  • Austin Sigg was excited by pain, suffering and dismemberment. He watched torture porn online, but it wasn't long before he needed to experience the real thing.

VIP goes to the mom, for so quickly turning her son in.
Even though she raised him, she turned him over to the police as soon as she knew he committed a crime, and was not later protecting her son. Good for her.
This is a kid who deserves anything and everything that is coming to him, and more. The fact that he chose scalding hot water to drowned her in, shows the utter cruelty that lives in him.

She was in shock. Not only did her son tell her what he had done...The remains were STILL in HER home. She likely was thinking a million things and in a state of clinical psychiatric crisis = one's mind experiences stressors that acutely overwhelmed her normative coping skills...That is why she sounds almost delayed in things she says and almost passive/aggressive as well.

Already posted elsewhere but needed to clear a couple things up. I went to church with Jessica for a short time before her disappearance. I was homeschooled at the time and my dad taught me how to make a map (how that'd help, don't ask me, I was 8-), and find key locations around my community in case "I found her and needed to bring her somewhere for help." Its horrible what happened to her. Thank you for covering her case.

Jiles keeps deleting comments about the mother as they go against his agenda, but he has conveniently omitted how irresponsible and neglectful Austin Sigg's mother was.
Apart from leaving a 12-year-old alone with uncensored internet access to browse violent child pornography and not getting him the help he needed, I also found this:
Austin Sigg Practiced Zip Tying his mother before kidnapping, raping and dismembering 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway
The depraved murderer then bound the girl's hands and feet with zip ties - a move he practiced before the kidnapping on his mother Mindy Sigg, the Denver Post reports. The killer's mom also joked with friends about her son's sick fascination with body decomposition, part of his bizarre fixation on mortuary science
Austin Sigg's brother even told a psychologist the convicted murderer "was learning how to kill people and be able to get away with it" in one of his community college classes, the Post reports.

I am completely numb to it at this point. I've seen so many of these videos and the topic of dismembering a body to "get rid of the evidence" comes up fairly frequently. I dont really understand the logic there. I guess they think it'll be harder to find but all they're doing is making it easier to get caught. It creats a mess because of all the blood, at each dump site theres a risk that someone will see them and report it, and instead of now hiding one thing which would be harder to find they're leaving multiple parts increasing their chances of being found. it's just a dumb idea.

This is not to excuse them (because I hate them for it), but I think part of the reason they deny the crimes and support the family that is because of ego. They can't acknowledge the evil in the person they produced because then the shadow will fall on them, implying something either about their genes or their rearing or both. I don't empathize. If I had family like that, I'd want to make it clear I don't condone their actions nor will be in denial about them if the evidence is there. In fact, that predator would be in danger from ME. There's nothing on this planet I hate more than a child predator. He eviscerated that baby and left her not a shred of dignity.
Indeed, he was a monster. You can look in his eyes and see he's completely dead inside. Why he didn't get life when child predators don't stop even when they're old, I'll never know. He didn't deserve anything less than exactly what he gave that innocent baby.

I see your points and agree with you. It had to be horrifying as a parent to hear your own child confess to an especially heinous crime committed against an innocent child but also the attack on the lady jogger. I admire Mindy for calling 911 immediately and not trying to cover up his horrific acts upon a child. Austin presented serious red flags to his parents at a young age and they refused to get him into a serious mental health counseling program but opted for a "religious" camp instead and they'll have to live with that decision for the rest of their lives. I don't advocate for violence against people but if Austin experiences a fraction of the pain he inflicted on Jessica at the hands of fellow inmates,it wouldn't disturb me in the least. My deepest condolences to Jessica's family, friends, and community...
words of sympathy and support always feel so hollow after a horrific tragedy like this. I hope Jessica's family received and continues receiving the mental health counseling they need to cope with her death;a decade may have passed but that loss will never be anything less than devastating.

I say this because I've seen what those injuries do to people. An ex boyfriend and my brother both were never the same after severe head injuries. They went from smart, sweet, protective young men to dark, mean and sexually inappropriate. I won't go into more detail, but I think this is an area that deserves more study in medical and psychological terms.

I have ADHD and when I am highly stressed or overwhelmed, people constantly chattering and asking me rapid fire questions just sends me into sensory overload and makes it hard to think straight or even talk. She already had to hear it from him once, and now the operator is interviewing him and she has to hear it again. I can't imagine that being forced to listen to the details of something this violent again while he's on the phone with 911 is helping her. I can understand wanting to just have the mental space to breathe and think without having to speak.

It's frustrating, but more often than not it's either a case where there's a custody dispute and the father basically kidnaps the kid on the way to or from the school, or the kid ran away from home. The parent(s) always swear up and down that their kid wouldn't run away, they're happy, there's no behavioral issues, no issues going on in the home etc... but it usually turns out the kid _did_ actually run away and there _was_ issues in the home.
Even though it's obviously more common with teenagers, they often decided to stay at a friend's without telling the parent(s) or run off with a boyfriend they were forbidden to see.
As we saw earlier in this video, there _was_ in fact a custody dispute going on and the father had assault charges against him. It makes sense to investigate this before spending the time and resources to issue an Amber Alert.

You never know what a desperate parent is going to do with a child, especially if they have mental health issues, or a history of domestic abuse.

Thank you for spending a bit of time addressing the 911 call. Coffeehouse Crime covered this case a couple of months back and half the comments were idiots criticizing the 911 operator, mainly asking why she's asking "all these dumb questions" and not "sending help" seemingly not understanding that the 911 operator is able to both ask questions to the caller and also communicate with dispatch at the same time.
It is crucial for the 911 operator to gather as much evidence as possible so that the police or other emergency services that have been dispatched know what kind of a situation they're walking into. People don't call 911 and turn themselves in every day, especially in a case like this. In fact, it's more likely that someone confessing to a crime over 911 is actually a prank caller.
Certain information has to be established for a multitude of reasons. If the 911 operator didn't ask about Austin's demeanor/behavior then for all the operator and dispatch know, he could be irate, panicking and be waiting behind the front door with an axe when the cops get there. They don't know what kind of situation they're walking into if they're not able to establish/confirm certain things.
Then there's the fact that 911 calls are always a key point of evidence during an interrogation and then later at trial. Some cases have even hinged on the details of a 911 call. Information gathering during a 911 call is absolutely crucial to every crime and investigation.

Ewu crime just covered this but so much more detail was presented here. I get the feeling this monster's mother in part felt the same way a lot of us do when we're listening to 911 dispatchers ask a million questions during the worst moment of a person's life. The first thing they do is get the locations address so they can send first responders out immediately then their job is to get her as much detail as possible, and often those details are used in court if there's a criminal case. But it's difficult to not recognize that for many, this about the worst time to play a game of 20 questions. So I figure that was part of the reason she was trying to rush things. Also she was probably needing emotional support....she wanted to call the father of her monster child.
Such a terrifying case, as they all are. But it's every parents worst nightmare to have their child for missing... then to find out your child died, in pain, tortured, afraid, and alone? Idk how a parent deals with reality after that.

Being peppered with a ton of questions is annoying at the BEST of times (and can cause sensory overload for neurodivergent people), nevermind a high-stress situation like your child just confessing to murder. Given that ALL of this was information the officers could have gotten on scene, there was no need to keep pushing with the questions beyond "where are you? any weapons? is he calm?" which are ACTUALLY relevant for the cops arriving.

His mom sounds like she's freaking out not incredulous. Her son just confessed to killing & dismembering a child in her house & she has to sit there looking at him & has to answer questions. I bet all she wanted to do was get him & the body parts out if there & probably wants to sit & process the whole situation & cry.

Can I just add from Psychology Today (by Ramsland - the superwoman who interviewed BTK for example) :
"Sigg was 17 when he did these things. He’s clearly eligible for the category, “callous-unemotional (C-U),” one of the precursor conditions in juveniles for adult psychopathy. This means that he has limited empathy, a lack of remorse for causing harm, and shallow emotional qualities to his relationships. Juveniles with high C-U traits can judge others’ points of view, but have a blunted emotional response."
    and further:
"One twin study tells us that antisocial behavior coupled with high C-U appears to be heritable, particularly for males. Environmental circumstances (such as Sigg’s interest in death) can trigger risk factors for acting out. Due to their indifferent attitudes, it has seemed unlikely that these juveniles would ever respond to treatment.
However, the good news is that C-U traits appear to be somewhat malleable; thus, they’re manageable. According to a recent report, some studies show that juveniles with high C-U traits can improve their emotional literacy & develop prosocial responses, but the treatment must be consistent, intense, and individualized. That is, it must be tailored to a child’s unique cognitive, motivational and emotional style. Thus, it will be expensive."
Psychopathy expert Kent Kiehl:" ..such person-focused programs (used at the Mendota Juvenile Treatment Centerin Madison, WI) to reduce recidivism, could reduce youth violence by fifty percent.
MJTC studies have shown that for every $10,000 the Department of Corrections invested in treatment, you save $70,000 in the next four-year period. Over the life of that offender [if it's successful], it’s millions of dollars.”

The accessibility of violent pornography terrifies me! We have learnt to roll our eyes at the idea of “twinky defences”, like “A Stephen King story made me shoot-up the school”, or was it a De Caprio movie scene? “The video game Halo made me do it” or any other violent video game or movies…
…I think that young minds & pornography, particularly violent porn is a VERY different MONSTER!!!

I was 20 when I was SA’d by a teenager, 17 year old. It didn’t matter that I was older than him, he was bigger than me since I’m 5’0 at the time 110 pounds and he was over 6ft tall not sure about his weight, but more than me! Something that bugs me is that many people think that it’s shocking for a teenager to be able to overpower an adult or have evil behaviors!!!! They can!!

I especially liked the story you told of the victim that fought her attacker off, and, when they were in the court room, she spoke, and, before she turned to take her seat, she looked at him and asked, "how's your nose?" That was the icing on the cake! Sorry that I can't remember his name.

My youngest son, eighteen, to this day, won't go anywhere alone because of this. My oldest son went to school with Austin, and when he was in elementary, both of them. We lived five homes down and across the street, and one and a half blocks from Chelsea Park. Now know as Jessica Ridgeway Memorial Park. At 9:04 in the video, they show the homes across from where we lived.
I never realized my involvement in the vigils, ballon release, posting fliers, and searches (which my youngest wasn't a part of - searches) or helping get the name of the park changed through the mayor, would cause my youngest a life time of fear.
This was one of several tragedies that would plague our community, Witt Elementary and Standley Lake HS.
The entire tragedy changed so many lives, including Jessica's mom, aunt, and my son.
RIP Jessica! It's just awful what happened to you!!
Austin was in AP classes with my son's friends. They said he was pleasant, smart, and "normal" by their standards in his class behavior. How can anyone ever know who to trust when you know of these situations firsthand. 😢

      I'm sure you're a better,
more attentive mother than Austin Sigg's mother. Jiles has conveniently left out how irresponsible and neglectful she was.

At least where I live they doctor the crime statistics to make it look like things have gotten better rather than worse, don't know if they do that in America as well, probably depends on the state, here it's national. The media also have a very short attention span and much of what go's on only ends up in local papers or not even that, the media also readily suppress anything touchy or inconvenient to broader narratives.
