    Brian, I’m a Vermonter and have skied (downhill and cross country) and done a lot of hiking and your system for layering is the BEST I have heard. Especially for something like winter high peaks which isn’t just a walk in the woods.
    The wool base layer with the insulated snow pants is a great idea. Love it. All your tips are useful. Thank you.😊

    Thank you so much for harping on winter safety and just how dangerous it can be up in the winter mountains. Super important information.

    Be bold! Start Cold!! Always 👍🏻
    Such a good point about using Garmin if alone. Another point to tie into that if especially if hiking alone, is have and stuck with a turn around time. Being alone in winter and hiking much past dark is just plain dangerous. I hike a lot solo (yes in winter) but I stick to my rules! Excellent points and I agree with them all

    Leaving the car freezing is such a great tip. I always over dress and a mile in I’m shedding layers. I need to work on this. Great video.

    Nice video! Love the intro. Good tips. I always size up my winter boots. I agree, 200g and Darn Tough is enough for me in pretty cold situations. Also, love the commercials. Well done one 1k!

      Rocky was horrified when I walked out of the bathroom in full gear and he didn’t recognize me. He looked at me so confused like who the hell is that. Tail tucked in between the legs and ran away. Lol Thanks man!! It was a goal of mine to hit 1000 before the end of the year and it was really special because I had worked so hard for it. It’s hard to get that many subscribers when all you’re posting is hiking videos. very small demographic. But putting out the gear videos helped throw me into a new wave.

    • @BrianHikesAllDay
      @BrianHikesAllDay  3 года назад +1

      Another thing that they can be used for. If you put a water bottle in a sock upside down to prevent it from freezing you can also put handwarmers against the bottle to keep your water warmer

    • @ekimpp
      @ekimpp 3 года назад +1

      I was going to ask you about that. One winter I was hiking in ADK in winter thinking collect water from lake or stream, I was wrong... everything was frozen. In winter you need to carry more water and how to carry so it won't freeze. I also carry thermo hot chocolate or spicy soup to warm my body. Thank you for taking us on your journey.

    • @BrianHikesAllDay
      @BrianHikesAllDay  3 года назад

      We carry most of our water in insulated Hydro flask bottles. But I also carry a 50 ounce smart water bottle as well and make sure to drink that before it freezes and then it doesn’t weigh anything. My Hydro flask 64 ounce weighs 2 pounds by itself empty

    • @BrianHikesAllDay
      @BrianHikesAllDay  3 года назад +1

      One other thing, I always carry a stove in the winter to so I can Melt Snow to make water

    • @ekimpp
      @ekimpp 3 года назад +1

      Stove is excellent idea! Emergency blanket always. For yourself or others who might need.

    Great stuff, man! I REALLY enjoy your videos and am hoping to tackle some of those peaks in the winter and summer. Have you ever heard of using Reflectix in your boots. I know you said your feet are warm (I LOVE my Oboz as well!), but cutting a piece of reflectix and putting it under your insole can give another edge to staying warm. I haven't tried it yet...
    Keep up the great work!

    Good job on the video. The things you repeated bear repeating. I stupidly wore an insulated jacket walking Spruce yesterday. I didn’t even have a hat on and my hair was soaked in sweat. Only saving grace is, that’s a short hike so being soaked wasn’t dangerous. Start cold!

    Great video. I would recommend if you continue to make videos in that room to get a brighter light. It looks like you're using an orange light bulb. I'd recommend an LED. I think it'll really increase the clarity of the video. Even in the highest quality rating it still looks a little fuzzy. Keep up the great work love in the content. I'm a new subscriber and will continue to watch your videos

      My current plan is that I’ve decided to discontinue my RUclips channel after three years. It takes too much time to edit any amount of time and effort I put into my channel for the little subscribers and views I get it’s just simply not worth my time

    Regarding the snowpants, have you ever had issues with difficulty lifting your legs (at least as high, as quickly, and as painlessly as normal) while wearing snowpants? This has always been an issue for me on winter hikes. I've tried to deal with it by not wearing snowpants (I'd wear just long johns under normal summer hiking pants), and while that sometimes works, it's not good for unbroken snow or for buttsliding. But the extra weight and constriction of snowpants has been tough for me. Have you experienced this issue, and do you have any suggestions?

    • @BrianHikesAllDay
      @BrianHikesAllDay  10 месяцев назад

      I’ve never experienced any issues and think they’re completely perfect

    Great video. I am starting the ADK this winter. I've hiked the Catskills and other mountains in winter but never the ADK. Going to hit as many as I can this winter and most likely solo. I am experienced and in good shape. Are the summits easy to find and trails clearly marked so I dont make wrong turns? Thanks

    • @BrianHikesAllDay
      @BrianHikesAllDay  3 года назад +1

      Definitely don’t recommend winter HIKINg The Adirondack solo but if you do have an inreach in case you get into emergency. The snow in the Adirondacks gets like 6 to 8 feet deep and if you fall in a spruce trap you might never get out. A lot of Trail signs and trail symbols get buried under deep snow so it’s really a hit or a mess if you’ll be able to follow Trail.

    One pair of socks with not even a liner would kill me, doesnt matter what boot, sloshing in and out of cold snow my feet freeze. Great video though, as someone who spends all of their time in The White Mountains, I agree lol

    Do you ever feel like after you get back to the car after a long day in freezing Temps, the warm up process is uncomfortable? I did street and nye a couple weeks ago in basically 10 degree temperature for 7 hours and after I got back to the car and started warming up I felt very odd. Mental fog, chills for a few hours etc. Maybe I had slight hypothermia 🤷‍♂️
