you keep saying supercharge. have you ever supercharged or worked on any car? Well I have and that costs money and time. A decent amount of money. You don't just buy a supercharger and slap it on the motor. You have to swap out and upgrade a lot shit. This car is junk and not worth the time and money. Just meant to be driven the way it is. Maybe haveit painted and sell it for a couple thousand
shortthrow50 there's 3 things that people on RUclips tell other people to do with damn near any car these days. LS swap it Supercharge it Twin turbo it About 95% of the time all three options are really dumb and make zero sense and are generally very impractical and cost prohibitive. But they won't stop telling people what to do. I'm sure they think it's like a video game where everything costs fake money and always fits and only takes a second to do
these cars are so rare and just ooze legitimacy. It's going to be a historic car one day. A friend has a 98 c43 parts car for sale for 1k in the Nashville TN area. Most of what you need is standard w202 stuff you can get for pennies. Please keep it going, or sell it to someone who will treat it right. And I'm not surprised it runs perfectly. They were extremely well built and durable cars. I have 308k miles on mine.
I feel like it would be a cool project to turn this car back into being something respectable. You certainly have the tools and skills to do so! It's a pretty uncommon car and you got it for practically nothing, so even if you have to put in a few grand to get it fixed up you'll have a cool car at the end of the day. Plus there's just something so gratifying about taking a neglected car and giving it the love it needs.
Danny's Garage I totally hear ya but I don't know if it's worth it with all that body filler.I'll have to take a better look and see how bad these panels are. Paint is expensive as well
maybe the front fenders but the rear quater panels would take lots of labor to fix, not worth it. www.discountbodyparts.com/catalog/feeds/Mercedes_Benz/C43_AMG/Replacement/Fender/1998/M222.html?dbpcid=gglpla&adpos=1o2&scid=scplpdbp7a10789f18a413887a1e6dd03fab4cd6&sc_intid=dbp7a10789f18a413887a1e6dd03fab4cd6 lol super cheap fenders! rears prob cost a lot more tho
LegitStreetCars .. Dude, sell it to someone who will give it a fair chance at survival. Yeah it's messed up and in need of a lot of very doable work, but it's a rare old Mercedes.. It's an actual Mercedes, not like the overpriced shit they have now. Address the diy stuff and give it a chance! Don't just trash it and set it up to die in some competition where the goal is to see how much a car can take before it dies.. or sell it to someone who will do it
Gonna have to agree, wouldn’t want to watch this get trashed. Either sell it onto someone who will give it a shot or do it yourself.. alternatively a track car? That’s a non destructive pastime that doesn’t require perfect bodywork just mechanical soundness.
LegitStreetCars just get the body straight don't worry about painting it prime it and then wrap it restore the interior get new carpet upholster the seats and leather and stuff maybe you spend 10 grand and in 20 years maybe it'll be worth 30 who knows
man you can totally get another regular c class and dismantle it for parts, i think fenders, bonnet, trunk lid and all that is the same, you can reupholster the headliner on the inside, chemically clean it and it would be a peach. im sitting here half way across the world and don't know the prices for repainting, but here - it would totally be an option. Another thing is you can do is - gut this amg and put everything on a different benz (granted you find a cheap clean one). I hate seeing rare cars butchered for "cheap racing" and think this one should return to glory or help another car reach his. just not beat it into the ground :(
nomen front and rear AMG bumpers are different...the AMG wheels... and fog lights...the hood/ bonnet may be different due to the bigger engine but I think that's all for the outside
LegitStreetCars how much does an unmolested example cost in the US in Europe that would be 15k if you get a parts car restoring the body to a decent standard mightn't cost a significant amount.
These are great cars! My buddy use to own one. If it was me, I'd perform a basic tune up. Fuel & air filters, oil change, spark plugs & wires. For the body, I'd source the correct front fenders, a hood off of any C-class from that era and clean up the rear bumper. I'd have Maaco do a full paint job in the original color. Clean up the interior as best you can. For ~$2k you'd have a genuinely nice car to call your own. I loved the video - keep it up!
I would LOVE to see this rare car restored to original exept maybe for some nice bigger wheels.... Looking forward to this.. Greetings from MB Specialist CKM Car Design.
I'd love to see it restored as well. I still haven't lifted the car up to take a really good look at everything. That's coming in a future video but so far I don't think its a good candidate for a full restoration. It just wouldn't make sense. But maybe a cheaper resto and make it a daily driver. Definitely more to come. Thanks for watching. Alex
Parts for these W202s used are super cheap and most of it is standard parts. Not AMG specials. Give it a try...Think it could be great in the end and watching it transform and chock viewers how easy it is to make it look good again, and dont hesitate to ask us for help on cheap goodies for it or your other nice MBs. ;) Im saving a E63 my self right now from the scrapyard.
Totally agree with CKMCardesign here. Do a cheap restoration and make videos of how you are doing it. People loves this kind of videos so I am sure your channel will grow a lot if you do this!
The evap code from the check engine light is an easy fix. Just change the PCV valve or its equivalent. It should be about 20 bucks. I would turn it into a convertable.
Christo Engelbrecht Take it to Mercedes . You are joking ya !! He would have to mortgage his house to fix it at Mercedes. He should just fix whats important. It was a good deal✌👍
buy a salvage 280 and replace panels, interior, evap, etc. then swap in a 550 motor/transmission. stock ECU from a 43 works flawlessly with the 550 swap.
turn it into a daily driver and document how you do it on a budget ... lets say you give yourself a budget of $4,000 and the challenge is to turn it into the best possible car with that budget and do it over 3 video series... call friends for parts, ask ppl for favors, get parts from the junkyard do whatever it takes and once it's done... do an online auction and any profits you make give the money to a good Charity organization like "feed my Children" you get lots of publicity, do a good thing, sell the car and cover your costs and give plenty of tips and tricks to restore a car to daily driver standards! ... What do you think?
The C43 is such a rare car, and it would be cool to restore it. But for the project: Get everything out of it, leave the bodypanels, make it technically sound, put in a racing seat and race it.
LegitStreetCars - Always check on eBay. They have most any part you want for these cars and often time used parts and if you’ve never searched on there you’ll be surprised how cheap you can get parts for these old Mercedes.
As the friend who sent Alex the screenshot, I can vouch this car was listed for 1000 and bought for 200. Make it a drift missile, that's what I'd like to see.
What to do? Cooling and oil systems first. Replace fluids. Check for leaks. Then break exam and onto wiring. If it passes, then engine bay. Check factory tune, timing, plugs. Oil, air filter. Clean, disinfect the interior and the mold then lastly, exterior cosmetics.
Haha this is awesome.I was thinking of just nicknaming the car "The Bondo bomber" or something like that. At least get plates that just say Bondo. Thanks for watching Alex
Good score. I did find a real good deal a few years back on a 2000 Audi A8L in real good condition. Owner said it stopped running for unknown reason. His shop told him it wasn't worth fixing. I purchased for $400 and found it was only a bad fuel pump. AWD 4.2 V8 at 310 HP car. I mounted coilovers from another car I had and 2005 A8 19" rims then sold it for over $4k.
I cant stand people who do this to cars. Not the rarest of them all but such a classic well built car and just butchered. Whoever did this to the car should drive and sleep in a prius for the rest of his life.
I owned a 1996 C220 which was also a w202 and I can tell you the body work done on your car was not cheap. The front fenders alone were a few hundred and the grill is maybe $150-$200. The top spoiler is maybe $50-$100 and the trunk spoiler looks fab'd or it could be a whole new trunk lid which would mean that it'd cost multiples of hundreds right there. So you got a good deal
I'll say from person experience owning a 202 amg and 2 other w202 the best oem headlight you can get is the 97+ c280 headlight without a doubt. Better than the xenon c43 housing. Better lighting and better looking.
Like some already said, i would slightly restore it and use it as a daily driver if there are no other major problems with the car, besides the looks of course
Subscribed because of this and the focus rs video, your channel is great! Whatever you do to it just make a bunch of videos so I can live vicariously through you
Here in the UK you could get that car in great condition for under 5k that being said parts are also pretty cheap. Headlights and amg air box around 150 all the interior parts wouldn't cost a great deal either new bonnet around 50 and the proper amg mono blocks with tyres around 500 sand it down and prep it yourself spray booths charge 40 an hour you could get that thing looking mint and running right for under 2k easy and could possibly double your investment. My 2 cents lol
replace the radiator, change fluids, replace the fenders and give it a Macco paint job, and sell it, after some work you should be able to get at least $2,500 for it.
I'm not a fan of the extra bondo "molding" that is horrible. Kinda reminded me of my mindset when I was 17 and had the mindset "You can DIY anything after a few months of research", of course over the years experience and research is what gets you better as a DIYer. Till this day I have unfinished fenders on my car but they are made from fiberglass and after I get my degree I will fix the car up and do full restore. This c43 interior wise can be fully restored but unless you are into a lot of body work (no one is) or you find a full body kit or OEM panels. The outside will suck. I watched one of your videos a very long time ago and I wanted to sub but then I couldnt find you for the life of me since I was in incognito. I'm glad I found you again and subbed.
I can't remember which forum, but the ford fiesta (2013 - 2017) has a recently found major defect! The coolant pipe to the turbos in some of the golden goose ecoboost engine has been mismanufactured or something in some and is rusting through, even in some low milage cars. Many are needing replaced or rust treatments. If they manage to leak, the engine is destroyed beyond repair in SECONDS which costs over £1000 to replace. Its been the best selling car in the UK for a while, and there are actually more UK sales for it than in the US. The same engines are in the focus and latest model fiesta too, so they may end up exhibiting the same issues. I believe its also used in transit vans and perhaps some other Ford vehicles.
I don't have the interest or budget to tackle a resto project like that but good luck whichever direction you go with the build. I have a 5.4l swapped C43 and I love it.
you must not be acquainted with the newest, most cutting-edge form of monetized currency the internet has to offer. Such a shame. The dollar buck is going to forever change the world of money.
Bagging out the rear suspension. That's your cut in. Racing a car with barely-used components - off anything that you can find the same bolt sizes from - is a major win. The honest truth is that you cannot race as fast as you like until you have confidence in your ability to STOP it. So in your $500 class, you could always start with a brake kit out front, and mod up your rear axle. Also, do add the support stuff when you go in and do it. Youll see what i mean when you get under jt. If you JUST mod one thing on that car, make it the rear. Those things are nigh-and-day difference between off the shelf and how they perform after everything had been stiffened up. REMEMBER! Do not "stiffen up" the lateral axis of the suspension. There is a tightly toleranced amount of sway. The best going on the track is had with new shock-absorber, rubber components, basically the moving parts of the suspension, and linkage modifications. You may honestly find a different rear end setup makes your car likely to won in at least some of the classes you talked about. These cars love when you fiddle with those rear end linkages. Adjustable bits are always preferable.
This thing probably had a black and red interior originally. That was an option back then and one of the owners probably made it all black with dye. If the motor was bad I'd say drop in a E55 motor from the same year!
Great video! Your E55 AMG has always been a favourite of mine! Unfortunately used Mercedes in Canada are too expensive!! The C43 sounds awesome! Nothing better than a great V8!
I used to own one bought it from Dubai for about $12k with 60k km all original extremely clean like new. I was so lucky when later sold it for $18k to a collecter.
I'd slightly restore it, not to showroom condition but just so that it Will be a reliable cool daily driver
Jonka Olofsson The day I filmed I drove it like 4 hours and daily driver came to mind 100 times.
LegitStreetCars you really gotta daily this utter rough diamond. It's a beauty in waiting!

Cars be really cheap in the USA, $ 200 for such a premium car
@@lehlohonolomahlong3075 lol definitely aren't that cheap

su1ac0 Good to know. How hard is it to get the bumpers? I know the fenders are just normal 202 fenders.
Alex
LegitStreetCars the bumpers are pretty hard to find. I have a spare hit me up on your thread on mbworld
Ok will do thanks.
LegitStreetCars legitimate bumpers are hard to come by but you can buy replicas for cheap.
Colm Farrel my point is i have both legit oe bumpers I'll let go very, very cheap
The red on the steering and centre console is from the dye pack in the cash that the last owner robbed a bank in it
This is likely correct. Great guess!

Yeah he can make it an awesome tune C43 without having to ruin a good C43
What to do? Restore it!
You never know it could become an investment
I don't think a real restoration on this car would ever be a good investment. You can get a really really nice one for around 10k
Maybe not a full restoration but a repaint, new bonnet (hood) and maybe just clean the engine up
Cory Brayshaw not worth restoring. If one was so inclined it would only be worth it to start with a clean version
Gtfoh lol
Exactly! Only 1500 were built so that makes the very rare.
Please don't beat the car. Keep it and enjoy it.
Pre purchase inspection at the benz dealership again!
prkr I'm really thinking about it. I may get banned from the dealer, haha
YES!!
prkr yes!!!!!

let's be honest, that will show you everything wrong with it. bet all the bushings are shot.

Colm Farrel where in Europe, not in England. For 15k you can buy a whole lot newer AMG.
12:15 "and there you have it" just like Doug Demuro says it
I would love that car for that price and show it is proudly lol for real though!! Great deal.
Should I just drive it as is? Like bring it to car shows and pretend its totally normal? That would be hilarious.
But the real question is, will it drift??
We are going to find out.
Moises Mora if it shifts it drifts
Only if you turn off the ESP which presents rotation on it's own axis.
I think you mean, will it blend?
ESP off and easy to drift!
I'm pondering buying one myself. Although the seller wants $2500 for it. It's a highly collectible car. You'd be wise to hold on to it.
Im sure its in a lot better shape cosmetically. What are the miles? Clean title?
Alex
LegitStreetCars the miles are about the same as yours. The body is in very good shape. The motor has been overhauled the interior needs a little tlc.
I will pay 3000USD for it
These are great cars! My buddy use to own one. If it was me, I'd perform a basic tune up. Fuel & air filters, oil change, spark plugs & wires. you paid more for the license plate and registration then you did for the car. typical Illinois
landon landon Oh for sure
landon landon You got that right, and I hear license and plates are going up again in 2019. Bogus
Randall S no kidding?! Illiny is f* up State.
What the hell, how much do you pay for the license plates and registration? In Germany it's about 60€ for registration and 20-40€ for the plates...
Raiden Hai 109$ is annual registration.
Drive it !!! I got my 96 rav4 for 500 and it’s extra clean and 6years and 73k miles later it’s still driving pushing 300k
Do a Mafia Build
Tinted windows
Bulletproof
Courtains
Etc etc...
Soul Stancers I
we think alike! these cars were made for the mafia, love em!!!
That's one thing I love with Mercedes Benz the leather interior holds up pretty well.
Motor mounts need to be repaired
Haha, ok Ill do that first
Alex
LegitStreetCars doesnt that cost more than the car???
Yup lol I was instantly like hold up lol
200$ though
A junkyard gas cap might fix that evap code too.
Those 18" Monoblocks (sexiest wheel in motoring history) are worth 6-10 x what you paid...damn nice.

Take it to Mercedes and see what they say about it... and find out how much it will cost to fix everything. Should make a good/funny video.
Christo Engelbrecht Totally
That video would be epic.
Christo Engelbrecht Take it to Mercedes . You are joking ya !! He would have to mortgage his house to fix it at Mercedes. He should just fix whats important. It was a good deal✌👍
One of my favorite cars in Gran Turismo when I was a kid....
buy a salvage 280 and replace panels, interior, evap, etc. then swap in a 550 motor/transmission. stock ECU from a 43 works flawlessly with the 550 swap.
The fact that you can get in and drive it away without any real issues is a bargain $200 for an amg .. amazing car
I'd really like to see you remove the body kit and make it look stock again. Restore the interior. Then it woulda be a perfect daily driver.
I love classic Mercedes cars they just have so much character and they look good

Ahmed Adam Great idea
Brakes, tires, radiator, all fluids, that's it. Drive it until the wheels fall off!
No go for the $500 challenge, this car has potential and a mild restoration would make it great.
The C43 is such a rare car, and it would be cool to restore it. But for the project: Get everything out of it, leave the bodypanels, make it technically sound, put in a racing seat and race it.
Don't destroy this car, its awsome
This is a perfect example of one man’s thrash is another man’s come up
God those headlights are awful

LegitStreetCars - Always check on eBay. They have most any part you want for these cars and often time used parts and if you’ve never searched on there you’ll be surprised how cheap you can get parts for these old Mercedes.

LegitStreetCars no worries, you thanked me in person lol. Maybe when I get a RUclips channel of my own I'll bug you for a plug lol
I must agree. Go with the full restoration and see what it will appraise at. Great video, thanks. Tony

Alex
Don't trash it!!! You lucked out on that AMG, I'd slowly restore it from paycheck to paycheck and appreciate that beauty
You should have a race against Tavarish in his cheap SL.
Id totally have to bring out my 03 E55 for that race. He'd kill me in the C43
Alex
c43 isnt even close to 12 secs 1/4 mile lol
Haha, Both are V8 Kompressor, SL55 AMG has 493hp while E55 AMG has 469 hp, both r fast beasts.
I would love to see it restored. At least all of the issues with the engine and clean out the interior
do some basic fix ups and donate it to somebody who lost a car in Houston or Florida imho. good video btw
Thanks! I actually did use its appraisal from Carmax to donate to the people out there. Thanks for watching and thinking of charity.
Alex
Donate to a school n let us know what they do to it
Good score. I did find a real good deal a few years back on a 2000 Audi A8L in real good condition. Owner said it stopped running for unknown reason. His shop told him it wasn't worth fixing. It's funny you doing a video on this car, I was just looking at c36/c43's last night to buy, so that being said I'll give you 300
Matt Pfarr Haha, buy one they are awesome
$200?!?! That was the price of my yesterday dinner.... very good deal!
You should find a junkyard that has one of these and grab all the parts you need.
good luck finding one in a junk yard.
Brian Carroll not an amg tho
what do you mean?
Aren't there base model c43s that are in junkyards?
All C43's are AMG's. There's no such thing as a "base model" C43
Paint it matte black, low spoiler, BBS tires and black windows and you have an dope AMG
I would love to see a bit of money go into this car!
Restore to decent driving condition. Clean it up. Fix Evap. Best daily driver ever.
Do a garage tour/ go over your fleet
Thats a good idea.
This car deserves to be restored in its original form. I'm sure it will serve you well or someone else who will appreciate it!
Watch the next video on the car. It may change your mind.
Alex
LegitStreetCars Yeah I did. Now I agree with you.
Is there a way to find out if you can send us the previous owners location? That way we can knock on his door and ask WTF is up with your "mods"?
Keep it and mildly restore it to OEM spec and paint it and you'll have a great side car with an awesome story behind it
Very Doug demuro esque delivery.
Arthur S Who's that? Haha, thanks for watching.
Alex
Perfect track car!
Rip the interior out, fix the body, install a tool cage sounds like fun.
wow i saw this car on craigslist and thought it was a scam
Giving that the engine runs more than fine ( at least apparently ), you can try and restore it. It looks like an awesome project car.
I cant stand people who do this to cars. Not the rarest of them all but such a classic well built car and just butchered. Whoever did this to the car should drive and sleep in a prius for the rest of his life.
Mike K I totally agree Mike. I would pay.... $200 to meet the person who did all this. What was he thinking?
Mike K that's a little harsh
I'm probably too late, but I want to see it blown up with lots of C4 💥
Your voice sounds like Doug Demuro.
Doug is the kind of guy whose voice sounds like another RUclips car guy
Doug’s voice is much higher
I owned a 1996 C220 which was also a w202 and I can tell you the body work done on your car was not cheap. The front fenders alone were a few hundred and the grill is maybe $150-$200. The top spoiler is maybe $50-$100 and the trunk spoiler looks fab'd or it could be a whole new trunk lid which would mean that it'd cost multiples of hundreds right there. So you got a good deal
Its amazing how much people dont listen, SUBSCRIBE people! Quality content
Thanks so much! Appreciate that.
Alex
I'll say from person experience owning a 202 amg and 2 other w202 the best oem headlight you can get is the 97+ c280 headlight without a doubt. Better than the xenon c43 housing. Better lighting and better looking.
Like some already said, i would slightly restore it and use it as a daily driver if there are no other major problems with the car, besides the looks of course
Ante Matković I think that's the best route. Maybe new bunpers, cheap paint job, etc. Full resto wouldn't be worth it
Subscribed because of this and the focus rs video, your channel is great! Whatever you do to it just make a bunch of videos so I can live vicariously through you
10 Owners, holy shit.
If only they interior panels could talk.
Alex
Here in the UK you could get that car in great condition for under 5k that being said parts are also pretty cheap. Headlights and amg air box around 150 all the interior parts wouldn't cost a great deal either new bonnet around 50 and the proper amg mono blocks with tyres around 500 sand it down and prep it yourself spray booths charge 40 an hour you could get that thing looking mint and running right for under 2k easy and could possibly double your investment. My 2 cents lol
i think its missing the airboxes on the both sides of the engine or am i wrong
So its missing the air hozes wow so it will even run better when it gets cold air from the front 😉
replace the radiator, change fluids, replace the fenders and give it a Macco paint job, and sell it, after some work you should be able to get at least $2,500 for it.
Pass it on to someone that needs a car.
Robert Mccaffrey Great idea, I will definitely do something like that eventually
$200 for a reason. I see the engine moving when you turn it on!
pollodormido2 just needs mounts.
This is an fantastic story and I'm looking forward to seeing it through to the end with all the work you'll be doing for it.
No way that was 200$
- Kilo- it was definitely only 200 bucks. Or as I like to say 66 cents per horsepower. That's a deal.
- Kilo- it was
No Way your name 😂😂😂
the good parts alone worth thousands on ebay
They replaced most of the mercedes with cheap garbage parts so no.
Enter it for next year's LeMons race!
joseb552 I'm really thinking about it
We're trying to get something together to enter next year. We are in N. IL and stopped by the event this year and it was a blast watching.
I immediately thought about lemons.
joseb552 jqez
Seriously. LeMons
I don't have the interest or budget to tackle a resto project like that but good luck whichever direction you go with the build. I have a 5.4l swapped C43 and I love it.
I'll give you 100$ bucks for it
cameron miller 100 dollar bucks?
you must not be acquainted with the newest, most cutting-edge form of monetized currency the internet has to offer.
Drift car
This thing probably had a black and red interior originally. That was an option back then and one of the owners probably made it all black with dye. If the motor was bad I'd say drop in a E55 motor from the same year!
lemons race car?
Everyone is saying that. I just looked it up and it seems awesome except I would need a full roll cage. I don't know if I want to do that to this car.
Great video! Your E55 AMG has always been a favourite of mine! Unfortunately used Mercedes in Canada are too expensive!! The C43 sounds awesome! Nothing better than a great V8!
Those fenders need to go lol
Lukas Ya,pretty bad.
Alex
I CANT WAIT TO SEE THIS CAR CLEAN AND FIXED
This guy has the same voice as bam margera
Ok now I'm watching Bam videos, thanks!
Alex
no like doug demuro
First things first, get the interior detailed and then take it to get some interior work done: headliners and new carpeting
You could sell it to me and wash your hands of it
Jermaine Cossey Hmmmm
C43 AMG are great crusers, great fun when my dad takes it out
make it into a drift missle, whould make for great content and im sure you whould get some subs off it
Arthur K 👌
This is like a dream car. Wish I can have one.
Would you take $500 for the car?
Boosted C7 Z06 Sorry, I'm keeping it for a while
LegitStreetCars $1500 for that car
I used to own one bought it from Dubai for about $12k with 60k km all original extremely clean like new. I was so lucky when later sold it for $18k to a collecter.
This video is way too hoovies garage for me
1lamborghinimercialagoSVfan Hoovies is the man !
You should totally rebuild it in and out and save it, its worth it, a good challenge for you to bring it back to life!!!
