First and Last Porsche 928

  • This is a story about the very first Porsche 928 built and the very last Porsche 928 built. The interesting part of the story is that neither of these cars live in the Porsche museum! Crazy! I'd have thought Porsche would have held on to their first 928 considering it was the first clean sheet of paper design and was so unique! Also, the last one since it was the end of the line for the highly regarded 928.

    Great video, thanks for the story. I recently bought a 928GTS which unfortunately came with more issues than I expected and is currently being fixed. I am looking forward to driving it one of these days.

    Hi James, as an mega fanatic 928 enthusiast I love these landshark stories. Amazing this potentially last 928 was really the last in the end. Wonder how if the original customer knows this story too...think he will regret now. Good luck with your channel and 928 ownership!

      I am not sure if the original customer regrets letting it go, but Alexander told me that he had been in touch with the guy and let him know that it was in fact the very last 928!! Isn't that crazy?!

    I visited the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. I had booked a private tour. They set me up with a guy named Mineral. He is the best! We were about to pass the 928GTS that they had on display, (we didn't have enough time to go over every car) and I said "Wait! That is one of my favorite cars of all time!" He asked if I'd ever driven one. I said no. He asked if I'd ever sat in one. I said no. He said,"Well, get in!" I said, "What!?! This is a Museum piece!!!" He took my phone and said it was ok and took pictures of me in it!!! I will never forget that moment!!!

      I went to the old Porsche museum back in 2000. It was really cool, but much much smaller than the amazing place they have now. I am jealous of your trip and experience! I wish they would have had that GTS out when I was there in 2000! You are a lucky guy!

      John, thank you so much for the kind compliment! It is most appreciated and why I keep doing these videos!! Almost every car has a story. Some are more compelling than others and some stories are hard to get at, but I like to try and find the good stories to tell!

      Thanks so much for watching! I highly recommend the 928! Get one if you can! Any of them really! I love the earliest and the latest best I think. Purity of the early cars and the ultimate iteration of the GT car with the GTS! I have had the S4 the longest though and I absolutely love it too!

      Nothing going on with my cars right now. Just driving them when the weather is good. I hope to be doing serious restoration type work on my '93 before the end of the year. I will certainly share that here when I get to it! The '92 and '88 need a T-belt and AC work but other wise all is status quo here.

    Hi James
    As the VIN numbers are listed separately for USA and RoW, how did you manage to establish the last USA GTS was manufactured after the last RoW GTS?

    • @pcar928fan
      @pcar928fan  Год назад

      Andrew, you would have to check with Alexander about that! As the owner of #77 he engaged in an in depth search of the records and figured it out himself! Sorry I can’t be of more help!

      @@pcar928fan Thanks for the reply James. There is a Midnight blue GTS manual in the Porsche museum, I’m guessing that could be last RoW 928. Enjoyed your video.

      @@andrewbrierley9717 yes, that is the one that I had always thought was the very last GTS, but Alexander has been able to confirm that in fact his was completed after that one.

    Great video mate. In the 90's I was a Porsche salesman in London, UK. We had a gorgeous GTS in the showroom, must have sat there for 18 months. £84k and absolutely nobody gave it a second look, 993 was the only thing of interest for people with that money, such a shame. We ended up registering it as a demonstrator - enabling a £20k bonus from PCGB in order that we could get out of it 6 months later for low 60's. Those 6 months were an absolute blast!
