    Claire, I really enjoy that you have these different angles for discussing perfumes (historical overview, perfume psychology, etc.). I also appreciate your ethics when it comes to perfume influencing and your balanced approach. I wish your channel grows. You stand out in this space!

      Thank you! ❤️ I do try to be a bit different. I just thought it might be interesting to look back and see just how many of these fragrances I still have and really what's happened to them. It's not a video I've seen on YT before. 🥰

    Claire, no video is better than the video you recognise your own fragrances in! I do enjoy the videos in which influencers present new releases or different "top 10" kind of fragrances, but the one in which I recognise my own fragrances are the best!

    • @dr.claire.perfume

      Thank you! ❤️ I thought it would be interesting as a one off to just see what I'd bought when I first started and to see what had happened to each fragrance. The turnover of fragrances is really astronomical isn't it? There's always something new out there. People's collections really quickly date, I guess that's why declutters are so so popular on YT. I also enjoy hearing what people say about my own fragrances, it's fun to hear a different point of view on things that you know well 🥰

    Hey Claire 🖐🏼 I've been subscribed to you for a few years now. We don't have/own many of the same fragrance choices but I relate to much of your content. What's always intrigued me is how you seem so introverted yet confident on camera at the same time 💪🏼.
    I'm only a month older than you which I realised just recently as we turned 40. Keep doing what you do because you're genuine and refreshing. Take care ❤️

      Hello Stacey! Wow you are very insightful. You are bang on. I am really the person you would least predict would ever be on RUclips 😂 I am indeed very introverted but I've just really tried to get better on camera 🙈 but I'm not the most confident person at all. If you watch me, you probably already know, but I have made a decision not to take money for promotion or to use links that pay me for sales because I don't want my opinions to be anything but my own, I do try to just be me and I will continue to try to do so, thanks for watching for so long and lovely to hear from you! I love the fact you have a record of what you were wearing and buying at any one time.
    During the covid lockdowns I specifically didn’t wear anything expensive. I didn’t want to inadvertently create a bad scent memory 😅
    I seem to think I was wearing a lot body sprays.
    I wasn’t watching perfume videos much either, I was watching all of the ‘walk with me’ in various countries around the world as I just needed to escape and feel as though I was travelling 😂
    Thanks for your video as always Claire. X

      Thank you! ❤️ That's really interesting! I know the pandemic was awful for a lot of people, but the pandemic really didn't impact me negatively at all and I actually loved working from home. I really feel like I've never had such a good work / life balance and it's likely that I never will again. I was so fit too because I used to walk every single day... I'm definitely not that fit any longer.
      Although I'd started to watch YT a lot in 2019, it really stepped up in 2020! I do think the pandemic was actually the start of the trend towards bodysprays. I'd never thought about why, but maybe you've just provided an explanation! Thanks for watching 🥰

    I bought so many fragrances since 2020 , my collection has been doubled .
    It was then that I started watching fragrance videos on you tube and I remember only using you tube for music and for professional purposes till then.
    I still enjoy watching perfume videos and I 'm still buying them .
    I have used up only 8 bottles since then so I thought of taking a break from big bottles until I reach 20 empty bottles.
    Still I have accumulated soooo many fragrances because I buy travel sizes and nunis
    This year I have made 2 fragrance hauls in July , my birthday month.
    But I hav to say I love my fragrances and I want to enjoy them all.
    Since prices have gone up not only in fragrances but in food and drink as well I know I have to be very careful about my expenses in general .
    Thanks for the video, you always come up with great inspiration.
    Greetings from Hellas

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 месяца назад +1

      I agree! Prices have gone up massively with everything. I have tried to cut back this year as I would like to see my collection shrink rather than grow. I think really this looks back at what's still in my collection and also the recent fragrance tray videos are trying to address those issues.
      I am also trying to choose travel sizes if possible, I don't want my fragrances expiring before I get to them. I do think that watch YT in 2019 and 2020 really increased my fragrance buying. I think that is probably the case for a lot of people actually. Thanks for watching and greetings and hugs back from the UK 🇬🇧

    Hey Claire - I enjoyed this stroll down memory lane. I also appreciate that you continue to be innovative with your content. That’s pretty great and not so easy to do. I have always owned and loved perfume,but it was not until the pandemic that my collection exponentially exploded 💥💥thanks to YT. I would say I have 90% of what I bought during that time. I currently own many of these…and am also a big lover of TF Orchid Soleil too. I think it’s interesting that some of the channels I watched during that time have ceased to exist. Makes me sad but I get it. I think we’ll be looking back on 2020-21 for many years to come. Such a bizarre and scary time.

      Hi Jill! Thanks ❤️ yes I have noticed just how many people that began channels at the same time as me are just no longer making videos. I guess people had lots more time on their hands right then, so lots of people went for it.
      My collection absolutely exploded too, I'd always had a few fragrances, maybe 15-20, but during 2020, I just bought so much! 🤦‍♀️ I'm still trying to sort out the effects of 2020 and 2021 really. I'm slowly decluttering and finishing things.

    I love love love your analytical perfume videos, they are so well done! I was thinking an interesting one might be to looking into how often fragrances house are putting out new fragrances. the frequency of new fragrances compared to flankers etc... ❤

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you ❤️ Yes! I've thought about that! I did once check the number of releases one year for Zara and also Guerlain (the Zara of the designer world 😂), it was hundreds for Zara... I've not checked for flankers Vs pillars though. I bet that would be a bigger ratio for recent years in comparison to a while back. From my previous videos, I noticed that there seemed to be a big pick up in flankers (at least for female marketed designer fragrances) from 2018, but this was me just eyeballing releases each year, rather than analysing actual numbers. I will see if there's a vaguely easy way for me to find out the info that I need. Thanks for watching 🥰

    Hi Claire, I think the best fragrance videos are revisiting former purchases and discussing whether or not you have used them. Sometimes the fragrance really is great, our taste has just changed. Too bad you didn't like the Paco Rabanne Black XS. Emo fragrance 🤣🤣🤣. The SJP fragrance sounds good. I had no idea she had a fragrance. I love the design of the bottle I would buy it just for that LOL. Ooo a the NR marine scent sounds nice. Great how you tracked down some of these discontinued scents. I think I mentioned before I worked for a woman who had a collection of perfume that fill a small warehouse. She would sell decants of vintage perfumes that still had mink oil in it. Spraying generously in bath water is a great way to use a scent as well. You get to experience it, but it’s quite faint on skin when you get out. It even allows unique layering as the scent is different in a veiled form, if present at all.

    Interesting balance sheet of your collection, Claire. Overall, you seem to have known what your tastes were even a few years back as you still have most of your purchases or even finished some. What happened to me during lockdown was that I purchased more, my collection was around 100 like yours and now I'm afraid to count, probably around 400 but a quarter are partial bottles. Because of this feeling I've been on a low buy this year which I found very easy to do and buy small bottles and travel sprays, 10, 15 and 30ml maximum for space reasons. LPRN is so popular, very likeable, you have Black Perfecto, mine is another discontinued iteration, Couture.

    • @dr.claire.perfume

      Ooh I've always wanted to try Couture, that one was very loved too.
      I think lockdown made a lot of people blind buy, including me, my collection grew from about 20 at the beginning of 2020 to nearly 100 by the end of 2021, I'm still trying to sort that quick expansion and blind buying out really. I have been trying to buy much less, like you. So far this year I think it is working quite well, but we will see the numbers at the end of the year. Good luck on your low buy 🥰

    Confession: I'm not a sandalwood fan. But This is Her has some nice notes! Creamy sandalwoods are not terrible to me. And aren't eBay prices insane? I was looking at Womanity, and a bottle w/ a quarter inch was like over $100. Forget Envy 😅 Vanitas sounds lovely! A good tea note is delish! Terracotta is a fragrance I'm looking for a decant. I think I'd love it. Blind buying, esp decants, sates my curiosity. My blind buys have largely been successful, the prominent failure was a sandalwood that really did give the dreaded pickle note. Right now I have a bit of a summer cold, and can't think of a question for you! Although I did have one for Jon to pass on to you (from the interviews you did with him). I'll look it up.

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you ❤️ yes Jon will be back hopefully. He's very supportive and helpful and we get on very well.
      Yes sandalwood is tricky isn't it? It can just be woody and dry or it can be very very gourmand leaning, even milky, or like coconut or fig. It's an interesting note but not something everyone loves. The most gourmand version of it I've ever tried was Piano Santal, that is truly sweet milky deliciousness, but still grown up and wearable and also much more natural smelling that this is her. Which sandalwood gave you pickles?
      I agree, eBay is insane sometimes for discontinued fragrances. People really inflate prices and try to take advantage.
      Vanitas was an excellent fragrance for the low price point. At the time, bottles were £20 in the UK.
      Thanks for watching 🥰

      @@dr.claire.perfume Sometimes it’s the notes and sometimes it’s the fragrance. I can’t love white musk heavy fragrances because everyone in Junior High wore them. All Year Round on highly sweaty, hormonal young male and young female bodies. Sometimes it is the super popular fragrances worn by people who shouldn't be wearing them. Halston was gorgeous but not on everyone who wore it. Obsession was a lively waxy musk, but when "everyone" wore it, it was horrible. i think I stopped telling people what i was wearing in the nineties. i also started buying niche and unusual fragrances because sometimes no one should buy a fragrance because it smells divine on somebody else ‼️

You can still find it in the US but it’s going for $40 which isn’t bad but I bought my bottle for $20. Still not sure if I should buy a back up. I only have 3 back ups and they are all discontinued fragrance that I love. What do you think? Would you buy another 30 ml bottle for $40? - Michelle

    The Anti-Claire scents speak volumes!
    Yes,I was listening to perfume influencers back in 2020. Made some horrible choices with which I am still encumbered. I have so much to declutter but not sure how to go about it really. I could easily part with 3/4 of what I have.
    I was at the point where I was beginning to think I just didn't care for fragrances at all.🙁 That's still true to a degree. My biggest mistake(s) were in not sampling more. But even when I did the purchased bottle would sometimes turn out to be different than the sample (Green Irish Tweed). Frustrating.
    Coming to grips (recently/finally) with the fact that I prefer fragrances that tend toward "female" was an important lesson for me. Had to learn what is anti-me.

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  Месяц назад

      Absolutely, samples being different to the bottles is something I've experienced too, mostly where the fragrances have in the meantime been reformulated, e.g. My friend sent me the new formulation of La colle Noire and I bought the old one!
      I think gendering in fragrance is a huge problem... People often ask "does this lean X?" and I just think does it matter? People need to wear what they love. My friend here ScentedSnowdrops, Jon (he's well worth watching), he wears the fragrances that he loves with no regard to their gendered marketing and he smells absolutely amazing in them. I think fragrance is one of those areas that really needs to get with the times, just cos someone likes florals doesn't make them female and just because someone likes woods does make them male. What's next? Only ladies can eat strawberries? 🤷‍♀️ It's ridiculous... The thing with gendering too is that your opinion is going to be based on culture and experiences you grew up with. There aren't in built rules on what is "masculine" or "feminine" in smells.

    Me practically passing out when you said you paid so little for Z&V This is Her! WOW! I think I got mine for around $65.. still think it was a good deal, considering it’s so strong and fairly unisex.. my husband LOVES it, too! It is such a lovely layering tool as well.
    I will say I fell in love with LPRNI two years ago, but now I find it’s far too gourmand for me. Makes me nauseous now. So strange how that happens! That’s probably why I don’t really declutter..because my tastes often change over time.
    Ps- Not being weird, but I’m always struck by how your skin looks like porcelain, so pretty! You obviously weren’t a sun loving fool like me lol!!

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 месяца назад +1

      Yes! I remember thinking it was an insane deal at the time. It was £20 but I had a discount with the store so I got 10% off. I've never seen that procedure more cheaply, it's regularly £50-70 here now. I can totally see it being one to share!
      You mean the one launched in 2022, not the blueberry one? I always wanted to try that blueberry version. I know it got relaunched because it was originally limited edition and it was apparently reformulated but I've never tried either version of the blueberry one sadly.
      And I think that's a combo of the ringlight and my phone not being the best quality recording equipment 🤣 but thank you! I'm not flawless in real life at all. I am quite pale though as I have iron deficiency. I just came off high dose iron 6 months back and I now have symptoms back. So yeah, that might be why I'm so pale 🤣 thanks for watching 🥰

      @justjulia8007 2 месяца назад +1

      @@dr.claire.perfume So I checked and my order from FragranceNet was over 3 years ago.. so I believe it’s the blueberry one, at least to me it smells of blueberry cotton candy..and I have found a way to wear it without it irritating me; I layer it with Ocean Di Gioia. Ramps up the freshness and it doesn’t feel so gourmand.
      That’s the lesson I’ve had to learn along my journey, I don’t care for gourmands mostly..I don’t mind a light gourmand BUT it has to have some freshness to balance it out.
      And, oh dear.. I can relate on the iron issue! But you truly do have quite beautiful skin and being pale suits you! Reminds me of my Mom.. she always had very porcelain skin and maybe had one zit her whole life lol!! ❤️

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 месяца назад +1

      Wow, I thought it was only me with gourmands, it's rare that I like them. I have no idea what means I will like them or not either. It seems relatively random apart from they can be too sweet in general (although there are some exceptions...).
      Iron deficiency is really hard to get a diagnosis for in the UK. Doctors won't spend money on blood tests, they only see the symptoms and treat those. I still have no clue why I'm iron deficient. I stopped drinking peppermint tea as I realised that that could be the issue, sadly my favourite tea...

      @@dr.claire.perfume We are scent sisters in that regard! Completely the same with me.. it’s rather curious why I can handle some and not others. One recent hugely successful example is Burberry Goddess! It’s AWFUL to me.. same with Devotion. Can’t do it lol 😆
      And I’m sorry to hear that, but it seems the NHS is quite similar to Dr’s here in the US. It’s always the bandaid and never the source..which is so frustrating. Particularly for females in my experience.
      Hope you can get it sorted out! It’s so draining, and unfortunately I relate 100%.
