@parishofrock for the win! Rockpile was a great band! Not sure how big they were here in the states (I was 3 in 1979) but Seconds of Pleasure is a must own album. “Sure Know Something” is a cool choice. KISS in 79 seems to get written off as a disco band, but Dynasty is an excellent album. “Waiting for an alibi” is one of Lizzy’s best “Shot Down in flames” is my fave off of H2H “Video killed the radio Star” the entire album is wonderful too “Carouselambra” great choice

Stiff Little Fingers - Suspect Device
David Bowie - Look Back In Anger
Iggy Pop - Five Foot One
The Buzzcocks - You Say You Don’t Love Me
The Specials - Little Bitch

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers - Even The Losers
The Police - No Time This Time
Wire - The 15th
Elvis Costello and The Attractions - Green Shirt
Magazine - Rhythm of Cruelty
The Clash - Guns Of Brixton
Madness - The Prince
Lots of great choices there. I love When Your Young but decided to go with 1 song per artist, otherwise my top 10 would only have been AC/DC, Cheap Trick & The Jam.
@@parishofrock2963 thanks, I could have put Cheap Trick and AC/DC in my honorable mentions for sure, but I decided to go with the bands that were big influences on me from that year.
@@sspbrazil absolutely.
@@sspbrazil I get that. I took a similar approach.
Graham Parker and the Rumour. passion is no ordinary word
Some great choices. Charisma would be my pick for a Kiss song
Love it when Martin does the UK new wave/punk thing and loses the room 😅
I suspect he wasn’t the only one 🤣
I like that direction . . . .
Grant should've hosted this, oh I forgot....he already DID this show on his channel...🤔🤔😵💫😬😆🫵🎼
10. Clampdown - The Clash
9. Just the Same Way - Journey
8. Bad Girls - Donna Summer
7. Passion is No Ordinary Word - Graham Parker
6. I Really Don't Know Anymore - Christopher Cross
5. The Eton Rifles - The Jam
4. The Bed's Too Big WIthout You - The Police
3. Flirtin' with Disaster - Molly Hatchet
2. This is It - Kenny Loggins
1. Dream Police - Cheap Trick
Love your list. Cheap Trick, The Police & The Jam hard to argue with that!
@@parishofrock2963 Thank you Parish! I love yours as well!
@@JohntheMusicNut thanks.
Hell bent for leather, Priest.
Kiss, Acdc, Pink Floyd, Motorhead(if u want blood, human touch, comfortably numb, overkill)
AC/DC are opening with If You Want Blood on the current tour - what a classic!
Alien soundtrack
Interesting choice.
Martin’s got Europeans saying “boooogie!”
I’m surprised nobody called out Parish of Rock. Gary Richrath (R.I.P.) was the guitar player, not bass.
Plenty have since 🤣! I should have said Bruce Hall. I’m putting it down to getting old!!!
Martin, wrong. Drums And Wires is their best!
Stiff Little Fingers Suspect Device and Alternative Ulster. The Undertones Jimmy Jimmy and I know s Girl. The Ruts Babylon's Burning and In a Rut. I could go one and I haven't even got to The Dickies and Germs.
Some great choices. Babylon Is Burning is my no. 11
1. THE CLASH - London Calling
2. PRETENDERS - Kid
3. THE MEMBERS - The Sound Of The Suburbs
4. THE DISTRACTIONS - Time Goes By So Slow
5. KIRSTY McCOLL - They Don't Know
6. ELVIS COSTELLO - Oliver's Army
7. THE SPECIAL AKA - Gangsters
8. THE RAINCOATS - Fairytale In The Supermarket
9. ELVIS COSTELLO - Senior Service
10. THE CLASH - Pressure Drop
Kid’s a great choice. I have Stop Your Sobbing in my top 20
@@parishofrock2963 Also great! I guess I could have picked half of the tracks off the first Pretenders album.
@@beetlebum7760 agreed. I saw them live at the Hammersmith Palais around this time. They were excellent.
“Waiting for an alibi” is one of Lizzy’s best
“Shot Down in flames” is my fave off of H2H
“Video killed the radio Star” the entire album is wonderful too
“Carouselambra” great choice
Thanks for the win. Video Killed The Radio Star is in my top 20.
Waiting For An Alibi is one of my top Thin Lizzy songs. Black Rose was a great album, my favorite.
@@dvg4104 totally agree, my favourite Thin Lizzy album too.
Someone should have mentioned Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker." It launched her career
ZZ TOP Degueilo Man! 🤪 This whole album is perfection!
Great album. 1st time I saw them was on this tour. Loved them ever since.
D-Light > Weekend Love, cmon man!
Never listen to the critics!
Does anyone else like martins honorable mentions way better than his picks ? Lok
Fun episode! My top ten might look something like this:
. Chris de Burgh - Crusader
. Charlie Dore - Pilot Of The Airwaves
. Dan Fogelberg - Beggar's Game
. Kansas - A Glimpse Of Home
. KISS - Magic Touch
. Lindisfarne - Good To Be Here?
. REO Speedwagon - Meet Me On The Mountain (quick note: Bruce Hall sang Back On The Road Again)
. Styx - Boat On The River
. Tantrum - Applaud The Winner
. Triumph - Lay It On The Line
Some great choices. & well for done for picking up on my deliberate mistake 🤪 it is Bruce Hall.
@@parishofrock2963 Cheers! Easily done, mixing up Bruce & Gary, especially since the latter did a few lead vocals on some of their earlier records!
@@carlwmpylu cheers. I put it down to getting old!
@@parishofrock2963 I know the feeling! 🙂
Commenting before watching--Someone had better mention Supertramp...arguably the biggest artist on the planet that year
About 36 minute mark--Gary Richrath(RIP)was REO Speedwagon's lead guitarist, not bassist
Thanks for mentioning Kansas Tim
You’re right, it was Bruce Hall the bassist that sang BOTRA. I’m getting old….
1. ac/dc touch too much
2. ac/dc beating around the bush
3. electric light orchestra last train to london
4. aerosmith no surprize
5. van halen dance the night away
6. triumph lay it on the line
7. eagles heartache tonight
8. the charlie daniels band the devil went down to georgia
9. tom petty and the heartbreakers refugee
10. bad company rock n roll fantasy
For a man who writes tons of books about heavy metal, Martin doesn't seem to like the genre that much.
Rock Lobster is still cringe af even today.
As always Reed comes with the most unique and interesting approach!
Green Manalishi, by Priest
REO song was sung by bassist Bruce Hall , not Gary Richrath
Well done for picking up on my deliberate mistake 🤪 of course you’re right it is Bruce Hall.
