In my opinion, the only thing good to come out of this entire series was probably the last 'true' original monster that H.R. Giger was ever to make before his passing, in the form of Sil.
Unlike the "Alien", he was actually able to erotic female elements with his own disturbing 'biomechanical' workings. Its just sad that, after all the work he put into this creation, it was pretty much never used in favor of really bad CGI, even for its time.
The first movie also makes no sense: So we get a signal from aliens to provide us with an 'unlimited' source of energy in the form of methane? We already have that, its called "Cows" ^_^
Why not a formula on how to build a working 'cold fusion' plant, or a way to tap into 'Dark Matter' as energy. Even if that were the case, what scientist worth his PHDs would rush off to combine the DNA of human with the alien DNA template they got, without going through YEARS of testing first?

All the movies after the first one were crap, and I feel sorry for Natasha Henstridge, who's career was probably ruined by being contracted to appear in some way in 3 of them (although in the third is was only for about 10 minutes or so, I think ^_^)
I do and Natasha Henstridge is the Number 1 Best Woman to be as a Alien Species and there is no dout that nobody can not replace her not at all Y because I said so.
I was foolishly about to start to hate on this alien because of it's similarities with the xenomorph (which to me is sacred).Then the Mighty AcidGlow said "This alien was designed by H.R. Giger..." and he vaporized my ignorance into oblivion.

Never knew that Giger did the design for the Aliens in species, definitely see the resemblence. What they looked like in the comic you kept showing looked almost exactly like a xenomorph.

The creature's barbed tongue was originally used in Giger's initial Alien 3 designs... why not do a video on that? It had the potential to be the most disturbing Xenomorph incarnation ever.

I am so glad that someone did this. I don't remember if it was one of your vids or another Alien Historian but I asked if they could do one on Species as I love the biology of the Species. Hell for all we know it could be tied into the black goo.
I have the novelizations, they go into much finer detail than the movies. Eve, for instance, was nerfed so much for the movie (S2) in the novelization, she evolves to such a degree that her skin becomes bulletproof, and it's implied she can perform some kind of telekinetic burst (it's not described in detail)
There was alot of potential for these creatures. But sadly it was just killing and mating. Like what was the goal of the alien dna? Just kill and reproduce? It doesn't seem to have much self-preservation. But the hybrid in the 3rd movie touched a book and learned everything which was cool.
Yeah, I was hoping there'd be some appearance of the aliens which sent the signal. I always assumed they sent the alien dna as a weapon, something that would destroy any resistance on Earth before their colonists showed up.
My head cannon was if you see them as animals: primitive and feral. They are grown from DNA and born with no knowledge of the world they are in or the customs of the species they prey on for breeding and killing. Their level of intelligence seems grow sometimes from a watch and learn observation. But what I also believe the "messengers" are a race of Trolls the sends information that could ultimately end worlds for shits and giggles. Not much of a stretch from what I've seen of the movies. They give us the blueprint for creating life but not the blueprint of preserving it .
Thinks of this species as a deadly virus with learning capacity and rapid adaptability.

Ive only seen the first film but i always thought that maybe the original aliens that sent the instructions on making the hybrids are coming to earth maybe to invade or just say high. And Sil was gonna be a ambassador for humanity a hybrid of both races into one species. maybe to avoide any conflict they may encounter and with their own hybrid ambassador.

I really wish this franchise could be given a proper reboot because the potential of this concept is amazing because we could have a story similar to that of the Queen of Blades from StarCraft. If this Hybrid existed, could it choose to ignore it's alien instincts and choose to be human? Furthermore, what is it to be human? Does the concept of morality exist in the grand scheme of survival? Sadly, Species 2 had the opportunity with EVE but they wasted it so badly. Still I'm happy to have discovered this series.

There was a RPG released in 1996 based on the First Species film. It used studio notes, and deleted details. The RPG used the Masterbook System. World of Species the RPG.
I actual like the premise of the alien creature, I just wish it had a better story. Hollywood should work on writing good stories with strong character development, a plot that can be grounded in reality by eliminating as many plot holes and continuity errors as possible.
I prefer the origin story created for the Species RPG. The "Greys" sent the messages as a test of human intelligence. If we had chosen to focus on the unlimited power message, it would have shown we were evolving, instead we decided to screw around with alien DNA. Further exasperating the Greys, we continued to experiment with the alien DNA after the Sil incident.

Wow, that's one of the most brilliant simple explanations I've seen for the first movie backstory. Too bad they went the "a million years ago, aliens were on mars" route for the sequel.
I'm curious about what happens to the rat at the end of the first film that ate a piece of Sil and turned into a rat hyrbid.
Nothing. That hook is totally forgotten in the subsequent movies. I guess the rat died, just like any other hybrid.
Also there is still the tentacle. And as it was established you have to “kill it with fire” to kill the alien off.

Oh, by the way, would be great if you make a video about The Ghost Train nightmare that we see in the first Species. HR Giger wrote a scene for the train, and built himself a set for a nightmare sequence, but lazy direction and problems with MGM didn't allowed to film the full scene.

4 looked like it was trying to cross over with the crappy "From Dusk Til Dawn" sequels. They would have been better off trying to squeeze a short TV series out of 3.

Another possibility, just to consider, is that the aliens in the movie trilogy aren't the primary species, but a slave race created to remove obstacles and prepare for the host species arrival. That could be why it also came with designs for basically unlimited energy. Get the terrestrial species to start the frame work, while they're slowly corrupted and replaced from within. Then, when the host species does arrive (as it takes time to travel space, one would presume), it has a planet already filled with slaves and unlimited energy. Just a thought.

My theory is that on the planet Gigeria within Magellanic Galaxy, The Scorn people from the game created that alien species until they turned evil and there was a war between the scorn and their creations. The Scorn lost the war and they were exiled from their own planet leaving their creations as in The Matians took over the planet with Queen L'thiah as their Queen. Then one of the Queen's elite guard was searching for new planets to conquer so he went to the milky way galaxy and he discovered the scorn were colonizing on mars. He was killed by the scorn and The Queen sensed his death and discovered The Scorn's location and she and the rest of her army went to mars to fight The Scorn on Mars until The Scorn Leader The Scorn Mage unleashed a blue aura like shockwave that sent every Matian into a coma like state rendering them unconscious and The Scorn Mage buried them all underneath the surface Mars so there would be no trace of their existence and The Scorn left Mars and went to prehistoric earth and then The Mage used the last of his powers to create the first group of homo sapiens as in the first humans from different parts of the planet and all the scorn had bury themselves underneath earth so no one will ever know of their existence. Oh fun fact, that member of the queen's elite guard that I mentioned? He was killed by The Scorn and The Scorn Mage sent his dead corpse underneath mars for billions of years until Patrick Ross visited mars and took some sample of Mars crust not knowing that the guard's slimy self was hiding inside and with the queen's help via spirit and not her physical form, she melted one the samples and led him into infecting Patrick turning into him hours later and took over his body and corrupted his mind by causing Patrick to mate and kill the women when they gave birth to his children and fought Eve, Lennox, Luara and Gable later on at the ending of Species 2 until he died due to Gable's blood.

From what I get from the first movie experiment with "pure alien DNA", there are no "purebreed" for this alien. This whole thing is some sort of DNA weaponizing biological weapon.

I am glad you did a video on this. I always found this series interesting. The fourth is not that good, but the creature always had good potential and there was a lot of mystery surrounding the nature of those two signals that are talked about in the first film. Are these signals from the same species or two different ones and what is the purpose behind sending the formula to create an alien hybrid? It would be good if they created more graphic novels or even a crossover -like what AVP did- to tie it with Alien as Giger designed both and there are similarities between the two species.

I remember in the original species, that they said, " message... From an unknown source..." If it came through a black hole, to hide it's whereabouts, how did it come through a black hole when light, ( in this instance, radiowaves) cannot leave the event horizon? I thought that since black holes can rotate, maybe they bounced the signal off it's rotating scwartzchild radius so that it's event horizon couldn't absorb it. Just saying,🤔

This reminded me of the scene where David put some of that black goo on Charlie Holloway's drink. The guy mutated and went fully aggressive and also was unable to die after they burned him alive. Was there any possibility that he was turning into this Species Human Alien thing?

Thanks for this video! I love Species. The first movie had a lot of potential to be franchise, it had many interesting ideas and possibilities to explore, but then the sequel came with all that nonsense about Mars, psychic powers, and unlimited regenerative powers. The Species was clearly a virus sent by superior aliens to wipe out humanity. As much as I like Prometheus, the premise would had fit better with Species than with Alien.
The third movie is pure crap, but the last one was better, and despite the low butget was a better sequel than 2 and 3.
I don't really mind mars and psychic powers and unlimited regenerative powers in the species movies. But the execution was not very good.

Another possibility, just to consider, is that the aliens in the movie trilogy aren't the primary species, but a slave race created to remove obstacles and prepare for the host species arrival. That could be why it also came with designs for basically unlimited energy. Get the terrestrial species to start the frame work, while they're slowly corrupted and replaced from within. Then, when the host species does arrive (as it takes time to travel space, one would presume), it has a planet already filled with slaves and unlimited energy. Just a thought.

My theory is that on the planet Gigeria within Magellanic Galaxy, The Scorn people from the game created that alien species until they turned evil and there was a war between the scorn and their creations. The Scorn lost the war and they were exiled from their own planet leaving their creations as in The Matians took over the planet with Queen L'thiah as their Queen. Then one of the Queen's elite guard was searching for new planets to conquer so he went to the milky way galaxy and he discovered the scorn were colonizing on mars. He was killed by the scorn and The Queen sensed his death and discovered The Scorn's location and she and the rest of her army went to mars to fight The Scorn on Mars until The Scorn Leader The Scorn Mage unleashed a blue aura like shockwave that sent every Matian into a coma like state rendering them unconscious and The Scorn Mage buried them all underneath the surface Mars so there would be no trace of their existence and The Scorn left Mars and went to prehistoric earth and then The Mage used the last of his powers to create the first group of homo sapiens as in the first humans from different parts of the planet and all the scorn had bury themselves underneath earth so no one will ever know of their existence. Oh fun fact, that member of the queen's elite guard that I mentioned? He was killed by The Scorn and The Scorn Mage sent his dead corpse underneath mars for billions of years until Patrick Ross visited mars and took some sample of Mars crust not knowing that the guard's slimy self was hiding inside and with the queen's help via spirit and not her physical form, she melted one the samples and led him into infecting Patrick turning into him hours later and took over his body and corrupted his mind by causing Patrick to mate and kill the women when they gave birth to his children and fought Eve, Lennox, Luara and Gable later on at the ending of Species 2 until he died due to Gable's blood.

The first movie and original Sil design was superb. H R Giger was not satisfied with the movie ad the production didn’t use many of his ideas. The second movie was like “err?” We didn’t even see Sil(Eve) in her slien form much, the plot was a no no. The thirs one was absolutely rubbish. They didn’t use the original Sil design of Giger and instead the aliens looked like more mechanic with silly looking short thick necks and glowing eyes. I don’t even want to mention the last one. Species 4 was a disaster. What were those aliens, puppets? It looked like halloween costumes. So, while Hollywood made H R Giger’s Xenamorph designan A list celeb, they wasted his unique female Sil design. I wish Sil would have a great come back with a great production and special effects. Sensual but as vicious as Xenamorph. I think they owe this to Giger (Rip) and to us
