Snowshoes are required in the ADK High peaks throughout the entire winter season, even if you don't need to wear them you must carry them or you'll get ticketed by a ranger on sight, just a heads up( and nobody like people post-holing the trail...) . But the description says this was Mt.Washington so not sure what their laws are there.... either way nice climb and thanks for the upload
Ah no worries! Just giving a heads up, i learned 2 years ago from a park ranger that snowshoes are mandatory to carry in the ADK's in the winter even if theres not much snow on the trail so i try letting people know to avoid a ticket! Have a good one though :)
Mount Washington didn't require snowshoes, at least not on the Lion's Head winter route last year. The Tuckerman Ravine Approach Trail is groomed, the Lions Head proper is too steep/icy/rocky and we needed crampons the whole way. Above the treeline it's hard for snow to accumulated given the 100MPH winds the summit cone gets twice a week on average. One caveat. We were there late February after a heat wave and rain had hit the area so the snow conditions weren't heavy.
Looks amazing and tough at the same time!
Wow, that was brutal! cool
+Blase ForestCall thanks
