The best is the complaints about human grade food.... All dog food not baught in a grocery store (i.e pet stores, the veterinarian etc) is human grade... Only the stuff the vets don't recommend, and thats uber cheap is not human grade. But theres always silly as heck comments whenever an animal shows upp on youtube.
Seems mean until you realize the alternative is you fighting with your beloved pet because _they_ wanted to be the Alpha, because you've been seen as a weak 'leader of the pack'. _Will say, Genna's got brass ones for continuing the training after Kumo starts eating. :P_ As to folks bitching about the food. STFU, if it's not safe for you why da fuck would you feed it to your pets?!
I think it's great how you teach the dogs to share their food, my girlfriend's family has a dog that always gets really aggressive if you even get close to him when he's eating. They got the dog from an animal shelter though, so it's to be expected I guess...
I love how the Shiba is supposedly the more intelligent of the two, yet the Akita seems to be the smarter of the two. "Congratulations Genna, you bought the smart dog" - John Bain 2014
She is definitely the mastermind of the operation. The video from yesterday was actually from December I think? I found it on my video camera and decided to share it. We did not even have Kumo until February, so at the time John was just commenting on Shibas, not really comparing the two. ;)
Genna Bain Oh well, they both seem like extremely lovable dogs! Despite their heinous crimes xD. I am personally getting a Shiba Inu and I can't wait to have that little cute face run around the house :)
Why do you give your dogs "Human grade, gluten free, etc" food? They're dogs. They eat their own shit if they want to. Why give them food that's suitable for humans if they don't need it?
chimpaflimp Almost all (if not all) dog food has to be "human-grade" (at least in the U.S.) because during economic hard-times people tend to turn to dog food because it's cheaper.
xeproc This is completely wrong. there is only human-grade food in organic food and even that can have some form of terrible chemical in it. The only human-grade food is grown yourself or from a reliable source. majority of food in the USA is made cheap and fast to pump out more money for the people running the companies. They don't care if you get sick or if you die from the food pumping chemicals, hormones, and toxic waste (hexavalent chromium, chromium-6 responsible for cancers and growths and organ failures... This is a radioisotopic industrial coolant waste from metal plants and is found in a lot of places in USA in the tap water. This is confirmed in new york tap water and they don't care that its in there.) Do you think that since people found out about pink slime that food is clean they have been doing this shit for years why do you think cancer isn't cured yet it is because the only way to cure cancer is by fixing food quality.
Genna its nice to see someone putting in the time and effort to properly train their dogs. The dogs and the people around them are always better off if the people who care for them are willing to put in the effort to train the dog and train themselves.
It looks like they are learning so well! It's funny that Maya was the naughty one for the stay portion but had no problems sharing and Kumo stayed just fine but sharing was like "hell no". You're such a good dog momma Genna.
I like to belive the exactly same ones, i don't care if it's not the truth, i just love the idea of Genna going to pick in TB's plate telling him to share, and take away the plate if he refuses to.
They are pretty obedient for being so young. Good job. Both are VERY smart dogs, and if you don't train them properly they will "ef yo sh*t up" later when they are bored :)
I think you might have caught some kind of non content infection from Crendor please try and spread it to TB so that he might make more lets plays with Jesse =)
*When you start taking the food away* Kumo: She'll bring it back. She wouldn't just leave me to starve. *When you get out of the kitchen* Kumo: SHE'S NOT BRINGING IT BACK! HEY!
Ahhh the joys of training a strong willed breed whilst I sit here with my little Lowchen. The perfect family dog having the perfect mix of built in obedience and rambunctious behaviours of a puppy. Gawk in jealously for once a Lowchen has been housebroken it becomes the perfect dog.
I'm glad you guys are doing this training. I never did this why my German Shepard and he's pretty spoiled by it. Glad you guys are asserting dominance and reminding them that they are just group followers. I hope you have you're son learn the same techniques too.
It is always gratifying to see responsible pet owners (like Genna) giving discipline, asserting their authority and feeding their pets well. Too often on this tiny little island that is Great Britain - as TB and many a fellow Brit will attest to - dog owners let their dogs shit where they want, eat shit, run amok, bark at the slightest thing (or nothing), leave the dog(s) alone for hours at a time (and thus the dog(s) bark out of anxiety)...and even shout at their dog(s) for - effectively - for y'know...their pet being a dog...*sigh* I'm reminded of a relative with his dogs, of whom he'd take to a nearby wasteland and tie a rope for them to a branch of a tree. The dogs would then take turns pouncing (and then swinging) from that rope. To the layperson, this would look like he was training them to be aggressive, however the exercise was to exacerbate the aggressiveness in as safe and controlled a manner as possible - including time-outs when necessary (one dog at a time) - and it worked. Point being, not everything is at it first appears especially when it comes to pet ownership. This, from a person who has never had a pet but understands the responsibilities such brings. Anyway, good on you Genna for doing the right thing as regards your pets. :)
Have you tried having the food on a stand for Kumo? It might stop him getting over the food in that "controlling" manner, plus the bowl won't mark the floor (if you're worried about that) I love your confidence around the dogs :)
Scott, we do have a tall food stand for Kumo that we use more regularly. Unfortunately, he's been into it a bit like a pig into a trough lately and I just wanted to make sure he wasn't getting food possessive. Using the bowl on the floor was just easier for me to access than the stand. It gave me room to block him like an alpha dog would.
Genna Bain Ah I see, Makes perfect sense. he seems like a big sweety and with you as pack leader I'm sure he'll continue to grow into a great dog! Dogs are one of the things that make me happiest in the world (without trying to sound too dramatic, it's coz I'm crazy, ask John about Glasgow lol!) and seeing you making such an effort makes me really happy :)
Whenever I feed our dogs (2 German Shepherds and Jack Russel) One of them tends to eat really fast and not chew his food. So I'll hold the bowl and make him sit and wait for me to tell him to eat. Another cool thing to do I do sometimes is to mix food by hand so your scent is imbued with the food.
I know this was probably asked already, but care to tell me why choose food made out of "Cage-free turkey"? So that they could exercise enough to give off richer meat later? Or do they taste different?
Genna Bain You seem like you have a major handle on this dog owner thing, but I would like to say that I hope you neuter him eventually, after you've shown and bred him all you've want. My aunt's dog died of testicular cancer. :/
This is why I dont own a dog or cat or have children, always some asshole trying to tell you how to take care of them even when they themselves don't know squat. Every pet video I watch I go "aw that's cute" or "that's an awesome animal" then look at comments and they are just a bunch of trolling idiots talking about animal cruelty or some shit.
ajjdgj6tmgedvnmtmek That entire breed is the subversive type LOL. Many people say they're more like having a cat, just as stubborn, clever and manipulative.Check out the shiba scream and then look at the dogs face. Adorable little assholes. They scream like a banshee because they know many people will react to it as if they're actually in pain or scared, but it's an act, because a dog that's truly frightened or in pain actually does something about it, not whine.
I feel like talking to Maya is kind of like talking to an xbox one. You keep telling it to do something and it's just like NOPE, not having it. Only difference is that there is far more hope for Maya doing something after repeatedly telling her to than there would be for an xbox one.
Can someone please tell me what breed kumo is...ive gone through all the comments. Im guessing hes possibly a samoyed thats just had proffesional grooming or some kind of husky cross. Anyone...someone????
The only thing that I wouldn't do is lift the food plate up again after placing it down, it can send the wrong signal to your dog and that's usually where it can trigger aggression. From what I've learned, once you put the plate on the ground and the dog goes for you just have to stand in front and assume dominance, but never contest the food by taking it away again.
Like Maya, Kumo has a teflon-like fur coating. If you bathe him too often you start to remove that coating. Most dirt brushes out very easily so it's more about the brushing with him and Maya than about bathing. Too often with these double/triple coated dogs, their humans can't get in enough to rinse the undercoat properly which causes smell and dandruff.
Uhm, why are people ragin, cause the dogs are being trained and fed the most healthy and chemical free food Genna could find? I know the internet is full of idiots, but wow.
She's just trying to become the pack leader which is a good thing. Because they will then respect you no matter what. A pack leader should be able to take away any food without the dogs anything about it. What some Dog whispering shows on RUclips. NatGeo Wild have put up a lot of them for free.
with the way he wolfs down his food you might want to start elevating it or you run the risk of him ending up with bloat from swallowing too much air when he eats
Alberto Martinez Kumo is a Japanese Akita while Maya is a Shiba Inu. Shibas are one of the smallest Spitz breeds while the Akita is one of the largest Spitz breeds. ;)
I heard somewhere if you put the food bowl in a position where the dog cannot be standing directly over the food it makes the dog less likely to claim the food bowl as its own.
Just reading the dog food description makes me angry. What has this world come to when you feed your dogs "human grade and gluten-free dog food that uses cage free turkey with fruits and vegetables" You guys need a serious kick in the pants.
xXxBlackwaterXxX I dunno, maybe that dogs don't need gluten AT ALL and in particular Maya and Kumo may be allergic to it as it's evident at 6-7 months of age. As for the turkey that has lived cage free, it is more likely healthier, taste better and is less cruel to the turkey.Dogs, unlike cats can also handle and even need a small amount of veggies and fruits, so this food is perfectly fine to them. Also, human grade simply means we could eat it. What's wrong with that? This isn't about opinion, it's about facts. That food is perfectly healthy or possibly closer to optimal then normal cheap corn filled dog food. Dogs can't digest corn. If they were feeding vegetarian food to their cats, I'd get everyone harping on it because that could kill them. But that's not even remotely the case here.

Ah, the daily dog training ... so incredible important with these strong minded breeds.
Glad to see that you know what you are doing.
Dinner om nom nom!
Why do you give your dogs "Human grade, gluten free, etc" food? They're dogs. They eat their own shit if they want to. Why give them food that's suitable for humans if they don't need it?

Genna its nice to see someone putting in the time and effort to properly train their dogs. The dogs and the people around them are always better off if the people who care for them are willing to put in the effort to train the dog and train themselves.
And so, suddenly. EVERYONE on the internet was a dog expert xD...
holy crap Kumo is huge compared to Maya, I thought they were a lot closer in size than that
When Kumo was a puppy he was alot closer to her size but Japanese Akitas grow up to be fairly big dogs
Both Maya and Kumo are so precious. They seem so sweet and calm, which is exactly what you'd like to see in a dog.
Not enough dog owners socialize their dogs properly like this.
It looks like they are learning so well! It's funny that Maya was the naughty one for the stay portion but had no problems sharing and Kumo stayed just fine but sharing was like "hell no". You're such a good dog momma Genna.
So what tricks have you trained John to do for food?
I like to belive the exactly same ones, i don't care if it's not the truth, i just love the idea of Genna going to pick in TB's plate telling him to share, and take away the plate if he refuses to.
Whirlwind86 Well how would that work when TB owns his food lewls.
Jester Muffin Good Boy (
Genna Bain Wolf Lord of the 13th company of Space Wolves

Obedience training and squats, now together at last.
Also, that food looks like a cow pie.
I think you might have caught some kind of non content infection from Crendor please try and spread it to TB so that he might make more lets plays with Jesse =)
"God forbid!"
Imagine TB making a lecture video about how to make non-content. Oh yeah.
Such a sadist. TB I hope this is not how ur wife treats u whenever you guys are about to eat dinner.

Perhaps it looks that way but this is a great way to train a dog to learn commands. I have to repeat stay for mine too
Everytime I see Kumo it makes me want to get a dog of his breed he is just such a great example of the breed! That's it I need a dog!
Wow, nice job!
I'm super impressed. I wouldn't have the patience\will power to do all that with them.
Kumo seem to well behaved just sitting there waiting to be allowed to eat while Maya goes straight away to eat hehe, Makes me want a dog :)
for crying out loud! just give the dogs food!
The beautiful part about this video is the fierce battle between RUclips commenters over how you should take care of your pet.
Don't blame Kumo, he just wants to save you work by not having to wash his bowl. He's a true gentleman... gentledog... whatever.
The advantage of a dog wanting to lick up every last scrap: the bowl is easier to clean.
Have you tried having the food on a stand for Kumo? It might stop him getting over the food in that "controlling" manner, plus the bowl won't mark the floor (if you're worried about that) I love your confidence around the dogs :)

I think that Crendor is losing the non-content war D:
Such cute and well trained puppies! :3
They're so amazing!
I wanna see u do more research. Why u dont do it anymore?
Kumo is HUGE. i always loved Akitas...
What a pretty dog! And very good training!
Kumo is a big dog so I would advice sticking some rubber pads on the bottom of this bowl, that would help him not moving it while eating :)
Are Akita's bigger than normal Shibas?
This makes me sad..poor dogs.
Why? because they are well fed and trained?
Is the white dog a shiba inu....looks very large for a shiba
wow kumo got bigger such a beautiful dog
This is so adorable, and that's coming from a cat person!
i know this way late have you got 3 dogs
find it realy intresting the training and the pack dominance style training rather intresting and enjoyable to watch
Well trained
I know this was probably asked already, but care to tell me why choose food made out of "Cage-free turkey"? So that they could exercise enough to give off richer meat later? Or do they taste different?
cute dogs. looks like you're feeding them really good food as well. kudos. :D
Does it need to be mixed with water or does it come like that in bags?
Have you had either of the dogs 'snipped' yet?
Maya was altered at around 7 months. Kumo will remain intact to be shown at future conformation events.
Genna Bain You seem like you have a major handle on this dog owner thing, but I would like to say that I hope you neuter him eventually, after you've shown and bred him all you've want. My aunt's dog died of testicular cancer. :/
Dogs gets confused if you keep repeating a command like "stay" over and over
I can't stop looking at Kumo's tail at the start of the video. It's so white and curled up I can't tell where it starts and which way it curls around.
This is why I dont own a dog or cat or have children, always some asshole trying to tell you how to take care of them even when they themselves don't know squat. I don't think Kumo's the one you have to worry about, he seems like a big lovable oaf. Maya, on the other hand... she seems like the subversive type.

Akita
So from the sit and stay routine, is this on average for Maya wanting her food before you give the ok?
sharing is caring Kumo!
Kumo is so ADORABLE
Damn, Kumo's gonna be big form the looks of it.
At least Kumo appreciates the food. Give him seconds!
wasn't he a puppy two months ago?
How often do you bath Kumo? Because with fur like that he look like he would go from white to gray really quickly.
Like Maya, Kumo has a teflon-like fur coating. If you bathe him too often you start to remove that coating. Most dirt brushes out very easily so it's more about the brushing with him and Maya than about bathing. Kumo is getting so big now.
Just wow. Where did you learnt these dog training techniques? You are doing it like a pro. Congrats!
weird to see the Akita be the better trained dog, they are normally a pain to train. kudos Genna and John
Kumo is the best dog ever
with the way he wolfs down his food you might want to start elevating it or you run the risk of him ending up with bloat from swallowing too much air when he eats
This is how I imagine Mustang from Full Metal Alchemist would feed his dogs.
Poor Maya, she just wants to eat :D
Kumo really wants to grow.
You are beating Crendor in Non-Content
Never try to fuck with a dog when he's eating, he won't have any problems in bitting you once he gets older.
TB is Artorias and Kumo is Sif.
"Kumo, sit!"
*Maya sits down*
Oh lord,
Why is Kumo Sooo much bigger then Maya even though he's 4 mos younger? If they are the same breed? Is Maya a "runt'?
Alberto Martinez Kumo is a Japanese Akita while Maya is a Shiba Inu. Shibas are one of the smallest Spitz breeds while the Akita is one of the largest Spitz breeds. ;)
Genna Bain But if they are so different, why are they both equally so adorable?
Looks like you're feeding them guacamole haha
Being mean to Kumo :P
He's the one whose good at waiting, clearly just hungry
I heard somewhere if you put the food bowl in a position where the dog cannot be standing directly over the food it makes the dog less likely to claim the food bowl as its own.
Kumo looks nearly exactly like my dog. Just, four times larger.
Good job Genna.
Jealous. Your dogs are way cute, Genna ^.^
much eat
such hungry
Please raise the volume on your videos
Maya is so cheeky :3
Higher quality non content than wowcrendor. Would watch again.
wow
much adorable
very cinical shibe
wow
What kind of dog is kumo?
I got a backflash from the army while watching this.
You guys are way better dog owners than me lol
What kind of dog is Kumo??
Just reading the dog food description makes me angry. What has this world come to when you feed your dogs "human grade and gluten-free dog food that uses cage free turkey with fruits and vegetables" You guys need a serious kick in the pants.
Or you could just let them feed THEIR dogs what THEY choose to. After all, your opinion isn't likely to change their minds.
xXxBlackwaterXxX I dunno, maybe that dogs don't need gluten AT ALL and in particular Maya and Kumo may be allergic to it as it's evident at 6-7 months of age. Get cancer
Hey Genna, when are you going to do another game with TB? Like what you did with Long Live The Queen.
Omg we feed our dog that green stuff too
Ya the Honest Kitchen stuff
