If ya'll don't accept trans people, fine, but this video isn't about being forced to date them etc. It's about how trans people should be accepted to have the right to FEEL SAFE. Which a lot of trans people *don't.* Imagine everyday/night walking down the street wondering whether or not you're going to get bashed or mugged simply for your personal identity? That's fucking terrifying.
I don’t think it’s fine to not accept trans people and I wanna be sure that you don’t think being trans is a choice but being brave enough to express their authentic selves is. Otherwise, I completely agree with you!
I smile at everyone. If they don't smile back, that's their problem. I can only be myself. The girl in this video is gorgeous. It doesn't matter whether or not a transgender person "passes", but as far as I can tell, she passes. I'm surprised anyone would assume she's trans.

You choose the behavior you choose the consequences. If a hairy man wants to walk down the street in a dress, then people will give him the side eye. Walk down the street in a clown outfit then tell me I’m wrong. The logic of transgenderism is that we should ignore basic facts cause they may hurt someones feelings. Like the fact that the word gender is a synonym for sex and has been for 100s of years, or the fact that they don’t look like, act like, or actually do anything like women. You are literally judging people right now for thinking this weird delusion is BS making you a hypocrite. If you live in a culture that’s judgement free, then you’ll end up having murderers walking the streets freely. That’s where it leads.
Going after a straight man yea for sure it will not have positive feedback. He is straight. If a bi man approaches them they feel insulted because it’s a bi man and feel invalidated. Why a straight man it’s okay to be invalidated but a trans it’s not okay? They say be your true self, but they don’t want to be their true self, they want to be something else, which is fine, but you can’t force everyone to align with your self perception
@@nyumyu4265 can you elaborate on that or you avoid all rational comments and simply move to insult? A straight man tells you he likes women and not trans women, he is labeled transphobic for that. I agree leave them alone. Let trans people walk around as whatever they want to be. No problem with that at all. My ONLY issue with trans people are they want us to turn drop our beliefs in our strict binary gendered universe and embrace their multi-gendered universe. I think some of the nonhateful response in the comments is coming from the fact that you took a camera out and filmed people's reactions and then read into them negatively. When you are insecure (in both senses, including not feeling safe) you're more likely to project what you're feeling onto other people. Brandi's interview was much more reasonable. She didn't assume everyone found her unattractive or that they were uncomfortable. Also, in NYC you should expect most people to be walking around with RBF.
When you see a piece of driftwood in Louisiana, it probably is not an alligator, but that does not mean that your gut reaction is any less understandable when you're shaken, thinking you'll get your arm torn off. Trans women get enough comments, derisive stares, and threats of assault to condition them to read looks that *may* be neutral as negative. In addition to that, most trans women know how people react when you look gender conforming, so they'll have practice in knowing when people read them as gender non-conforming. The point of combining the shots of people's looks with the commentary about negative reactions was not to accuse the people in those shots of being transphobic, but to give you an insight into what it's like to be looked at as a trans woman and never knowing, always having these thoughts. Practice just a little bit of empathy and critical thinking.
@@obermegalutschoar I dont think the staring as shown in this video is anywhere near reality. Thats just not how people act. My mom beat me for 13-14 year’s because when I was 3 or 4 (my first memories) is of my mom beating me and telling me I am not a girl. She kicked me out of the house at 16. I thought I was a freak and tried the “male thing”, I just wound up trying to commit suicide multiple times. I am 64 not and although I am transitioning now at times I still feel like a freak as everyone knows the gender I was born into and that according to them I must be a freak. Ok the one thing I dont like about this video is showing peoples reactions, We dont actually know what theyre looking at or what theyre thinking but this is making these strangers look bad. I stare at people when I walk around, Im not judging or being a dick about it but I like people watching.
I think the director of the film is just using the stares to artistically represent the paranoia trans people feel when being stared at. The slowness of the camera and the focus of the shot being centered in on the stare with the background blurred really drives the point home that they were looking. I did not get from this that the director was trying to make any opinion of the people starring and implying that they are thinking negative thoughts against the people they are starring at. What I got from this is that regardless of what these people were thinking that these trans people have to process this on a daily basis and wonder what other people are thinking about them while they're being starred at, even if it's just to look. I think this is mainly to emphasis the uncomfortableness of it all. I've had to speak in front of an audience of 200 people before. It's not the most comfortable feeling in the world.
You get so many stares like that when you're trans. It's not just one or two people and there's no way to say what they're thinking, but they're staring at you, and you can't say that people just have to pretend it's not happening because that's not how it works.

Some of the stares might be bigotry, or something, sure. But, I believe a lot of that is just paranoia... for good reason in this point in time, but paranoia none the less. I think the bulk of it is more likely people giving the stink-eye for completely unrelated shit, like someone's outfit, getting within their personal bubble, or simply looking at them. People are getting more and more hands off, and I doubt cities are any better. Also, attraction comes hand in hand with stares.
A relationship between a son and the father is an important bond that passes down morals and values. And with a mother, children learn how to be compassionate and empathetic. It prevents people from going overboard into a self-indulgent down spiral of dopamine rushes. Without traditional values or morals, people submit themselves to acts of pleasure of which they create their own values in order to be contempt with doing those actions. Instead of actively trying to better themselves, it's easier to be contemptuous with being sick and you can't do anything to change it. The idea you should accept everyone for who they want to be has unleashed ideological diseases that corrupt minds into a weakness. There are two types of people who profit from spreading diseases. People in power such as government, and big corporations, who know it's easier to control weak-minded citizens, and the mentally ill who seek nothing but gratification from a community of like-minded degenerates, the corrupted youth. The powerful people spread it by advertising it on their logos, their commercials, and on social media. The powerful people gain the high ground out of their competitors with their newfound “correct morality “ that the mob is so easily inclined to love. The weak spread it in order to fulfill a meaningless purpose of being kind with “acceptance”. It does nothing to empower or to encourage people to improve themselves. They invent spectrums and transgenderism in order to explain the new found mental problems they acquired from a poor family structure. Of which they seek newer more complicated identifiers to find their place in society. They require more gratification, like it’s a drug. It's easier to create less intricated, easier to understand, and “morally correct” reasons on a foundation of “acceptance” than to explain and maintain traditional ones that have been passed down for generations. For example “love is love” is a simple and widely accepted term as “be with who you want to be with”, but where is the limit? Can people love animals? Children? How can this “love” not be a pervasive lust for a relationship from a desperate mentally ill human being? As time goes on, values without morals corrupt the youth as there are no standards. The importance of historical figures and their lessons will in time be removed due to the disease wanting to erase the past so as to completely eradicate any possibility of a philosophical antidote arising. The fewer restrictions the disease has to go through, the more it can multiply until it destroys society. It's human nature for our eyes to be drawn to things that stand out, that are different from our expectations. When most people see a male body with a female presentation, their brain experiences a mismatch and is startled, trying to evaluate the situation and make sure it's safe. As social and tribal creatures, humans are well-evolved to sniff out people who are pretending to be something they are not, similar to the uncanny valley. This process can result either in the brain deciding that there is no threat and letting it's guard down, or it can heighten feelings of fear, disgust, and anger to motivate you to move away from the undesired stimulus. From the outside, if you're insecure, this unconcious surprise-deciding process looks a lot like a death stare.
@@makoosh3448 I don't disagree at all. These trends that don't prioritize having kids usually die off. Life shouldn't be only about have kids and family and no individualism outside of that either. Ballance is needed.
@Chris Jones you know gender dysphoria really is a thing. Educate yourself instead of being ignorant. The fact that men like you think that the whole world resolves around to think people would really wanna trick you lmao
Never feel ashamed when people don't know you are trans and hit on you. You don't have to disclose that information if you don't want to. Anyone who feels that you have to reveal you are trans to a person thinks that there is something inherently "homosexual" or "gay" being with a trans person. What draws you to a trans person is not the qualities of them being the same gender as you. It was the qualities of the opposite gender that drew you to them. So, if you think you are "gay" or "being tricked" because you are interacting with a trans person, you need to pause and think what drew you to that person? Was it the desire of being with the same gender or the opposite gender? If the answer was looking for the opposite gender, welcome to being just your regular straight self.
Rookielove1 and you are entitled to you opinion, but this also means you have a very limited view on gender. I'm not going to sit here and explain why that is problematic. If you want to know, watch Trans 101 with Chase Ross. If you want to stay ignorant, you do you sweetie. We have no more to discuss.
No I’m sorry I disagree. If I dated somebody and they told me much later on that they’re trans I would be extremely upset. They are people and human beings, they deserve to be loved and respected and I deserve to be told the truth. Hiding it from somebody is sneaky and dirty. We aren’t all born just accepting these ideologies, some of us are a little uncomfortable with it and are working on trying to be more accepting, and we deserve to be told the truth
For anyone one who is trans or is in the lgbtq+ community, this is what I live by. "Haters gonna hate, when we show up, we get the sexy mission done" Everyone is handsome or beautiful in their own way. Don't let these phobic scaredy cats control who you are. Be yourself, no matter WHAT anyone says!❤❤
I think we all have insecurities and think that we can read peoples minds when they look at us. But we don’t know what they are really thinking. They could be admiring our clothing or our make up. We can’t just assume they want to attack us. It’s good to be aware but thinking the worst will only attract that. Im a women and I’ve been getting looked at since I was 13. Be aware not afraid.
I’m glad one of the individuals highlighted that this is all psychological, because there’s no definite way to tell what anyone is thinking. People look at other people all the time, what you assume they could be thinking is either based on your security or insecurity. Nothing more nothing less unless the passerby clearly has some sort of expression on their face that’s universally understood to be negative, or they actually voice how they feel.
I’ll be honest, besides a few weird looks and mean comments and laughs here and there, it really hasn’t been too bad for me, and some of those could’ve been about something else entirely (some of them were obviously about me being trans, though). I came out last year, so maybe things are getting better or maybe I pass well enough that most people don’t even realize I’m trans, but it hasn’t been too horrible for me tbh
These women are amazing and gorgeous. As a transgender guy, hearing their stories made me very emotional and upset at the state of the world. I can relate to their stories as well, but in some ways more than others. I try to walk very fast so people don’t get a good look at me, and even though I’m closeted and pre-T, I very desperately want to look male. So I think to myself: if I just don’t speak, look them in the eyes, or show my appearance, they might think I’m a guy. And when people hear my high pitched voice, they have a lot of questions, from “are you a boy or girl?” to telling me I am a girl, to treating me like an “SJW” aggressive lesbian even though I don’t mention anything about my political views or sexuality. If I were to wish anything, it would be that people stop gendering and assuming things about me based on my appearance. Not a single person who has made assumptions about my appearance has clarified with me if they were right, they just assume because they’re cishet that they’re correct. When I’m in public I get this anxiety a lot, which is why I don’t go out much (I live in a very conservative country too), but people who see you on a regular basis and think they know me still think they have the right to be subtly transphobic. It frustrates me to no end, especially because their opinions on lgbtq people are negative and unchangeable, and of course I’m the victim because of that. If transphobes could live one day as a transgender person and experience the struggles we do, they would change their minds, but until then…

Life is hard period. for everyone. There are people who live on the street, drug addicts, starvation in 3rd world Countries, This is a choice that was made by you, so you best develop a thick skin and deal with it. People will always look and stare because it's not normal. I'm not trying to be mean, but people can't help to stare because you look unnatural, no matter how much make up, hair, extensions, nails, and skimpy clothes you wear, you still look unauthentic. It takes more courage to be who you really are and work from there. To be happy with yourself. Now *that's* loving yourself forreal.
As a regular woman I know it doesn’t take away fear of violence but, if trans women could just know, people look at women. A woman on stage with a band of men will always be the most magnetic person. People look at and are drawn to feminine energy. So it may be partly because you are coming across as feminine that people look at you.
It kills me to see all these negative comments on this video. Transgender people have valid reasons to be paranoid when walking out in public. Transgender women were being killed because they’re trans. They get rude stares just because they look/are different from ‘societal norm’. I personally have experienced this, and I’m only 14. I get clear, disgusted stares from strangers who drive past me while I wait for the bus just because I wear my preferred clothing. Don’t go around bashing people saying that their paranoia is warranted. Do you know what it’s like to be treated like like this? No? Then you don’t have a right to judge them.
Women get killed because they are women. Tens of thousands a year. Rude stares for many women is a societal norm. They are men who want to be called "women" but also want the male privilege that goes along with being a man. Why should they get both, when women don't?
@@kai-jm7bb are you hearing yourself? dignity and basic respect is mutual, no matter what you identify as. male privilege? cis women also want to be treated as equals to men, it’s not exclusive, you know!
People are people regardless of their gender. Everyone deserves respect. I feel so bad for The LGBTQ community. No one should be mistreated for being who they are. I am pretty sure this is just a visual depiction of what they perceive while walking down the street, not an actual real-time social experiment of it happening.
Pretty pretty accurate, as a Young trans women I had felt that paranoia of people looking judging our looks because of Male-born traits the 99% of times I go out, also always thinking that every time some one tell me pretty, they do it because feeling bad for me and doesn't wanting to make me feel sad

I understand the struggle because i get the same feeling but im female to male so its slightly easier but you never know what people are thinking. They may think your trans but they may think ok cool or they may look and smile in a nice way. You can never know what people are thinking .sure there are mean people but they may have positive thoughts when you think theyre negative
And the only ones left to profit are the people pulling the strings from positions of government that were put there by people thinking they were doing the right thing, but for all the wrong reasons..
@@makoosh3448 nobody is gonna read that comment. You have too much time on your hands to type out that whole essay of propaganda and conspiracy theory.
The men who react badly or violently after discovering that you are trans or after being slighted for talking to a transwoman by a heterosexual man or woman are clearly just not confident in having their sexuality questioned. And to be honest most men aren't confident in this way. I'm pretty open and liberal and would never react badly, but I might want to have the last word where I let it be known that I'm heterosexual, and I imagine this is something that is deep-seated within almost all men. Some of the men who react badly may also be sexually interested in transwomen but not want to admit this to the world.
It's not bad for a man to be insecure in their sexuality. How often do they interact with homosexuals or transgenders? The sudden realization that it's actually a guy they're talking to us startling I'm sure too.

As a cis woman, this brought me back to my teenage years… is my nose too big? Legs too fat? Got to wear heels because of my tree stump legs. I wonder how much of the anxiety is misogyny and how much is transphobia. Double whammy. These beautiful women deserve so much more from society.
Keep in mind that you didn’t go through a male puberty, while many of us did. So it just adds layers upon layers of insecurity on top of the already high levels of anxiety that we all as women feel.
I am not a transgender but from my childhood, I still question things about inequality and injustice, including the patriarchy brainwashing and hypocrisy of our society. Quite late, because only few years ago I decided to finally express who I really am. In my heart, I always was a gender-bender, who adores feminine and androgynous look. Expressing yourself with fashion is such a powerful and tribal thing (I fell in love with Derek's look completely!). Great thing is that my partner supports me fully, and that's really powerful. But streets are different, and as long as I don't want anyone around me to feel uncomfortable and I am definitely afraid of any assaults, in the end I am the one who's feeling uncomfortable and just not in the right place. I am pushing it forward, including my dull and uniformed working place. If you think about it, it's just few attributes here and there, all on your skin, not someone's else, attached to your body, not someone's else. It's you who have the full autonomy, to think the way you think, to feel the way you feel and to perceive the world the way you do. No one should have a doubt those beautiful human beings are really brave, and deserve a lot of respect.
Try being a cis woman who's 6'2" with broad shoulders and narrow hips. I'm 100% female and identify as such. Once, when I was a teenager, we were in a coffee shop and I had my legs stretched out under the table with my feet on the seat across from me. The waitress kept say "Sir! Sir!" I didn't respond, cuz I'm not "sir," so she continues, "Sir, or ma'am, or whatever you are... Please get your feet off the seat!" What?!? The?!? Actual?!? F***?!? "Whatever you are"?!? Like the fact that the word gender is a synonym for sex and has been for 100s of years, or the fact that they don’t look like, act like, or actually do anything like women. You are literally judging people right now for thinking this weird delusion is BS making you a hypocrite.
TheSongwritingCat Seriously. Take a camera out and judge people. Awesome way to behave.
Theo Dious lol ikr no self awareness
RBF? Reel Big Fish? I love that band! You know I'll walk around wearing their t-shirts!
Most people dont stare for long periods of time at anyone because they know its considered rude. The other thing is, most people dont care and they have much more important things on their minds.

@Chris Jones that’s something someone gay would say
They really need to mention that even though all these women and people look very pretty and passable now, ALL of them have "looked like a man" at some point, and that previous experience is the cause of the a lot of the paranoia. You can tell how well you pass, just like you can't really hear what your own voice sounds like, and how much you pass can change depending on what you're wearing or where you are
Asher Scott I reckon they all look horrible
Asher Scott Not one of them looks like a woman.
Asher Scott "passable"? As what?
no ,not necessarily they looked like men before but people tell you ,you do even when you don't ,it's their way to force you to stay the gender convenient for them to be or just be mean.
Who the hell is hating on the corniest man of all times. Like a man who literally wants to be a woman. Which is a feat they can't accomplish. No matter how many operations body alterations that one's does. A man is still just a man. Point blank period. A man is a man is a man. Just because a man call himself a woman. Acts like a woman. They still not no goddamn woman. On my soul. They can't get pregnant like woman. They can't breast feed. They simply just wannabe woman. Point blank period.
As a gay male myself this makes me so sad because they’re all so beautiful and they seems so genuine that it isn’t fair for them to have to feel so unsafe just walking. As a person from NYC myself too as I’ve grown up I’ve become more confident in walking around the city but still have some fear. I wouldn’t walk around by myself though and that is definitely a problem

I'm a gay man but I don't need to force people to use special made up pronouns to address me. Me being gay does not ask anyone to do anything but leave me alone and let me live my life with my gay peers in peace. Trans gender people want the world to stop using customary gendered pronouns or else. I don't think they will win this battle. It's like prohibition outlawing alcohol.

And the only ones left to profit are the people pulling the strings from positions of government that were put there by people thinking they were doing the right thing, but for all the wrong reasons..

Well said. I concur.
ready to glare brought me here
I’m glad one of the individuals highlighted that this is all psychological, because there’s no definite way to tell what anyone is thinking.
If transphobes could live one day as a transgender person and experience the struggles we do, they would change their minds, but until then…
6:57 Exactly. Thank you so much for making this video and interviewing all these amazing people! There is NOTHING wrong w being transgender, and it seriously sucks how just genuine human beings like these people get judged and attacked just because this. Life is hard period. for everyone.
There are people who live on the street, drug addicts,
starvation in 3rd world Countries, This is a choice that was made
by you, so you best develop a thick skin and deal with it. People will always
look and stare because it's not normal. I'm not trying to be mean, but people
can't help to stare because you look unnatural, no matter how much make up, hair,
extensions, nails, and skimpy clothes you wear, you still look unauthentic. It takes more courage
to be who you really are and work from there.
They safe with me but I will not give them credit as a woman EVER! Ppl stare periodT and nobody is safe in this cruel world of evil.
Yes times are changing and people just need to except that. When I see trans people I see strength and bravery and admiration. It takes a lot of heart to be who you are and not everyone can admit that or handle that.

I am pretty sure this is just a visual depiction of what they perceive while walking down the street, not an actual real-time social experiment of it happening.
Transphobia hurts everyone
Pretty pretty accurate, as a Young trans women I had felt that paranoia of people looking judging our looks because of Male-born traits the 99% of times I go out, also always thinking that every time some one tell me pretty, they do it because feeling bad for me and doesn't wanting to make me feel sad

Thank you educating me of an experience that’s different than mine.
And the only ones left to profit are the people pulling the strings from positions of government that were put there by people thinking they were doing the right thing, but for all the wrong reasons..

@@50shadesofprada22 yes is it anything is possible it just depends how determined you are to actually do it.
Please get your feet off the seat!"
What?!? The?!? Actual?!? F***?!? "Whatever you are"?!?
So remember, it's not just you. Don't take someone else's ignorance personal. Everybody feels like everyone is looking at them and judging them.
