The Concord characters screamed, "I'm awesome and special, so you should like me" white the rivals characters say, "YOU are awesome if you pick me". Huge difference.
Well, there's nothing wrong with having ugly/fat characters, but they should be an option, and not the whole roster. Sometimes people do want to play ugly characters because they find it funny.

The widowmaker/black widow thing remided me of a fun fact: Studios refused to make an english remake of the Japanese film "Battle Royale" over fear that it would be seen as a ripoff of hunger games. Battle Royale (based on a 1999 novel), for those who don't know, is indirectly what spawned all the films and games based on the concept -- if the name alone isn't a good enough of a hint. It is also a film I still recommend today.

25:09 Fun fact for anyone who didn't know, WarCraft and StarCraft were both originally designed to be video game adaptations of Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40k (respectively). But, iirc, there was a dispute between Blizzard and Games Workshop and Blizzard decided to release the games as their own and just ignore that they had a contract. Blizzard got away with this because Games Workshop's Warhamer franchise is literally just made up of content lifted DIRECTLY from places like Starship Troopers and Lord of the Rings without a license. Blizzard literally just did the same thing to Games Workshop, that Games Workshop did to others.
The sad part is they nuked the old WHFB planet in favour of a new universe so they could copyright their factions :( '"Elves" can't be copyrighted, but "Aelves", now that's unique!'
Starcraft nerd here. This is widely believed misconception. Blizzard North OG's on a podcast confirmed they were actually trying to get a star wars contract together but fell through when the Lucas Games studio bombed out in the late 90's. They never even went or approached Games Workshop for either of these universes. Hope this helps!
I'm so glad we're putting an end to the whole "People are tired of..." arguments. There's no such thing as people being tired of concept. The best part about this game is they don’t have to fall into the overwatch hero release trap. Overwatch is creating new characters or characters with slight story implications. Rivals can just introduce a hero or villain people like. That means whoever is released doesn’t have to be as overpowered, because there are already people that identify with the character.
Another important thing about it being third-person is that you can actually see the skins that you unlock... Kind of important for a live service game.

Now watch Marvel Rivals make some really fun fast paced single player levels that are hyper addicting and completely dominate the entire genre more than it is now. The men at blizzard used to slam dunk on the competition every year, now the women at blizzard are a literal corporate pin cushion.

Vengeance Psylock has probably sold more skins than most of over watch did last season. People don't want every character to be gay and trans. We want traditional masculine and feminine characters
The Marvel universe contains a number of beloved characters which are multi generational. The game has specifically chosen the characters which target the widest audiences. 10 year olds and 40 year olds know who Spiderman and Wolverine are.
Which is smart. So is adding a ton of characters that the general public doesn't really know like Magik or Jeff, but making the art design and gameplay so good that people become interested in them. They're even talking about adding Jeff to the MCU. And while I get that some people would love for Danny Rand to be Iron Fist in this, truth of the matter is that the Netflix show harmed the public perception of his character, but having Lin Lie be the Iron Fist instead is positive PR for the Iron Fist brand.
And there are also multiple variants of each. Don't like wolverine in a jacket and grew up with the yellow and black xmen suit? It's in the shop. Yeah it sucks its behind a price tag but it's cool you can play as the version of a character you grew up with from the comics or other games/media.
Most people don’t know who cloak and dagger, Namor, Moonlight, Jeff etc is. A good chunk of the roster isn’t known by the mainstream audience. Yet the game play is straightforward and the skins are solid. It doesn’t take a genius to see why people love the game since it’s very casual friendly with good art design.

This diversity wheel was never used in the development on anything in overwatch, stop believing any bullshit you read online, a separate team they made at blizzard used ow characters as an example but the devs themselves never used it
No, it’s definitely saturated - _oversaturated_ even … let’s not kid ourselves here and pretend otherwise to try and make a point. However, the vast majority just have the standard formula where what the player wants in terms of characters, game mechanics, etc. are seen as an afterthought compared to profits. Profits are their main concern - chasing trends for quick cash grabs, ignoring all criticism in the process. It’s just this game managed to show that if you make a good game and give what the players are starved for despite the market being so saturated with both BR games _and_ superhero shite, profits can and will come easy (even with both). Make no mistake: this game is definitely after profits and making money, as they all are, it’s just they understand the formula a bit better than the others. Now, only time will tell if they continue to keep their ear to the ground to continue this newfound success they’ve found themselves in … or if they’ll succumb to the same bullshite all the others before them fell into for those profits. Right now, things are good, but realistically … can’t really give it continuous and outstanding praise this early on when there is always time to take a different route (if they continue to remain on “top” like they are now).
i think on a subconscious level the fact that they didn't go more like the MCU movie char in terms of designs makes it feel more genuine and not give you that nagging movie tie-in slop alert in the back of your head.
True, I do like they've thrown a bone to people that did like the characters designs from the movie/shows/comics they grew up with in the shop. Yeah it sucks its behind a pay wall but it's cool you can play as rocket raccoon, quill, mantis, or groot specifically from the GotG movies.
Helldivers did the nerfs then after backlash just decided to e.piwer a lot of otger items instead of depowering the "good" stuff. It works fantastically. There are better items for each mission type but there will rarely be a person who can contribute regardless of what they use
It actually reminds me in a way of For Honor. The idea that if you master your fav character, you can beat anyone even if the opposing character is OP. You could run anyone and be successful if you knew the character well enough. I mean it also has a player base still to this day.
You can also see the love and passion from the developers on this game as they also animated the individual sprites on the selection screen where it could just have been just a single image of the character and highlighted to be selected.

The meta conversation is a bit more complicated, both are right. Metas are still easy to find and will be, but the changing team up abilities, and skill ceilings being high for many characters means players won't be FORCED into playing meta to be effective (like OW). Rivals has a lot more room to allow players to simply out-play the meta.
i would love them to simply add a full fleshed out fun PvE mode and slap it as "we didnt make marvel rivals 2 for that one, it would be a horrible idea"
Another thing that’s impressive about this game is the fact marvel can easily use it to hype up there new release movies. Having the character able to be played a month before the release of a movie would build so much free hype for the movie and get people actually invested in the character.
Here’s a good thing, I’m not the biggest fan of Hero shooters, even when Overwatch first came out, but even I enjoy Rivals. That should be saying something.
Games industry is a monopoly of a few companies perma abusing their playerbase due to lack of competitors... And Riot or Blizzard were already crossing the line... but Marvel Rivals waited for this moment to step up. Finally some good competition.
Players won’t agree on expiring battlepasses due to gate keeping and exclusivity, Funcom as an example wanted to reuse its first battlepasses on Conan Exiles for new players who didn’t get the chance to complete it before but all the gatekeepers who did it back then went crazy and basically bullied them out of doing it just from a sheer gatekeepers pov. It’s that simple man. Look at the fortnite Og skin drama people just wanna gatekeep what they earned exclusively at a certain time.
@ I have no desire to be referred to or refer myself as an “OG” bro I don’t care what skins or cosmetics anyone else has got I only care about the ones I get. And some games come out half baked at rip and when content is added overtime and the game becomes more popular it’s a shame that newer players can’t get the same rewards because they’re time locked. Conan Exiles pre order chest piece is cool as and I bet 95% of the people who have it no longer play the game lmao
Expiration is reasonable if it's far enough out. If you give me 6 months to complete a pass that takes logging in 6 times in 3 weeks to complete, that's fine by me.
Agreed, and that's why for all its flaws, I love Halo Infinite's Battle Pass system: I stopped playing for 3 years, recently went back to it, and I can buy and/or progress whichever battle pass I want. But a secondary option is one that has been used by Fortnite in the past, which is to simply sell them separately. Like with the Cybertruck, which you can buy in the store even though it was originally an event reward.
People complaining that they buy something during a certain thing with no effort involved or gameplay loop challenge then complain when it comes back for newer playersis just dumb imo

I mean if you bought it at the same time as the "ogs" your an og. I see no issue
Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays is so hilarious. People just have too much free time on their hands.
if anyone is wondering, paying a service to get YOUR data removed is blackmail
you could always do it yourself, but thats a lot of work, they are just offering to do the work for you.
Gamers live in a golden age, where titles like Marvel Rivals, Helldivers 2, Path of Exile 2, Baldurs Gate 3 are eating game company shareholder's lunch. I mean, think about it...Space Marine 2 is the weakest offering of the list I mentioned above, and it's awesome in ways we have forgotten about.
Sm2 is way better then commiedivers policy of cant play unless U play our way. (Psn account required.)
That really depends on the genres you like.
Clearly you didn't grow up in 80s/90s as those decades were the actual golden age of gaming. Saying gamers live in the golden age today with all the nonsense going on with games from incomplete broken messes to MTs is a laughable joke :-)
@@tripatomz3441 people still crying over that? And you dont need a PSN account to play HD2, did you try it yourself or just parroting?
You didn't actually mention Space Marine 2 in your list above.

The best thing about Marvel Rivals that no one really talks about is NO FORCED CROSSPLAY. I’ve never played rank in any game before Marvel Rivals and I have actually been able to make it to platinum 2 so far. I actually feel like I can compete.

Ill tell you the meta 40 and 0 team
Magneto (op negation)
Punisher (op dps: 20k+ damage)
(Flex dps spot) Starlord is a good pick
Rocket (op support + punisher = team wipe)
Immortality healer (op heals) or jeff
This is the punisher's dream team... Infinite health→Rocket infinite bullet spray→turrent bullet spray→ult bullet spray→ back to turret bullet spray→ rocket again
Whenever I had a team like this we spawn trapped the the enemy and ended the match in less than 5 minutes

Respect the male gaze, don't be woke and suddenly no saturation.
What does woke actually mean? Just sounds like a dogmatic term that is just supposed to trigger you but you should not give much thought about.

I agree. Look at PoE2. It's a free to play game that people are paying $30 to play in mass
I called this success during closed beta. The game was already running flawlessly pre-launch and you could just see and feel the polish in the game.
I like to add, they included several characters that I wouldn't necessarily expect, such as squirrel girl, psylocke and magik, which was a pleasant surprise and tells us they are willing to reach deep into marvels hero roster and our future character addition options are almost endless.
Congratulations…..?

Non of this is surprising . Every game thats launched this past year or two that was made by a developer who wanted to make a good game has exploded with these numbers
Baulders Gate
Poe 2
Rivals
Wukong and the list goes on and on
Just make a good game and it will sell
But for companies like blizzard they don't try to make a good game so they can sell it
They develop monitization schemes to attach to a game
*They develop 'games' to attach to their monetization schemes

game looks ass compared to overwatch. or do you want to tell me that tracer, widowmaker and mercy are uglier than the characters in marvel?
nobody wants overwatch
@@A3r0XxLol I'm pretty sure most people compare the characters to concord, overwatch have amazing character desgin and that is a big part of why it has been so big for so many years!
Wolverine looks homeless. you think people want to play as a homeless guy?
@@A3r0XxLol Yes. That's a big part of why they're playing Marvel Rivals and not Overwatch. Stay salty.
As someone who hated playing multiplayer games, and hadd no characters that compelled me to play overwatch, I am having a blast playing Rivals with my friends and have lots of characters in every class that I genuinely enjoy playing as.
fans of the old overwatch had to wait 6 years for another game to come out after blizzard fucked everything up.its amazing that it took so long.
Samegame 2™
So happy this game is taking off. The devs really care, and this goes to show that “if you build it, they will come”
51:16 It's funny because all the early fanart of Mei was her being fat/chubby and then they released that short of her and she wasn't, and people were PISSED.
To me LD is a suprise of a year. Neber watched him before. Such a wholesome dude. Love his takes and content.
I might be wrong but I do feel the helldivers 2 community has played a role in these decisions as the devs really do listen to their community and I feel that some games developers are looking at at the communications between them and learning (not telling) what people actually want?
There is no such thing like superhero fatigue, there is only shitty content fatigue. Doesn't matter if it is movies, tv shows or games. We as customers are going to show up in masses if u deliver good content.
Guess we need to make marvel movies in China then.
Yep superhero fans showed up for Deadpool & Wolverine and Spiderman No Way Home.
No, there is definitely superhero fatigue. It’s just that the people playing this game don’t have it
Game with insanely hot characters sells better than a game with fuggly characters? Wow.
Lol they aren’t even insanely hot, just not fugly 😂
That segue to the Delete Me sponsor was clean af lol.
Guys, just so we are clear here.
Black Widow = deadly spider
Widowmaker = Someone who kills someone and causing someone else to become a widow (aka a wife of the husband thats been killed)
Its really NOT the same regardless of the timeframe involved.
That widow term really distracted people from the more relevant term, femme fatale.
League has a femme fatale too, Evelyn. And Emma Frost and Mystique also acted as femme fatales in the X-Men movies.
@@WanderTheNomad Isn't that just french for fatal woman? having a "lethal woman" in your game isnt all that surprising really, woman are generally more nibble and thus use fast and swift strikes, like a sniper, or invis or something.
But people are really fixated on the widow part of the name and im not even sure if Widowmaker has any spider references to her other than her helmet, but with that hair i generally think shes more of a scorpion.
@@scotttimbrell8632 Well that's the direct translation, but I'm not talking about the direct translation. I'm talking about the character archetype. I'm sure Scarlet Witch and Hela are also lethal women, but they don't really fit the femme fatale archetype.
@@WanderTheNomad I didnt even know it was the direct translation, i just enjoy the song tbh. That being said ive been an massive no life gamer for majority of my life on various games and have yet to hear the term femme fatale to describe what amounts to little more than female burst characters.
@@scotttimbrell8632 I didn't know it was a song. And I just assumed that was the direct translation cuz you said it was french for fatal woman.
I'm talking about the character archetype in movies, that have transferred over to video games. Y'know the super hot lady that'll seduce you but is actually a spy/assassin that's looking to get info out of you, use you, or kill you. That's the femme fatale. The lady spy/assassin archetype. Not just any lady who's powerful and can kill you.

I havent played a free to play game pretty much since about 2 years after I got my first computer 10 years ago. Since then I've accumulated around 900 steam games, (Not bragging, I know thats about average for steam users). So essentially I've got a backlog of like 700 games I havent played, so have felt no desire to play a free game. Marvel rivals is the first f2p game to grab my attention in 8 years, I've downloaded and actually have a desire to play. It's fun, it doesn't have ridiculous paywalls to access competitive content, and it has no obnoxious political agendas. It feels like a game that would have come out in early 2010's which I mean as a massive compliment. It is so incredibly easy right now to make a game that's a massive hit, which is what blows my mind how so many blunders keep happening. All people want is fun games to get lost in, and not feel like they are getting ripped off.. it's really that simple.
Yeah I agree. The characters are known characters that play great for each character.
