One interesting thing I noticed is that Purple specifically selected this universe, whereas everyone was panicking and rushing to Portals because the Black hole was destroying everything, Purple deliberately ran towards this Portal, now, this could mean that it was because there wasn't anyone in the way to it, or because this Universe is his safe space in some way, or just a place he likes going to, if you guys noticed, Green had to learn how to sing with the villagers, but there is no depiction of Purple learning it as he goes, meaning that perhaps he came here before more than a few times, him knowing a way to sing that is unique to him, the violin, could mean that he even got to the point of honing his skills here, whereas Green was just doing what the other entities did, using the note block and the lever, and finally acquiring a singing voice by hanging out with the villagers I find this interesting because when Green arrives, there is a childishness to this universe, something you'd see in a kids' tv show, maybe a toddler watching it is a vision you could have, to me this shows how Purple is a kid or a teenager, whereas King, who is bigger than the other stick figures, is an adult, the only adult we see in this series actually. Idk, just something I took notice of, maybe I'm wrong about it but I thought it was interesting
I honestly just jumped to this one after the note block battle one and I got the impression of it just being light and happy like a kid show at first too. And then some like boy band stuff with the zombies and funny 90's musical number, but holy crap I did NOT expect this to get so deep. I need to watch the rest of the series now lol.
Okay but let's appreciate how we can see Green gradually learning the rules of this universe. •Woodland: Tries communicating "verbally", has to learn to use music to communicate. •Cave: Communicates with music, has to learn to match the style. •Village: Communicates with a matched style, has to learn to sing. •Desert: Green doesn't really learn anything here but I want to shout out how you can *_hear_* the growing desperation in the Wandering Trader's voice as he's rejected. •All culminating in the emotional climax at the mountain.
This went from just a simple stick figure destroying his pc to a storyline with lore and has all the features of a movie, betrayal, sadness, adventure, and action which makes this a great series. My respects Alan, you deserve a Netflix show
I really like the detail that when Purple says he is bad, Green "tells" him that he doesn't have to be good or bad, he just has to be himself, and being yourself means making mistakes, but making mistakes doesn't make us bad. That's what Purple needed, to know that making mistakes didn't make him a bad person, a terrible bad person with no chance of being forgiven, and that no one would abandon him when he made a mistake. And in the same way, you shouldn't expect yourself to be "good," because, in the end, no one is ever completely "good." Plus, Purple was probably just a kid or preteen when his mom died and his dad abandoned him. He was very young and had to deal alone with very complex feelings and emotions that he had never encountered before. The fact of not having experience managing his feelings and emotions, in addition to being very young, was one of the reasons why he made bad decisions. He didn't know how to handle himself in that situation, because it seemed like he had no one to help him. (Bad english i'm sorry)

purple's redemption is unironically one of the best i have ever seen in all of fiction and it's one of the reasons they're my favourite character. having the usual "my dad abused me as a kid" backstory but then it's revealed that he is still looking for his dad to prove he can be a warrior, him looking up to king and being betrayed, him gaining the courage to fight against him and realising he doesn't need to be good or evil, just himself.... perfection.
I think showing Purple's explanation here rather than simply telling does wonders for their backstory reveal. Sure, words can have emotion behind them, but having their story told through animation and music allows for you to get what's going on over an extended period of time and shows you Purple's perspective more directly while still keeping that feeling of letting it out all at once. And after it's all out, everything we just saw is distilled into a few seconds. Purple stands in the remains of their mother's flower, his dad walks away, then they break down crying. Their theme, too, is perfect for showing Purple's determination in spite of it all, really giving that feeling that they HAVE to get their father back, or (when used in episode 30) that they HAVE to stop the King. I legitimately still don't know if or how they're going to top this and episode 30, even with how good AvA 6 has been so far.
Also not to mention showing purple is not 100% without responsibility. Tons of redemption arks tell you "Oh he had a troubled backstory" and then expects you to automatically forgive said character for that. In this case, it's shown that purple willingly disregarded his morals just for another attempt to please his abusive father, and it's not until he reaches his lowest that he realizes his own fault.
I've been teaching music for 10 years. My son showed me this out of joy and oh my goodness, i am left with no words, this was so unexplainable and the story line was just unbelievable, this is just an amazing animation. Good job Alan, you have made your generation proud.
I completely agree but musically my favorite part is at 0:31 where the animals are introducing themselves you can almost hear the introduction verbally through the melodies and I love that attention to detail
10:13 breaks me so much bc you can hear purple calling out for his father so plaintively in the violin, and then king betrays him and he's cast aside, falling back into that heartbroken grief-stricken trail of flowers. can you say CINEMA
I genuinely cannot believe this is 13 minutes, it felt so much longer than that This was perfectly executed, and so well made, even made me shed a tear God tier episode
Alan Becker is a remarkable storyteller. Conveying a story not through words but through elements of a pre-existing particle that was used differently than intended. Truly one of the best examples of “Show Not Tell” and he already did this with the many other animations revolving around the same characters and artstyle he’d done before.
11:55 This scene is so good, Purple finally puts down his mistakes and trauma behind, knowing what's the right thing to do, and says to himself, "I'm the good guy now!" But Green wipes out the halo on his head, it's like saying to him, "You are not a bad guy nor a good guy, you are just you, and there's nothing wrong about you."
Yeah, you tend to put yourself into primitive labels when you get dehumanized and you don't really get to see yourself as a human with emotions, shit is complicated 😭
This guy made an entire musical show using stick figures and Minecraft notes. Can someone PLEASE get this man every single art award. Good lord, where do you get these creative and amazing ideas? This series evolved from something so simple and fun, to incredibly deep, thoughtful, and downright brilliant story telling.
This animation is out for almost 2 years now and i haven't seen anyone in the comments catch "The Lick" at 4:23 That's kinda surprising seeing how popular the riff is. And If you're wondering what "The Lick" is, it's a riff commonly used in Jazz music.
Out of literally everything Alan has put out, this has got to be my favorite. I keep coming back to it. The music, the different instrumentation to convey characterization, the choreography, the art, the emotions… I could go on and on, but honestly thank you so much for this, Alan! This episode is so inspiring, comforting, and lovely on so many levels.
God... it's easy to forget, sometimes, that the main cast of these stick figures isn't like The Chosen One. He was born of the Animator directly, but the rest are from an existing animation. They're fighters. All they were made to do is fight. That can't be healthy for a child.
Never once have i seen someone encapsulate the Wandering Traders personality so well. You can practically understand what hes saying even though theres no words, its genuinely incredible how groovy and understandable that scene was.
Ok, can we just talk about this man's MAD legacy? This episode alone has already inserted dark lore that tugs at our heart strings, and all that was BEFORE the avalanche of fan made lyrics for the damn thing. You, Alan Becker, are a blessed, talented, underrated, underappreciated, infinitely creative role model that the world simply cannot have enough of. We need more people like you
@@vitorsoares5809 Sure he gets a lot of views but you never hear or see anyone ever talk about him and his work. And subscriber-wise he is very underappreciated when you compare him to multiple others that are higher than him.
I love the little detail where Purple resolves to change for the better and gives himself a little halo, but Green brushes it off, because he shouldn't define himself by terms like good or evil. Instead, he is just human, and humans make mistakes. Green kind of learns this himself after seeing Purple's backstory. At first he asks Purple if he wants to be good or evil, but that's such a narrow way to view something as infinitely complex and nuanced as a person, which is why he later emphasises brushing off both the devil AND the angel, and encouraging Purple to see himself instead as a fellow human being. An equal. The very thing Purple most wanted, to be considered worthy. An equal.
4:24 "The lick" spotted. Ha! Green doesn't talk but has an ability to sing... This is the episode that makes me cry. So far as what I have watched few years ago with my younger brother during the pandemic, I watch this episode on this day (2024). I am an aspiring animator (of different style, which is Japanese) and I love how Alan made this story well-written in the overall MVM. Thank you so much, Alan! ❤
God- Green's message at 11:19 always gets me. You aren't good or bad, you're just *you* The entire episode is amazing, but that specific scene always makes me emotional because I've felt that before. There are no good or bad people, just, people.
Everyone has the potential to be good or bad. At a young age, our parents or whoever is around us shapes the beginnings of that, but you are not truly good or bad until you take responsibility for yourself and your own actions. When you hit that point, you can be good or bad. You have the power to act justly, you have the power to act unjustly, and it is your responsibility. The people or circumstances that shaped you may have made you more likely to do one or the other, but that does not take away from your responsibility, nor does it take away from your own power to reshape yourself if you wish. Subjectively? Sure, everyone is good in the moment in their own head, but that doesn't make them objectively good nor can we judge people by their internal thoughts because we do not know them. You can't stand in front of God (or whatever judging entity you believe in. If you don't believe in any, then it's meaningless anyway) and say "I only killed those people because I was told to" or "It was too hard to do the right thing" and expect not to be held responsible for it. You are flawed, it is not your place to blame others for it, it is your place to fix it.
I hate how nobody is talking about 9:30 part, where green stopped for a second just because purple seemed being not okay, and the notes played at this time are gives me delight n creeps every time, this is a masterpiece
Absolutely blown away by that sequence with Purple. I've been impressed time after time with Alan Becker's knack for visual storytelling, and this was a beautiful example of that. The detail I like most is how Purple is represented as literally using other people as stepping stones on his way to his goal, which seems to involve becoming stronger than his father. I take it that this means he served King so loyally because he was the most powerful person he had met, and he believed that King would make him stronger. I'm intensely curious to see what he will do now, and I wonder if King will even try to appeal to him or just try to take the block back by force.
I agree with you. It made me emotional because the purple guy just wanted the recognition from his father. Other words, he wanted to make his father proud.
I think it isn't being stronger than his father. He's trying to impress his father and win him back into his life. Purple isn't the fighter his father wants him to be and so he left.
Thank you for clarifying that last part. I understood he was using other people as stepping stones but it didn't click to me that he was trying to get strong enough for his father's recognition. 🙏🏾
For me, Purple saw Orange ( the evil one ) as a father figure, a better one, and when Orange decided to choose the cube instead of Purple, it feels like he loses him a second time
@@TyDreacon Being king, getting the dragon egg, even serving the evil king. Everything he’s ever done was just to show his dad that he was good enough. But no mater what he did or how high he climb, it was never enough.
What I noticed is that when Green as chasing Purple, he was only questioning them. He wasn’t shaming or booing Purple at all, just asking questions, wanting to know why Purple did the things they did, and the same questions that we, the audience, have. Green is usually shown to be the more calm type, and that helps in his friendships. It went to the point that Purple just decided to open up to him already. Green wasn’t expecting anything from Purple unlike how their father (Navy?) did, and plus Purple probably didn’t have much experience of just being a normal friend as well. So they decided to finally say it. They finally found someone who’d accept Purple for who they are. Wholesome ending :)
I love how this explored one of greens main talents after a really long time of not seeing music blocks. It’s also super cool to see green have to adapt to each music style so he could communicate. Definitely one of my favorite videos, specifically the zombie synths make the video amazing. The story telling of green and purple was so good. Best decision to make purple strings so he could convey his feelings of trauma and how he just wants to impress his dad after he walked out on them. Scott did a perfect job composing that part.
The storytelling behind this episode just hits the feels a different way. Purple's desire for power and the actions that led up to his current state are so relatable to people IRL. One of the few episodes that made me cry. Well Done Alan
7:33 gave me the exact same vibes as Zuko's "I'm angry at myself!" from the ATLA beach episode. You can feel the conflict inside of purple. It's so expertly well done.
I just realized how every side-story has kind of been teaching all the stickmen valuable lessons. For second coming, it was not repaying brute force with brute force, but treating violence with kindness, reaching the Warden in a place that'd been locked away for a long time, for red it was working in teams and not always going it alone, for yellow it was embracing his techy side and using command block magic once again, for blue I guess maybe it was not backing down from a leadership role and training the villagers to fight, and for green it was being forced to embrace his musical side and relearn his affinity for song.
Jesus Christ. Most movies with dialogue don't have this level of depth. Beautiful visual and audio storytelling. This series started off as "silly, goofy stickmen having awesome martial arts fights with Minecraft flavor," and it has no right being this goddamn good. It has transcended into some real, high-level art, and I love it. Truly excellent work by Alan and his team. I hope we have many years of their storytelling ahead of us.
Indeed, the Stickman universe has evolved into a narrative masterpiece! The layers of storytelling are as intricate as a Redstone contraption, and the characters' journeys resonate on a profound level. It's like witnessing the birth of a new mythology within the Minecraft realm. 🌌 If you're seeking a platform as reliable as Stickman's journey through genres, Scalacube is here for you - offering a canvas for your own creative narratives.
As a musician who's been a fan of this channel for a while, this made me so unbelievably happy. The way you explained the story and trauma through the musical styles was unbelievably amazing, and the payoff felt so much more emotional than if they conveyed things through words. This is truly a masterpiece, especially with the new visual styles. This music allowed me to feel even more emotionally attached to the story, and I'm more excited than ever for it's conclusion. (Not in an "it's almost over FINALLY kind of way," but an "excited to see where this all leads to and what the final act is going to look like)"
@@robertocarrillo7742 It was absolutely intense, and not to mention I think it was the first time Shading was used for these shorts. If it wasn't the first time, it sure as hell added a lot to it.
i like how you can see actual dialogue when they sing. like how green says "thank you very much", when leaving the cave, and a lil "thank you!" while leaving the village. at least, that's what it feels like he's saying lol
In my opinion this is the best episode in phase three in Alan Becker's AVM. The music is perfect, and the mobs like the fox, the zombies, the villagers, the traders are so well animated ! The most expected part in this episode - backstory of purple - his engine, his origin has been told with an emotional tone. Bravo Alan for this masterpiece
@@TheMastermind7259 This is just my interpretation but Purple is clearly a victim of a “broken home”. He had an abusive “father” and he learned how to fight so he could protect his mother from him. Despite this, he never hated his father and still sought out his “approval”. I have two theories as to his relation with Orange (the King): 1.) The King was his father, formerly at least. Due to his thirst for power, he sought out the Blocks of Power (yes, I’m gonna use that term to describe the Yin and Yang Minecraft Icons xd) and overtime he…changed color idk. 2.) After the death of his mother, he went out to search for his father and found the King instead. For a while, under his servitude, Purple saw the King as a sort of “master” that somehow “approved” of him, something he clearly lacked in his childhood. Again, these are theories and are just things I’ve come up after watching the video. They’re not canon xd
@@DriedJizzSock Or maybe the dark blue father isn't a stick figure at all, but a really cruel animator that's worse than Alan that takes their anger/frustration out on stick figures due to real life problems or something. Since we saw how stick figures are created, and maybe Purple sees his creator as a stick figure because of some sort of stockholm syndrome. Or the animator knew how to control an avatar-like stick figure. Then the animator probably gotten bored of Purple and Pink, and so they left their creations to rot somewhere. Purple percieving this 'boredom' as disappointment in him and maybe Pink eventually ended up getting deleted by the animator but Purple wasn't aware of it. And Purple is a extended reflection of the animator's low self-esteem and insecurities, insecure enough to abuse programs.
A short reminder for every phase of this video: 00:00 - Animal's singing 01:13 - Cave & Zombies (my personal favourite) 02:49 - Village 03:52 - Green's Singing (!) 04:56 - Wandering Trader (2nd favourite, BeatBox) 05:57 - Chase after Purple 07:38 - Purple's life story 10:50 - angel or Devil? 12:24 - On the Other Side Hope you find it useful. Stay within music!
This man. This man is somehow able to inject more personality, humor, gravitas and tension in a story about stick figures having adventures in Minecraft than I've seen in most modern shows and movies... And he does it without them uttering a single word. Alan Becker, you are a storytelling wizard and you deserve every bit of praise you get.
That really sucks. A guy with a video software. Stick figs and a computer does better than shows and films with hundreds of millions in funding. Brilliant Job Alan Becker
this has to be the most emotion I’ve ever felt for a stick figure ever, and it’s insane, Alan is not only a great Animator, he’s great at writing compelling stories without needing dialogue. The fact you can understand everything that happens in every episode and every animation shows the sheer skill this man has when it comes to storytelling. Even if this episode is mostly MUSIC, he still finds a way to use this music to convey feelings, like discovery, desperation, hopefulness, success, the fall back down to zero, and then at last, the idea of a new horizon. Not only does he have Great Animation, Storytelling, and The ability to make you want more, he works with people who create great music to fit scenes, which he then perfectly fits in with his animation and storytelling prowess. This isn’t even the last episode, but The Ultimate Weapon, The Raid, and this Episode are THE greatest examples of his ability to craft a story with an expressionless, voiceless, Stick Figure. The fact these stick figures have greater emotional impact when anything happens to them compared to ANY recently media speaks volumes. In the end, all I can say is that I cannot wait to see the next episode, every character has had their own return, and now the end has come to finish this Oscar worthy piece of animation.
7:57 The EMOTION in this whole song is just beautiful. I never in my life would have guessed i would feel so strongly about a stick figure "singing" about his past. You can just hear his feelings in every note. The necessity to please his father, to be better than everyone else, to fulfill his job for KO, and the feeling of shame and regret for hurting his newfound friends in the process. This series is truly breathtaking!
One thing that I love about this episode is that every character has a different “voice”. This is especially evident in the scene with the Villagers and the last scenes with just Green and Purple. The villagers are all Brass and Wind instruments, this probably influenced Green’s voice becoming a clarinet (and a flute in that one scene and that other time) instead of like a synth or an animal voice like previous mobs he visited (or it’s just way easier to have an actual instrument as the stickpeople’s voices instead of minecraft sounds since by themselfs, they are totally separate) And once we get to the scene where Purple begins to use his voice, we figure out his voice is a strings instrument (probably a violin). And when we see the scene where we see the root of Purple’s trauma, the only instruments used are Strings (as far as I can tell). And once we get the “chase” scene in the void, the primary instruments are strings with any other instruments only being in the background. I think this is a good representation that Purple was so focused on earning any sort of his parent’s validation that he ended up pushing any other voice that wasent his down, making them just background noise, focusing only on the big booming expectations of an absent parent. The only time we ever DO hear instruments play along with the strings is when all the sticks are running past Purple and when Green runs by and looks back at Purple (in a totally normal friend type way not at all anything else being hinted at maybe 👀) and a small flute melody plays before they run off. After the scene, Green’s voice becomes another main voice with Purple’s strings. And when the two fly off, a very emotional mix of both Strings and (Brass) Winds are used. Both voices are working together to make a song. Edit: Adding some things, spelling and rewording
So what was with all the brass in the...chase scene Also that distinct synth arpeggio I think That's a lot of musical storytelling :O (still it might need the visual context to be understood)
There's also one more detail I found. During that chase scene, purples voice when he screams out is intentionally dissonant, which implies that he has yet to find what he really wants and he's in an internal conflict.
The use of music to tell a tragic story of divorce, being backstabbed and falling to the bottom mentally, emotionally and phisycally is something i have never seen like this before. Watching the perspective of Purple makes me not even question why Purple does what they do. this is in my oppinion the best exhample of this type of storytelling. I really did cry while watching this. Alan Becker, you have done something with this series and your use of storytelling that had never seen before, and i dont thing anyone will be able to do it better than you. the animation itself is on par with big budget animation studios, if not better than them. The music added to everything on top is what makes this 13 minuite animation with a funny little block game plus stick figures, a masterpiece. Alan becker, thank you.
My interpretation of the Purple's backstory: Purple's father (Blue) was a fighter. So, he trained his child to be a strong fighter too but purple hated fighting. His mother (Pink) noticed this and asked Blue to stop but he insisted to train Purple no matter what. The two had been training for quite a while until Purple finally gave up and the mother stopped Blue once again (This probably had happened quite a lot than what was shown in the backstory). Blue had enough and finally decided to leave his own family behind and go somewhere else. Purple took care of his mother but she didn't live long and died of a sickness. He tried to reach out to his father but he knew the only way to get to him was by getting stronger so he tried to find some way to prove it to him. He made everyone that he met as stepping pedals to impress his father. He found out that, to be the strongest, he had to steal the ender dragon's egg (because that's the ending of the game. You kill the dragon, steal the egg and become the "strongest" in minecraft) but he failed. Once again he lost his father. Then, Orange reached out to him. Purple saw him as a father figure. Strong and admirable. From then onwards he knew about the ultimate weapon and tried to impress Orange just like how he tried to impress his own father without knowing he was only repeating the same trauma. He once again used The Second Coming and his friends as a means of achieving his goals to get validation from someone he admired and cared about just for him to get betrayed at the end.
I think it's really interesting how it's reveled how Purple comes from a universe so intertwined with music, and how he has some remote musical talent in finding his voice here. It also dawned on me that if Purple has such a vested interest in music, or at least was around music much of his traumatized adult life, this server of singing mobs effectively became his safe space. With those ideas combined, it came to me as no wonder to me that Purple gravitated towards Green, a natural musical genius. No wonder he felt safe around the musician, music is his safe space, and has been his only comfort as (what I would assume to be) a young adult. It only makes sense that he was comfortable enough to share his life experience with the music man.
Green honestly had a WAY easier time than the others. They weren’t attacked by Pillagers or a Warden, and they weren’t bullied or anything. Just had to play music and was semi-pressured by villagers into gaining a voice. The animation here is BEAUTIFUL! Can’t wait for AVM 30 in a little while :D Also I just realized: Purple flying into Orange at the end almost directly mirrors TSC flying into Orange in episode 25. Nice.
@@Densdel Why? People do refer to the Stick Figures as male, but we don't actually know their genders. I don't know of any time that the Stick Figures were given confirmed genders (except maybe the AIM scene in AvA 2, which refers to the Chosen One as male).

@@Densdel But this is a stickfigure animated universe thing. Kings and queens may have the same crowns. How are the sticks male? There's no confirmation I know of (maybe Alan referred to them as male in reactions?) other than the Chosen One being referred to as "him" in AvA 2.

this might be the best thing ever made, ever. all of the musical styles are beautifully represented, from the zombie boyband to the theatre ensemble village. the fact that the sound was able to seamlessly blend between so many different genres is unreal. And Purple’s ballad was beyond touching. Truly indescribable, amazing work.
Also the fact on how the wandering trader tried to sell green stuff through rapping was cool but the purple story was incredible on how they showed it going from music notes to anamation was cool
1:21 I love how you can tell the moment green enters the cave due to the music echoing. Little details like that just make these episodes so much better!
The backstory purple gives is just unbelievable. It's truly incredible how Alan Becker has put so much emotion behind faceless figures. This is no longer just an animation but a compelling story as well.
So purple followed orange king because he saw him as a father figure and told him to get the Minecraft logo. Obediently so searched for it in hopes to make Orange proud but backstab him like his dad.
Purple’s story is probably the best storytelling in the series. Switching to 3d perspectives and the incredible plot that’s been developed for purple’s character is seriously all a viewer like me could ask for. Keep being absolutely incredible, can’t wait for the finale!
This- this is beyond beautiful. Adding 3D elements to a semi 2d animated series was a very good detail. And Purple’s backstory, it probably the saddest thing I’ve seen all year.

I’m… speechless. I can’t imagine what the world would be like if all movie makers / content creators put this level of effort and creativity into their work. I understand Purple. Such a desire for approval makes you push others away or use them to get what you need. All they ever wanted was a father figure, and when they didnt get that from their own father, they went for King. Their hiding place is childish because its a safe space that they've likely been using for years. Its familiar, warm, and comforting. They need approval, and when they finally get it, they're ready to fight. I love Purple so much
This deserves to be studied. Alan and your team, this series you've made is an incredible example of "show-not-tell," and this episode is the prime cut.
I love how green, the one who most hated purple, is the one who understands him, forgives, and bring him to the good side This is one of the best episodes that Alan has made, and the fact that you don't need a single word, a single dialog to understand the story and conect emotionally shows that him and his team are top tier, masterpiece artists, this is gold
tbh I don’t think green hated him he just wanted to know why purple did all those terrible things to them, he had a feeling there was an ulterior motive than just serving King Orange
So your telling me that while the others were having the most intense, life risking, soul crushing battle in existence greens playing the protagonist in a Disney Movie? I LOVE IT.

I'm speechless. It's hard to imagine this video being in the same series as the rest of the Animation vs. Minecraft series. By far, this is the best. The way that you told the story is just so... so impressive. I am actually crying right now.
I’m really surprised that I found myself crying at the end of this too. Seeing Purple break down and open up to Green, then them comforting each other and teaming up, it just touched something in me. I’m confused on one thing though. My memory is poor and I’ve forgotten many of the earlier episodes since it’s been so long. Why did Green hate Purple the most? If anything, wouldn’t Green and Blue equally hate them, since they were both ditched in the End dimension?
@@twilightstar637 Maybe Green is just curious of why Purple did that, Purple couldn't be just doing this for no reason, but Blue simply doesn't kind of care.
The fact that none of these figures talk but they portray a feeling that can’t be described in words is amazing like just think about it, we went from a bunch of stick figures discovering stuff, meeting other people and even playing around with Minecraft and here we are. Almost the end of the trilogy and we’re just waiting for the final part to end up this masterpiece. But seriously this is the most emotional episode so far!
Purple is the type of character that you think is genuinely evil until you hear his story. I feel like 90% of villian arcs start with the person who has gone through a lot of pain and they will do anything to anyone to help fill that void. That is so relatable
The fact that Alan can tell an entire story without any dialogue is incredible. The story, action, and music for this series have been absolutely beautiful!!!
I feel like any time anyone thinks "Where the hell is the next episode?" that just by watching it on release, you can TELL EXACTLY WHY these take so much time. this was fantastic from start to finish. Purple has a lot to make up for, since tragedy doesn't excuse wrongdoing, but I'm glad we finally have him truly on a righteous path.
The first part is music for the ears, and the second part is music for the eyes and heart. Wow, this isn't just animation, this is really top-quality art. I think the hilarious first part actually makes it easier to feel the second part with its visual poetry. Alan hits a lot of emotions, so you end up really deeply enjoying each one. I also sense a freedom in Alan's movies that is absent in much media. A lot of media feels a bit tired, like the same person scripts it, and you can predict the whole story after after about 10 min. Not so here. I mean, we knew there would be music, and probably a reckoning with Purple, but the form Alan's team has given it is so unexpectedly funny, beautiful and creative. Thanks for giving me hope for art again!
I mean, you can still guess some stuff, like purple becoming a good guy is a pretty obvious turn for the story after the King shot him down, but it's like 90% stuff that you didn't expect, like i didn't think the King would actually get both Minecrafts, let alone merge them and put them on the staff cuz then it's like "Now what? How are the heroes gonna win?"
Two things I noticed about this universe and story. First off, Purple is already capable of singing and understands this universe while Green had to learn, meaning that not only is he the only one besides Green who is able to sing, but this is probably not his first time coming to this universe. He's been here multiple times. Secondly, none of the mobs in this universe are hostile, not even the zombies in the cave. They don't attack Green for being an anomaly or not being able to communicate with them, and even teach him. They all literally just vibe. This is an EXTREMELY peaceful universe that's full of life and colour, and resembles something out of a kid's cartoon, something nice and innocent, and after we learn Purple's backstory, it makes perfect sense why he ran here. This is probably his safe space where he doesn't need to think about his past, and would also explain why he didn't 'conquer' this universe. He doesn't bother any of the creatures living here because he genuinely likes this universe and doesn't want to destroy his one safe place. GOD Purple's character is amazing.
This was insanely creative. It's insane that your abilities to animate, tell a story, and stay motivated have not only not deteriorated over time, but have improved vastly. You put an insane amount of work & love into each episode, and each video is such a treat to watch for that reason. I just can't get over the fact that you can blow my mind every time with something new after all these years, so keep up the great work Becker. You absolutely deserve all the love & praise you get for your videos.
It’s astonishing how much soul and expression Alan puts into the simplest stick figures. It’s honestly encouraging for young artists, many can relate to starting out with stick figures but Alan shows how complex we can utilize these designs in story and animation.
Its such a simple and easy way to start out a dream! Another good one is the community channel Hyun's Dojo, its not episodes like Alan's but multiple different concepts regarding indie animation. Whenever I watch my fav videos from both channels it makes me so excited and in love by how much passion and fun these people create that it makes me want to learn seriously too!
I love the symbolism used in the instruments - Green is represented by a flute, while Purple a violin. Purple's Blue parent is of a brass instrument, a lower pitched one, can't place it's name, maybe a tuba? Makes me wonder what the others' would be! (Edit: I have since been told that it's a clarinet, not a flute. Thanks everyone, I didn't realize that!) What is also cool is how Purple takes the block from Red - the one who first lost control over its power, and overcame it. Green is the one who looks back (even with three little notes), last to be caged, and the one who chased Purple with the fishing rod. I love the efforts to understand Purple more, asking the questions the rest of us probably have. But now we know - all in effort to find his Blue parent and have approval and love, no matter what it takes. It took Purple down a very dark path, but maybe now there'll be peace moving forward, with the others as friends. That said, I can't wait to see how all this resolves!
I'm beyond baffled. Alan has conveyed a storyline so perfectly, not using words but with vision and sound. The perfect orchestral symphony, the use of instruments based on what character is producing - Green's clarinet producing a clear and positive sound, and Purple's tragic, heart wrenching and furious screech of the violin. It all adds up perfectly.
When I watched the villager scene I felt like I was watching a Christmas musical- it’s amazing how Alan can direct and create (along with his incredible team) shorts with such cheery and delightful themes alongside those of doom, grief and tragedy all without using a single word.
This episode was beautiful. The tone I got from it was that all of the things Green encountered on their way was helping them turn their musical eloquence into a way of communicating, so that they could properly talk to and redeem Purple. All the emotion without a single word spoken!
Absolutely stunning! The idea behind the note blocks creating physical objects and allowing them to tell a story using them is absolutely brilliant. You've outdone yourself again, Alan.
This entire show was never afraid to shy away from real life topics, using minecraft and stick figures to somehow make it an absolute masterpiece. This, though. This is perfection. Everything. Literally. Every. Pixel.
This is art. The fact you conveyed such an emotional and realistic story using nothing but animation and music shows remarkable talent. The fact purple felt like a terrible being because he lacked a fatherly connection, and cling to that connection with King Orange is realistic and compelling, and it’s made even more compelling with how you told it.
Love the different genres in this, from the farmyard animals, to the jazzy zombies, to the La La Land-esque/musical theatre villager singing troupe, and the wandering trader is totally unique. And then the call-and-response with Purple comes in and conveys so much before the Inception-style theme reaches the climax, then a swelling movie theme closes it out. Well done. Songs that came to mind while listening to this: Villagers: Another Day of Sun - La La Land Purple with the King and Dad - Mind Heist The ending - Titans Spirit or King of Pride Rock
this is truly the most beautiful one so far, so im gonna talk about it in the beginning, we can see how green (the one who has a natural talent for music) struggle a bit to figure out exactly how to communicate in a way that can be understood, but quickly master it. this small arc culminates in them learning how to actually sing, instead of using a noteblock to communicate. theres the wandering trader bit, which i believe was just there to help ease the viewers into this world a little bit more. now here comes the big part. purple we can see green trying to communicate, but purple clearly doesnt want to try and adapt to this world. during this, green asks a lot of questions, which arent immediately answered, the main ones being “why did you betray us?” and “are you good or bad?”. purple eventually just lets out a scream of frustration, still refusing to communicate. eventually, though, they give in, and start to explain. their parents seemingly didnt get along, with dark blue (whos name i will shorten to dblue) constantly fighting them, and purple seemingly trying to protect pink. either that, or dblue was trying to train them, make them strong, and worthy of love. through purples motions while singing this part, we can see that they love pink, and that they meant a lot to them. as pink dies, the visuals that have been constant throughout the episode fade away, with the music enhancing the story instead of guiding it. purple is chasing after the love of dblue (or, perhaps, chasing them in order to enact revenge. its unclear), harming those that trusted them in the way. in comes king. they seemed to have promised purple a way to get what theyre after, if they do something in return. that “something” is something we are all to familiar with. they do as they were asked, desperate for some kind of validation, but they dont get it. king betrays them, just as they did to the others. the visuals return, with purple now finally answering the second question. theyre evil. green, however, consoles them, explaining that while they may not be good, their not entirely bad. they then give them the elytra, which is incredibly symbolic in multiple ways. purple had used that elytra in ways that had hurt green and the others on multiple occasions, but it also symbolizes the wings of the angel used to represent good. they put the wings on, and a halo appears over their head, but greens waves it away. theyre not wholly good, but they arent wholly bad. theyre simply… themself.
An animation with so little words but so many meanings. So heartwarming but so action packed at the same time. Time and time again Alan Becker makes an absolute gem of a video as if it’s the ice cream parlor on a Tuesday afternoon.
Hey! Did you know God is three in one!? The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit! Bless him! Jesus died for our sins, rose from the dead, and gives salvation to everyone who has faith in him! True faith in Jesus will have you bear good fruit and *drastically* change for the better!
Your worries (yes, anxiety), depression, suicidal thoughts, EVERYTHING will melt away and be NO MORE when you lean on God and put your trust in him!! When I have physical pain, I literally pray and the Lord quells it, that I am healed!! Know that there is power in the name Jesus Christ! His name casts out demons and heals! People are bothered by his name. The world hates the truth and wants to continue living sinfully! God's children are set apart (holy) and righteous.
What's really impressive to me is that Alan Becker is still improving his craft with each new video. A lot of content creators, once they have a series with an established audience, get "complacent" in terms of just rehashing the same old formula for each new work they put out. But each of Becker's videos feature some new unique element. This time I was especially impressed by that 3D violin sequence.
I think we can all agree that their gender is irrelevant to the story, and the fact that Becker chose to make them ambiguous is up to the watcher’s interpretation.
I've always loves how despite never talking, the stick figures all have their own voice, be it their actions or their behavior. Alan and his team have gone a step further with providing voice without breaking that speechless magic they possess
The fact that I can fully understand every single thing all the characters have "said", when they're actually just singing in noteblocks... This tells a lot about how well the masterpiece is animated, well done Alan, thanks 👍
What a masterpiece… this was “more than worth the wait” personified, and this really comes to show how far this show has come. The musical aspect is so entertaining, great to listen to, and builds up to where purple is and why he did what he has done. And his backstory is one of the best moments in this series, with such amazing character development told without a single word spoken. Purely Incredible. Episode 30 is about to be Alan’s Magnum Opus. I can feel it.
All the comments say it, but it can’t be said enough: Alan and the team do an amazing job with their animations and they never cease to blow me away. You add a depth to the characters that nobody sees coming, and that’s what brings us all back!
@@WatercraftGames I don’t know about you, almost brought me to tears though. This one got deep, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our heroes!
i..cannot describe the feeling of astonishment im experiencing right now. whod've thunk id be nearly brought to tears by an animation about stick figures and minecraft. i was sent on a roller-coaster ride of beautiful and creative animation, impeccable storytelling, a freaking redemption arc, with parental issues sprinkled on top for good measure, and then have an existential crisis that i got all that from a stick figure animation about FREAKING. MINECRAFT. if only i could keep hitting the like button for eternity. bravo alan, you god-forsaken genius.
The backstory for Purple was amazing, the fact that he described with an entire story behind a purple stick figure without speech only using music & the way it was describing his story was so unique, I was so speechless with how it was told, it's very hard to describe that feeling even in this comment, Alan is truly legend, but oh my god the the music in this episode was so good, Aaron & Scott really are the perfect duo for music in this series
Yea I'm trying to understand the backstory. The best I can interpret so far is that he's the lovechild of 2 SF, and the father was... well not the best
@@haretakuso Yeah but after that I didn't get it very well, it's like he wants to get power from the King to find his father? Cuz that's what I'm doubtful about
@@awlow052 I think it's more like take him out. My guess is after meeting blue and green he fell down so far, he felt like the King gave him a sense of purpose. And it's obvious where that got him. Then green showed that he and his brothers really do want to be his friends. But right now we gotta wait and see what purple does now that he holds the staff. It'll be the moment of truth I'm betting.
@@haretakuso actually, I think purple wants to impress his father. In the backstory, the father wants to purple to be like him, a fighter, but purple can't do that or he is not interested in fight, which cause the father left. After the dead of his mom, the only motivation of purple is to show his father what is he capable of do. Thats why he always wanted to be in the top of everyone and is in the moment when he's betrayed by the tall orange when he realize that whatever he does, will not be enough to earn his father respect, because he never respected him or his mother past. Sorry if i spelled something wrong, my english is kinda bad.
2012: lol funny stick figures. 2022: incredible dramatic and emotional character arcs/story telling The extreme emotional power in this episode is more than every episode combined. Outstanding job Alan and Alan’s team of animators.
This episode has it all. It has the fun, it has the whimsy, it has a frickin musical, it has my favorite stick, it has new steps in this animation, it has character development, Green learns to sing, Purple has a tragic and relatable story and goals that make so much sense now, and it has all the music I love out of this amazing series. Alan and his team are the gifts that keep on giving Edit: Not to mention my favorite two second tune of anything ever
Anyone remember when this was just a funny story about a couple of friends enjoying their lives as they hung out together? Me neither. This episode man... I actually cried for purple because they've been through so much and the entire score was just magic throughout. I cannot thank Alan and his team enough to bring us these absolutely breathtaking journeys that *STICK FIGURES* of all things take. It's wonderful to see how much emotion they can convey just through their movements or even music without a single voice actor to be seen. Stupendous job, everyone.

Hi
One interesting thing I noticed is that Purple specifically selected this universe, whereas everyone was panicking and rushing to Portals because the Black hole was destroying everything, Purple deliberately ran towards this Portal, now, this could mean that it was because there wasn't anyone in the way to it, or because this Universe is his safe space in some way, or just a place he likes going to, if you guys noticed, Green had to learn how to sing with the villagers, but there is no depiction of Purple learning it as he goes, meaning that perhaps he came here before more than a few times, him knowing a way to sing that is unique to him, the violin, could mean that he even got to the point of honing his skills here, whereas Green was just doing what the other entities did, using the note block and the lever, and finally acquiring a singing voice by hanging out with the villagers
I find this interesting because when Green arrives, there is a childishness to this universe, something you'd see in a kids' tv show, maybe a toddler watching it is a vision you could have, to me this shows how Purple is a kid or a teenager, whereas King, who is bigger than the other stick figures, is an adult, the only adult we see in this series actually.
I’m not saying this because of the color but I thought Purple was a girl. It just seemed like that but It had nothing to do with the color.
@@Gpzeldafan10 chill out abut the color thing, nobody assumes its about color
@@mrseriousv1 Ok good thanks 👍
Good observation omg
Okay but let's appreciate how we can see Green gradually learning the rules of this universe.
•Woodland: Tries communicating "verbally", has to learn to use music to communicate.
•Cave: Communicates with music, has to learn to match the style.
•Village: Communicates with a matched style, has to learn to sing.
•Desert: Green doesn't really learn anything here but I want to shout out how you can *_hear_* the growing desperation in the Wandering Trader's voice as he's rejected.
•All culminating in the emotional climax at the mountain.

(Bad english i'm sorry)

purple's redemption is unironically one of the best i have ever seen in all of fiction and it's one of the reasons they're my favourite character. having the usual "my dad abused me as a kid" backstory but then it's revealed that he is still looking for his dad to prove he can be a warrior, him looking up to king and being betrayed, him gaining the courage to fight against him and realising he doesn't need to be good or evil, just himself.... perfection.
actually showing his motivation and not just being depressed is important here
I think showing Purple's explanation here rather than simply telling does wonders for their backstory reveal.
I bet his dad is pre-helicopter oxob

An equal.

Being king, getting the dragon egg, even serving the evil king.

The storytelling behind this episode just hits the feels a different way. Purple's desire for power and the actions that led up to his current state are so relatable to people IRL. One of the few episodes that made me cry. Well Done Alan

So does that mean
Orang is the leaders stuff

I still dont get purple point... How purple met king?
That fox was me ☺
@@TheMastermind7259 This is just my interpretation but Purple is clearly a victim of a “broken home”. He had an abusive “father” and he learned how to fight so he could protect his mother from him. Despite this, he never hated his father and still sought out his “approval”. I have two theories as to his relation with Orange (the King):
1.) The King was his father, formerly at least.
And Purple is a extended reflection of the animator's low self-esteem and insecurities, insecure enough to abuse programs.

this has to be the most emotion I’ve ever felt for a stick figure ever, and it’s insane, Alan is not only a great Animator, he’s great at writing compelling stories without needing dialogue.
What an essay.

The villagers are all Brass and Wind instruments, this probably influenced Green’s voice becoming a clarinet (and a flute in that one scene and that other time) instead of like a synth or an animal voice like previous mobs he visited (or it’s just way easier to have an actual instrument as the stickpeople’s voices instead of minecraft sounds since by themselfs, they are totally separate)
And once we get to the scene where Purple begins to use his voice, we figure out his voice is a strings instrument (probably a violin).
That's a pretty good analysis!
So what was with all the brass in the...chase scene
Also that distinct synth arpeggio I think
That's a lot of musical storytelling :O (still it might need the visual context to be understood)
I am banana milk
There's also one more detail I found.
During that chase scene, purples voice when he screams out is intentionally dissonant, which implies that he has yet to find what he really wants and he's in an internal conflict.
Here before this blows up
The use of music to tell a tragic story of divorce, being backstabbed and falling to the bottom mentally, emotionally and phisycally is something i have never seen like this before.

Longest comment ever lol
The facts though
Which software he uses?
Which software he uses?
My interpretation of the Purple's backstory:
Purple's father (Blue) was a fighter.
He once again used The Second Coming and his friends as a means of achieving his goals to get validation from someone he admired and cared about just for him to get betrayed at the end.
it fits so well
Perfect explanation that’s my idea of it too
I though he was trying to get back at him and blamed him for his mother's death, but this works better I think.
@@echris10sen same thought! but i wasnt able to complete the story myself...
the fighter story may be true probably; at 8:14 we can see both of them nodding before fighting each other...

They push away Green because its all they know how to do because no one taught them otherwise. They believe themselves to be bad because no one told them they werent. They need approval, and when they finally get it, they're ready to fight. I love Purple so much

Na I get jealous and wanna quit

@@eitakou even though dojo is more action focused being more fight than lore

I love the symbolism used in the instruments - Green is represented by a flute, while Purple a violin. Purple's Blue parent is of a brass instrument, a lower pitched one, can't place it's name, maybe a tuba? Makes me wonder what the others' would be!
(Edit: I have since been told that it's a clarinet, not a flute. Thanks everyone, I didn't realize that!)
What is also cool is how Purple takes the block from Red - the one who first lost control over its power, and overcame it.
I would say green sounds more like a clarinet
I play the clarinet and can confirm that Green's "voice" was actually a clarinet, not a flute :)
And King Orange is represented by a pipe organ
Green is definitely a clarinet
Green and Purple have the same mbti personality type: ENTP. Explains Green chasing after Purple. Pretty neat.
Could you imagine what this team could do with half the budget of the minecraft movie.
Dam who let this British guy see this masterpiece 😨
This is how you tell a story with sound. To me... I could see it all happening without the visuals being needed.

When someone can tell such a masterful story with no words you know they have a talent
And even with no faces
@@lamhw not much design at all!
Visual communication, in my opinion, is much harder than bare words. That's why it's so impactful.
I think Green is the best of all in the entire series so far!!
The village part is a full on broadway musical and i love it
Absolutely stunning!
The idea behind the note blocks creating physical objects and allowing them to tell a story using them is absolutely brilliant.
You've outdone yourself again, Alan.

This is art. The fact you conveyed such an emotional and realistic story using nothing but animation and music shows remarkable talent. The fact purple felt like a terrible being because he lacked a fatherly connection, and cling to that connection with King Orange is realistic and compelling, and it’s made even more compelling with how you told it.
i like the way purple hugs back and cry’s too 11:44
Love the different genres in this, from the farmyard animals, to the jazzy zombies, to the La La Land-esque/musical theatre villager singing troupe, and the wandering trader is totally unique. And then the call-and-response with Purple comes in and conveys so much before the Inception-style theme reaches the climax, then a swelling movie theme closes it out. Well done.
Songs that came to mind while listening to this:
Villagers: Another Day of Sun - La La Land
Purple with the King and Dad - Mind Heist
The ending - Titans Spirit or King of Pride Rock
Underrated comment 🥲
this is truly the most beautiful one so far, so im gonna talk about it
in the beginning, we can see how green (the one who has a natural talent for music) struggle a bit to figure out exactly how to communicate in a way that can be understood, but quickly master it. this small arc culminates in them learning how to actually sing, instead of using a noteblock to communicate. theres the wandering trader bit, which i believe was just there to help ease the viewers into this world a little bit more. now here comes the big part.
purple
we can see green trying to communicate, but purple clearly doesnt want to try and adapt to this world. during this, green asks a lot of questions, which arent immediately answered, the main ones being “why did you betray us?” and “are you good or bad?”. purple eventually just lets out a scream of frustration, still refusing to communicate. eventually, though, they give in, and start to explain. their parents seemingly didnt get along, with dark blue (whos name i will shorten to dblue) constantly fighting them, and purple seemingly trying to protect pink. either that, or dblue was trying to train them, make them strong, and worthy of love. through purples motions while singing this part, we can see that they love pink, and that they meant a lot to them. as pink dies, the visuals that have been constant throughout the episode fade away, with the music enhancing the story instead of guiding it. purple is chasing after the love of dblue (or, perhaps, chasing them in order to enact revenge. its unclear), harming those that trusted them in the way. in comes king. they seemed to have promised purple a way to get what theyre after, if they do something in return. that “something” is something we are all to familiar with. they do as they were asked, desperate for some kind of validation, but they dont get it. king betrays them, just as they did to the others. the visuals return, with purple now finally answering the second question. theyre evil. green, however, consoles them, explaining that while they may not be good, their not entirely bad. they then give them the elytra, which is incredibly symbolic in multiple ways. purple had used that elytra in ways that had hurt green and the others on multiple occasions, but it also symbolizes the wings of the angel used to represent good. they put the wings on, and a halo appears over their head, but greens waves it away.
theyre not wholly good, but they arent wholly bad.
theyre simply…
themself.

Hey guys we got a poem writer over here
@@UvwevweveOsas1 What better place to showcase your poem artistry than a RUclips comment section?
What's really impressive to me is that Alan Becker is still improving his craft with each new video. A lot of content creators, once they have a series with an established audience, get "complacent" in terms of just rehashing the same old formula for each new work they put out. But each of Becker's videos feature some new unique element. This time I was especially impressed by that 3D violin sequence.

I think we can all agree that their gender is irrelevant to the story, and the fact that Becker chose to make them ambiguous is up to the watcher’s interpretation.
1:21 I love how when he enter the cave, the music kinda echoing
I've always loves how despite never talking, the stick figures all have their own voice, be it their actions or their behavior.
Alan and his team have gone a step further with providing voice without breaking that speechless magic they possess
The fact that I can fully understand every single thing all the characters have "said", when they're actually just singing in noteblocks...
This tells a lot about how well the masterpiece is animated, well done Alan, thanks 👍
