  • LIVE: Ratan Naval Tata, the former Tata Group chairman who transformed a staid group into India's largest and most influential conglomerate with a string of eye-catching deals, has died. He was 86. Tata, who was chairman of the Salt to Software group for more than two decades, breathed his last at south Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital at 11.30 pm on Wednesday, October 9. A Padma Vibhushan recipient, Tata, was educated at Cornell University and worked on the shop floor at the family-run group after returning to India in 1962. He became chairman of Tata Industries a decade later and in 1991 took over as the chairman of the Tata Group from his uncle, JRD, who had been in charge for more than half a century.

He was a giant human being who brought so much humanity and prosperity to India, His generosity was beyong compare. He helped so many men, women, girls and boys live a better and more dignitied life. He also was very charitable toward Dogs and Cats as he established so many organizations to take care of them. He was an exceptional human being. He was my ideal Human being, May his soul rest in peace.

The culture of the Tatas, as Mr Narayana Murthy pointedly calls it out, is that of high ethics and India is lucky to have had such people to look up to.

Don't compare him to Narayan Murthy. He is an arrogant person who talks about employees working 70 hours a week. Ratan Tata was an unassuming and humble person who allocated 66% of his wealth to philanthropic purposes. Very much aware of needs of his employees.

It will be impossible for India to replace Ratan Tata. Especially in our generation. I cannot see anyone with his special personality...not in India but also in the whole world.

No one can be replaced with Ghandhi except sir Ratan Tata who left behind memorable memories. No politicians can be remembered except Tata. Now it's a high time to name J R D Tata or Ratan Tata for upcoming New Mumbai Airport who was a pioneer in aviation industries.May his soul rest in eternal peace.

I remember Mr Tata when he came to Fiji in 1968 and stayed at Yanuca hotel a very good looking and humble guy. He did not act like a pompous multi millionaire. I was working in the office when he came. Did not get to see his wife only him and very briefly. Om shanti om
