- Monster Pitts Python (85%) flown at Wings & Wheels 2013. Engine loses power and ends the routine early but brought down safely with limited power. This model is the largest radio controlled aircraft in the UK, maybe in Europe, weighing in at 138 Kg, just under the maximum limit as defined by the CAA of 150Kg. The Pitts is scratch built, that means plans, design, construction and materials are all created by the builder to emulate the full size aircraft and it took Greg 5 years to complete this 7/8th scale biplane. The engine is manufactured by Hirth and is usually mounted in man carrying micro light aircraft. 650 cc flat twin with a 63 inch 3 blade propellor.

Once you start building R/C planes that big then you're better off building it full scale, getting your pilots licence and flying the thing from inside it
Maybe they do that too. Well I hope so.
My thoughts Exactly.
Exactly, i just said that too
Exactly.... 👍 great airplane to fly! 👍👍👍
These rc planes would be great for military personnel who fly their drones
YOU DESERVE THE GOLD MEDAL 🥇 FOR MODELERING AND PERFORMANCE, WONDERFUL, GREAT 👍 JOB!!!
do u think it would take off with a kid tied down to it
Lmaooo
exactly what i thought. Or a cat, or a dog
I'll offer one of mine for testing purposes. Address? I'll mail him.
Let's find out
spunkflunk yes,
Beautiful BIPE . VERY NICE JOB . My compliments to the builder
I've never heard of a "Python" in the Pitts family but, this is one Fine aircraft. A great job piloting. Very realistic!
Its so big. Just get in and fly
Lol
Flying Cow Its blocked to fly it in the cockpit
Piggymccool Hi really? Thanks for informing us I really didn't see that
I bet a small person could fly in it?
That's what she said ...
LOL, camera person loses sight of one of the biggest model airplanes in the world!!
You can fit a short person in their with the remote control. Viola you got yourself an airplane.
That is really nice, engine sounds too high pitched but it works nice. Good job 👍👍
The guy has a passion for building and RC, that's why he did it. Building a large RC model is a lot less complex than building something that carries a pilot. As for cost, buying a full size Pitts would probably 20+ times more than the cost of this RC model.
I know people love the RC sport, but this much effort calls for light aircraft with a human pilot.
+D. Paul Riderman The size actually is too great. 15% more and you can get in and fly it. It is hardly a model
+Adrian Larkins Probably can get on it the size it is and attempt to fly on it, if one don't fall off in doing so.
+Adrian Larkins Almost big enough to get in NOW if your small enough
There are smaller _real_ planes than this... like the SD1 Minisport, or the CriCri. There are even some smaller _real_ jets, like the Bede BD2. This thing is just overkill.
If I were to spend this much money building a plane of this size, I'd expect it to be literally pilotable. Some people have too much money.
except that in a real aircraft, you often need a pilot's license (the US is unique with it's ultraight category, most other ultralight categories around the world still need licenses), which makes this still more affordable. Also, if it DOES crash, you don't go down with it.
Wow. Haha, if the owner has small boys, I'd be counting them before this thing took off...
I'm glad to see it's an actual "giant" RC plane. Usually the poster does tricks with perspectives.
Impressive Pitts, though a bit underpowered. And I much prefer a clear canopy and pilot figure.
Nice RC. About the size of a baby lakes with 65hp. Lot of work for something you don't get to fly from the cockpit.
Is it just me or is this model way under powered sounds like a ryobi weedeater needs a moki radial
It flies the way he intended. I think the engine was from a microlight.
650cc 65hp is plenty it sounds that way because it's a 2cycle, there are ultralight planes people fly in with less hp,notice the short take off and loops,if it's under powered it couldn't do that
It is amd it is low wing loading too which means engine is way too small. I used to install 1.0 cu in on a .40 size airplane
Or he might have a low pitch prop
@@EssentialRC he just probably has low pitch prop for aerobatics
138 kg = 304 Lbs.
It's 310 lbs and the cameraman had one job thank you.
+Claude “Reviews4U” Rains Thanks. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
+Claude “Reviews4U” Rains you're 6lb over, jettison, jettison.
Great job on the Pitts. Guess we're lucky these guys weren't big fans of the 747.
Sick scratch build my friend!!!
What a huge flying toy, great job guys love thiis.
what's the point in having such juggernaut like this? this size of aircraft should be flown in, not remotely controled...
El Fueda Constructing something that would carry a pilot or passenger safely is different ball game El. It's all about the achievement of engineering something of this size that flies just like the full size.
Essential RC i understand there's plenty of extra safety measures for manned aircraft, but the reward for the extra step seems so much greater!
El Fueda From my perspective unmanned aircraft of this size is a much greater achievement, that pushing us a little bit forward towards the future of autonomous vehicles.
Makes you wonder what's under that grey canopy ;-)
What the remote aircraft can do and its performance are probably much more then if it was maned. There is more then legal limitations once you have a person in side. It weighs less and can pull more Gs if its unmanned.
That´s what I call I genius RC model!
Scratch built on a budget over a long period...so yes, fairly impressive. Some think it's not great because of the relatively low power mico-light engine that he used but it flies scale well enough. No reason why it should have to 3D. Quite an achievement I think.
Beautiful!! Common beginner mistakes - make it small, so it's cheap, and make a simple design, so it's easy to build. You've just built something almost impossible to fly. The right way, start with a design that works, either another model or a real aircraft. Don't make it ultra simple and shoddy, build it like you were going to ride in it. And build it big enough that you nearly could ride in it. Which is easier to balance on you hand, a broomstick, or a walking stick, or 30cm ruler? How about a toothpick or a match? This is not a beginner project, it's an expert toy, but I'll bet you, it'd be easy to fly and heaps of fun.
5 Y/O me wanted to get in the cockpit and fly using the remote lol
Wow! That is beautiful. I would be terrified to fly that. If something went wrong the sentimental value would be too much to bear.
Amazing, was there today and saw it fly.Nice vid.
Who gave that guy a microphone?
Lol...'I'm lucky, I've got a lovely cup of tea' XD
Not sure what you mean. It is fixed framerate. I'm no expert so please explain and I'll do my best to help.
WOW!!!!!! GREAT JOB GUYS!!! Beautiful flight by the way!
That announcer is useless and funny at the same time!
you got that right...lol.
very good! big power! wht's the power of engine? for which factory?
Agreed re the commentator - tiresome!! Still a lovely plane build even if over-the-top for scale. Would sound great with a real radial engine. Major logistics getting it to the airfield!!
Very nice - well done. But why is bigger always better?
Wow!
He must love this plane!
Wonder if it could be used as an ultralight or even a LSA
The question should really be, when is a RC plane no longer a RC plane lol. Kids would love to take a ride on that :-)
Great looking plane, and flying.
How does one Transport this plane? i have problems getting my 170cc 3.1 meter su-26 around..much less this beast!
You fly it :>
He most likely has a trailer on his car.
I spoke to him at cosford 2012 and he has a stipped out caravan with doors on the back
I would have just sold some more lemonade or cookies and add on the extra 15% for full scale.....just saying, Nice plane though.
I've never heard a more annoying announcer. Let that thing fly and turn off his mic next time!
Wicked plane that looks so fun to control
Lol..yep...'I think I'm very lucky, I've got a lovely cup of tea'..well thank you for letting the world know that, you've made it a better place...lol
It’s a MODEL aircraft Bob.
Does the FFA have size restrictions on RC types?
John M. McDonald FAA in the UK? Yes. The Large Model Association runs a scheme to review and approve models that are over 20kg.
Seems kind of slow? Must be under powered? The pitts I see at airshows fly way faster.
kell490 Westlake engine if I recall correctly. Agree, could do with more power but engines don't come cheap and hey...it is a model.
Essential RC I agree but an aircraft that size I bet a VW engine would work they don't require a gear reduction.
Would it take the weight of an average person, and then fly. Why is the cockpit blocked off.
650cc motor? for a model airplane? Are you kidding me? Yes,you couls put a small person in it.
Sounds like a big 2stroke scooter.
Great plane.
only 15% more needed!! That was amazing
Wow that's amazing!!!!!!!!GRACIAS
With that big of scale, that sucker needs a radial! Not 2-stroke noise! Valach makes a perfect one for this bird.
Wow, beautiful plane.
villa teng Thanks for your comment Villa. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Instead of internal combustion engine ,would,nt it be cleaner with a really big rubber band?
Honest question, please don't get mad: Can this hold a person?, at least in terms of weight?
BassForever44 Yes. Fairly sure I heard the engine was from a microlight.
How hard was the 15%?
*Fantastic!!! 👍👍👍👏👏👏👍👍👍✈✈✈*
thats not an rc plane, thats just a plane
No its an rc
Basically the same size as the Baby Great Lakes (NON-R/C 13' length, 16' wingspan) my ol' man and I built in the garage in the early '70s, in barely over a year, when my father was head of U.S. Army helicopter gunnery instruction... definitely a full-time job (the gunnery instruction AND the aircraft construction; in fact my father ended up in the hospital for an overnight(?) stay due to exhaustion).
Built from prints only, no kit... just raw materials. 4130 tubing, Sitka spruce, Dacron... it seemed like each wing rib was made of 50 pieces of wood, counting the gussets : )
I still have a pic of us running a wingless engine test in the front yard (neighbors thought we were CRAZY!), and it looks EXACTLY the same scale as this R/C.
Yep, when you build an R/C this big, I have to ask: "Whatsamatta you? Skeered of heights?" : )
ruclips.net/video/suzpsql0rEY/видео.html
Mega geil diese grosse , und noch schwer zu steuern, der Seitenwand muss berechnet werden.
Aber sonst ein tolles Teil.
Gruß
Dxxdet0.
Beautiful bird.
FANTASTIC !!! 👏👏👏
Puede llevar a una persona de 50 kilos ?
How do you get rc planes.
3:17 need to focus better
+Jerrid1973 Autofocus doesn't always adjust quickly enough when I'm zooming but it's not bad. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
very nice plane and dam is that thing big
85% of the original size. Unbelieveable!
Now offering rides for small kids?
+waterchildtera The pilot would get locked up and they would throw away the key if he did ! Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Who will build the first rc- model which is bigger than the original?
Yeah, not heard of anyone doing that! Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
how much was this plane?
There's smaller planes flown by pilots sitting inside of them, Cri Cri and SD1-Minisport for example.
nice pitts, love that plane since I started with RC airplans.
can you render the movie with fixing framerate again and share, please?
wow man thats big for an rc model plane, nearly a full sized rc plane
+Glenn Jordan The original Pitts biplane was actually this big! Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
oh right ok :)
Sounds & looks like a 2 stroke ?
It uses a microlight engine. The most cost effective way to power a model of that size. Radial engines or similar would cost 10s of thousands of pounds. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
What Motor ?
I like how the announcer calls a perfect three point landing before the three point landing which never happened! Perhaps he misspoke and meant a three bounce landing.
So much effort for such an uninteresting plane!
You're right, it's sounds like a flying Trabant 601. However, it looks good in the air, would certainly be amazing with a radial model engine in front. But then the cost would probably double.
i wonder what a setup like that costs
What the fuck!! Why not just fit a seat to it n get in!! I fly rc but an 85% model is just daft
I like the big stuff. The trouble is that in general you are either a good builder or a good flyer its rare to see these special models flown nicely.
I have seen newbies do better 4 point rolls and it looks like the aileron diffencial is a bit out of joint too.
Surely you need some form of qualiy to fly that?
Youd have thought so Paul. Something that large I cant really see the point in. Cos its actually big enough to get in and fly properly!
Couldn't agree more. I respect the engineering and building that went into it, but a model that size is ridiculous.
Who knows.. Maybe he flies real deal as well.. And this is just his big boy toy!
Hey mate
Do you happen to know who has the World Record for the largest scale radio controlled plane , as your one is epic.
***** I did recently see a full scale biplane converted to RC. Will try and find the details but...you can't go bigger than that I guess.
Essential RC maybe not technically RC since it was autonomous but there was this...www.hiller.org/condor.shtml which is an amazing thing especially considering when it flew. No sure if it's the biggest but with a wingspan greater than a 747 it is certainly on the large side. Less fun than this Pitts which is also amazing. Thanks for sharing the video.
Put some clear plexi with a dummy pilot inside.(to bad about the 2 cycle snowmobile
sound).
Very beautiful
Rotax engine?
This plane has the scooter engine
Quite larger than a scooter, actually. It’s supposedly a 670cc engine
@@andrewrichardson3135 off ok
Very cool!! Congratulation!!
Tks your job.
B.R.
Engine sound shold be trimmed to sound like original engine. It is easy task with right exhaust pipe system.
great looking model .. ;)
Yup. 3 years to build and a lot of attention to detail. Super impressive. Cheers.
Essential RC Impressive indeed.. Great work.. :)
The plane is obviously big enough for a small passenger. I would love to see someone stick the kid in the cockpit and fly it then.
Suspect they would get arrested very soon afterwards though! I remember the next day he had a deadstick and hard landing which bent the landing gear. Any kid would have left a puddle in the cockpit if they had to endure that.
Wait, would you need a pilot’s license to get in and fly as long as you use the remote?
The aircraft would have to be certified as safe for carrying passengers...and he would need a pilots licence.
@@EssentialRC Ah, ok
I mean zoom out at 3:17
0:20, good way to lose an arm. Thank god he didn't trust the other guy with the jumper cables. I've seen it all. Did they have to submit a flight plan, and, are they equip with a 'black box'...
when is it a model?????
+Mike Secondo When it is not designed or built to carry a pilot or passengers I would guess. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
yes your right i can not fly a rc aircraft .as your not in it at 500 ft you can not see what it is doing .see the speed see the roll . see the pich .but if your in an aircraft you can see all of this and it is ease . but as for rc aircraft .well they are very hard to fly i think if i had one i think i will have PFV on her by the way what cc is the engine
I honestly couldn’t tell it was not a real plane!
Why not build a bigger scale of such a small airplane? Why not 2:1-scale (double size) ?
The commentator was the best part!! Hilarious
There are planes in the sky with the same engine and two real seats in it.
That's more like an ultra light. Slightly longer wing span and off you go.
My son weighs 60lb and wants to know if it will fly with him inside?????
Definitely would! It is powered by an engine from a microlight. Put a seat in this and it could carry a passenger BUT it's not certified to do that obviously. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
ditch the radio and get in the sum-bitch and fly it! damn!
Make it a bit bigger and you can fly your self in it >>>>
why not just go full scale and fly the thing?
