    Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
    It looks like you didn’t find it easy landing your 1st PM job.
    I can imagine how frustrated I would be after taking a number of courses and yet no one paying attention to one’s application.
    I’m going to prepare to take the exams because frankly everyone should learn how to at plan and cost project. Hopefully this knowledge would change how one approach your current job and who knows once would master the gut to seek a PM position.
    But this knowledge is for ourselves and no one else.
    Thank you once again for sharing

    Hi Alvin. It's been almost 2 years now since I passed my PMP. I currently have a job right now as PM but I wanted to work for a bigger company as a certified PM with over 10 years of experience. For some reason, I thought after getting certified, it'd be easy to transition to another job, but that does is not the case with me. I'll keep trying and I know the right PM job is out there waiting for me. Thanks for the video and advice!!!!

    Thank you for the information. The biggest struggle at this point is the transition from consultant to PM with little experience. I was laid off at EOY. I am reaching out to local PMI chapter to try volunteering. Any recommendation on gaining experience or building a portfolio if past work is not quantifiable?

    Hey Alvin. Just wanted to thank you for all the work you have been doing. I find your videos very useful. I've been a teacher for over a decade and throughout my career I've managed and participated in many projects. I came to the usa 2 months ago and trying to adjust my career.
    My problem is that I'm having hard time convincing myself that my experiences will be desired to the recruiters in the usa as all my experiences, as well as my education, were in turkey. I'm still not gonna give up until I land a relevant entry level job. I'm also on the process of finishing the google pm course.
    Would you advise me to mention on my cover letter the fact that I would agree on any work conditions due to my lack of experience and network in the states? I've been reluctant on that but I'm started to think I need something that could help me break in, other than my skills and experiences..

      Turkey, how great…. Until you hear from others, from my experience here in the US, mentioning such a thing in a cover letter will never serve you well, it well be perceived differently as a desperate person who sells himself short, instead you can leave these details till the negotiation phase. Contacts will help you a lot to land your first chance as applicants send hundreds of applications from people who have experience from the US, let alone new comers…,, try to find a contact, a friend, extended family member, etc.. it should help,,, all the best bro!

    Thank you for resume template - for the most part - I'm not really struggling right now but in the past - every company perceives project management differently - I remember being told I was just a glorified secretary - I don't really do much - or I'm not technical enough - however - when things go wrong - everyone in certain instances were quick to blame the project manager -

    • @alvinthepmofficial
      @alvinthepmofficial  6 месяцев назад +2

      @TreasureSeasons, thanks for sharing your experience! I've had similar experiences in the past, and it's through those tough times that I built up a "shield of armor", to stand up for myself and to demonstrate the value I bring as a Project Manager. Trust me... we are NOT secretaries, we are SO MUCH MORE than that, and I want to encourage you that every company is different, from small start-up companies to much larger organizations. Please don't let other people's negativity and criticism affect you, because we are WORTH IT! I've worked with many Directors who do believe that Project Managers are worth their weight in gold because of the value we bring, and how we can lead teams to launch products and services faster to market.

    Hi Alvin, thanks for your advice. I currently have language difficulties (English is not my native language) and I am working on improving my communication skills, I know I will achieve my goals this 2024! Success for you!

      @alvinthepmofficial  6 месяцев назад +2

      @RosmelOrtizPimentel, I know others whose native language was not English, and they continued to grow & succeed in their role, advancing up from entry level all the way up to Directors and higher in Program Management. I believe in you, and I'm confident that while you improve your communication skills, you'll also see even greater success in your career!!
