Now this is a shop that really pays attention to detail. Kudos.
This BB job changed the whole look of the bike!!! Out doing yourself on this video! Impressive!
Watching your videos is like watching your favourite box set for the 50th time. You know the outcome, what to expect, the level of attention to detail etc. However, by the end of the video you are still thinking that what just PURE CLASS!! And then look forward to watching the next time. Well done guys. Such a wonderful job!! 👍
I agree with you wholeheartedly. Pure Class.
I really like the idea of using a syringe for the grease.... Have ordered a set for myself.
We have the Cervelo S5 Rim Brake Version. Absolutely Rapid Bike, it's made me appreciate Rim Brakes and the simplicity of old carbon bikes.
Never ever had an issue.
Rim Brakes For The Win 🤙 🤙
Does your fork crown strike the frame?
Rim brakes are great until it rains or if you run carbon wheels. Most bikes should be on rim but for high performance bikes i prefer hydraulic disc.
Love your videos. You’ve become my Bob Ross of Bikes!!! ❤
Very nice job as always. Frankly, Shimano should be replacing every one of those cranksets.
This rusted bolts on top of head set give me goosebumps!!
I have an earlier S5, don't think it ever had one of those chainstay protectors on; thank goodness. They're lovely bikes though, even if BBright is a bit of an oddity. Great job as ever, bet your customer was pleased s/he brought it in to you. Cheers gents 👊
There are a lot of videos on RUclips where instead of showing the presented discussed item, they show themselves, they even cover the discussed item the entire video by showing themselves. Narcissism of the 2024 century. I rate your video 10/10 Bikespeeds perfect quality, perfect shots, perfect cuts, perfect editing and commentary.
Switching from watching car detailing videos to bike content like this!!
You did a splendid job on covering up the scuffs on the bottom bracket 👍
I watched another channel recently admit they don't inspect Shimano chain sets at all; they just return them, because bike / bike mechanic forums all say that's what they do. This was in the context of that channel / shop being outraged that they had been banned from the program.
Nice to hear someone say they inspect the chain sets for the "Inspection and return" program Shimano are running. To my way of thinking, this is a more professional way to approach communicating what you do, and why.
Good job here. You have music which is probably unnecessary but I am pleased to note its low volume is not competing with your voice over, great to hear.
The issue is, you can inspect it today, and say it passes. But then, a few months later it fails. This has happened many times with these Shimano cranksets. So as a bike shop, you are saying "I have deemed this part safe to ride, despite it having an extremely high failure rate.". But the part is not safe to ride as it could begin failing the day after the inspection. So your options as a bike mechanic are to either tell customers "it looks fine now, but it can fail at anytime lol" or just send it back without even bother to inspect it because YOU CANNOT GUARANTEE CUSTOMER SAFETY.
@@HristoMitev123 you sound as amateurish as the other youtube channel I am discussing.
You don't even have to say it passes. You can just say you saw no cracks / defects.
Or you could just not inspect it at all and return it.
But to tell the entire world you don't inspect cranks as part of the "Shimano inspect and possibly return cranks" program is silly at best.
To say you don't do it because "internet forum people don't inspect them either" is literally amateur hour.
In no way, shape or form are you saying "I have deemed this part safe to ride". Sounds like very lazy reasoning to me.
@@aarondcmedia9585 Hilarious that you're calling the other channel (I know which one you're referring to) amateur here when it's entirely Shimano that's at fault for this situation. If they had just done a complete recall for ALL of the cranks that might be affected by this, they wouldn't need to go through these inspections that don't seem to be particularly effective, and they'd fix everyone's problems immediately. But that's just Shimano being dicks, as they seem wont to do (see blacklisting another channel for refusing to not criticize their power meter, not allowing Hammerhead to communicate with DI2, etc).
@@LukeRichardson1981 if you're on an "inspect" program and tell the world you can't be bothered inspecting because "internet forum mechanics don't", you are the poster child of amateur.
Prove me wrong.
That'll be Mapdec!😂
First class service and detail. Always a pleasure to watch your service videos, just great to see attention to detail. Thanks for producing these videos
Terrific attention to detail. Amazing how loose many of the bolts were on this bike. 🚴 thanks gentlemen. Another priceless video.
Great job and very careful renovation of details! I wish I had a workshop that clean and organized. I suspect the saddle is too far back because of a screw not tight enough, that happens many times.
Great mechanical work displayed in a great format, as always. You're spoiling your regular audience 😂. Those bikes come out as good as new, and some (like this one) even better. Thanks for consistently being an inspiration 🚲
Hi Lee & Simon 👋 Stellar work again, chapeau gents 👏. The shaped piece of blue 'sticker'......brillianty simple, but so effective 👌
another terrific job, congrats !!!
I don't know about you, Lee, but seeing that breaker bar come out any time gives me the willies. Mind goes to all the ways it could go wrong... 😅
As always the difference you make from when the bike comes in to when it leaves is remarkable
Wonderful experience to see Cervelo is given the Second life.
Wow those decals make a huge difference. Mind boggling that such a small thing like that protector can effect and damage the key components. Excellent job 🎉
It would certainly affect the pedalling action.
Another fine service 🇫🇮😎 especially sorting that chain rub area.
Excellent work and detailed explanation, well done.
I´m off the grid for the next 20 minutes.... Thank you in advance Bikespeeds!
Superb job, inc. great freshen up of that BB area! 👌🏼👍🏼
If anyone thinks lining up tyre logos is ott, i line up rotor brand logos, i have the shimano or sram logo in a position you're reading it when valves are at either 12oclock or 6oclock depending in wheel brand logo orientation.
OCD is a real thing lol just playing
Always a pleasure watching you work
Great video, as always.. Those rusty stem bolts make me wonder what lurks beneath, though 😂
Magnificent, what a joy to watch, thank you
Fantastic service!
Great stuff, i bet its like riding a new bike.
Great job from Simon and co
That chainstay protector. 😆😆 I'm guessing the drivetrain engineers aren't talking to the frame design engineers.
Very enjoyable to watch this one, you did a fantastic job.👍
Amazing work
Always a fab watch bikespeeds
Another awesome job 👍
You always hope we enjoy your videos,do not hope,be SURE 😅❤
This video is soothing me as I swap tubeless tires 🥲
Bikespeeds can what Cervelo's engineers couldn't 🤣
OUTSTANDING!
Awesome one! On next S5 you should get the stem and headset removed and cleaned, they are notorious for being sweat dirt corrosion catcher
Waiting for the day you bring out a small cordless polisher like the car detailers use 😅
Every generation of S5 forks have swung round to contact frame , Einstein quote "The height of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over yet expecting a different result"
Not stupidity, insanity. The quote, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results," is often attributed to Albert Einstein, although there's no definitive proof that he actually said it.
Worth adding that the quote, when taken literally, doesn't apply to many situations, particularly when it comes to practice and skill-building. Repetition is a key part of learning and improving in many areas, like playing the violin, sports, or mastering any skill. In those cases, doing the same thing over and over can lead to better results as you refine your technique, develop muscle memory, and improve over time.
@@Mikolaj_u ok thanks , at least that shows i didn't look it up and was just pulling it from memory. Cheers
The newer iteration of the last rim brake S5 generation has been redesigned so that the fork crown no longer strikes the frame.
Newer models won’t strike the frame.
Love these videos. I was hoping to see the headset get fully serviced. It's a nightmare. I have done my own.
was it a full service if you didn't service the headset bearings?
That was a great video, thank you!
Was it a customer decision to not do the headset? 6/4 it’s like something from Mordor under those rusty bolts
I love your videos! It's kind of a meditation after a long day in the office.
Can you tell me which Bearings (Manufacturer and size) you used for replacing the bottom bracket?
Thank you so much and please go on like this 🎉
how people were commenting, there are reasons to worry, as they can fail easily just any time after the inspection.
In fact Shimano says to customers to do those inspections at home, before every ride? "Instruct the customer to continue using the crank and do similar pre-ride evaluations"
"Very, very", "really, really", "super, super", "big, big". 😁
real careful about what you say about the shimano crank inspection after mapdec got banned
It's a real shame how dickish Shimano is as a company.
ever had a Van Rysel bike in the shop? Would be interested to see one of them
Don't you worry about this bike's headset?
Its actually disgraceful from Shimano that they didn't just recall all of the cranksets even though they have a known manufacturing defect. You can't possibly know what is happening inside the bonded case (where the corrosion first starts) without having some reasonably significant ultrasound or x-ray imaging.
Beautiful
6:40 this made me laugh because madpec just said they got banned from shimano for not inspecting these damaged cranks
He didn't inspect them and send them to recall, that's why shimano banned him
Interesting topic, in fact Madpec don’t want to take responsibility for eventual damage or crash.
@bikespeed could you comment your view of your responsibility in this inspection?
@@cyclingchef3531He sent them to Shimano to inspect because he didn’t want to take on the liability. Which is the right thing to do, as if he says it’s fine and it breaks the next day he’s liable for it.
It’s nonsense there is even an inspection stage… they should just be recalled as they have a design fault. low end from shimano.
still remember him from those dumb comments he made about a guy talking about the dangers of tubeless tyres, but what he did here on the shimano cranks, props to him, shimano should have issued a full recall years and years ago.
How do your hands look so clean when handling all those grimy parts?! Do you hit the Swarfega between shots? Even with gloves, my hands and arns are a state after cleaning and servicing my bikes!! Lovely attention to detail though! Your videos are always great to watch and the narration is so clear and helpful.
I wore nitrile gloves when handling the grimy stuff. At most, I end up with sweaty hands.
By putting that rear derailleur just like that into the ultrasonic cleaner filled with degreaser you neatly removed all the crucial lubrication from both the upper and the lower knuckles. Both springs inside will rust and the pins will wear our.
Pay a professional to get professional service! Great job guys!
Another good video could you do a mountain bike one sometime 👍
Great vid (as always), i have a question though, how do you deal with saddle possition being set to far back on the rails? It is of course a possition issue but is riding like that safe (from the mechanic point of view)? Cheers
Basically a new bike and hopefully saved thousands of
Interested to know why didn’t you inspect / clean / lubricate the wheel bearings and headset?
What is the part number for that bottom bracket press/extractor ?!? Would love to upgrade my shop
It's a combination of BP0006 and EX0004 from Wheels Manufacturing.
Cool
As part of a service do you normally take out the seatpost to check it’s not seized and give it a clean and regrease?
It's subjective to the customer out on the road, but what PSI do you initially pump road bike tyres up to in the shop?
I don’t know about the stickers. Especially the white one. you will definitely see that in the sun when looking from the side
I didn't know S5 have mechanical version. I thought that bike only support electric groupset
Disk brakes, internal cable, pressfit bb makes me glad I don't wrench anymore
I do my own work. Partial internal routing (not at the headset) and disc brakes don't bother me, but I'd certainly not want a fully internally routed bike like this one, or a press fit BB. GIve me standard headsets and BSA threaded bottom brackets any day of the week.
Also what drives me crazy is the fact that the quickrelease throughaxels go in from the right side on the front and the left on the back :(
Wondering how much does a servicing like this cost? I may have missed this in the video. Thanks in advance anybody!
can you give me the link of your cleaning product it seem a good product to work with
S5 aero bike with a 30 mil of spacer.... 🤡
Nonetheless, those cut off sticker in the BB area is neatly made! Spotless job as always!
I hope whoever it was at Cervelo that came up with the rubber guard idea didn't get a Christmas bonus !
👍👍👍
Great video as usual guys have to say that is a really poor design you’ve highlighted there. Hope the buyer who bought this used got a great deal but at least he knew bringing the bike to you it would come back almost as new 😊
So first Colnagos have poor tolerances and Cervelos poor designs. How much are this things again?
Congrats in masking that bb area with a sticker, I couldn't even notice it at first. Cheff kiss.
Big fan of the channel but do yourself a favour and send the crank back and let Shimano fix their own mess. If that crank fails and causes an accident - you are liable from a moral point of view and potentially legally because you inspected it and said it was ok.
I never give a monkeys where my tyres logo is positioned ( puncher location is always at clock ⏰ reference to the valve. And dust caps are always binned.
puncture
Integrated cockpit bike... and you did not service the headset while it was stripped of its components? I think you missed a golden opportunity there. Especially with these suspiciously rusted stem bolts.
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Or just fail the crank and let Shimano fix their cock-up. What's to say they won't catastrophically fail and injure or kill the rider and then it's your balls on the line for damages.
Like they said, it's obvious when one is actually failing if you know what to look for. It would be wasteful to toss a good crank.
audio is terrible. What you should do is cut the low frequencies significantly at around 300hz all the way down to 20hz.
👏👏👏😍😍😍😍😍
No need to go into technical details why this is a bad design, this bike is the definition of ugly!
"Lovely" and cervelo are two words that don't go well together.
Yet here you are
I like the good work he does, to be fair :D
