Last month had some very good metal releases. The new Job for a Cowboy is currently my favorite of the year. I also really liked the new Spectral Voice, Chelsea Wolfe, Ihsahn, Borknagar, and Hulder albums as well.
Jan was sort of a slump, then Feb came out swinging. Cheers mate! Have a splendid weekend!
Lots of overlap, my Feb favs:
Job For A Cowboy - moon healer
Chelsea Wolfe - she reaches out to she reaches out to she
Bipolar Architecture - metaphysicize
Inferious - salt your earth
Atoll - inhuman implant
Hey! Great minds! Cheers bro.
I really think Ihsahn, Borknagar and Job For A Cowboy won the month for me! I knew what I was getting myself into when I spun Chapel of Disease’s new record because I really loved their 2018 album. Necrowretch impressed me! And I also loved the debut EP of German traditional heavy metal band Writhen Hilt called Ancient Sword Cult that should appeal to fans of the NWOTHM (bands like Eternal Champion and Megaton Sword) and the new two-song EP by Dutch atmospheric/melodic black metal band Morvigor that has crazy dynamics!
I’m so glad Chapel made me a new fan. What a fantastic album. Have a great weekend bro!
thanks for the Writhen Hilt recommendation, I will for sure check them out. I love Megaton Sword and Eternal Champion!
@@finq0997No problem!
@@forgemastermetalYou too, guys!
Another great vid.....I have "discovered" so many albums and bands through your content, all I can say is thank you for some great, varied work!
Oh man! The Borknagar and Ihsahn are on my best of list 2024 so far. Man there's a number of other albums it sounds like I need to hop on! As always thanks for the monthly list here!
You guys always give me my fix on melo death and death doom. Many bands here to check out, thanks guys.
Thank you guys, fockin' heavy sound for the weekend.
Hope it’s an epic weekend my dude.
Love the Spectral Voice album, they along with Fossilization, Burial, and Void Rot are really carving out a great scene of atmospheric death doom that just crushes.
Absolutely man. So good.
I have enjoyed every album on your list! You guys have Awesome taste in Metal👍🤘🤘
Hell yeah man! Have a killer weekend!
Borknagar-Fall
They Came From Visions-The Twilight Robes.
I'm probably getting some new favorites after checking out some of the albums, highlighted in this video, that escaped my attention (the Romovus, Obsidian tongue and Necrowretch releases). Great work guys, as always!!!
Morbid Saint - Swallowed By Hell came out in February and is my pick for best thrash metal album of 2024.
Hard to believe Farsot didn't make your list.
Easy. Didn’t hear it.
as always thanks for these videos my dudes
You bet. Have a glorious weekend!
Kind of surprised you didn't mention Counting Hour's The Wishing Tomb. It has all those doomy vibes that just makes ya feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.
We got into that one too late! One of our favorites. It'll probably show up in a mid-year list.
I just want to say a resounding THANK YOU for what you guys are doing here. You're undeniably one of my very favorite channels because you cover the bands and albums people need to hear, and unearthing gems I might not find out about anywhere else. This month was fucking STACKED, and Spectral Voice, Job for a Cowboy, and Chelsea Wolfe are all early AOTY contenders
I would also add Darkest Hour's "Perpetual Terminal" to the list, it's a stellar record.
Well played guys, another awesome show! My favourite album of the month is Borknagars Fall. The more I spin it the more I love it. Sooo many differente colours, textures and layers that I hear something new everytime... Gotta give Romuvos - Spirits, Obsidian Tongue - The Stone Hearts and Hulder - Verses In Oath a spin. Keep on Rockin and keep it Metal 🤘🖤🤘
Cheers bro, hope you have a magnanimously awesome weekend
Ihsahn S/T and The Obsessed Gilded Sorrow are probably my favourite February releases.
But I still need to jam a bunch of the albums you guys brought up.
Feb was insane with the amount of great releases. I’ve got a running list I missed as well, haha. Have a dope weekend man!
Very nice list. Just listened to chapel of disease again today. It’s infectious. Really like the Necrowretch. That’s my favourite of the month. Job really surprised me. I was not a fan, but now am. Thanks for putting together. Will check out the couple I have not heard…
Love it! That necrowretch album is lightning in a bottle. Practically perfect imo.
Faves...Hand of Kalliach, Borknagar, Job for a Cowboy. But Necrowretch is my fave this month. Blew me away. Demonic and Melodic at the same time.
I dont know how you guys and other channels review so many albums. I cant keep up. Im still enjoying my 2023 faves.
Now I'm off to check out Bipolar Architecture because it sounds like my kind of thing. This is one of the reasons I love these videos, I've genuinely discovered awesome bands because of you guys.
I’m glad you found something man! Have a fantastic weekend!
All great picks! My favorites of February, in no particular order, include:
Borknagar "Fall"
Ihsahn "Ihsahn"
Job For A Cowboy "Moon Healer"
Far Beyond "The End Of The Road"
Hand Of Kalliach "Corryvreckan"
Thy Shining Curse "Theurgia"
and my biggest surprise so far this year would be the debut album by Ad Nihilum "An Escape For The Guilty"
How to make watching the forge mates more metal? Drink a nice cup of tea with a cherry Bakewell on the side, delightful.
Have a good weekend both 🤘
That is unbelievably metal! Have a killer weekend my friend!

Thanks for sharing man. My favorite part of these videos is finding new music from people in the comments. Have a killer weekend my dude!
Job for a Cowboys is easily my fav of the year so far. Great stuff guys. Cheers
Thanks bro! Have a killer weekend!
Echoes of Eternity by Hannes Grossmann blows my mind.
Did you guys not hear the absolutely STUNNING album from Eternal Storm-A Giant Bound To Fall? Released February 16. My cohost for the Harsh Vocals podcast and I can’t stop raving about this album. I know it’s early in the year but this album is one of those records that will stick with you the entire year. If you haven’t heard, please please please check it out. It really deserves to be talked about a LOT more.
We can't listen to everything, unfortunately, but really appreciate your passion for great music! Keep spreading the word.
Throne of Thorns - Parallel Converging Worlds
Iron Curtain - Savage Dawn
Traveler - Prequel to Madness

Thanks bud, that means the world. Hope you have a killer weekend
Thumbs up for that sweet fuggin Novembre shirt 👍
Thx for this new video as always some great discoveries!
Borknagar is just amazing they really pushed themselves very far, what a fucking journey this album is!
Yeah, one of their best records. What are you most excited for in March?
Borknagar and the latest Dickinson
Sick stuff. I hadn't heard of Bipolar Architecture but I'm going to have to check that album out. Here are my favorites of February.
1. Job for a Cowboy - Moon Healer (progressive death metal/technical death metal)
2. Necrowretch - Swords of Dajjal (melodic black metal/melodic death metal)
3. Ihsahn - Ihsahn (progressive metal/symphonic black metal)
4. They Came from Visions - The Twilight Robes (atmospheric black metal/melodic black metal/dark folk)
5. Griffon - De Republica (melodic black metal/pagan black metal)
6. Hulder - Verses In Oath (melodic black metal/atmospheric death metal)
7. Keres - Homo Homini Lupus (blackened death metal f.f.o. Hath, Wake)
8. Farsot - Life Promised Death (post-black metal)
9. Aeonist - Votum Silentii (atmospheric black metal/dungeon synth)
10. Praise the Plague - Suffocating in the Current of Time (atmospheric post-black metal)
Chapel of Disease and JFAC were very bigly anticipated albums for me for February, and both of them met or exceeded my monthly metal needs ! Ihsahn, Persefone, Romuvos, Hannes Grossman, Borknagar and Bipolar Architecture were great as well !
Bigly anticipated lmao
Have you heard the new Suldusk? It, with Job for a Cowboy, were the standouts for me this month. (I have 3 more albums from your list on vinyl though, keeping the pace up! RIP wallet!)
I’ve got a backlog from Feb to get to. That’s on the list. I’ve heard nothing but great things.
Borknagar and Chapel Of Disease are faves, and i really enjoy the new Chainsword album Born Triumphant, and Stygian Crown -Funeral For A King
Those later 2 you listed are on my checkout list
Ihsahn was great, but I'll have to add to my list bands like
Axiomatic Dematerialization album. Then there was LVME and Hasturian Vigil. Some others aswell, but I can't keep up with all these albums 😂
It's almost like there's too much good music out there hahah. Thanks for the comment, Forgemate!
my little top of the month
1. Borknagar - Fall
A majestic and complex, emotional release of anger and beauty that makes you want to take up a sword and battle for the glory of Odin! It’s one of ICS Vortex’s absolute best performance. I’m literally addicted to this album.
2. Job for a Cowboy - Moon Healer
Wow… this might end up being my n.1, even at the end of the year! That 10 years of waiting was completely worth it! Absolutely everything is perfect: the song writing, the production, every instrument is played masterfully. Instant progressive death metal classic!
3. Ihsahn - Ihsahn
This is art! Not confined in any particular box, Ihsahn takes us on a journey in his genius mind. It combines beautiful orchestrations with progressive black metal and avant garde. It’s two disc (one metal and one orchestral), which gives it an infinite re-listenability.
4. Traveler - Prequel To Madness
This is pure, extra fun, modern heavy metal! This Calgary based band offers us their third album and it’s everything you could wish for! Soaring high vocals, dual guitars harmonizing shredding solos, catchy as fuck choruses, extremely fast and energetic drumming and a huge bass sound to tie everything together. Best modern heavy metal I’ve heard in a long time, if ever!
5. Chapel of Disease - Echoes of Light
Ever wonder what prog rock mixed with heavy metal and growled vocals would sound like? Well, you don’t have to wonder anymore! Chapel of Disease truly outdid themselves here. It’s complex yet catchy, dark yet full of light, aggressive yet sometimes, beautiful and tranquil and it simply… Rocks!
6. Hulder - Verses In Oath
The queen of medieval darkness, Marliese Beeuwsaert aka Hulder, is back with her second album! It’s a masterful mix of haunting atmospheres, fierce and raw brutality and a touch of melody interwoven everywhere in the album. This album will propel her into the all time best of black metal.
7. Vorga - Beyond The Palest Star
This is probably what the interstellar void feels like. This album feels grandiose, peaceful but, at times, hectic and aggressive! It’s the perfect blend of atmosphere, melody and raw aggressivity! Such a great month for black metal! Also, the cover art in insane! Magnificent work by Adam Burke.
8. Spectral Voice - Sparagmos
This IS death/doom! It’s crushingly slow and oppressive mixed with faster bits and pieces sprinkled everywhere all with this sublime atmosphere. You always have a sense of dread, waiting to see what lies beyond the next corner! Masterful work!
9. Hand Of Kalliach - Corryvreckan
This married couple from Scotland created something truly unique here. While not being the first time I’ve heard the combination of melodic death and folk metal, It’s the first time I’ve heard this much care and attention given to atmosphere. It’s an album that touches your soul with its contrasts.
10. Necrowretch - Swords of Dajjal
Boy oh boy! This is, without a doubt, the best blackened death I’ve heard for some time, and it’s from France of all places! The sheer amount of talent on here is inspirating! Every riff, every drum beat is super tight and sound clean, but raw and brutal at the same time.
Love your write ups!
Necrowretch really suprised me too. I streamed it randomly at work, and all about 10 minutes in i found myself really focused on the lyrics, which I seldom ever do.
I was all "Fuck, I think this dude means what he's singing about", which you could say about maybe 1 in 100 extreme metal bands surveyed. Believeable occult vibes.
Yeah everything about it is top notch.
Necrowretch won it for me. Obsessed.
Great record!
So much better than Banger its not even close - glad to have stumbled across you.
Thanks mate! We’re glad you found us too!
Borknagar! Wow. What a great listen
Do you think it's front loaded??
@@forgemastermetal Perhaps a bit unbalanced but the last two songs are amazing
I'm with you regarding Chapel of Disease, Spectral Voice, Necrowretch, Ihsahn and Borknagar.. 👌
..though I wish Chapel of Disease would have dropped the death metal vocals completely; I just don't think they fit the way their sound has evolved since the last album... the sparse use of clean vocals felt a bit 'anemic' too, I thought?
To me, though, the most interesting album of february was definitly Stygian Crown 'Funeral for a King'; trad./epic doom with Bolt Thrower-like crusching riffs and awesome, sonorous female vocals courtesy of the amazing Melissa Pinion... 👌👌
JFAC is the biggest surprise so far. Cynic bass influence is great.
I LOVE the bass. So many great “wow” moments
My favorite of February is Solbrud-llll. You have to take your time to listen to this album, but it is worth it
I need to spin this one still
Just curious, did yall listen to the Counting Hours release? I ask because I saw Rapture comparisons and I know Ben is a big fan of that band.
Yeah, it’s awesome. We just got to it after recording this video
…well, another set of albums to get. I’m always looking forward to these lists because they differ from most other reviewers (in a good way)!
I’m glad you found something new!
Bipolar architecture was really really good ❤
Borknagar and jfac also amazing. Oh and chapel of disease. Great stuff
Feb was stacked dude. Wild.
I’ve been hooked on some serious DM. My favourite of the month was Keres - Homo Homini lupus.
Hell yeah truth is there are some really killer stuff coming out this year aye ....Hails 🤝🤘😤😏🤣
Definitely! March is pretty stacked so far, too.
Borknagar's Fall is a masterpiece ❤
One of their best! Do you think its front loaded?
Great picks guys, I'll need to check that Bipolar Architecture album out.
These were my favs of the month.

Thanks for sharing! We forgot Counting Hours, too! Have you scoped that one?
@forgemastermetal yes, killer album Also! Just missed my list.
Surprised that Counting Hours was not mentioned, especially when namedropping Rapture... if you missed it, check it out!
We heard it after we shot this video unfortunately. Didn’t get the promo ahead of time. It’s great!
Can’t get into JFAC talented band but it feels very flat I found myself bored. Mad props to them for their skills and I’m glad their fans dig them but not my thing.
For me Farsot - Life Promised Death, Stiriah - Portal, Darkspace - II, Profane Existence- Scour & Ihsahn - S/T are my tops.
It’s all good man. You like what you like.
My exact same experience... on paper, I should love JFAC, because usually I am all in when it comes to progressive, technical death metal, but for some reason JFAC just don't do anything for me... a bit to contrived/'soulless' compared to, say, the last (and totally brillant) Alkaloid album, perhaps? 🤔
@@cbn6635 I totally feel ya on that. I know it has all the elements there that I dig but it does nothing for me.
My favorite february release was ‘Vægtløs’ with their debut album ‘Aftryk’. Emotional and atmospheric, gets better and better with repeated listens.
Thanks for the recommendation man!
@@forgemastermetal And thank you for these lists, always. They are absolutely awesome for discovering new music. I
Keres - homo homini lupus one of my favs
Darkest Hour and Inferious put out bangers of records too
I still gotta scope Darkest Hour!
No Counting Hours new album in your list, little suprised.
Job for a Cowboy, Ihsahn and Borknagar are super good
Found it after this was shot. Great record.
Monkey3 - Welcome to the Machine is a journey
I'm simply intrigued by the band/album titles alone haha
Almost forgot, BOARHAMMER-II: Chemgnosi & METH- Shame. Big month!
I love both Stars Ablaze, but especially Unraveling. Imo. the whole album is a masterpiece, so I disagree on it being front loaded
That's fine!
The Bruins check 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭
Borknagar is on a roll!
Their later discography is freaking genius
Bipolar architect
Borknagar
🎸🔥🔥🔥🤘
Check out Toadliquor, legendary sludge band who just released a new album after 25 years of nothing
Interesting! I'll look into that. Sounds right up my alley! - Ben Fo
Yes to Borknagar! I'm a big fan of Spectral Voice's debut but so far I'm not that impressed by the new one
One of their best!
My list:
1) Ihsahn - S/T (Symphonic Progressive Metal with Black Metal elements)
2) Spectral Voice - Sparagmos (Death-Doom)
3) Morcolac - Drawbridge To Citadel Of No More Dawn (Melodic Black Metal)
4) Eternal Storm - A Giant Bound To Fall (Progressive Melodic Death Metal)
5) Hannes Grossmann - Echoes Of Eternity (Progressive Death Metal)
6) Necrowretch - Swords Of Degial (Blackened Death Metal)
7) Wandering Oak - Resilience (Progressive Folk Metal)
8) Chapel Of Disease - Echoes Of Light (Progressive Heavy Metal with Death Metal elements)
9) Unassuprechlichen Kulten - Haäxon Sabaoth (Death Metal)

Griffon was stellar, and so was Un. Kulten!
Absolutely stellar roundup my dude! Have a fantastic weekend!
Eternal Storm was awesome.
Fucking Moon Healer was a massive surprise. Since when did I like JFAC?
❤Whatcha think of the NEW Thrash Album, Morbid Saint - SWALLOWED BY HELL❤
Awesome album. So far my pick for best thrash metal album of 2024. Love the Ed Repka artwork 🤘Went through the comments and I think we're the only thrash metal fans on here lol.
I will tell you the exact best part of the latest Hulder. On the title track Verses in Oath, she screams “This is the end!” I’m here to tell you verily this day, ladies and gentleman, that that shit fucking RULES.
Goosebumps
Those necrowretch riffs are disgusting.
Did you guys call Green Carnation black metal? I haven't listened to some of their earlier work so I'm not sure if I'm missing something. Cool band btw...got to catch them at ProgPower.
I wouldn't call them black metal, but they are certainly Norwegians pulling on some of the tropes from the genre, which makes sense because most of their members are/have been in black metal bands haha.
Cleebull shayshidt
Planet Terror
Rad pick!
as always thanks for these videos my dudes
It's what we do! what stands out for you this month?
@@forgemastermetal that Echoes of Light record rips so damn hard it’s actually insaaaane lmao
