- Hey RUclips, Jim here! Welcome to Top10Archive! Ancient Persia is a land shrouded in mystery and mythology, filled with fantastical tales of grotesque giants, sly fiends and ruthless beasts that many believed once roamed the land of modern-day Iran. We’re digging deep into texts of Persian mythology to catalog the top ten creatures from Persian mythology, monsters that can be so truly terrifying that you’ll be glad that they don’t actually exist.

We love our mythology and want to dive into our archive even more! What mythology topics should we cover next!?
Top10Archive Do you think you could do some Egyptian Creatures or Celtic Creatures? I'm working on a concept for a story and I'm trying to think of some creatures for it.
Top10Archive native American
Top 10 Hell-ish creatures (from any Mythology)? Seems cool to have a list of demons civilizations thought to have lived under the surface.
The classic Greek and Roman mythology compared to the Hollywood and Ray Harrihousen (sorry for the spelling). Were the original depictions anything like the movies?
What about "most hunted places in germany" or "Top 10 mysteries of the catholic church"?
Persian Mythology is so underrated!

These are the kind of beings they should make movies about.
Agreed!
Of my fav. Persian creature (and my fav. fantastic beast of ALL cultures), the Manticore, they already made a movie. Not a very good one though & has just a hint of the monster. Sigh.

I think Zahak can also be part of the old persian monsters. He overthrew the king and became the Shah of Persia. Then Ahriman (Satan) kissed his shoulders. And two giant snakes were born on each shoulder. The snakes were hungry and their only food was young human brains. So Zahak commanded his soldiers to bring two young person each day from anywhere in the empire and he would feed his snakes their brains. For years and years he continues distroying the younger generation of persia. Eventually a Blacksmith called Kaveh, who has lost all his 18 sons to Zahaks snakes, found the rightful heir of the throne and they gathered an army and captured and overthroned Zahak.

Don't forget the fact that snakes were cut enormous times but they grew again
And he is know as "zahak e tazi" (ضحاک تازی) meaning that he was an arab
oh, and also there was a prophecy that a man named fereydun would smite zahhak with an ox-head mace.

Huma is by far the most important one he is the protector of Persia when it dies so does persia and when it rises again from the ashes so does persia. But we have so many more mythical creatures div-e sepid (white demon) was worth a mention.
Spitfire 1234 you guessed wrong it did many times parthian empire sussanid empire and many more and by the way Alexander ruled as a persian king not greek king

We just can't send Jim too many at once or else he'll shake his fist at us in anger because of all of the pronunciations.. xD

You’re right but some dragons have different abilities. Our mythical dragon can live in water, live in the air and land. Some are not able to live in water. That’s why the name differs I guess

make the next video on : TOP TEN FACTS ABOUT NADER SHAH
his life is indeed interesting . he was a at the same time brutal and a savior of iran . he fought with all of iran's neighbors at the same time and defeated all of them .
I think i read somewhere that in Greek mythology Persians are decended from a greek god named Perseus which is son of Zeus. There is also a similar thing in Persian mythology that i think is intresting:
In Persian mythology everything starts with creation of the world and the first king called "Kiomars"
There is a also an evil named Ahriman which fights with Kiomars and Ahriman's war continues with sons of Kiomars after his death. The last king who ruled over earth (the known world) was Fereidoon, He had 3 sons: Iraj, Tur, Salm. After Fereidoon's death his sons go into conflict about who should rule the empire and empire splits in 3 kingdoms. Iran(Iraj as the king), Rum(Salm as the king), Turan(Tur as the king) and they go into endless conflicts. In Persian mythology Turks/Chinese/People with Asian eyes feature are descendeds of Tur and Romans/Greeks are descendeds of Salm.
With lots of respect to Greek culture , I should say Greek methulogy copied from Persia , Persian methulogy is much older than Greek
When he said 'Manticore', I couldn't help but think of Sigfred and Roy's white tiger.
Please do top 10 Ed and Lorraine Warren Cases
Who knew Jim Cummings was so knowledgeable of Persian monsters :)
