Nowadays we are dealing with a new phenomena which is tourists. Be them ideologues or not, tourists are people who become interested in a hobby because it has gone mainstream, it's the current cool thing to like. They don't have a genuine interest on the hobby. As such, these people tend to not understand what the hobby is about or what made it great in the first place. In order to define what it is about and what made it great we have to defer to the previously existent collective agreement, which is why we (or at least me personaly) appeal to such agreement. Rather than it being a manipulation tactic, it's actually a descriptor. That's how we gatekeep our beloved franchises from tourists. Therefore, people who obcess with their individual opinions and say "speak for yourself" are, in my experience, precisely the tourists who don't understand the hobby. They appeal to their individual tastes and interpretations rather than embracing the Canon.

Its not an unfair criticism of marvel rivals to say that most of the female characters have generic designs in the way of their body types and pretty faces. This criticism has naught to do with the gameplay (Its good) and people play games because the gameplay is engaging. Marvel rivals gets a small pass because their characters are based on existing characters from superhero comics, but honestly i wish they could do more with the designs. Squirrel girl is about as far as they can go - and she isnt even fat, just not super skinny.

Exactly! Superheroes aren't supposed to be realistic. The entire reason Rivals looks so good, and Avengers doesn't, is ENTIRELY because one is over the top stylized, and the other has zero style. Back in their prime, Marvel comics had a whole artists guide on how to draw superheroes. And the core principle of it was to always make them larger than life. Make the men taller and more muscular, and the women more curvy and beautiful, than any real person. That's what makes them look like SUPERheroes. They also had rules about how to pose them. Shoulders back, chest out, and head held high, so they always look impressive. Because heroes don't slouch. Rivals does this perfectly, while Avengers never did. Even the MCU got this right, by casting the most amazing actors they could. People like Scarlet Johansen, and Chris Hemsworth are perfect for playing superheroes, because they are at the peak of real human beauty. And even then they only achieved that look with millions of dollars of extra help. But, again, that's what you should expect from SUPERheroes.
there are plenty of examples of drawing them realistically without making them ugly, bland and dumpy. Just look at any Alex Ross drawn comic, they are always in a realistic style but they look 100 times better than that Avengers game.

I love how these people think archers irl are supposed to be these stick figures. Even if someone shoots a fairly low kg weight bow and isnt really muscular they would still have really well toned back and arm muscles. If you want warbows then it's at least a 40 - 50 kg draw weight which was considered a "lighter" draw for a warbow during the middle ages with 70-80+ being "heavy". You have to be jacked to draw back 40 kg each shot you make and im pretty sure since its a comic book Hawkeye's bow is easily over 100 kg to give it more penetration and power.

These comparisons are kinda idiotic. Live-Service Avengers flopped because the gameplay was boring, not because the characters were too ugly for the fan base to fap to. And blaming boring character design on the DEI boogieman is even stupider, the Rivals models are made for a more comic-inspired art design while Squeenix's Avengers was more a knockoff of the MCU designs. One was made to look accurate to the source material and the other was made to show off what was considered high graphical quality at the time, not everything is political.

Funnily enough, the POE2 'classes' ARE actually characters in game. If you dont pay attention to the interactions between people, you may not notice it. For instance, in act 1, when you first get to the camp, the blacksmith asks if you've seen his son, IF you are playing as any class OTHER than warrior. But if you play warrior, he'll comment about how worried he's been since you disappeared. Same in act 2. If you play as any class besides sorceress, you are treated as a stranger to them, whereas, if you play as sorceress, youre treated as an exile returning home.

For example, she hulk need to be slim, strong, but slim, and if you see her from afar you may think she is hella with a skin or maybe even black panther if she wears a black skin. the siluotes and pallet colors of characters is key to recognize them from afar very fast. I think there was a video of TF2 explaining this very well, but in a more realistic and lest exagerated style like Helldivers, you can easilly can have female or male characters, but here? i don't think so

I was master in overwatch. I loved it and played it very competitively. I LOVE COMPETITIVE GAMING. I GET IT, it’s just a game. But I still like feeling like I’m working towards being excellent at something. I’ve played about 70 hours of marvel so far. It needs some changes but overall it’s pretty good. I also played league of legends and I hit diamond 5 in that. I think the key to good games is keeping them consistent. Like football or baseball. They don’t change it too much cause IT DOES NOT NEED IT. Sometimes people just enjoy the same simple game for years, developers need to realize that.
The fact that some male characters in Marvel Rivals are inherently disadvantaged because of their larger hitboxes (e.g. Punisher and Moon Knight compared to the other Duelists) makes the genderswap post even dumber. 10/10 bait would fall for it again.

Part of the reason here is that Marvel Rivals is trying to be more stylized like something you'd see in a comic book whereas Marvel's Avengers is trying to make you think of the MCU characters but they're also different enough so they don't have to pay for using the likeness of the actors, so you essentially get knockoff versions of the MCU characters by design. It's why we're getting Kris Evens, Marcus Buffalo, Bob Uppies Sr, Red Johnson, Jeremiah Runner, and Karl Pantlegscuffworth.

The best part is that Rivals is totally inclusive. Having character of all sexes and races, even alien ones. Its never been about inclusion, it was always about intention and execution
Avengers isn't depicting realism, its depicting mediocrity. And SUPERheroes should never be mediocre. Statistically, being a slouching dad-bod in a crappy dollar store costume may be all the majority of us could hope for in real life. But then, why would we ever want that in our escapist entertainment?
The fact that the people that create and support art that tries to glorify mediocrity, clearly don't want to even pretend to be anything better than the human trash heap they are in real life, is pathetic. And the sooner we can ridicule them out of the media, and back into the dark corners of the internet, where they belong, the better.
Notice that whenever the DEI slop enjoyers bring up unrealistic characters they never cite Abby from TLOU2. A character based on a female fitness model who is hocked up PEDs and is no way representative of what is "realistic" by their standards.

Exactly! Superheroes aren't supposed to be realistic. The entire reason Rivals looks so good, and Avengers doesn't, is ENTIRELY because one is over the top stylized, and the other has zero style.
Back in their prime, Marvel comics had a whole artists guide on how to draw superheroes. And the core principle of it was to always make them larger than life. Make the men taller and more muscular, and the women more curvy and beautiful, than any real person. That's what makes them look like SUPERheroes. They also had rules about how to pose them. Shoulders back, chest out, and head held high, so they always look impressive. Because heroes don't slouch. Rivals does this perfectly, while Avengers never did.
Even the MCU got this right, by casting the most amazing actors they could. People like Scarlet Johansen, and Chris Hemsworth are perfect for playing superheroes, because they are at the peak of real human beauty. And even then they only achieved that look with millions of dollars of extra help. But, again, that's what you should expect from SUPERheroes.
there are plenty of examples of drawing them realistically without making them ugly, bland and dumpy. Just look at any Alex Ross drawn comic, they are always in a realistic style but they look 100 times better than that Avengers game.

If you want warbows then it's at least a 40 - 50 kg draw weight which was considered a "lighter" draw for a warbow during the middle ages with 70-80+ being "heavy".
You have to be jacked to draw back 40 kg each shot you make and im pretty sure since its a comic book Hawkeye's bow is easily over 100 kg to give it more penetration and power.

These comparisons are kinda idiotic. Live-Service Avengers flopped because the gameplay was boring, not because the characters were too ugly for the fan base to fap to. And blaming boring character design on the DEI boogieman is even stupider, the Rivals models are made for a more comic-inspired art design while Squeenix's Avengers was more a knockoff of the MCU designs. One was made to look accurate to the source material and the other was made to show off what was considered high graphical quality at the time, not everything is political.

If you dont pay attention to the interactions between people, you may not notice it.
For instance, in act 1, when you first get to the camp, the blacksmith asks if you've seen his son,
IF you are playing as any class OTHER than warrior.
But if you play warrior, he'll comment about how worried he's been since you disappeared.
Same in act 2. If you play as any class besides sorceress, you are treated as a stranger to them, whereas, if you play as sorceress, youre treated as an exile returning home.

In art you can approach a design in a realistic or stylised way. Marvel rivals chose the latter while the other game took the prior approach.
Realistic does NOT mean it’s a copy of real world, it means the proportions and anatomy are taking in count when they are designed.

For example, she hulk need to be slim, strong, but slim, and if you see her from afar you may think she is hella with a skin or maybe even black panther if she wears a black skin. the siluotes and pallet colors of characters is key to recognize them from afar very fast. I think there was a video of TF2 explaining this very well, but in a more realistic and lest exagerated style like Helldivers, you can easilly can have female or male characters, but here? i don't think so

I was master in overwatch. I loved it and played it very competitively. I LOVE COMPETITIVE GAMING. I GET IT, it’s just a game. But I still like feeling like I’m working towards being excellent at something.
I’ve played about 70 hours of marvel so far. It needs some changes but overall it’s pretty good.
I also played league of legends and I hit diamond 5 in that. I think the key to good games is keeping them consistent. Like football or baseball. They don’t change it too much cause IT DOES NOT NEED IT.

The real issue is that these characters are often written in a way that feels unnatural, forced, and inauthentic. On top of that, designs are intentionally altered to fit certain trends or agendas, which makes the whole thing feel even more artificial. And isn’t this exactly what we’re against? I don’t know, that’s my opinion on the matter, so it’s a hot take.
I feel like people who defend DEI already know all that, they choose to ignore it to keep pushing their agenda, and at some point people are gonna get upset by "just seeing a trans in the game" but not because they hate them or anything, it's just because everytime they appear, it's the same way as you said, so we just recognize the pattern and end up hating/trashing on it before it even comes out. It gets annoying at a point, to have so many things that we like, be turned into whatever this horrible slop is, and then the "rage" comes and it ends in a insult battle.
At one point I would have agreed with you, but it's been going on for too long. It's all been explained a million times already, and yet we still had this garbage jammed in our face for the last 10 years. Now people are tired of repeating themselves, so we call it trash and move on.

Part of the reason here is that Marvel Rivals is trying to be more stylized like something you'd see in a comic book whereas Marvel's Avengers is trying to make you think of the MCU characters but they're also different enough so they don't have to pay for using the likeness of the actors, so you essentially get knockoff versions of the MCU characters by design. It's why we're getting Kris Evens, Marcus Buffalo, Bob Uppies Sr, Red Johnson, Jeremiah Runner, and Karl Pantlegscuffworth.
It's in absolutely every industry too. Too many Diddy parties really warps your mind.
