Please keep expressing your honesty opinions you two, just because you think something was better in the past or you see something that could easily be Improved doesn’t mean your being negative. This is not just your local park, it means so much more. At/Merlin need to make it a priority to listen to all guests but especially guests with years of knowledge of the park. sometimes a lick of paint or a power wash is just as important as the latest attraction

I was one of the original team that delivered the entertainment offering for the very first scarefest.
Designed and built a lot in my time there.
I was there pre merlin and in my opinion, merlin has been absolutely terrible for Alton.
The park is a disgraceful state.
No excuse for The Smiler looking so vile. Why would they allow these ‘key’ attractions to rot. It can’t be money because they’ll lose more in the long run!

Personally I think 2024 could be huge for Alton Towers, almost a relaunch if they invest the money! I think it should be far more than a Nemesis re-opening. Tidy up the place, Congo River Rapids with a little bit of extra theming was a nice touch (more of that please) and waterfalls are back! Cool. How ironic that Smiler is looking sad right now, and Hex definitely needs to return in 2024! The fairground rides have far over stayed their welcome too.
And Congo needs more waterfalls.
Retrosquad will probably be staying until at least 2025/26, though they could at least phase in permanent flats, and then retheme them to better fit their areas once the Retrosquad arc ends.
I don’t think we’ll be getting any new permanent flat rides until at least 2026 though, unless we get some as part of Project Horizon
Retro squad was a good ‘space filler’ idea, but at this rate it’ll celebrating 10 years at Alton Towers too!!!!

I totally agree with you about the smiler, the halfway point and the station it’s self are extremely dirty and need a clean. And I don’t know if you’ve noticed but in station 1 for galactica as you go down the stairs just before entering the station there is a hole in the station above the break run, Alton towers need to do a lot of tlc around x sector and galactica. Also the station building for 13 aswell. At the end of the day it’s a THEME park and they need to raise the standard on how they keep it up to date and fresh. As Charlotte said the need to do it every year rather then letting get really bad over a number of years.
Like the smiler a lot of the concrete is so dirty

@@ThemeParkWorldwide people pay a lot of money and travel far and when the park is in the state that it is people will find very disappointed. The smiler especially is famous for its record and is a good coaster however the theming and the presentation needs to be Improved as I said it’s very dirty and like in the vlog when the projectors aren’t working, I went there two weeks ago and all of the projections were off. I feel as Alton towers can get away with it because it’s off peak season however it’s been like that all year. Unacceptable
Love the new jeep! I want to see more theming added to old rides, I always wonder why parks don't bother to enhance rides beyond opening day. I'd love to see a couple of orange strobe flashes in Oblivions tunnel, just so people get to see the depth and speed for a split second!
Well, they're classic attractions. Adding more to them for no reason when they're still good would make them lose that 'classic value' of them.
@louiswright8282 Well its not for no reason, it would be to improve them. The reason rides like Oblivion and Galactica have mouldy concrete tunnels is because of budget reasons, it was never a stylistic decision.
We would love to see existing rides and areas have new themed elements!
@@somethingsinister8493 to be honest, your point with Galactica is very Valid, while i think the lack of theming around Oblivion helps by making it really bleak and open, having that Horror dystopia feel to it.
Galactic just needs to go back to air to be fully honest with you, especially with the planned concepts they had, such as the rock work and waterfalls! Imagine!
I like your idea of A.I.R so thought of a small backstory/idea
A.I.R: Aerial Intervention Reconnaissance
After the strange ongoings with Nemesis, the Phlalanx decided it best to have some aerial presence over the site for future observations. Taking over thr former Galactica Space Cruise Company they invite you to join them on this observation flight to check in on the beast and keep Alton Towers safe from its other worldly presence.
Maybe have all the crew dressed in Phalanx gear and have this sense of urgency to take off and observe the beast.
Maybe add a speaker or 2 on the lift which is a Phalanx operative communicating to you at the start of your mission before it all goes wrong.
Hurry back to home base while flipping and swooping over the beast tentacles which wish to take you in

I think your idea of rebranding Galactica back to Air but with a Phalanx theme sounds brilliant. It would create such a cohesive and immersive area in the park.
What about something like: Ⓐerial Ⓘnfiltration Ⓡeconnaissance?
You board a Phalanx 'aircraft' to search for new signs or hotspots of alien activity. With more theming, rock work and near misses, this would be awesome!
The monorail too. It's absolutely disgusting. I went to alton back in May and this revolting wet sludge dripped from the train sunroof onto my coat and it smelt absolutely revolting. Very disappointing how they prioritise heavily on some areas, and completely abandon other areas.
It does need some major improvements

Oblivion is Cool and I love how it is themed around the unknown and dropping into the abyss and it may be creepy but it's one of the best Roller coasters at Alton towers
Genuinly cant believe they left Smiler and the whole X sector area like that in general.. I got stuck on the Smiler and i looked around and the only thing i could see is mould and grime! Really hope they sort it out soon

The thing you said about the smiler is so true. Like i think it looks way older than oblivion and even old nemesis. For one of the parks main rides its insane how it looks like that
First time going to Alton towers, my sole left my body on the Oblivion, thought i was going to fall out of Nemesis, yet loved Air and could ride on that all day. Couldn't get on other rides as it was an hour wait each ride. Never going to a theme park again, made my fear of heights alot worse 😂. Prefer watching you guys doing your thing, as feels like am tagging along from the safety of my sofa 😁👌
Impressed that even after scares on oblivion and nemesis you kept going. Personally, I adore roller coasters, Oblivion was incredible, Smiler amazing etc, but Taron and Velocicoaster are just awesome. Intamin blitzes ❤️

Cant beat an off peak day in Oct. Ill be back there in a few weeks to check out scarefest. Eagerly awaiting your halloween plans!

It is sad it’s just been a steady decline for a while . I’m local in the peaks . I own /run a coach company and the demand for towers trips has followed suit. I’m doing more to Drayton,chessington ,pleasure beach .Drayton is coming on leaps and bounds and it’s been impressive to see . It feels like merlin has forgotten its park in the north .
It’s very sad to see. The park needs some major refurbishment and updates to bring it back!
i went on subterra when i went for the first time this year in the summer holidays and out of the stuff i went on it was my favourite flat ride/experience, it holds a soft spot in my heart
I find that Galactica might be on the verge of being removed

It sounds as though Towers needs a visit from the Paulton’s Park maintenance team.

I’ve got bruises on my shoulders from The Smiler 🫣. I agree - Alton Towers is looking a bit tired.

I had fast track. I basically went to the front/side entrance of Rita lol fast track was good for avoiding walking through the long queue’s. Smiler ended up with a 45minute queue so was worth it for that.
They closed the entrance as there was some debris/something fallen down so for safety reasons it was shut.
Yes I went on sub terra today - really enjoyed it - it’s a good ride.
Yesterday I did Wickerman 6 times, smiler 5, Rita 2, oblivion 2, galactica 2, alton Manor 2, mine train 1, spin ball 1. The only reason I didn’t go on more was because I made myself sick 🤣.
Air and Smiler had quite big queue’s yesterday.

Nice vlog, it’s such a shame simple maintenance towers aren’t bothering with, just a quick power wash or hedge trimming can’t do no harm 👍🏻

I’m always incredibly lucky incredibly grateful for the channels that are here when I’m having a hard day but even better daaaaays when my friends go home impressed with the content of the channel keep on riding I hope scare fest will exceed your expectations for this season
Galactica is Awesome but it does need a shower because it is looking a bit rusty and the Blade is probably the oldest pirate ship in the UK and the Curse at the Alton Manor is absolutely stunning and very impressive and scary

Omg what If they are giving 13 a 13 birthday for scarefest. It would make sense with its theme. They closed it to decorate 13s Station. Then no rita queue so you can't see it untill scarefest

Agree there are so many areas that need cleaning and maintenance at AT. We went on Wednesday this week and I complained online for the first time ever due to so many rides being not on.
I think the monorail was much better without vinyl stickers when you could see out. We usually sit in that end one now because we have the pram. I think they did it so they didn’t have to bother cleaning the windows. Needs peeling off and a good cleaning schedule to keep it looking good.
Definitely think galactica should have a retheme to fit with nemesis.
We haven’t done the aquarium for a long time because we tend to do Manchester or Blackpool. Do you remember when there was a 3D cinema near shark bait reef; It used to be quite good.

I LOVED The Curse at Alton Manor, we did it 4-5 times in two days (3 weeks ago). Was my first time at the Towers actually, thanks to your vlogs I discovered this park. Traveled all the way from the Netherlands by car. One of my favorite parks right now.
Edit: Oh we hated that squeeky sound at the river rapids! It's horrible hahaha

Lightwater Valley is only £15 to get in if you buy tickets in advance, but its only open for the October Half Term.

I used to love black hole back in the day, used to visit in the 80’s/90’s, once visited the day before the park closed for the winter and we went on black hole over and over again as there was no queue! brilliant times!! Also remember magic carpet and the original corkscrew! Alton Towers is the best theme park in my opinion! I am 50 now and I still love it!!

Wickerman is one of the best rides at Alton Towers, hopefully they can get the fire effects fixed on big bob for this season and also have the lighting back on the structure during scarefest!
Best time to go guys, love the fact you can walk onto what you want to. Definitely want to be back next year for Nemesis, and to try to beat my record on Oblivion of 7 in a day.

Was there Wednesday 27th September and was pretty much 5min wait on each and every ride! Absolutley loved it! Prefer it when it's like that! Many re rides were accomplished for sure!
I went on Wednesday and had a great time. Nemesis Sub Terror was so much fun and surprising but I felt the curse at Alton manor needed more of a scary feeling, overall it's very well themed. Btw when I went, Rita's brakes were a lot smoother and newer than before.
I was underwhelmed with curse of alton Manor. Had so much potential.

@@Go0dAngel haha! Yes it’s better than duel lol I just felt like a lot of the effects were ‘cheap fillers’. So many good effects but so many bad ones too. Also didn’t really like how the trains were so close together. To me, it took away from the Immersive atmosphere.
@@CoastersThrillsAndAirtimeHills the trains were annoying because every time there was a scare the people in front would scream so it took away from the suprise and the kept a few of the anamatronics from Duel like the giant spider. The effects were more like projectors than actual theming parts but there were a few good illusions that can make you dizzy.
@@Go0dAngel totally agree with you. The one thing that truly got me were the mirrors lol I’m actually a believer in ghosts because I’ve had a lot of unexplained paranormal experiences. I usually struggle with scary stuff (and is the reason I avoid scarefest) but curse at alton Manor didn’t bother me at all!

I went on subterra for the first time this year and I had my legs sticking out in front of me and I was also leaning forwards because I didn’t want to get poked or swept on the legs and I thought the alarm at the end wasn’t part of the experience and that it broke 😭

Interesting vlog, loved the monorail journey at the end, would one day like to see an monorail improvement aswell extension with bigger aswell longer monorail trains like what Orlando has? Transporting guests both day & overnight stays & holidays via Stoke on Trent & Derby Railway stations. Think that would be an ideal rail connection through there from each station to the resort. Save people catching buses & taxi's and have guests travelling into resort via monorail instead via stations aswell other stops along the way? Think Towers would benefit in profits aswell guests will benefit as an easier access to resort to travel through to each station either end? Can honestly see Spinball Whizzer being removed & replaced in future, not sure with? But defo can see it going especially compared to other big modern additions in park like Wickerman, Nemesis, Smiler, Galactica, Oblivion and Project Horizon if a new coaster? Think can see defo in future that coaster going next tbh. If not that, maybe the Dungeons being removed, something placed in where that is? Think that needs to be near park entrance via its own building on main street maybe or via entrance plaza outside park as its own attraction outside park? Maybe as an massive indoor multileveled experience & separate gate? With its own entry price in my opinion, instead in park. Give that area where it is to another exciting ride build? Place it outside park where it may get more attention? As aswell seems hidden at back of park, needs to be put somewhere more where everyone can see it. Just my opinion, Galactica, although I just said it was a big modern coaster, I would love to see this replaced with a Vekoma Flying Coaster like Fly? Or if not an RMC Coaster (With loads of theming surrounding it.) Think UK's first ever RMC would be an epic addition here especially in that location, maybe that could be a sequel to Nemesis? Extension into World of Nemesis? Be quite good I think in that area? But nice vlog, really enjoyed and look forward to more vlogs like this in future. 😀👍

I think the smiler definitely needs to to do a painting on the ride but incredibly expectation great job with your opinion positive feedback from Florida people think you’re incredible and positive incredible fantastic job with your channeling around the world it’s incredible and amazing
The best thing for Alton Towers is it be sold to someone who will take care of it and look after it.
I've said it before, Merlin spend all their money on their European parks.
All ticket money from our parks go abroad.
Same as most things in this country now.

How about some theme park fans suggest a volunteer day to tidy the park up. Some gardening and painting. And Alton Towers could them give out day passes to everyone who helped out.
They really need to get park presentation and operations back on top form

I think that the quality of this season has been worse because of them spendings lots of money and nemesis but hopefully over winter they fix a few things. But next year I think we might see a big leap in quality at the park.
I despair with AT, they’ve got that fantastic park in a beautiful unique setting and they let it go to rack and ruin, it’s such a shame and so frustrating! Why don’t they add some nice big covered pergolas over the outdoor seating areas, there’s nowhere to go when it pours, and the covered area in pirates cove is dire, it’s a simple fix! 🙄

I went just yesterday and I can see the issues , some areas like Katanga canyon , gloomy wood , mutiny bay look great! Of course forbidden valley is under development which i get but some areas like x sector looked awful and need a clean
Really enjoyed watching this and agree with you on maintaining and cleaning up the park! We took a ride for old time sake on get set go, there were CBeebies bugs that had been removed lying on their sides, and the ride goes over the top of them! No attempt to hide them! And the sensory garden looks really tired too, faded paint and rotting wood. Aesthetics make a park, more theming and maintenance 😃
Let’s hope they have a busy winter of maintenance ahead!

why not visit Flamingo Land and Lightwater Valley for Halloween you dont normally do those parks at this time of year. Lightwater Valley has got a new ride and the skate carts that you missed so much are back!

I went a few weeks ago for Oktoberfest, and had a great time.
Got lots of rides in, including back-to-back rides on Th13teen and The Curse. Loved getting on some rides I have never been on before, like The Curse, Galactica and Sub-Terra. Really enjoyed seeing some peoples reactions on Sub-Terra too. 😂😂
I agree the park does need some major TLC, so really hoping things improve for next year!
We went today and thought the rapids was looking fantastic. The soundtrack is incredibly fun and I can’t remember the waterfalls being on but it really made the whole thing. Much more exciting. Hopefully they’ll go through each ride update accordingly

I know I’m late but when Sean said it’s still the record holder for the most amount of inversions (for the smiler) the only thing that popped up in my head when he said that was another future coaster will beat the smiler soon

I quite liked sub terra but thought perhaps they should cover the egg when you get your restraints on so when the ride actually begins your not just waiting for something to happen!

I wish the rest of the coasters had a single rider que. as someone who rides mainly by themselves, I wish they did it considering everything is in 2s or 4s.

Hi Shawn and Charlotte. Is great to see, that this year, Scarefest have somethin new, unfortunately due to the closure of the Towers ( I think to prevent the history so, to keep out the vandals out... if it's the reason, well, it's a shame, but they did a good decision, in my opinion ( I'm fine for this year ).
I hope for this new scare-attraction or new 2023 version of the old ones, will be good, with new more improvements like smoke effects etc.. since they are not free. It's incredible that Merlin take care of smoke effects on Uk parks ( see the beatiful, smoke active again on the Curse of Alton Manor queue in this period or they will activate, I think, this effect, on the gardens ), while on Gardaland, it's no more a thing since years ago, on the attractions were it supposed to be active.
We all know, Merlin take a lot care for this period only Thorpe, infact even on Gardaland, we will still have the 2022 version with only a few improvements of show ( new on Gardaland theatre ), more theming through the park and an halloween version of the 4D cinema. and stop. But again, finally I saw an improvement here ( on Alton Towers ) after years of absolutely nothing. I mean an improvement, since we all saw that Merlin, put the same type of scare attracions every single year here on the park.
For the Smiler, well, yeah, on that exterior part, it need a clean ... and also on Air/Galactica. After all we're in Halloween period, so it fit good! Degradation, well, you know, they need to be more brutal, in all sense, for this weeks! I'm joking obviously.
I hope it will return the flame effect on Wickerman.

I'm sorry but the lack of upkeep at these Merlin parks has frustrated me for years now. To suggest they can't afford to is untrue as they are one of the most profitable entertainment industries in the world so no excuse. The Curse of Alton Manor and the new Nemesis are doomed, they will perish just like everything else. Such a shame as some of the best memories of my childhood are from these parks. Lazy and incompetent.
Congo River Rapids is good but it's better than Rumba Rapids at Thorpe park but it is not as good as the Adventure Cove River Rapids at Drayton Manor

Do you know if the Christmas event this year will include the walkthrough light show? I've tried getting an answer out of Alton Towers but they're being intentionally vague (which makes me think it's not happening).
Sadly not this year. There’s no Lightopia event now!
