"Dedicated to the memory of Monty Oum" No lie, there were times I was watching this that I had the thought: 'Man, this reminds me of some of the fight sequences in RWBY'; so I guess that tracks! Awesome video!
@@shieldgenerator7 yes - this is a prisoner transport to the Pinefalls mine complex. After all, capitalism runs on forced prison labour to terrifying extents, in this fictional future even more so than our current reality...
Awesome job choreographing the fight! Too often folks just default to bipedal movements when, it was really cool to see someone take full advantage of their natural range of motion.
There is something so satisfying about how well this is made. All of those little actions made to the beat. From Cannon kicking the hatch open to the train decoupling, everything goes so well with the music
If you'd like context, the comic this is a scene for is linked in the description! There's plenty more awesomeness there (and even some more animations!)
The only thing I can criticize is the lack of weight or inertia that the animation seems to have. but this is common in the industry anyway and pales in compare to the rest of the animation, great work and good luck improving!
on my most recent viewing of this animation i tried putting it to a different song, "Neo Tokyo" by Perturbator, and I was positively STUNNED at how well it fit. I assume its the same tempo, but all the drops in this completely different song came at the exact right moments in the animation. amazing how that happens
CaptainHoers in 3D? Count me in! Aside from how well your style works in low poly 3d, the camera and scenework is really top notch. Everything flows together very nicely even when it's a little hard to take in what each limb is doing, since they visually blend together sometimes. Watching it the first time I didn't appreciate the choreography as much because of that, then watching it again everything came together. I really can't wait to see what you do next if this is what you make as a first 3d animation.
Really enjoyed getting to see another chapter of Sunjackers, esp. in animated form in 3D no less! The low-poly models worked well for the cast, though I'm pretty partial to seeing Rusty in the third dimension--I'm a sucker for exosuits, alright? I can also see how you improved through the project too! P.S. Also, yes, I see that the Outer Wilds references will continue until morale improves at 2:38
Very nice work and I am glade that you managed to translate your 2d stuff into 3d so well. I hope this will make your job a lot easier. I hope to join you on that level soon if I can help it. Best of luck dude.
@@SilverScroll You're asking for something too narrow. "The same featureset", why would you want the same featureset? Tumblr doesn't have anything that other sites - not necessarily blog sites - don't do better or simply don't need. "Actually has a userbase?" All sites have a userbase, they may not necessarily be large, but they do have a userbase. There's also really nothing stopping a fanbase from following a comic wherever it goes except the fan's own thoughts about the site. There are many sites to choose from, I can't name many off the top of my head, but Tumblr isn't the only one, nor the best one. I'm personally only simply commenting on the comic being on Tumblr because I have a personal refusal to support any site that basically destroyed many artist's wellbeing and gutted their own userbase. I lost so many people I follow when the Tumblr exodus happened, and I simply hate the site as a result. Oh, also, tbf, there's nothing stopping the comic being posted on multiple sites at once instead of just on Tumblr. Wider audience, little downside.
Twitter (which is also imploding) simply does not support the format of the comic (generally photosets from 6-10 images), and a Wordpress blog - a format I had actually looked at before - would have a massive discoverability problem. On top of this, any change in host is going to come with an inertial cost, and multi-hosting multiplies the labour involved dramatically. Trust me, I've been looking into this problem for like six years now.
@@CaptainHoers What about art sites? Itaku is a blog-type site and sure it's got a significant NSFW audience but it is an option. As for multi-hosting, there are programs that could help with that, like Postybirb which allows for custom posting inputs. But fair enough, not trying to goad or push for it.
Interesting, I seemingly find them adorable more due to them being "ps1" models than for them being ponies In other words, more 3D please, it's really cute
There's a whole new dimension in this animation. Figuratively and literally!
I see what you make there....
Everyone's talking about the 3D, I'm more impressed by having quadrupedal animals fight in a way that looks convincing.
Awww, I love that you mention Monty in the credits. Idk Shane though. All this work done by one person is insane, great job!
Shane Newville was a friend of Monty's who also worked on RWBY!
@@CaptainHoers this is like ponies on a train heist or something

"Doktor, turn off everyone's pony inhibitors!"
This is awesome
Wow this looked epic! I like the simplistic style. The fight choregraphy was amazing!
Animation AND modelling? How talented!
I love the low poly models so much.
Even the train cars looks cool
That internal carriage shot was super creepy
I know, right? The more I think about it the more horrifying it really becomes, honestly.
were they prisoners or something?
@@shieldgenerator7 yes - this is a prisoner transport to the Pinefalls mine complex. After all, capitalism runs on forced prison labour to terrifying extents, in this fictional future even more so than our current reality...

Yeah I can feel some Monty Oum in the fight choreography. Fantastic work.
Incredible how this 3D style give an other design to the animation. I enjoyed each seconds
Incredibly unique and dynamic animation style! CaptainHoers animations always deliver on the quality!
High res characters in The Last of Us 2: I sleep
Low Poly Ponies: REAL SHIT

Damn, I don't have words to describe how much I enjoyed this job. And low-poly models really suit your style. Keep it up!

>No appearances of blood or sheds in the video
This is like PONIES on a train heist or something because this is amazing and some great heavy metal song with it as well

How did I miss this coming out? This is the best thing I've seen in a while.
because the algorithm hates people who only make one video every 6-8 months
That is sadly true
This is so worth the wait on the Sunjackers.
That's awesome.
Quadruped fighting style, that is. Although everything else about this video is amazing too.
The only thing I can criticize is the lack of weight or inertia that the animation seems to have. but this is common in the industry anyway and pales in compare to the rest of the animation, great work and good luck improving!
I did notice that too, but honestly, for a _first time_ 3d animation? Seriously impressive
I don't think it's too bad, the effort is there and the effects help
AWESOME
Sunjackers is the BEST btw
Props for translating your existing style into 3d and keeping it recognizable
OH NO HE'S HE'S INFILTRATED ANOTHER LAYER OF REALITY
This is epic! The animation is really unique and energetic! Great work!
This 1,000% caught me off guard! Holy! Since when could you do 3D modeling!? This was AWESOME!!!
Another wonderful animation, with another song you are making me add to my playlists
This was seriously Worth The Hype, for real
