Greetings, Mr. DeWees, and all others here -
I'm not one wont to spill my proverbial guts on a public forum, but I feel compelled to tell you that you're keeping me going... I take in The DeWees Directive every day, several times per day.
I love coaching... in anything. Big fan of coaching. I have $ 187.68 in my pocket and $ 78.61 in a PayPal account. No pressure, but You're it, buddy ! at least for the near future.
My home is in foreclosure. Its not pretty.
The only reason I have those few dollars I have right now, is because I have been listening to The DeWees Directive and doing what you recommend.
...and it's WORKING...
Its been a bumpy road, and it ain't over yet - but it IS working... Projects are coming in - and they're bringing money with them.
Someday in the foreseeable future, I might just have to take you to lunch.
It helps, Bill -
It helps A LOT.
Thanks -
Todd Van Linda
Not only does Roy have a great deep voice, but he is charismatic and has a nice relaxed style of speaking.
Thank you, that means I am 58 not too old. And I am still learning as always for a life time. Hallelluyah!!!
You now belong to a growing number of folks (myself included) who once had a radio career (along with a few others) and now on to something really fun! :-) All the best in your voice over career!
This was an excellent demonstration on how we can put our minds to our interests within and just be passionate enough to keep moving forward! I am so new at this myself, just set up home closet/studio in my place and I am waiting on my equipment to be delivered! I have been watching all that I can on your videos and have been learning so much! Thanks Bill! You are awesome!
I am inspired hearing this story. Today is the 1st book that I am going to read. I've been ask by my friend to do an audio book for a certain book that he personally made. Hopefully this will be the start of my career.
Thank You. Just what I wanted to hear. Worked in radio in the 70's. Had many careers. Now I am 59 and have to re-invent myself. VO work!. Just got started and looking forward to a great career.
Bill, Roy, this was awesome! I am encouraged. I've been trying to break into the industry for years. I've done a few things and have even been with two agencies. This video has inspired me to go full force into VO's! Thank you, again and best wishes to you both!
I LOVE Roy's voice. And such a great and inspirational story. Thank you both guys.
Roy and Bill this was a great story! Thank you for sharing your successes and keep up the outstanding work!
Excellent testimony! I really appreciate this!
Love this testimony!! God has also brought this opportunity to me - a Minister/Bible Teacher/Radio -- and now a Rookie to Voice Talent!! I appreciate your sharing your journey thus far in the VT world. I have landed my first 2 Voice over jobs..1 being an Audiobook that I just completed. Enjoying every moment..learning and seeing the opportunity open for me. TY !! Blessings
Congrats Roy! Great to see you putting Bill's advice to work for you.
Carl
of course he did he has that voice that makes the difference from most of us
Thanks Bill - so great to hear others successes and their journey in the VO world.
Also really enjoyed Roys inspiring words too - If I step out in faith God will bless me...
YES! This is great. Love Roy's story coming from ministry. Didn't realize you're from Chicago! hope to bump into you some day to pick your brain on all this.
It's a great story. I completely agree. I've recently moved, but hopefully at some point. :-)
Thanks for posting this Bill! Very inspiring as I begin this journey over the next few weeks.

A very blessed man. Roy I wish you so well in your voice over work. I'm still learning, my voice isn't as deep as yours but I would like to have some coaching, maybe when I have the money. Keep up the good work Roy.
Amazing nice voice, both of you!
Wow! What a voice!!!
Great interview!
And Roy, I saw another blurb video of you in some kind of studio and there was a Chris Tomlin, "Arriving" album plaque on the wall behind you. Where was that?
Saludos! Great pipes!
thanks I want to be a voice over also .wow pastor
Very inspiring! I speak Spanish with a Mexican accent and English with an American accent. I'm also very interested in missionary work. I see using VO work to fund that.
Great story; Any chance of hearing Roy's demo; the link posted on Roy's video says file is not available. Thanks
You need a podcast!
Bill, my name is Chuck... and of course I've been told I got a great voice but personally it's always been a goal of mine to do voice over work and so far i'm very impressed with your history in the industry....I'd like to learn as much as I can, key word Learn... when is your next swiminar? I look forward to communicating with you soon.....thanks
Bill, how long should a demo for audio book reading be? Should it be short and sharp like a James Patterson novel or deep and intricate like a Ludlum or Forsyth?
In the video it is said, that it is not just about the beautiful voice; it's about story-telling. So what makes a good story-teller?
Fritz Schneebauer I would assume imagination
Just imaginations? ... so what kind of imaginations make good or bad story-tellers? - Bad stories also have imaginations ... (bad ones ... *lol*)
Fritz Schneebauer no. It's not the story-telling. It's being able to capture the emotion in a story, and conveying that through your voice. Has nothing to do with imagination, it's more about empathy. Just my two cents.
I have LIFE Stories.
Mike: You don't really need to have money to get into VO industry, and you also don't need to have a deep or bedroom voice to do VO jobs. Matter of fact, high pitched voices are more preferred by ad agencies nowadays (no offense to Roy). Important thing is your words should be clear enough for the listeners to understand.
I hear audio distortion. Just saying.
The audio is terrible on this, irony at its finest. When bill talks he’s too quiet sitting off his mic and his mic is seriously messed up there’s tonnes of electric pops scratch’s and peaks every time he talks.. It’s grating. It’s all the way through but 6:37 to 6:44 is where I’d had enough of the scratchy peaks.
