Of course, if we factor real physics into this (forgiving the fact that wings would never get an equine body off the ground irl) then I think it'd be fairly safe to say these pegasi would be put under some pretty extreme bodily duress - if not outright killed - by the intense G-force of taking several 90° turns at speeds excess of 500 kmph.
So this video was surprisingly accurate speed wise. At the end Spitfire does a sonic boom, and her last recorded speed was 1111kph which is 690mph which in turn is about mach .91 so it is completely feasible that she accelerated enough after that recording to break the sound barrier.
Two years late to comment, but... Is this a dream sequence? Spitfire is having a dream about some sort of futuristic racing event... That would explain the constantly changing environment and all the weird stuff happening. It would also explain why Luna is the only one who doesn't vanish.
after reading the blog, i have to say...it's BOTH. the race and track are real, but the strange shifting colors and some of the other things are dreams or hallucinations... Lighting dust surfing past, the injured pony, the dragon... also Luna helps her out by making the thing say "go" the second time, and making the meteor hit the dragon!
Spitfire hasn't been sleeping well and essentially passes out while still flying, entering a dream/nightmare while racing. That's why Luna perks up, because she realizes Spitfire is dreaming, when she definitely shouldn't be.

Cadet Zone mode in Wipeout Pulse changes in a similar way every time you reach a zone or speed segment the track changes color though in zone mode the laps are infinite until you crash.

there is SOOO SOO MUCH going on in this video that a lot of people might like to know! I have read the comic series and can fill in some info here. (this is my own opinion so lemme hear yours) For example the start of the race spitfire is awake but since in the comic she suffered a minor head injury before the race she passed out mid way through the race. That is why the scenery changes at 1:20. Spitfire is now hallucinating / unconscious. you can even see the ponies disappear from the balcony. At the 1:40 mark you can see spitfires color trail in lunas mane and luna suddenly looking concerned as she realized that one of the racers is dreaming MID RACE Luna and spitfire then lock eyes as she speeds off! 1:56 spitfire sees lightning dust and the cop car as a hallucination from a previous animation. and the V.S video. Each time the scene changes it isn't the race difficulty changing its a different story from spitfires life and is reliving it in her mind in her dream state. 2:43 when you see a battered racer. that is actually Spitfires childhood friend hurricane who died when they were young due to hurricane hitting a pole while drunk and sadly dying due to her injury.. When she hits the wall you can see the red outlines indicating trauma from the impact thus waking her up. 3:20 I BELIEVE is her finally accepting her friend is gone and is a sign she is escaping her inner demons. thus finally putting the past behind her at 3:50 with the sonic flame boom indicating a new start and chapter in her life. She has finally come to peace with herself and is ready to move on in life. Well done for making such a inspiring animation! everytime i watch this i get tears.

Then the music started to hit me. A few years ago, the ending started to make me cry and now I'm back here in 2021, and the first note of the song was enough to bring tears with my eyes. The best thing I've ever seen and I've seen a video of people playing skydiving football, but this is amazing! The artwork, animation, and music! While I'm still confused on why the scenery changed and what happened at the end, but still I don't care this is the most awesome thing I've seen on RUclips or anywhere! Why aren't you at a movie studio animating stuff for movies? You're an artist!
This an extremely late response to your question, but I believe the reason that the scenery changes and the meaning of the end of the video is that this is all a dream that Spitfire is having, hence Luna being there. But I totally agree!! I absolutely love Captain's animations. It's a bit disappointing that he rarely posts here anymore, but its definitely understandable if he moved on from the fandom.

+{MLP} Rainbow Dash This is basically WipEout with ponies. The cars didn't destroy themselves when they hit stuff at 600 mph, neither do the ponies. :-) (Any more then Rainbow Dash self-destructs when she executes a 20g+ turn).
Visiting this old favorite during the 2020 quarantine. I love it just as much now as much I did when I was a teenager first watching this. I remember making a synopsis of an MLP episode inspired by this video. Of course, I still remember what that idea was, so maybe I’ll act on that idea in some form.

All those references to the wipeout games were simply amazing: the wip3out HUD at the beginning, the zone mode, the fact that the pegasi in the video represent the teams in the wipeout series… FEISAR (represented by Spitfire) Auricom (the pegasus at 1:27) Goteki 45 (the one at 2:18) Piranha (the red and yellow one behind auricom, can be seen clearly at 2:39) AG-systems (the red and white one at 2:25) Icaras (the “ghost” at 2:44) Assegai (can be seen for less than a second, it’s the blue one at 2:33) and Qirex (the same as assegai, it’s the purple one at 2:33) (As a note, those 8 teams were the ones that appeared in wip3out, my favourite of the series). I seriously hope this video will win the top 10 pony videos of may 2014!
I just read the entire blog (and watched all the animations that were on it), and after doing so this video became so much better. I mean it was already a good video but put a story behind something and it becomes so much more. Not gonna lie sad I found it so late after it had already ended.
Amazing animation, I love it a lot! :D I played both the original WipeOut and its HD remaster ^^ I so love that cute "3...2...1...Go!" at 0:50!! :D Also I love the artistic design of the scenes, and all those cameos. "Phantom"... I loved it when it said that because it reminded me of those moments spent in the game :D Great story too, that wink at 3:00 was so awesome ^^ Really amazing animation overall, and quite emotional too! And I know I'm not the only one to feel that way ^^

I love that you did your research. Spitfire's finishing speed was just below the speed of sound, causing her to break the sound barrier shortly after the finish line.

Bartosz Szczyrek tbf, not many people have played wipEout 2048 as it was on the ps Vita. Which kinda flopped. Shame there will be no more wipEout games.
Actually Wipeout started on the original Playstation! It was created by Psygnosis, who were owned by Sony and went on to become SCEE Studio Liverpool. Wipeout and Wipeout 2097 were produced for the Playstation in 1995 and 1996, and Wipeout 64 was made in 1998. I have no idea why a studio owned by Sony at the time made a game for N64, and then went back to not making games for N64.
Ah okay! I didn't know that much. I know that Wipeout 64 was one of the best of the series! They kinda killed the speed factor though with Wipeout HD on the PS3....the speed factor was disappointing.
im not sure that there are any futuristic racers like this that are current on PC. wipeout is a sony game so its on playstation only. save for the first game but that came out in 1995.

Was first introduced to this back when I (being a young kid) eagerly dragged my dad into MLP. He enjoyed it, though I watched ahead of him and he lost interest after a short time. Still sad about that, but he still sends me-even today-different MLP themed music videos and other MLP things. He still loves this, and so do I. Retains that childhood that I still love, wiggling and shouting incoherent thoughts as I hug my dad and we watch The Power of Friendship be totally OP. ❤
I spent 1 hour reading the tumblr story, and an eighth of it was nonsense from Spitfire's head and 1 part was pure random. I think the parts were trying to be funny, so I give most of it a pass. The other stuff is actually pretty good, but needs refining to be a good story. I was hoping for more of a sci-fi original looking at the video and instead got a show with a sad story.
Happy 10 years to this masterpiece that still looks fresh and new. One more proof the 2010's was awesome and will makes future gen's envious of us who lived this 🎉🎂
The slight tweaks to the pitch (maybe speed too?), sound effects, and vocal samples really add a different and exciting vibe to the original. I find myself listening to this one more than the original for those edits. If there ever was a file for this version of the song separate to the video if love to see it possibly released one day. A long shot considering the age of the project, but I'll be happy with the *really* fun edit this video provides as a listening experience.

I think I've told a couple people already, but this is an animation for a comic story on a tumblr blog, so you won't exactly know what's going on unless you read all of it. No spoilers from me. (Honestly, it is still weird to think about...)
Wow, VERY nicely done! Reminds me a lot of F-Zero GX. The one they made for the Gamecube. Speeds were just about right as well. The track looked awesome, and seeing a futuristic Equestria is always cool. Way to go CaptainHoers!
Except NASCAR doesn't constantly speed up, reaching speeds over 1000 km/h, no dramatically changing racetracks, this actually has right turns, NASCAR doesn't have flying horses, and most importantly, this is actually exciting.
+Veda Sinha The reason Rainbow Dash is the only one to do a Sonic Rainboom is A: She's the only one to try and fly that fast, and B: She's the only pony we see with a rainbow tail. When she breaks the sound barrier, the pigments from her tail trail behind and outward along the 'explosion' itself. Spitfire's would.be red and yellow, such as her tail. we've seen this in the show when Rainbow is flying alongside Lightning Dust. Lightning's thunderstreak tail made a trail behind her.
Clandestine Wubs Tail color doesn't has to do with the Sonic rainboom. It does brakes the spectrum of light... Also it's called a rainboom because of the rainbow happening. Re watch the episode with the filly race and you will see that Rainbow Dash does mention clearly that the legend of the sonic Rainbow did exist before her performing it. This means some ponyelse must have created a sonic rainboom. Rd not being first/only. It's not impossible however that the performing Pony had also rainbow Mane, like Dash's parents. Maybe an ancestor? So unless this fact is resolved, both theories hold their weight. Yet given the nature of the sonic rainboom... Ps. Until the movie, which is canon to my knowledge, "bouncing" from the air was part of the rainboom. This video pre dates that. God I miss my old PS3. I got Wipeout HD Fury for free as an apology for a hack attack, and I think I played it more then anything else on the system. Unfortunately lost the old beast in a fire, and me and my brother had forgotten all of our account information and couldn't recover it.

She accelerated faster the higher she was, because of reduced air resistance at higher altitudes.

Amazing animation, I love it a lot! :D I played both the original WipeOut and its HD remaster ^^ I so love that cute "3...2...1...Go!" at 0:50!! :D Also I love the artistic design of the scenes, and all those cameos.

I love that you did your research. Spitfire's finishing speed was just below the speed of sound, causing her to break the sound barrier shortly after the finish line.

Luna joins Spitfire's dream state after noticing her dreaming to watch from within her mind
Luna causes the meteor shower (or at least one of the meteors) to hit the monster chasing Spitfire hence the blue around when it gets hit
This the only video where the music together with the animation pumps me up to do things while feeling awesome xD

ahh spitfire's colours in her wonderbolt suit match those of the feisar team from wipeout, So I'm guessing the other ponies had colour schemes to match with other teams from the games.
This was a very cool crossover 8/10.

Actually Wipeout started on the original Playstation! It was created by Psygnosis, who were owned by Sony and went on to become SCEE Studio Liverpool. Wipeout and Wipeout 2097 were produced for the Playstation in 1995 and 1996, and Wipeout 64 was made in 1998. I have no idea why a studio owned by Sony at the time made a game for N64, and then went back to not making games for N64.
Ah okay! I didn't know that much. I know that Wipeout 64 was one of the best of the series! They kinda killed the speed factor though with Wipeout HD on the PS3....the speed factor was disappointing.

im not sure that there are any futuristic racers like this that are current on PC. wipeout is a sony game so its on playstation only. save for the first game but that came out in 1995.

Was first introduced to this back when I (being a young kid) eagerly dragged my dad into MLP. He enjoyed it, though I watched ahead of him and he lost interest after a short time. Still sad about that, but he still sends me-even today-different MLP themed music videos and other MLP things. He still loves this, and so do I. Retains that childhood that I still love, wiggling and shouting incoherent thoughts as I hug my dad and we watch The Power of Friendship be totally OP. ❤

I'm in the process of reading the tumblr blog it's easier said than done
I spent 1 hour reading the tumblr story, and an eighth of it was nonsense from Spitfire's head and 1 part was pure random. I think the parts were trying to be funny, so I give most of it a pass. The other stuff is actually pretty good, but needs refining to be a good story. I was hoping for more of a sci-fi original looking at the video and instead got a show with a sad story.
Happy 10 years to this masterpiece that still looks fresh and new. One more proof the 2010's was awesome and will makes future gen's envious of us who lived this 🎉🎂

The slight tweaks to the pitch (maybe speed too?), sound effects, and vocal samples really add a different and exciting vibe to the original. I find myself listening to this one more than the original for those edits.
If there ever was a file for this version of the song separate to the video if love to see it possibly released one day. A long shot considering the age of the project, but I'll be happy with the *really* fun edit this video provides as a listening experience.

Except NASCAR doesn't constantly speed up, reaching speeds over 1000 km/h, no dramatically changing racetracks, this actually has right turns, NASCAR doesn't have flying horses, and most importantly, this is actually exciting.

A: She's the only one to try and fly that fast, and
B: She's the only pony we see with a rainbow tail.
When she breaks the sound barrier, the pigments from her tail trail behind and outward along the 'explosion' itself.
Spitfire's would.be red and yellow, such as her tail.
we've seen this in the show when Rainbow is flying alongside Lightning Dust. Lightning's thunderstreak tail made a trail behind her.

Also it's called a rainboom because of the rainbow happening.
Re watch the episode with the filly race and you will see that Rainbow Dash does mention clearly that the legend of the sonic Rainbow did exist before her performing it.
This means some ponyelse must have created a sonic rainboom. Rd not being first/only.
It's not impossible however that the performing Pony had also rainbow Mane, like Dash's parents.
Maybe an ancestor?
So unless this fact is resolved, both theories hold their weight.
Yet given the nature of the sonic rainboom... In which you clearly see white in the middle of the explosion, I think this proves that infect the light spectrum is broken.

I got Wipeout HD Fury for free as an apology for a hack attack, and I think I played it more then anything else on the system.
Unfortunately lost the old beast in a fire, and me and my brother had forgotten all of our account information and couldn't recover it.
