That 70's Show - "What's the square root of x?!"

- Eric tells his parents that he is going to tutor Kelso in math for the weekend, and Red and Kitty are suspicious about him.
This is from the episode 'Romantic Weekend' from Season 3.
Red Forman was an excellent character.
only Kurtwood Smith could bring Red to life
I lowkey liked Red better than Eric... Eric was kind of a prick
Sam Torres Eric isn’t even close to being my favorite
1)-Kelso
2)-Steven
3)-Red
4)Fez
5)-Jackie
6)-Eric and Donna
if u r ok with racist and sexist jokes i guess nobody's better than him in that
@@LucasRibeiro-zd4cr That's his character. He's an old fashioned war vet who's behind on the times. Do you not understand that?
Father: *Says anything*
Audience: *Incomprehensible noises*
HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Your pfp is great!
@@belgiantheorizer2145 Thank you!
@@mylyfeyafizzlahyahnue Your welcome!
Lmao
x equals glorious 144p
So...12p?
Rodney Jean Baptiste Heh..
Rodney Jean Baptiste square root nice
It’s 480p now
The quality takes me back tho lol
Someone: says literally anything
The audience:🤣🤣🤣
@David Edosomwan *Cue uproarious laughter*
Character: “Hmmm”
Audience: LMAO
Really? ...hmmm
It’s weird. I never noticed how obnoxious it was until I took a break from sitcoms.
@@weegee_hates_the_blind well they actually put in fake laugh tracks. It's a parody of shows from the 70s
Damn, I never realized how heavily this show goes off the laugh tracks.
To be fair, it can back those up... Half the time
First season is very bad with laugh tracks but it goes significantly smoother starting the second
Its better than friends or the big bang theory
It’s because it’s supposed to be a 70s show and all shows back in the 70s had insane laugh tracks where the audience would laugh at the tiniest things, so they’re just trying to recreate that basically
What if u watch all of it with no laugh track?
If (explosion,fire, news) {
set x = red kicking erics ass;
}
+Hayden Hoodless
not even a for(;;){} can reach the amount of ass Red will kick.
You forgot to set the values of explosion, fire, and news haha
and you didnt even need an else statement for that one .. XD ..
else (?)
I think
if news=="fire" or "explosion":
would fit better=p
What i got from this is x = red kicking ass
Every variable in the universe equals Red kicking your ass.
OK but here is the thing. He basically said " If anything goes wrong in the news it is your fault and I'm kicking your ass " I better hope the local thugs and criminals behave then huh.
look if he wanted to be an ass he should have answered a different way, by saying the answer was another variable with the same the implication is that root x = x thus there is one answer which is that x = 1 as 1 is the only number that is the square root of itself
@@xandermichels8336 Zero is a number.
@@jamesbrown99991 yes but that is a null result in maths and is uninteresting
Ah, Red. Coming up with new and creative ways to threaten to kick someones ass with each passing day. Though that one by far is my favorite.
the octoburn was mine
They retconned Kelso's parents being dumb. In the Season 1 episode where it was "take your kids to work" day, Kelso's Dad was a statistician and Kelso was bored out of his mind that his (very smart) Dad had such a boring job! lol
+drlee2 plus later on it raveled he was drop on his head by mistake of times when he was a baby
this is Red we're talking about. he thinks everyone else is dumb or dumbass. Eric is smart to answer that Kelso's parents are dumb (trick question).
I mean, Micheal got the highest score of the group in their SATs, and he once helped Red program the pong system so that it would have smaller paddles. Maybe the Kelsos are just really dumb in some areas but really smart in others.
+Doctor4077 I think the proper term is "idiot savant"?
Actually, Donna got the highest SAT score. But Kelso was second, with a 1030.
I like how he correlates Kelso to vandalism, fire, and explosions.
JT Loredo Correction Catching in fire he always finds a way to catch in fire lol
In Red's defense, Kelso found a way to light himself on fire in WATER
@@Razsor97 he even watched that kid glue his hand to his face!
all he said was "I'll be watching the news" and i counted 7 distinct cackles
that was the best line in the scene
@@bandombeviews6035 yh easily best punchline in the scene
One of those cackles was me
Now do the standard deviation of Red invoking laughter from soliciting to anyone in the gang.
Yeah cause it's a hilarious line in context
Kitty: Will Michael's parents be home?
Eric: Yes
Red: Are they as dumb as he is?
Eric: I can't lie... yes...yes they are.
Red: Right answer. That was a trick question. I know they're dumb.
But in One episode,Kelso went to his dad 's Office. He was so inteligent and at the same so dreadfully boring.
@Six Beer Math Kelso was dropped on his head. makes sense why he is a moron.
@@Ozzie_Mandias wasnt he pretty good at math? At least there was an episode where he was the one to count the money spent for boose in his head while others just watched
So....I can go?
@@notmakingcontent You can go. But I'll be watching the news. If anything is vandalized, or explodes, or catches fire. X will equal me kicking your @$$.
it's funny how in the earlier seasons eric was depicted as the geek who does pretty well at school, and then in later seasons he had even lower SATs than kelso
To be fair the SATs don't prove squat.
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 this.
And also, by that time, Eric had been transformed into a slacker, due to the group and mostly, Donna. Lol.
he was too busy ogling Donna to focus
By this time, he seems more fixated on his new obsession, Star Wars, rather than his education. He becomes such a fanatic that somehow, by the 90s, he is making his living by teaching a course on Star Wars.
That's how he became Venom, he stopped dealing with People's bs
0:48 how I solve math problems.
"if anything is vandalized, or explodes, or catches on fire... X is gonna = me kicking your ass." LOL. then i like how Kitty kisses him at the end.
No one:
That one lady in the laugh track:
*bWAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAHHHHHHHEEEEHEEEEEEE*
I wish I could watch this show for the first time ever again.
I haven't watched it, is it good?
@@benparsons4979 Yes. One of my favourite sitcoms ever. I find it to be pretty underrated

"You can go, but i'll be watching the news"
This line is so funny, i just burst out laughing uncontrollably until the neighbours called the police
Then i showed them this clip and they fell down laughing to the point where their guns just started shooting randomly and killed me.
I literally died laughing
That's ridiculous, those police should be fired!

Goddamn, this laugh track is one of the most annoying laugh tracks I've ever heard.

I never noticed it until now but jeez this clip could be so much better without the laugh track
@@hydegrant4895 😂
its a live audience im pretty sure. cant really get mad if its real people
It's crazy how old this looks now. Makes me feel old lol
Imagine watching your fav sitcom and trying to do a hearty cackle after every minor joke every 10 seconds. You’d get light headed.
Ever been in a live audience for a standup act or sketch show? That's what it's really like, exhaustion and all. This show was filmed in front of a live audience and it'd 100% be the same energy and excitement to watch unfold live in a crowd that way.
Kelso gets the last laugh.. When him and Red work on the Pong Paddles. As Kelso is making them smaller to be more challenging. Red Tells Kelso that Soldering is the future. When Kelso said Home Computers...
And then he became Steve jobs
Jackie: Michael I'm feeling cold
Kelso: Damn Jackie. I can't control the weather.
Fez: I said good day.
Heck of a show it was.
Some of us remember this moment. The moment we realize we are more intelligent than our parents. I still remember my mom trying to help me with geometry. Bless
yeah but then we get arrogant and think we're smarter than them at EVERYTHING and we quickly find out we aren't
Which is kinda weird. I thought you needed to have good grades to study nursing.
When *That 70's Show* actually looks like a 70's show.
"but I'll be watching the news"
Lmao red is priceless
Red: [whispering] Kitty, is this the same Eric who smokes weed with his dumbass friends in the basement?
Kitty: [whispering] Yes dear.
Red: [whispering] Then why does he sound so damn coherent?
Why can’t he do both?
i wonder what the square root of "Red kicks Eric's ass" is...
1 toe.
nah bro 1 foot^^
Still a variable, the parameters haven't been defined yet.
Stevie
no... the variable has been defined: x = "me kicking your ass"
Perhaps the square root of it is "Red kicks Eric square in the ass".
The laugh track is turning every sentence into a joke. Lol
That was when laugh tracks was being used for right jokes at the right moment, big bang theory needs to take some notes lol
It was filmed in front of an audience.
I love all characters, but maan! Red is just the best
It's a funny scene, but I can't stand the canned laughter.
Its not canned laughter, it was a real audience.
Statistically speaking, I think Forman is right.
John Wagner Which is weird, because they kinda made Forman out to be an idiot later in the series...
He was like a Pseudo Genius if that makes sense.
Nah guys he was always intelligent; just really lazy.
Kitty: Are you good in math?
Me: He's *GREAT* in math.
Yet apparently he would be failing math in the thanksgiving episode.
This is literally how every discussion with your parents go when it comes to math now🤣🤣🤣🤣
I loved watching this show because Eric and Red's interactions reminded me of my father and I's so much. He even looks like Red. The funny thing is he'd probably be around Eric's age during that 70's Show. He graduated in 74.
Probably the best show ever, absolutely ever.
This conversation has stayed with me more than any of the jokes in the series.
red: talks
the audience: “hahahahahahaha hahahaha ha ha ha... hehehe”
"are they as dumb as he is?" that is one sad, and scary family.....
The 144p makes the experience more authentic
“But I’ll be watching the news” is a quote every dad and son can laugh to
Eric was Guaranteed that ASS whoop'n 😂 I mean😏, when isn't there something exploding , on 🔥 Fire 🔥 , or vandalized on the News??? 😄
Red is the man😂😂😂
RED FUCKING FORMAN!!!!!!
Nope. Square root of x can not be x. So until the parameters are define, it is just square root of x, or another variable.
square root of x can be x just not exclusively x. if x=1 rootx =1,-1 so rootx can equal x it just would not be correct to say that as an eqn
Thefreakman8 It would be fine to write that as an equation to be solved, but not as an identity.
The square root of X is just X to the power of 1/2
Thefreakman8 by definition, square roots can only be positive, so you could only have -1 be a solution by placing a negative sign outside the square root, such as f(x) = (+ or -)(x)^(1/2)
It could be an imaginary tho
U know i always hear Red threating to kick Erics ass but does he ever do it
+fayumtoy First, it's "threatening." I'm not being a grammar Nazi, I just think of misspellings as boogers or an open fly... I wish someone would tell me, haha. Anyways, I don't think he ever does. All kinds of punishment, but according to Red, he's only ever shoved his foot up one guy's ass (not Eric), but he said he couldn't talk about it... so, yeah.
Red's killed people though so who knows what he means by kick in the arse?
Its the thought that counts
man our parents grew up in the best time. Imagine having to make the evening news before you got in trouble with your friends you could damn near get away with anything.
he didn't need to prove he knew math, he just needed to prove he knew better than kelso
Michael's parents are smart though
isn't kelso's dad a statistician or something like that?
Well at least his dad was shown to be. Fricking continuity errors
yeah kelso dad's job was data analysis, no way he would be dumb lol
the 70s show had some of the worst continuity errors.. Eric stayed 17 for 6 fucking seasons... and donna had a sister but some how she disappeared
Remember when Donna had a sister?
"x is gonna equal me kicking your ass" LMAOO.
“Are you good in math?” Failed math by Ms. McGee
You know something's suspicious when even Kitty doesn't believe him
i miss this show!!😥
you can go, but I'll be watching the news 😂
Not gonna lie this is legitimately how we gonna answer that kind of question
True story, lately in math that I’m taking to prepare for college, I’m learning about algebra and everytime I begin to write “x=“ I think of Red Forman saying “x is going to equal me kicking your ass”
I gotta go rewatch this show on Netflix now
I’ve already watched all the seasons a few times before, but I just love it haha
It's x^½ if anyone is wondering
Father: breathes

One of the best Red scenes
People complain about the laugh track, this is actually really tame compared to more recent abhorrent sitcoms and at least the dialogue are actual jokes so it makes sense for the track. Unlike modern day where it's a laugh track after every other word regardless if it's an actual joke or makes sense in context.
Why is this better than nowdays shows
0:16 My favorite part was the villager noise
Heuuh
He could have answered "x raised to 1/2" or "the square of the fourth root of x".
I miss this show
The way Red and Kitty stop what they’re doing. 😂
Greatest Math problem of all time along with the equally Greatest Math equation of all time.
"Being square is the root of all evil" - X
Good lord, he played Venom in Spiderman 3? I... didn't really recognize him.
I feel like Red Foreman and Hank Hill would get along very well
brilliant brilliant scene
Idk how I enjoyed this show back in the day with this obnoxious fucking laugh track.
Red gonna give *x* to ya
This is just what I needed before my math midterm😂
Did x equal Red's foot kicking your ass?
@@carultch if I remember correctly, I did okay on the test haha. No need for red to kick my ass😂
Kelso's dad can't be that dumb considering he's such a successful farmer.
But does he pick carrots fresh off the trees though?
That's good parenting right there.
Oh how little times have changed
I like how red :D always find a way to ryhmed everything :D about kicking someone's ass
I never watched this show, and it looks genuinely entertaining and fun, but with so much canned laughter? I don't see how anyone can bring themselves to watch it
Red=legend
Now I wish we had met Kelso's parents.
You can meet his dad though
_Is that right?_
_...sounds good..._
ive been looking for this clip forever
Dang, may as well stay in this weekend, Red will be watching the news.
What a hero
Red's equation is one you don't wanna solve!
Did you record this in the 70s too?
He's 100% correct.
More precisely: X is the square root of X
because x is equal and congruent to the unknown quantity.
And they said I'd never use this stuff IRL.
Father : If i watch the news
The audience:🤣🤣🤣
This show is so underrated
Best TV dad award goes to Red fucking Foreman

Squareroot of x= x^1/2 but basically what he said.
+Asir F. so, according to you the square root of x is the square root of x. you should join the tautology club man, we meet in the building that we meet in.
***** hahahahahahaha
+Asir F. If you say x^0.5=x then you are defining its parameters as it prove it is 1 therefre it is a constant not a variable
