- Scarefest is back at Alton Towers for Halloween 2022 and in this vlog we check out everything that the event has to offer! This includes our full reviews from the 3 scare mazes along with The Invitation, a new audio experience for 2022. We also share highlights from all of the spooktacular entertainment at the event including live shows on the main stage and the Alton Ancestors! Finally, we take a stroll through the magical Garden Lights Walk: Whispering Souls, along with sharing our thoughts on why Scarefest needs a huge refresh for next year!

I mean come on. Thirteen unable to run in the rain, the state of galactica queue, same mazes, the invitation dreadful, no flat rides, rides having delayed openings. What is going on with Alton towers man?!
The park really needs some major changes. It’s very weak at the moment and it’s sad to see!
Sadly this doesn’t even mention nemesis disappearing next season, albeit with the slight possibly sub terra is returning. From the best in the UK and world firsts to a fairly average park, it is such a shame. Let’s hope SW9 brings some hope

Agree with the all the maze’s needing to be replaced, along with also just general TLC is a lot of area’s in the park, it’s seems like they just don’t care how certain things look or come across such as queue lines and things needing painting. Then we also have the flat ride issues, Alton need to have investment and a lot of it across the full park, the hotel is another issue for the price you pay and what state things are. Great video as always!
Let’s hope we see them completely refresh the event for next year!

Cannot wait to ride nemesis one last time with the amazing red lights, the smiler in the dark is so good too, and an underrated dark ride i would say is galactica, it feels like flying through space cuz of the dark, its much better than a stargazing pod anyway!

Totally agree with you Shaun and Charlotte, it seems to be really disappointing this year. I’m going on sunday and will only be doing Altonville mine tours (in my opinion the strongest out of the lineup this year, despite being in the lineup for so long). It’s way overpriced for what you pay for, especially if you’re not interested in the shows, the only benefit being the rides in the dark. I would love to see for next year a well themed and long maze based around a butcher where you’re in the back room of a kitchen, I know mazes like that have been done before and it would be good to have a maze like The Sanctuary. Enjoyed the vlog as always though!

As you both said, Scarefest seems a bit repetitive now and hence I’ve been put off from going this year. I even thought that The Invitation was going to be a new scare maze and was excited when it was announced but then disappointed to find it was another audio experience.

Great Halloween 🎃👻 Vlog Shawn and Charlotte, I completely agree with you about that Alton Towers Scarefest needs to be fully refreshed for next year with new scare mazes, scare zones have to return because they add to the atmosphere of the event like you mentioned. It’s such a shame about this year’s event and I understand why you say that it’s the weakest Scarefest. I’m just going by what you’ve said in your honest reviews
Whilst people keep paying the up-charge, Alton Towers will not need to rush to change anything. The fireworks are the best, and the best value.
Fireworks is amazing and we can’t wait for that event to start!

Can’t wait to see the Duel update! I think Scarefest is definitely a 1.2/10. I hope they change this problem and if they don’t reduce the prices, nobody will come to Scarefest next year. It needs to be the opposite of what it is to this day. Great update and congrats for the news!
I have a Merlin gold annual pass so Alton towers is free I pay 14.99 a month which is really good value for money

They need to add scare zones back and imagine a scare maze in the aboned toilet block in the gardens would be so spooky because there’s aready area in the gardens that are spooky

I experienced my first ever Scarefest this weekend and had an amazing time! The scare mazes were brilliant fun, but I sadly have to agree on The Invitation. However, we got to have a lovely conversation with the actors before entering. They were honestly fantastic, major props to them for bringing light to the otherwise poor experience.

I'd have to say Knotts Scary Farm is my favorite haunt event
I love how they're always innovating something new every year. The 13 houses and 4 scare zones, the coasters all included with admission. What would you guys think if the Towers put on a crazy event like that?

Great video! I always enjoy all of your Alton Towers vlogs. I also really appreciate your honesty in saying when you think things need to change. Me and Steve are going on Tuesday for our first ever Scarefest we've never been before. Mainly because I'm a huge chicken! I tried and failed twice to make it through Derren Brown's Ghost Train! 😂 But I am going to try and do my very first scare maze this year! I really hope Alton Towers make new changes next year though as it sounds like they really need to. I know I am going to love the family attractions the 5 characters are so cute! We also are going to do the trick n treating and I can't wait to do the rides at nighttime. Wicker Man in the dark is going to be awesome! I'm thrilled that Charlotte has come to this channel full time too! 😊

O was so gutted didn't see you both, we were there on the Friday. We also thought the invitation was super naff. I enjoyed the darkest depths the smells were some kind of rank though. Looks like you had a fab time, minus all the rubbish weather

I went to Alton with on the 24th September with platinum it was absolutely fantastic ❤ it was a first time we got in 18 roller coasters
Yeah week after next I am in the park for 3 successive days..last 2 with platinum fast track..would not go without one now..absolutely brilliant walking onto every ride near enough no matter how busy..last scarefest I rode wicker man one night at least 10 times in the dark.fantastic
Love the new Scarefest mug!!...shame that its the only decent new thing this year. The queue sign for The Invitation specified strobes and smoke but neither seem to happen!

wait in the UK you have to pay extra for all the mazes. At kennywood you only have to pay extra for two mazes and the rest are included with admission.
i came yesterday!! i only really went on the rides, but i loved all the theming! i went on wicker man, nemesis, galactica and thirteen at night and im overjoyed that hex is back open!

Hey! We were at AT Scarefest yesterday for the first time since 2013 and I must say it has been too long. Alton Towers is awesome, and we had such a great day overall.
The Attic and Altonville Mine Tour were new to US at least so we enjoyed them, but I can imagine the same thing year after year being tiresome by now.
The invitation was an interesting idea, and while we didn't hate it, the length of time we were kept waiting for it was absolutely absurd (30 minute turnaround from one group going in to the next for a 10 minute show?) This ate into nearly all of our after dark ride time, which slightly irked us considering what we otherwise could've done during that time.
Apart from that little black spot, though, it was amazing and we can't wait to get back to Alton Towers. We might leave out the scare mazes though, until they get a reVAMP 🧛🏻♂️

This is exactly why I go for fireworks instead, no point at all going for scarefest when for several years it's just the same old and this is coming from someone who utterly adores my local theme park being just 20 minutes away

I’ve never really been to a theme park Halloween event but I have to say, towers are lacking this year, the only thing that would make me want to go to scarefest over another day is the extended opening hours, and I love Halloween. Attic does look amazing though, the idea of a maze in the towers really appeals to me, if I were to go I’d probably just do that

Thanks for your very honest appraisal of the event. From what I saw from last years vlogs, the Alton Towers effort looked the weakest and it appears that they have complacently rested on their laurels this year too and not made any real attempt to improve. The "trick or treat" entry fee is a disgrace and I hope the whole event is a failure this year so they HAVE to completely re-evaluate and change what they do for next year. For Britain's largest and most popular theme park, they should be ashamed by their "efforts"

Seems the same as last year so glad going to Thorpe instead. Last time I went before this was in 2013 with The Sanctuary and Carnival of Screams. So much better before. Overall its still a great weekend with the night rides. Always reccomend doing the mazes in the dark though, much better atmosphere. New mazes and duel revamp will make this amazing again. 🤞

£12 for trick o treat and you get about £2 worth of haribo…. Scariest thing about the trip
one thing i'll say about the trick o treat is don't bother if your vegetarian, when I went last year I asked for vegetarian sweets and was met with a disgusted look and given a few lollipops, nowhere near as much as my meat eating sister got. In the end I wish i'd just kept the meat sweets and given them to my younger sister, as in the end I couldn't eat the lolys they'd given me anyway

Yes, i agree the Kids trick or treat sweets collection trail is over priced. You can get two tubs of chocs' from the Supermarkets for £7...1300gramms of chocs'.

Great video, I went the day after you on saturday, and i did the scaremazes for the first time ever, like they were my first scaremazes I have ever done in my life, and I thought they were amazing, very scary, and packed with jumpscared, and the acting was nice, but i agree with the head phone one, you didn't really know what was happening, and it was really just the same repeated process, vampire eats someone, then another person, then another

Went to the event and honestly there was absolutely no devil in my experience on the attic. Went under that fire pit and there was no actors. Don’t know what happened.!

With such an intense schedule of events, I'm actually not surprised the internal park design team haven't had the time to create new mazes.
Octoberfest into Halloween turnaround was crazy.
If Merlin hadn't let half the parks ride capacity fade away over the last decade, maybe they wouldn't have to rely so heavily on an overstretched shows teams and a bunch of carnival operators to make the park a full experience
They really need to have a serious think about the direction they want to go for next years event!

Scarefest is the best!
The Invitation was way more worse than The Terminal at Thorpe Park.
We covered the 4 main Scare Attractions at Alton Towers today, plus the Haribo Trick or Treat which was surprisingly good.
From what we saw of Thorpe Park last weekend, it ranks easy number 1 for Halloween between the main theme parks, Thorpe Park is themed for Halloween through the whole Park it feels like, much more activity, whereas Alton Towers is somewhat lacking.
However Wickerman at night was really cool tonight, always a good ride.
Nice to see you both obsessively touring as usual.
If you get to Shocktoberfest, I'll look forward to your coverage.

Just went to scarefest today honestly the worst experience of my life, the bad weather was one thing but then the delays of every ride, thirteen was closed, galactica, nemesis and Rita was shut for a short while then when it was open there was more delays and don’t even get me started on the INVITATION, £9 for absolute bs I could of listened to that in my AirPods.

A terrifying review!
I was in the park for Saturday and it was rampacked. Enjoyed the mazes, the attic was fantastic, but the park could use a good bit of TLC. My first ever visit to Alton Towers and it left a taste for more. Saw the both of you outside Duel today, I'm a bit too much of an introvert to walk up and say hi so consider this my awkard wave.

An insider at towers said that scarefest had budget cuts due to the two ride referbs hence the same mazes, audio one rather than full themed new one. It’s a shame but worth the trade for two major ride changes :D
