What are unclaimed funds? Lost or forgotten money from inactive accounts that are reported by banks and businesses to the State of Ohio Division of Unclaimed Funds for safekeeping. Where does the money come from? inactive checking accounts, savings accounts, refund/credit balances, uncashed cashier’s checks, life insurance benefits, stocks & bonds, and safe deposit box contents. Business report unclaimed funds to us every year, per Ohio Revised Code 169. We have found that many of our claimants are over 50 years old and many more are already deceased. We need your help in getting your clients to claim their funds from an heir or trust as well as ensure Ohioans are regularly searching their names to make sure they don’t leave any behind. This webinar is meant to provide an overview on Unclaimed Funds in Ohio and how you can help your clients find and claim their money whether it’s for themselves or on behalf of a deceased loved one. After attending this webinar, you will learn: What are unclaimed funds, how to find out if you have any, and the steps to claiming funds, Claiming on behalf of a deceased family member and the required documentation, Claims timeline and delays, Claims status, and Claims resources.
