about what he did to others. Ozen represents strength, the strength to pursue the desire to dive into the abyss Bondrewd represents progress and knowledge, the fierce desire to feed our curiosity. Srajo represents cunning, if she is a trickerster - she might represent greed as she seems the most treasure-hunting-esque of them all Wakuna represents guidance or wisdom, so maybe he is the will to live.. ? I assume his personal relic allows him to live an abnormally long time. Lyza represents feroiousness, tentancity. She is curious with her title 'annihilator' I feel like of anyone, she may be keen to destroy the abyss or maybe all of humanity in service of the abyss? IDK Riko.. well I'm not sure what she represents? Innocence? Indomitable human spirit? Kindness? If she is the inverse of her mother that is. I'm curious to see how the series will end or what it all mean in the end. Maybe all the white-whistles are seeking godhood or power in their own rights. Perhaps Riko will be the first to hold onto her humanity of the white-whistles.
Slight clarfication with the curse repelling box. it doesn't heal damage, it reanimates corpses. Riko was a still borne but didn't have any bodily harm done to her so she was really just born again. if you put someone whos been exposed to the sixths layer curse in there. they may come back but not healed as they were before the damage the curse inflicted. This does open up a lot of questions though. Considering the significance of the soul in the abyss i wonder if what the box really does is return the soul to the original vessel from the abyss. The abyss then sees this as an transgression against its law of "everything from the abyss returns to the abysss" and that's what started the phenomena of all of the fresh corpses ozen uses on the box heading towards the abyss. To an extent we can even say this is the abyss working on Riko, not even fully motivated by wanting to see her mother but deep down shes really supernaturally drawn to the bottom. Not sure how this applies to Wakuzan tho.
Hmm but in the beginning we learn that Riko took damage from the ascension while in the box, but it was considerably less than what would have been, considering she just has bad eyesight and gets headaches without wearing crystal lenses. Unless, given she was a newborn, she basically died over and over again inside the box. There's definitely something up with her soul though, given Faputa commented on that as well. Ah, so many questions still haha
I've also theorized that Lyza has called Riko down to the bottom of the Abyss, not for a heartfelt reunion, but because Lyza needs Riko to meet some end goal. If anything, it's a good theory cause it's just the sort of fucked up thing Tsukishi would write. Since you brought up that the letter was written in handwriting that wasn't Lyza's, it could be possible that Lyza initially sent Reg to get Riko, but then something happened to her, and an accomplice wrote the letter, in order to make sure Riko came anyways.
@@jolievanilleShe killed every aggressive creature and every rival delver team (12 of them) she encountered. She specifically wiped the squad that killed her husband. And she used Blaze Reap as her weapon, a combusting pickaxe. That combination is the reason for her nickname, there never was much left of whatever she fought.
Good theory, it makes sense in terms of the themes that revolve around in Made In Abyss, but it also kinda feels repetitive in terms of how you would gain access to a new layer because in order to go get into the 6th layer you need a white whistle which is also a sacrifice of someone very precious to you.
That's right, They wouldn't want to repeat themes like that. Maby there is another reason or mechanic that needs Riko and Lyza to both be there to get to the next layer
I mean.. isn't that exactly why it would happen? The concept of sacrifice is the entire backbone of the story and it's characters, not only the white whistle stuff. It's about what these characters have to sacrifice in order to survive and to pursue their goals, going further down the Abyss. We've seen the theme play out numerous times like Mitty saving Nanachi, or Ozen and Bondrewd sacrificing their humanity. Wakuzan sacrificing Irumyuui's children in order to survive and everyone sacrificing themselves to her in order to become Hollows. And then these hollows even sacrificed themselves again to Faputa. The story will definitely go further down that hole. lol
Adding to this theory is regs ascent itself. The anime doesn't give us much to go on in that regard. So we instinctively come to the conclusion that he ascended stealthily. Which should had been highly unlike given the fact that there are two screening points dedicated to preventing unwanted artifacts from reaching the surface. Both ido front and the seeker camp. So far we haven't had too much information on how somebody even ascends back from the 6th layer to the 5th but if somebody has to take the same elevator to do so. That means reg already has stepped onto bondrewds domain. Which is interesting beacuse that would mean he sneaked past him somehow. Or convinced him to let him through and go to the surface. For either of those scenarios to work .reg must had been operating under directions or knowledge provided by lyza or another whistle who has also been to ido front. But crazily enhough the same scenario poses itself all the way back up on the second layer, over by seeker camp. If you pay close attention to the camp and it's surroundings you can determine really quickly that, is also pretty well bottlenecked in its ascent, just like ido front. Coupled with a team led by ozen to keep watch around the encampment .you can tell right away that anything making its way up past seeker camp its highly unlikely to go unnoticed. Meaning somehow reg sneaked past it and avoided her or talked to ozen and convinced her to let him through. Yet agian something that could had only happened if lyza or another whistle had given him the knowledge to do so. Incidentally, ozen is the one who slips up and tell us all this when she addresses riko and tells her that raiders have something akin to that of a faith in the abyss. And that information and even artifacts that compromises those beliefs have not only been found. But stopped and gone uncatalogued. It's almost as if she's telling us it's her job to stop that from happening. And here comes reg and somehow sneaks or talks his way right through her. However you slice regs ascent or decide to think about it dosent detract from the fact that he did so beacuse whatever is going on from where reg ascended is so crucial that it necessitated either sneaking past or convincing these two white whistles to let him through. And as we have seen they both possessed the ability to stop him. Yet regardless he was successful in getting to the surface. Finding riko saving her and even though he loses his memory. It's also able to help riko embark on her journey to the bottom of the abyss. All of it had to be. To a certain degree, planned by somebody. at the bottom. and we are seeing that persons plans unfold through the story.
Season 2 showed a Reg saying goodbye to Faputa flashback. Reg basically says he is gonna swim through the ocean of bones. So he did not use the elevator thus, he avoided going through Bondrewds place. There is alsobthe factor that Lyza has some way to contact Bondrewd and if Lyza really is Reg's master then Lyza woild have already informed Bondrewd about the whole Reg thing.
I actually thought at some point, that the one who sent the letter is Riko herself... time works differently at the bottom, so can it at some point become a future? Something about time paradox... after all there is a relic, which can stop time, so maybe there are more relics that can affect time flow... this can be anything. I am just so curious about the story... reminds me Attack on titan, when the story and mysteries were also uncovered very slowly (altough I was a little bit dissapointed by the way story went...)
Its clear from the memories of Lyza and Ozen in season 1 that Lyza loves riko and that the letter is addressed to her. It is also pretty set in stone that Reg knew Lyza before losing his memories and he was the one that made the grave in the garden of the flowers of resilience. It was also hinted a few times that Reg has a maker and that there are people living in the golden city. Therefore I believe that Reg's maker wrote the letter since Lyza definitely knew about Reg before going down to the bottom of the abyss (since riko dog name is also Reg).
something everyone is forgetting is that riko doesn't have a soul since she was stillborn. I think her and reg are going to be the only ones able to traverse into the 8th layer, with the property probably being that it claims your soul since the abyss's whole theme is about losing ones' humanity
i’m pretty sure that the nature of the curse repelling vessel is that it returns the soul that is lost back into the body that’s perished - though this soul is touched by the abyss, leaves a mark on it, and longs to rejoin it. it’s commonly stated throughout the whole story how souls have significance and connection within the abyss. i do think that this connection with the abyss (as well as the curse repelling vessels impact on rikos eyesight/lasting effects on her not just mentally or spiritually but physically) will be important at the ending!
Your right! I really have to look more into the soulless characters! They discuss that a bit more in one of the latest chapters. Might have to re-read it!
i think it’s important to acknowledge riko being a child could have a huge impact on the reason behind the letter calling her there. the whole situation with irumyuii and the cradles of desire shows how some netherworld relics behave differently in the hands of children. although, riko is approaching an age where that line begins to blur. i picked up vol 11 of the manga as soon as i was able, and i’m excited for the next to come out :)
After all the sacrifices made to save Rico, i doubt her mom would lure her to sacrifice her. Especially after that second season with the motherhood subject. I think she found something wonderful that she wants to share with her most precious person.
First, I love your theroy about sacrificing the one you love to get to the eighth layer. Although I hope it isn't the FINAL layer. Reg might have an even bigger connection to the 8th layer because his creator or creators are probably down there, possibly dead, I'm sure Riko's mother found them, but her being Regs creator is way more interesting. I do think Liza is alive, but I dont know how she could be thought, maybe she found a way to upload her consciousness in one of the robots in the 8th layer OR she might be wating to take over Riko's body when she gets to the 8th layer. I do hope you're right about your theory because that's really awesome if it happens. Also, anymore theories about Reg would be cool. Great video. 🔥
I have a wierd fascination with the White Whistles. How do they just effortlessly traverse the Abyss? What makes them so different? Is it just Experience and Artifacts?
The show showed how fucked up it is to even gain a white whistle so "non of the White Whistles" traversed beyond the 5th layer "effortlessly". Like Bondrewd don't traverse through layers effortlessly like he has to make cartridges made if children just to counter act the curse. Bondrewd made his own body into a white whistle. Like that is a big example on how meticulous and a lot of effort is needed just to do what a white whistle can do.
Experience, Artifacts and life-reverberating stones wich have some weird power and connection to the abyss aswell.but yeah i feel the same facination about the white whistles and the abyss and its creatures aswell
I think that the white whistles power will play a bigger role! I definitely think they all have an artifact that helps them traverse the layer's with ease
Sacrificing the person you love isn't already a requirement to go to the 6th layer ? Not the host, that goes for the benediction, but all white whistles were/are a person loved and sacrificed and it's the only way to go to the 6th layer. So that's kind of redundant
Technically the white whistle is only needed to take the easy way down to the 6th layer (the elevator) if someone was crazy enough to or had a way to get down through the sea of corpses then you could go down there without a white whistle
Not sure on the sacrificing of her daughter but I think that it may be cause she was borne and revived in the abyss making her a artifact herself being the key to enter the final layer
What i'm sure about is that there is no way Made in Abyss will have a Happy ending, With that said i do think that the abyss goes far deeper than just one more layer my guess is there will be at least 3 more layers with a big twist on the last one (the sacrifice thing might be it but i do think it might be something far more obscure and terrifying than that).
Considering that the letter was found where Reg lost his memories and that Reg has the same name as Rikos dog its highly likely the sender sent Reg with the letter and Lyzas white whistle. Not only is he the best choice for sending the letter up but you also need a way to get Riko down safely. It just fits. As for your theory on why bring Riko it sounds too much like a rehash of the white whistle requirement imo.
With all the artifacts and ruins encountered throughout the Abyss, I wonder if the cause of the curse is some ancient device activated by this lost civilization which brought ruination to their home and twisted the very world around them.
That makes kind of sense. Like the 6th layer could have been a city that relied on the other layers to bring them resources since there is none on the layer and the city would provide basics technology to the other layers. So when that happened the city slowly died and the rest followed suite.
Srajo is looking for "Priestess" and the myth of Hairomari legend.. Srajo has nothing to do with that letter.. but maybe it was written by Wakuna since he always alone and maybe he need others help because the key of path to the next layer is need more people than 1.. Srajo is lead the cursed fleet squad, so Srajo is not alone but explore the deep level of Abyss is not Srajo's goal.. And since Wakuna is lord of guide, maybe he want to guide the humanity to the new horizon but can't do it alone and blocked at last point until someone come.. the letter is also never mentioned for Riko in fact :/
I personally don't think this theory will happen just by the fact that it sounds to me too similar to the concept of sacrificing yourself to make a white whistle for someone.
personally i like this idea but i think maybe it would be the other way around cause you already have to have someone sacrifice them self for you to become a white whistle so maybe you have to sacrifice your self for someone else
I disagree, rukuna, Liza and srajo are not the only ones bellow, there's also reg's kin, during the battle with bondrew another "reg" took his body, and we can see some images of that "reg", it has long hair and a different helmet. But I do agree on something, the encounter between Liza and riko it will be nasty for riko. A long time ago I posted on reddit this theory about the importance of Haku (value) to trade very important things with the abyss, and we have to add that is confirmed that reg went into the surface to gatter haku(not his Haku, just Haku) to possibly trade it with the abyss. He was aware that Haku it's important and possibly the use that Liza its planning (I presume that it's Liza's Haku bcs the two of them meet in the abyss) But the thing is that reg it's not longer tied to the former reg and their plans, so the current reg will have to make a difficult choice, save riko from his mother, or cooperate whit Liza or the other "regs" that are in the bottom in whatever shit they're planning, that presumably it's a very important thing doe to the abyss transition into the next 2000 year era
I think the bottom of the abyss is just an empty space, an uninteresting and unamazing pit that can never be escaped due to the immense pressure of the curse at that level.
Im not like super up to date on lore but isnt riko like undead or something technically? Can she still lose her humanity and turn into a hollow? Is she technically like human??
If it was his skin we would probably see a mark on him. However if there are other "Reg's" like the "girl-type" then a good chance it could be from their body!
This is a part that hasn't been mentioned. Every White Whistle that Riko has interacted with has a team attached to them. Even Riko has her team. So wouldn't Lyza have a team dedicated to her? Also, every White Whistle has undergone some physical change. Could it be that Lyza has become something like Reg with robotic limbs?
Interesting theory on riko and her mother. I have a different theory altogether. Lyza and reg obviously know each other. Lyza sent reg to the surface to be riko's personal protector. Since reg lost his memories due to getting fried in the chair in episode 1, reg forgot his mission was to keep riko safe and out of the abyss. Instead, the opposite happens. Also, another theory is that the golden city is only accessible in death, as if there is a protective barrier that only the soul can penetrate, akin to heaven, and so reg and riko, once they find this out, have to make the most difficult decision, does reg sacrifice riko to be reunited and realize her dream of truly reaching the bottom of the abyss and the golden city, or does reg and rikos love and care for eachother after all theyve been through, they choose to live together outside the golden city since reg is not pure human and thus cannot penetrate the barrier to the golden city. Also perhaps we discover reg killed lyza so she could reach the bottom and enter the golden city. All pure speculation, but considering Tsukushi enjoys torturing the audience with deeply emotional scenarios surrounding suffering and death, i wouldnt put it past him to go this route.
Nice theory but I disagree. You already need to sacrifice someone who loves you to get to the sixth layer so they won't use that twice. If anything Riko could be the artifact needed to get to the 8th layer.
We have seen sarja in the vol 11 on made in abyss so it's most likely wakuna because he has relics like the great novel yet I am waiting for the 12th Volume due to amazon
I doubt that considering your already have to make a sacrifice of someone you love and loves you in return in order to get a white whistle. I do think Reg wrote the note in order to not forget though.
Hmmm I feel like we're missing some key parts to your theory like where does Reg fit into this, but I feel like you are spot on about the sacrifice. I feel it may be the other way around though.
i’m thinking maybe it’s possible that she isn’t trying to sacrifice her daughter to get deeper into the abyss, but rather to return back up to the surface through the blessing?
I think that Lysa’s whistle is sacrificed by her lover ,as so as Riko’s father. So that is why we don’t saw him. And Ozen is practically hate Lysa’s husband, because he made her cry, or so I read it from somewhere.😅
Long time i didnt search for a made in abyss theory lol I was thinking about Riko losing his humanity but layer 6 was about not losing your humanity, your souls and not lose who you are so i dont know Maybe a sacrifice add with another thematic maybe a sacrifice of someone you hate or sacrifing yourself instead of another so its not that répétitive there plenty facettes of the same thematic
I don't know who wrote the letter, but I'd bet it isnt Lyza purely on Ozen's familiarity with her. As it is, in also convinced that Lyza is already going down the abyss with Riko inside of Reg. The time we saw Reg go ballistic, that was actually Lyza we were seeing in all her terrifying fury. We can easily infer that she was a brutal and ruthless fighter based on what we know about her. Helps that we're straight up shown Lyza when Reg says he felt other people inside of himself.
I can't believe you have mentioned that. You have perfectly teased one of my next videos... 🤔 Keep an eye out for a video about Reg's mission and I actually talk about that very thing in it!
The "curse repelling vessel" could in theory allow you to return from the 6th layer, since the strain of the curse isn't guaranteed to be loss of humanity, but rather that's the alternative if it doesn't kill you. And as we know from Ozen, the vessel doesn't actually repel the curse at all but instead resurrects the thing thats placed inside of it, so if you were to get inside it and ascend the 6th layer, assuming you were killed and didn't turn into a narehate then the vessel could bring you back to life, though its anyone's guess how effective this would be if it did work and how long youd stay alive for afterwards
Personally, I think it's the exact opposite. The strain kills you only if a) you're already a hollow, b) you hasn't transformed into hollow (blob) fully [so the body is half-human, half-narehate and the life-sustaining functions of the organism can't exactly work properly anymore since they can't exactly 'connect' those two parts]. That's why we see so many child-blobs in the Minature Garden of Dawn and why Vueko is the only transformed narehate that dies after being transformed. Also, there's the altair narehate that dies after using the altair
I think whoever wrote the letter was a native of the Abyss since Ozen said it was written without using any of the simplified forms of the glyphs, so either Reg or some other entity from the Abyss, like maybe Riko's original soul. It might be at the bottom according to the Abyssal faith teachings, and we know there is something unusual about Riko's soul from Faputa, likely due to her being resurrected from a relic. I also don't think any of the known White Whistle carriers will have all the answers. Riko being some sort of key to reaching beyond the known layers makes sense to me, though we don't know in what way. It doesn't have to be through being sacrificed. There is a lot special about her already.
ngl I thin that there is nothing at the bottom... it feels like with every layer it gets darker and more twisted with less good to show for it. almost like its trying to show why morbid curiosity for new knowledge isn't always a good thing
i think this theory stays a theory ,its pretty unlikely that lyza whould do this. +its allready the way to get a white whistle -it could be regs backstory that will tell us -it could be wakuna that has written this letter -it could be something that is down there with or without her mother as we dont know if she is still alive or is still the lyza she was as she went for her last dive
Riko is the first Ozen is the second Maybe wakuna can be the 3nd one cuz his/her title is "The guidance" but theres chances that he/she can take ozen place
Ozen is the "nicest". I could be a complete jerk yet jump into a fire to rescue an orphan or something, personality ≠ morality. And you doubted her reliability as an honest information giver, why trust that statement so blindly?
Holy sh$t if that happens to be true I'll be mind blown, as Lyze sent Reg to get Riko so your theory might actually be true, and also we might get ending where Reg has to choose between two of them when he remembers everything and he actually chooses to protect Riko and we get to defeat Lyze, entering the bottom of the abyss. Also if we don't meet creators of Reg down there in 7th layer, then city of technology has to be in the 8th layer. SO many things to theorize about! Nice video dude!
I'm not sure... If Lyza cared so much about Riki why leave her behind in a non return journey? Ozen could be closer to Lyza since she was her mentor and the person who saved Riko... I would argue Torka is the person Lyza loved the most, since she was so determined to save their childe but couldn't bear to raise her alone? Maybe? I don't know about your theory
@@thebakery115 oh, yes, that's what I meant actually. Dante's Inferno is his interpretation of the catholic hell from his poem "The Divine Comedy". Some layers of the Abyss are very similar to corresponding circles of the Inferno. For example, the fifth circle is a swampy river Styx and the sixth is an upper part of the City of Dis
She was helpful and I probably would call her a 'good guy' although just because someone has good intentions doesn't mean they go about it the 'nicest' way
The manga is roughly a third of a season ahead I would say. Season 2 ends around chapter 60 and we are up to chapter 69. The artwork in the manga is absolutely beautiful though... Except for Akihito's fetish... Just have to look past it haha 🥲
I cannot say that I didn't come to the same conclusion. Though I will say it doesn't seem as of yet (as of writing this vol. 12 is out in the states) that the newest white whistle we are introduced to is a terrible person. And in some respects, Bondrewd was that evil (hear me out). Bondrewd was just driven, and ,for someone one who had already forsaken their humanity, more sacrifices were a mere drop in the bucket to him. Personally I think Ozen just doesn't like people ( she shows this with Liza alot), so she skewd the facts to make it seem like she was one of the better
Yeah Sjaro seems super helpful at the moment! I can't wait to find out more about her. And Bondrewed in a twisted way was a good person because he had to love every kid he turned into a cartridge for the blessing to work on him! He was just making the Thanos sacrifice for the stone every time he made another cartridge
This sounds cruel but i hope Liza is dead. Riko built her personality around her yearning to meet her mom. It's so sad. But that's how it is. We don't always get people back..i think she was lost long ago, and Riko will have to deal with that and embrace that she is her own person.
What do you think is at Netherworlds bottom? 🌑 I would love to hear your thoughts! 🤔

What I think is at the bottom of the Abyss:
Ok this is a long shot but partially informed by aesthetics and theme.
The earliest 'citizens' would be the animals that the proto-abyss could attract through artifacts like Zooaholic and who knows what else, then 'transforming' them through its various biotechs into the creatures of the abyss, but here's the thing, I need to go over hypothesis 2 to touch on this:
Hypothesis 2: Creatures that go through the transformation that Nanachi went through, as well as Reg and Sherumi and Menae exhibit a kind of trait adoption.
@@thebakery115why does the bottom passed the final maelstrom look like….teeth??!?!?
@@garrett691 Prushka came to Bondrewd's notice years after Lyza went on her last dive so your theory doesn't make much sense...
Idk, a lot can change to a person in ten years of just being in the Abyss.
I can see that
That’s better than her sacrificing Riko.
Nearly a year late but I wanted to say: it’s an interesting theory but then there’s the issue of the whole “point of no return” thing, like what is the point if they can never leave the Abyss? Unless that’s the whole point cos Riko was literally _made in the Abyss_ (born I mean), and she said things *from* the Abyss have a habit of *returning* to the Abyss, I think it’s meant to be a twist on the real world “Call of the Void” phenomenon but I guess we’ll see
Personally I do think Liz did send up the letter since Reg’s flashbacks do suggest a connection between them.
Honestly this is a great theory! Probably more likely than mine and I can't wait to find out what it is!
Guarantee Riko has no “soul” since she died at birth and ascended while getting revived by the artifact. So maybe Lyza needs riko to enter the 8th layer because you lose your soul when you enter, but since riko has no soul…
Just a thought
Souls are going to play a big part in a future chapter, I would be very surprised if it doesn't
Honestly I totally forgot about the whole Reg name thing! That's a great theory and I can't wait to find out the reason
"Why Reg wouldn’t have remembered or recognized Riko by the time he came too again on the surface?"
Answer is simple - Reg only had 1 charge of the "incinerator" by the time he left Faputa while going up to Orth and he saved Riko with it, losing memory. Notice how he was unconscious/inoperable for far more than 2h? This is it.
But I like your theory about Reg meeting little baby Riko. :)
@@subarusama5673 What I think might be shocking is that Reg used two shots of Incinerator
There's no way that Reg have eyeballed blindly and somehow hit the Crimson Splitjaw where Reg used his 'last' use of Incinerator by top of the tree, but wait? there's smoking rest coming out of the stone.

If bondrewd is already that twisted, can't even imagine how the rest will be like...
Psycho? Dramatic? Trickster?, Can't wait to see it!
Srajo is a tricktster, she tries tp get the neccesary using indirect questions or making the situation where characters will show their reaction and accidentally tell something important. It would be interesting to see her future actions.
To be fair, Bondrewd was kind nice in his own weird way. He just was entirely amoral about what he did to others.
Ozen represents strength, the strength to pursue the desire to dive into the abyss
Bondrewd represents progress and knowledge, the fierce desire to feed our curiosity.
Srajo represents cunning, if she is a trickerster - she might represent greed as she seems the most treasure-hunting-esque of them all
Wakuna represents guidance or wisdom, so maybe he is the will to live.. ? I assume his personal relic allows him to live an abnormally long time.
Lyza represents feroiousness, tentancity. She is curious with her title 'annihilator' I feel like of anyone, she may be keen to destroy the abyss or maybe all of humanity in service of the abyss? IDK
Riko.. well I'm not sure what she represents?
Honestly this comment is ageing well! Bondrewed in his own way was a good person haha
@@ChillingDusselgurr yup that faputa comment on rikos soul that its not normal something fishy about riko
When Ozen was saying she was the nicest white whistle, was she also counting Lyza?😳 Imagine if she actually becomes a villain tho
@@godzilla4191what if she is the main villain in the show, not bondrewd😐

The story will definitely go further down that hole. lol
What if it is connected to the cycle that is believed to occur every 2000 years
Adding to this theory is regs ascent itself.
I am just so curious about the story... reminds me Attack on titan, when the story and mysteries were also uncovered very slowly (altough I was a little bit dissapointed by the way story went...)
yeah especially with that one bell relic that can stop time or something, i feel like time travel is definitely a possibility.
such a good take actually
I think time travel/manipulation could be part of it and possibly the unheard bell could be the artifact that controls it!
That's a great theory I love that idea!
something everyone is forgetting is that riko doesn't have a soul since she was stillborn.
Me too! Just want to see the 7th later already!
After all the sacrifices made to save Rico, i doubt her mom would lure her to sacrifice her. Especially after that second season with the motherhood subject. I think she found something wonderful that she wants to share with her most precious person.
Aww that would be great after this dark hell hole, there is some light at the end of the tunnel!
Lyza breaches the 8th layer of the Abyss.
Ozen: "What did it cost you?"
Lyza: "Everything"
Haha thanos style great comparison!
I think also them having the life-reverberating stones, which are well people...
@@thebakery115 yeah but we lectors already saw this sacrifice. So it will be redubant for us anyway
Not sure on the sacrificing of her daughter but I think that it may be cause she was borne and revived in the abyss making her a artifact herself being the key to enter the final layer
She needs someone re-born to enter! Great idea
Really interesting. this is rlly underrated. keep up the good work.
100% agree
Considering that the letter was found where Reg lost his memories and that Reg has the same name as Rikos dog its highly likely the sender sent Reg with the letter and Lyzas white whistle. Not only is he the best choice for sending the letter up but you also need a way to get Riko down safely. It just fits.
As for your theory on why bring Riko it sounds too much like a rehash of the white whistle requirement imo.
Yeah you're probably right they wouldn't do the same thing twice... Reg's "mission" has a big role and I can't wait to find out what it is
With all the artifacts and ruins encountered throughout the Abyss, I wonder if the cause of the curse is some ancient device activated by this lost civilization which brought ruination to their home and twisted the very world around them.
That makes kind of sense. Like the 6th layer could have been a city that relied on the other layers to bring them resources since there is none on the layer and the city would provide basics technology to the other layers. So when that happened the city slowly died and the rest followed suite.
It's like gravity trying to suck you towards the centre without you leaving!
I am wondering...How do people know about the City of Gold...and where is it exactly bc there was 0 gold in the 6th layer
Could just be an old tale in the world?
Your right! I can't wait to find out who Wakuna is and what his goals are!
I personally don't think this theory will happen just by the fact that it sounds to me too similar to the concept of sacrificing yourself to make a white whistle for someone.
Yeah I'm beginning to agree with you!
personally i like this idea but i think maybe it would be the other way around cause you already have to have someone sacrifice them self for you to become a white whistle so maybe you have to sacrifice your self for someone else
He was aware that Haku it's important and possibly the use that Liza its planning (I presume that it's Liza's Haku bcs the two of them meet in the abyss)
But the thing is that reg it's not longer tied to the former reg and their plans, so the current reg will have to make a difficult choice, save riko from his mother, or cooperate whit Liza or the other "regs" that are in the bottom in whatever shit they're planning, that presumably it's a very important thing doe to the abyss transition into the next 2000 year era
Yeah the female Reg will be an interesting part to the story!
All I know is the heartbreak we will experience will be LEGENDARY
100% can't wait!
I think the bottom of the abyss is just an empty space, an uninteresting and unamazing pit that can never be escaped due to the immense pressure of the curse at that level.
That is a bold theory, but I had it in mind for a long time.
As did I! Can't wait to see the truth!
Im not like super up to date on lore but isnt riko like undead or something technically? Can she still lose her humanity and turn into a hollow? Is she technically like human??
Hmm your right she is technically a resurrected person, that could be possible!
I think the note is made out of regs skin
Omg you're right! It can't be torn!
@@jbear3478 lol
If it was his skin we would probably see a mark on him. However if there are other "Reg's" like the "girl-type" then a good chance it could be from their body!
srajo seems pretty chill though
So far she does surprisingly!
I just came up with a good name for Rikos sovereign title. The sovereign of persistence.
That's a great one!
Most certainly lyza will have a team, I theorise that Wakuna might be a solo traveller though from what's been said
Interesting theory on riko and her mother.
This is interesting and I wouldn't put it past made in abyss. It would be like a sacrificial heaven!
great theory bro, i love this anime sm
It's honestly so good! Thank you for watching!
Nice theory but I disagree. You already need to sacrifice someone who loves you to get to the sixth layer so they won't use that twice. If anything Riko could be the artifact needed to get to the 8th layer.
Yeah I think you're right! It wouldn't make sense to have the same sacrifice twice...
We have seen sarja in the vol 11 on made in abyss so it's most likely wakuna because he has relics like the great novel yet I am waiting for the 12th Volume due to amazon
It's all very exciting only a couple more white whistles to see!
Is lyza apprentice "leader" also a secret white whistle holder?
Not sure, first time I've seen a theory like that!
@@thebakery115 I read the manga and I think that guy has something special about him
I doubt that considering your already have to make a sacrifice of someone you love and loves you in return in order to get a white whistle.
I do think Reg wrote the note in order to not forget though.
I don't think I've heard that take yet! Reg maybe knew he had one shot left on the incinerator and wrote the note himself!
It’s possible that some humans are just immune to the curse. Therefore, they are “chosen”.
I've got a feeling like those without souls will have a big influence somehow!
I also believe there's 8th layer of the abyss and I would guess it would be 23,000-24,000 meters below sea level.
First video and I love the intro
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words!
Hmmm I feel like we're missing some key parts to your theory like where does Reg fit into this, but I feel like you are spot on about the sacrifice. I feel it may be the other way around though.
Yeah honestly could be the other way round. I am definitely missing big holes in the story there is just so much in made in abyss!
id say for layer 8 you have to sacrifice your own kin - but its for riko so SHE can explore it. lyza wants to sacrifice herself probably?
Possibly! She might want to sacrifice herself for her daughter to see it! (If it exists)
i’m thinking maybe it’s possible that she isn’t trying to sacrifice her daughter to get deeper into the abyss, but rather to return back up to the surface through the blessing?
Ooh that's interesting, she's realised it's all a mistake and found a way to get back! I like that one
tysm for this video ♥ i love made in ayss
It's honestly such a good show! I want to make more videos about it!
Part of me still suspects that Lyza is Riko in some weird time shenanigan way.
Or some shenanigans w with souls 🤔
I think that Lysa’s whistle is sacrificed by her lover ,as so as Riko’s father. So that is why we don’t saw him. And Ozen is practically hate Lysa’s husband, because he made her cry, or so I read it from somewhere.😅
She already had her white whistle when she met torka, also the identity of the whistle is confirmed in the manga
I think most likely her father is the whistle!
I think the eighth layer will be china
Haha
or maybe the msg wasn't for riko but reg who for some reason climbed at the top in search of something.
That's interesting, I reckon I got to look into Regs mission!
reg is also a robot and when he had his memory he could easily copy such handwriting
Honestly I'm starting to doubt that he is a robot. Yes I understand that they say it all through the show haha
Long time i didnt search for a made in abyss theory lol
I was thinking about Riko losing his humanity but layer 6 was about not losing your humanity, your souls and not lose who you are so i dont know
Maybe a sacrifice add with another thematic maybe a sacrifice of someone you hate or sacrifing yourself instead of another so its not that répétitive there plenty facettes of the same thematic
Yeah I think you're right!
I think the likely scenario is that you would still come out of the box as a narehate but like you were saying the box would keep you living!
You're totally right I want to look into souls more in this show!
ngl I thin that there is nothing at the bottom... it feels like with every layer it gets darker and more twisted with less good to show for it. almost like its trying to show why morbid curiosity for new knowledge isn't always a good thing
99% I think it will be something dark and horrible!
god knows, maybe since it's so deep, we'll get straight up lava and fried chil- i mean chicken.
@@RONIIAL Oh god! haha
i think this theory stays a theory ,its pretty unlikely that lyza whould do this. +its allready the way to get a white whistle
-it could be regs backstory that will tell us
-it could be wakuna that has written this letter
-it could be something that is down there with or without her mother as we dont know if she is still alive or is still the lyza she was as she went for her last dive
Haha yeah, probably just a theory! But got to at least get it out there
Have you not read the manga past the anime? ;)
I have now! It's getting so good!
Liza is her own daughter. She died and what was left of her was sent back in that box.
Interesting idea 🤔

8th Layer aka the Anus of the Abyss .. Imagine going all the way down there just to be pooped ~ 😂😂😂
Honestly at this point, that wouldn't surprise me 😅
well that took a dark turn 😀😀😀
As made in abyss always does!
Have you read the manga?
At the time of making this video, no. The rest of my videos are post reading the manga
@ Ah, Got it, Thanks for the reply.
Another mind blowing theory has dropped. Btw, what if the one that write the note is female aubade (explained in dark Reg theory)
What’s the dark Reg theory?
@@Vulpolox Watch in yt video "Theory of the abyss 1: dark reg"
I'll have to check it out!
my thought is that wakuna will either be the 2nd or third nicest behind lyza
Riko is the first
Ozen is the second
Maybe wakuna can be the 3nd one cuz his/her title is "The guidance" but theres chances that he/she can take ozen place
My thoughts are changing on the line up after reading the latest chapters!
Cool as hell ideas
Thank you, can't wait to find out the true answers!
Wouldn’t it be fun if you just pop out the other side of the world 😂 like it’s an abyss on both sides and the middle is absolute hell.
Haha I have seen theories like it! Could be another hole on the other side of the world and 7th layer is dead in the middle
Ozen is the "nicest". I could be a complete jerk yet jump into a fire to rescue an orphan or something, personality ≠ morality. And you doubted her reliability as an honest information giver, why trust that statement so blindly?
You have a good point! I could be totally overlooking that chance
My theory its that theres another reg, in fact we know its a girl similar to reg and she gave him the letter
Yep! I think this one is nearly confirmed at this point. She is usually referred to as the 'girl type', Reg being the 'boy type'
I think you might be on the right track but it will be Lyza sacrificing herself for Riko
Probably a 50/50 at this point haha
Isn't Wakuna female?
old man
Sjaro is the one that has been shown to be a female. Wakuna hasn't been shown yet but theorised to be an old man
@@plov638 Actually, that's not correct. The Japanese version (and the official English, too) never states their gender
just want to know if it was a mistake you calling Lyza's daughter Vueko, or it was a part of the theory I didnt catch. Awesome theory anyways!!
I just have bad pronunciation, the R's are difficult for me and there are so many in this anime! Haha
Well, that couldn't be the case. If you love someone that much, you could never harm them. It would be a cache 22.
Unless you love something else more or have a greater purpose like Thanos for the soul stone
So you're saying the final battle will be between mother and daughter... What about Reg and his purpose?
He definitely has a big part in it somehow not sure what though!
Thanks.
Your welcome!
Well, I think if you were to read the manga after the ending of season 2, you would get somewhat of a concrete answer, beside theories.
I've started reading it after this video was made, I'm going to have to read it again! Looks like souls will play a big role or lack of souls
Riko is patatas battery
Haha possibly!
Nice video dude!
what if there even is a 9th layer or a whole of 10 layers
We all know her mom evil and her dad was the way she was able to get a white whistle
Yeah most likely!
The way you say 'Riko' sounds like 'Vueko' another character from this anime, it's confusing.
Yeah I might have chosen one of the worst animes for my speech...
It is all just a theory but there is a chance she loves Riko however loves her curiosity and adventure to the bottom of the abyss even more!
I love this anime
It's so good! Can't wait to learn the truth!
Because the abyss has been discribed as/likened to hell My guess is there's 9 lairs paralleling dantes Inferno
Ooh that's an interesting thought that could be possible?
I have a theory that the Abyss is based on christian Hell, and so it might also have 9 layers in total.
I'm not too familiar with it. Might have to look into it.
I have heard the abyss is similar to Dante's inferno, is that the same thing?
@@thebakery115 oh, yes, that's what I meant actually. Dante's Inferno is his interpretation of the catholic hell from his poem "The Divine Comedy". Some layers of the Abyss are very similar to corresponding circles of the Inferno. For example, the fifth circle is a swampy river Styx and the sixth is an upper part of the City of Dis
@@theasura0v0 oh really?! Will definitely have to look into it then, thank you ☺️

Wait i thought Ozen was a good guy?
she was helpful from what i remember. what happened?
She was helpful and I probably would call her a 'good guy' although just because someone has good intentions doesn't mean they go about it the 'nicest' way
@thebakery115 that's 100% fair. She WAS kind of doing too much. But her heart was in the right place.
@thebakery115 the MiA lore is absolutely wild. I can't wait for the series to continue. How far has the manga gone should I just read that?
The manga is roughly a third of a season ahead I would say. Season 2 ends around chapter 60 and we are up to chapter 69. The artwork in the manga is absolutely beautiful though... Except for Akihito's fetish... Just have to look past it haha 🥲
@@thebakery115 uhh what's his fetish?
This is a dark and sad story so there is a good chance of that
Projection? I think after everything this poor child should be able to meet her mom. And i genuinely don’t think the anime would be THAT dark.
What manhwa is this?
