      The best is the complaints about human grade food.... All dog food not baught in a grocery store (i.e pet stores, the veterinarian etc) is human grade... Only the stuff the vets don't recommend, and thats uber cheap is not human grade.
      But theres always silly as heck comments whenever an animal shows upp on youtube.

      Seems mean until you realize the alternative is you fighting with your beloved pet because _they_ wanted to be the Alpha, because you've been seen as a weak 'leader of the pack'.
      _Will say, Genna's got brass ones for continuing the training after Kumo starts eating. :P_
      As to folks bitching about the food. STFU, if it's not safe for you why da fuck would you feed it to your pets?!

      I think it's great how you teach the dogs to share their food, my girlfriend's family has a dog that always gets really aggressive if you even get close to him when he's eating. They got the dog from an animal shelter though, so it's to be expected I guess...

      She is definitely the mastermind of the operation. The video from yesterday was actually from December I think? I found it on my video camera and decided to share it. We did not even have Kumo until February, so at the time John was just commenting on Shibas, not really comparing the two. ;)

      Why do you give your dogs "Human grade, gluten free, etc" food? They're dogs. They eat their own shit if they want to. Why give them food that's suitable for humans if they don't need it?

      Almost all (if not all) dog food has to be "human-grade" (at least in the U.S.) because during economic hard-times people tend to turn to dog food because it's cheaper.

    • @bunnysmg3818
      @bunnysmg3818 10 лет назад +4

      xeproc This is completely wrong. there is only human-grade food in organic food and even that can have some form of terrible chemical in it. The only human-grade food is grown yourself or from a reliable source. majority of food in the USA is made cheap and fast to pump out more money for the people running the companies. They don't care if you get sick or if you die from the food pumping chemicals, hormones, and toxic waste (hexavalent chromium, chromium-6 responsible for cancers and growths and organ failures... This is a radioisotopic industrial coolant waste from metal plants and is found in a lot of places in USA in the tap water. This is confirmed in new york tap water and they don't care that its in there.)
      Do you think that since people found out about pink slime that food is clean they have been doing this shit for years why do you think cancer isn't cured yet it is because the only way to cure cancer is by fixing food quality.

  • @TheEmperorPigeon
    @TheEmperorPigeon 10 лет назад +1

    It is always gratifying to see responsible pet owners (like Genna) giving discipline, asserting their authority and feeding their pets well. Too often on this tiny little island that is Great Britain - as TB and many a fellow Brit will attest to - dog owners let their dogs shit where they want, eat shit, run amok, bark at the slightest thing (or nothing), leave the dog(s) alone for hours at a time (and thus the dog(s) bark out of anxiety)...and even shout at their dog(s) for - effectively - for y'know...their pet being a dog...*sigh*
    I'm reminded of a relative with his dogs, of whom he'd take to a nearby wasteland and tie a rope for them to a branch of a tree. The dogs would then take turns pouncing (and then swinging) from that rope. To the layperson, this would look like he was training them to be aggressive, however the exercise was to exacerbate the aggressiveness in as safe and controlled a manner as possible - including time-outs when necessary (one dog at a time) - and it worked.
    Point being, not everything is at it first appears especially when it comes to pet ownership. This, from a person who has never had a pet but understands the responsibilities such brings.
    Anyway, good on you Genna for doing the right thing as regards your pets. :)

  • @Lukeno52
    @Lukeno52 10 лет назад +1

    The advantage of a dog wanting to lick up every last scrap: the bowl is easier to clean.

  • @Scott-.
    @Scott-. 10 лет назад +16

    Have you tried having the food on a stand for Kumo? It might stop him getting over the food in that "controlling" manner, plus the bowl won't mark the floor (if you're worried about that) I love your confidence around the dogs :)

    • @GennaBain
      @GennaBain  10 лет назад +23

      Scott, we do have a tall food stand for Kumo that we use more regularly. Unfortunately, he's been into it a bit like a pig into a trough lately and I just wanted to make sure he wasn't getting food possessive. Using the bowl on the floor was just easier for me to access than the stand. It gave me room to block him like an alpha dog would.

    • @Scott-.
      @Scott-. 10 лет назад +11

      Genna Bain
      Ah I see, Makes perfect sense. he seems like a big sweety and with you as pack leader I'm sure he'll continue to grow into a great dog! • @cpudude30k

    Whenever I feed our dogs (2 German Shepherds and Jack Russel) One of them tends to eat really fast and not chew his food. So I'll hold the bowl and make him sit and wait for me to tell him to eat. Another cool thing to do I do sometimes is to mix food by hand so your scent is imbued with the food.

      ajjdgj6tmgedvnmtmek That entire breed is the subversive type LOL. Many people say they're more like having a cat, just as stubborn, clever and manipulative.Check out the shiba scream and then look at the dogs face. Adorable little assholes. They scream like a banshee because they know many people will react to it as if they're actually in pain or scared, but it's an act, because a dog that's truly frightened or in pain actually does something about it, not whine.

    I feel like talking to Maya is kind of like talking to an xbox one. You keep telling it to do something and it's just like NOPE, not having it.
    Only difference is that there is far more hope for Maya doing something after repeatedly telling her to than there would be for an xbox one.

    The only thing that I wouldn't do is lift the food plate up again after placing it down, it can send the wrong signal to your dog and that's usually where it can trigger aggression. From what I've learned, once you put the plate on the ground and the dog goes for you just have to stand in front and assume dominance, but never contest the food by taking it away again.

    • @GennaBain
      @GennaBain  10 лет назад +1

      Like Maya, Kumo has a teflon-like fur coating. If you bathe him too often you start to remove that coating. Most dirt brushes out very easily so it's more about the brushing with him and Maya than about bathing. Too often with these double/triple coated dogs, their humans can't get in enough to rinse the undercoat properly which causes smell and dandruff.

      Or you could just let them feed THEIR dogs what THEY choose to. After all, your opinion isn't likely to change their minds.

      xXxBlackwaterXxX I dunno, maybe that dogs don't need gluten AT ALL and in particular Maya and Kumo may be allergic to it as it's evident at 6-7 months of age. As for the turkey that has lived cage free, it is more likely healthier, taste better and is less cruel to the turkey.Dogs, unlike cats can also handle and even need a small amount of veggies and fruits, so this food is perfectly fine to them. Also, human grade simply means we could eat it. What's wrong with that?This isn't about opinion, it's about facts. That food is perfectly healthy or possibly closer to optimal then normal cheap corn filled dog food. Dogs can't digest corn. If they were feeding vegetarian food to their cats, I'd get everyone harping on it because that could kill them. But that's not even remotely the case here.
