Great video. Ive done marcy and algonquin in the fall. I might take a crack at it in showshoes on 12/27. This video gave me me a good idea of what it's like.
You guys are alright! I just bought a few pairs of MSR shoes for the family. My boys and I are summer 46ers and now it's time to try some winter hikes. Thanks for posting this.
Great video, great idea putting two clips on the MSR front strap. I flipped mine over so you load it from the toe side, it helps, but having two in opposite directions would be even better.
I wish I could do this! (I’m only 12 but if I could drive and train for this I would totally do it. It doesn’t help when you live in flat old Indiana.)
Keep this as a goal! The Adirondacks High Peaks Region is a great area for hiking and adventures. Maybe one day you will find yourself exploring the endless mountains and trails there. In the mean time, explore and learn in your local parks such as Hoosier National Forest and Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge. Looks like a lot of great trails for you to explore. Visit www.alltrails.com/ to check out some of the local trails and parks around you.
@@Mountainpeakfitness I love Hoosier Nat’l forest. The only problem is my family hardly has enough time to hike. We hike when we’re on vacations, such as Olympic peninsula or Pisgah Nat’l forest in NC. We do use all trails a lot too. I’ve always dreamed about living life outdoors.
We stayed near the Loj the first night but also ventured up to Marcy Dam and stayed at one of the lean to's in that area. Either way works great. The Loj is nice because you can have a fire and make a really nice base camp to adventure out from.
Because we are sharing the trails with skiers, who have the ability to skin up and ski down...which is awesome. Snowshoes help keep the trails in good shape and avoids post holing that walking in just boots along with traction devices can cause. #happytrails
It was a perfect winter day and all of the rocks were completely covered by snow. Watch the video, it shows us snowshoeing all the way to the top. It was a beautiful day in the High Peaks.
We camped at the Wilderness Campground by Heart Lake and the ADK Loj. A very nice place to set up your base camp. They offer firewood and it is in walking distance to the trailheads leading into the High Peaks Wilderness. Are you planning on a winter camping trip? www.adk.org/stay/wilderness-campground-at-heart-lake/
Antonio Kontos in the ADK High Peaks Region you are required to wear snowshoes or skies from any trail head so as to not post hole along the way. Above tree line you can swap out to micro spikes or crampons as you make your way to the summit. This would also give you better traction at times because of the icier conditions and wind swept summits. Sometimes it is easier and saves time to just march to the top in snowshoes, such as we did in the video. Thanks for watching!
I call this place home, a few square miles of outdoor adventures throughout all four seasons. Thanks for promoting ADK and the gorgeous video.
Our pleasure! The ADK is our favorite place to adventure and to just chill at camp.
One of the most beautiful places in the entire world.
Definitely one of our favorite places to adventure in!

Loved this hike in summer, but it looks waaaay better in winter. The views in that eastern adk wilderness area are some of the finest ive ever seen.
Mountain Lust the High Peaks Region is such a great area, endless adventures to be had year round. Thanks for watching!
That is just terrific. Thanks for sharing that trip.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! This will be a destination this year!
Did you make it to Mount Marcy this year?
Wow how gorgeous. Well done.

Winter, mount marcy is also beautiful 😍
We agree!
Looks like a great day! Looking forward to doing the Great Range loop on a trip back there in September.
The Great Range Loop is awesome! We are looking to do the loop again as well in late July this year, around the time of the Whiteface Sky Races.

I just did Marcy Monday and can’t imagine doing it with snow and ice 😅 Maybe one day
Congrats on the summit! Marcy is awesome year round, such a different experience each season.
Great adventure! I would love to do this same type of trip sometime. What lean to did you all stay at the night before your summit?
Nvm, you had a fire so you must have just been at the loj. I was thinking you all backpacked out to a lean to the day before.

Why wear snow shoes when it's all hard packed?

@@Mountainpeakfitness thanks for the info👍

Yes we are planning a winter trip. Thanks for the link! Should we call ahead to reserve a spot?
Definitely call ahead. Unique times.
Could this be done with micro spikes ?

Thanks for the response.
Snowshoes unnecessary in 3 inches of snow
