I'll be darned, I went to install my freshly rebuilt NP246 only to find out I am an idiot. When I pulled it I left the tcase in 4wd. However, the computer reverted to neutral. I couldn't reinstall the encoder as it was in 4hi.
I searched the internet FOREVER and could find NO solution so I resorted to taking the encoder motor apart. It was fairly simple from there. I could move the encoder with the motor shaft so it was back in the neutral position.
This video is how I accomplished that.
This is similar to the NP263, NP136, and NP236 that are found on General Motors GMT800 and GMT400 trucks. They are on light duty and heavy duty trucks. The NP246 is the all wheel drive system for these chassis.
Those include but are not limited to S10 Blazer, Tahoe, Suburban, Denali, Escalade, Silverado, Sierra, Trailblazer, and other setups that utilized the 4L60E with either 4.3L v6 or Gen III small block chevy, aka LS motors. It's on some Gen II Small Block Chevy setups too.
    Hope the video helps.
