Vedder was backup, Cornell was lead. Cornell was singing the song, and Eddie was waiting for Mookie Blaylock (Pearl Jam)'s turn to practice or record or something. He just jumped in and sang backup, and it was an instant hit.
Cornell's the best. Scream just show's his versatility. My 9 year old want's to hear it every time we're in the car. Not Hanna Montana, not Jonas Brothers. He want's to hear Chris Cornell! Scream reaches across generations... thank god for me:)
I saw these cowboys in the early 90's in Brissy, and I can honestly say that Cornell has not lost anything.....can't lose much with a vocal range like that!
one of the best singers of all time...the best on 90's rock music [grunge]..he is on top 4 vocalist of all time 4 me: 1]bruce dickison 2]Freddy Mercury 3]chester Bennington 4]Chris Cornell
He is the god of vocals and song writing... so glad i live in this time where i get to see and hear all his music live and as he is still singing, writing and growing in his talent... love you Chris. Thank you for living out your purpose in life.... much love and respect, always.
I wonder if he realizes that he is a legend. he so so stinkin cool and humble, it seems like he just doesn't understand. LOLOL I mean, his voice is unmatched and his music is timeless. I don't think he knows...
You should chk out the guitarist in this band . Pete Thorn YT chn, on his passing & some stories about em how nice he was it really moving & from the guy who set up his studio & showed Chris how to use the gear..
i just saw him yesterday in concert. to any of the tards that say he is losing his voice, they are dead wrong! the guy rocked nonstop for almost 3 hours. his voice sounded great.
yea TOTD was fuckin awesome and amazing and so is LP LP is just a different style with different sound and a different band so the 2 are non comparable anyway!
Temple of the Dog wasn't a band as much as it was Chris' project and he wrote the track so he's really doing Chris Cornell's Hunger Strike, as much or more than Temple of the Dog's Hunger Strike
To reply to your question, unlikely. He is a very gifted singer very adept at transitioning from his chest voice to his head voice and still remaining powerful. I can hit the same notes but I don't have the raspy edge. He's an incredible Rock vocalist
Its a reference to those in power living off of those working and living in poverty, I don't think it was intended to specifically address any one person/situation.
Awesome. This is a new recording, that is not Dave Grohl. This is his touring band for his most recent album. Best show I've seen, House of Blues Cleveland.
Yeah that comment; cant wail at high pitches like he used to, got me thinkin' . thats prob. true. I went to a show last year, but I dont recall he played songs from that era. I mean the latest Soundgarden Cds, are different songs without that kind of singing. But for me :(dont matter if you like the song or not!) just listen to that Bond song: you know my name. thats a killer voice right there.
Nah. He sings just fine. A lot of singers can't/won't hit the high notes with constant touring etc. But for an album they'll do it right. I submit, Robert Plant, and Freddie Mercury as evidence.
He doesn't even reach for the highest note (around 3:30) ... but this is still a pretty awesome rendition of the song. Cornell will always be a musical legend, even if the "Timbaland years" will come back to haunt him some day ... Kind of like George Clooney's stint in Batman ... just a bad, bad, bad idea.
His singing voice is still great, but that accusation about Soundgarden being the source is totally unfounded. The source is that he can't wail at high pitches like he used to. And I can understand why. Touring for years screaming every night and aging will do that to you. Not his fault, and I commend him for doing all he did for the band, for the fans, and the music industry.
Yeah his voice got too strained by the year 1997. He'll never be able to hit those notes ever again, sadly. But considering he was able to do that every night for a whole decade ('87-'97) that's pretty impressive.
Ok he can't hit the notes he could back in the 90's but he's 46 people voices change when they get older, he's still a great singer I personally think the raspy voice sounds cool
I think it's very hard to keep up screaming in the songs you sing after so many years...I mean they were together in 1990. Um, I think that's almost 20 years. I think he did a good job for Eddie's part considering his unique style.
I actually don't think Chris pulls off Eddie's part. I mean, his own part he does awesome for, and Eddie couldn't do Chris's but the same accounts either way. Chris was way better in the early 90s than now in my view, though I still love him, but maybe with his hair went a little of his voice...
all the guys from dominican republic. we remenber this song from the 90s .thanks chris cornell for give to us your voice.
Vedder was backup, Cornell was lead. Cornell was singing the song, and Eddie was waiting for Mookie Blaylock (Pearl Jam)'s turn to practice or record or something. He just jumped in and sang backup, and it was an instant hit.

This song reminds me of times that i thought were difficult, but i miss them :(
Man this due is the real thing..so hot so talented and his song writing blows ne the f*** away..Im very grateful for this music...
yeah I agree, I have seen this cowboy in Brissy in the mid 90's with soundgarden and I can tell u now his voice is as good as ever. Go cornell
I saw these cowboys in the early 90's in Brissy, and I can honestly say that Cornell has not lost anything.....can't lose much with a vocal range like that!
We need a Soundgarden or Temple of the Dog reunion tour right now! Matt, you´ve got the answer.
Love´s Cornell and love his voice...
thanks and 100000 thanks for posting this!! his voice is the best that GRUNGE could ever had.. one of a kind
The best rock singer ever!
This song never gets old-Chris is just amazing..."Songbook" is the best album I have heard in a long time!!!!
yer kid rocks!!!!!! and so do you for getting him into cornell, keep on rockin
I recently just fell in love with this song!
one of the best singers of all time...the best on 90's rock music [grunge]..he is on top 4 vocalist of all time 4 me: 1]bruce dickison
2]Freddy Mercury
3]chester Bennington

Love Chris's voice. Soothing.
Chris, dammit I miss you my friend on Tube!

wow...so he had still his voice!!!!
We love you, Chris
Oh man this is amazing...Chris cornell = fucking awesome. Love the emotion in the high parts.
Goodbye my Friend. I love you so much.
I'd pay money to hear Chris Cornell sing the phone book...
The power went out in the studio from the final belt... it couldnt have been avoided
Impresionante !!!
5/5
I can't imagine how awsum it would b to b in a room jamming with them look at how into the song they are! Awsum just awsum!
the best .. chris simply rocks!!!
This is incredible.
@jgatorful
you underestimate Chris Cornell, he is possibly one of the best vocalists ever.
yeah , I agree with that KoRn.. I think alot of us miss that stuff ya know...
Still sounds pretty f**kin good to me after all these years!
Awesome!!!!!!
Amazing.
amazing vocal range
i just saw him yesterday in concert. to any of the tards that say he is losing his voice, they are dead wrong! the guy rocked nonstop for almost 3 hours. his voice sounded great.
yea TOTD was fuckin awesome and amazing and so is LP
LP is just a different style with different sound and a different band
so the 2 are non comparable anyway!
The man.
Temple of the Dog wasn't a band as much as it was Chris' project and he wrote the track so he's really doing Chris Cornell's Hunger Strike, as much or more than Temple of the Dog's Hunger Strike
great message wish more believed this can't feed on the powerless deep
does chris put that voice on or is he just a god?
fuckin awesome, this is how music should be. straight raw live recording. doesent get much better.
I concur!
nice and raw! he only just hits the high notes sometimes but i love it. Sounds awesome when you know hes trying
Love it
To reply to your question, unlikely. He is a very gifted singer very adept at transitioning from his chest voice to his head voice and still remaining powerful. I can hit the same notes but I don't have the raspy edge. He's an incredible Rock vocalist
Fuck fuckingly. His voice. Frotttthhhh.
this muthafucka is the man... not many are better than him
k maestro!
Its a reference to those in power living off of those working and living in poverty, I don't think it was intended to specifically address any one person/situation.
Someone should make a Documentary Video of Audioslave/Soundgarden/Chris Cornell and have Robert Downey Jr. play Chris C.
@pugggs I meant movie, sorry. The reason why I said RD Jr. is because I'm sure Chris has a lot going on with touring and the like.
haha I love how Chris Cornell's voice can fucking silence the actual musical instruments. Simply amazing/otherworldly.
Awesome. This is a new recording, that is not Dave Grohl. This is his touring band for his most recent album. Best show I've seen, House of Blues Cleveland.
agreed, but most of the ppl who talk about it say its worse, its not. And its mostly out of "being pissed"that Soundgarden is not together anymore.
WHAT !?! PREMATURE WITHDRAWALLLLLL !!!! gggggrrrrrrhhhhhh!!!
Yeah that comment; cant wail at high pitches like he used to, got me thinkin' . thats prob. true. I went to a show last year, but I dont recall he played songs from that era. I mean the latest Soundgarden Cds, are different songs without that kind of singing.
But for me :(dont matter if you like the song or not!) just listen to that Bond song: you know my name. thats a killer voice right there.
today he can hit some really high notes again.
DIVINE! but where is EDDIE??
Something about Chris' look here reminds me of that guy from the Home Improvement show..What's his name? Ty Pennington or something like that?
when my cup's already overfilled...:-)
Chris must be about 8 inches taller than RD Jr., it would be funny to see Robert in high heels like he did for Avengers
Nah. He sings just fine. A lot of singers can't/won't hit the high notes with constant touring etc. But for an album they'll do it right.
I submit, Robert Plant, and Freddie Mercury as evidence.
he hits that high note pretty effortlessly. chester bennington of linkin park is a good singer but u see him strain when he tried to sing that note
lucky random guy backin up the master voc
Eddie on the playback??... Maybe it is missing
Maybe Vedder couldn't make it to these sessions Oscar...
Maybe listen to what he is communicating. Chris had a beautiful voice. However, these lyrics are important. Wake up.
Chris cornell? more like COOL CORNELL
when was it recorded?
dont be so judgemental guys....just let the music talk for itself.
He's just an older man now. It's no mystery that the voice changes with age just as the body does.
His singing voice is still great, but that accusation about Soundgarden being the source is totally unfounded. The source is that he can't wail at high pitches like he used to. And I can understand why. Touring for years screaming every night and aging will do that to you. Not his fault, and I commend him for doing all he did for the band, for the fans, and the music industry.
i was comparing the singers and the vocalists not the bands
typo Karkiry: YOU think that his voice is not wat it used to be.
The drummer's work on this version is better. Kudos to the drummer.
Sin Eddie no es lo mismo!
Without Eddie, it's not the same!
@poopyscoopy5 i agree 1000000%. but those notes are really not that high. its his tone that is amazing not his range (in this case i mean)
Eddie who? [2]
the bass player is the bass player from dredge it looks like.
I think it's very hard to keep up screaming in the songs you sing after so many years...I mean they were together in 1990. Um, I think that's almost 20 years. I think he did a good job for Eddie's part considering his unique style.
he always sounds different live.
THE ONE AND ONLY CRISS CORNELL ...... THE DRUMMER WOULD BE BETTER HE NEEDS MORE PRACTICE WHE HE PLAYS ON THE CONCERT
I actually don't think Chris pulls off Eddie's part. I mean, his own part he does awesome for, and Eddie couldn't do Chris's but the same accounts either way. Chris was way better in the early 90s than now in my view, though I still love him, but maybe with his hair went a little of his voice...
um.. if it's a documentary, and chris is still alive, why not just use him. i think that would make a little more sense.
Chris Cornell blows Chester out of the water. Eddie is the man though
damnit... i was a little let down that he didnt hit that high note, kinda just swept it under the rug. oh chris.. i still love you though
1:37 Even Asian people know what a good song is...
say hi to eddie 😊😊😊
I know what you mean.
changed YES, but the comment was: not what it used to be, like worse.
I dont agree. half year ago in Amsterdam, he sounded fine to me.
umm that's not grohl is it?
1 chris dont care chris 2 eddie 2 plant too 3 mercury 4 bono and there are a lot more awesome singers but i like them the best
ok then
not energy or diction, impressive he can still hit those high notes now
I cant hear that. He has a family, hes got his band back together, his making tons of cash. No, I cant hear that at all.
it's missing eddie come on
