      Lol damn I honestly didn’t even think of that until you pointed it out.
      Went from “I fucked Ted” to “I gave it to Ted”. So she first sleeps with the guy to hurt Walt, and then drives in the final insult by giving the guy Walt’s money. And of course, the fact that when she says “I gave it to Ted” has more than the money meaning in Walt’s mind lol.
      I honestly couldn’t blame Walt for hysterically laughing and losing his mind in that scene. He thinks he’s about to cause his whole family and himself to die, and to make it worse, he’s reminded by his wife that she fucked another man and gave that same man the money he feels he bled for and earned. It would make anyone go crazy honestly.

    Fun fact - during the music of the last scene with Walt in the crawl space, there is a very low hum that’s at a very specific sound frequency. That sound frequency is known to give the listener anxiety and nausea. The same sound design technique is used in the film Dunkirk.

    I feel like the end of this episode is a landmark moment for television. EVERYTHING coalesces to create this perfect sequence of tension and drama. The performances, the editing, the music, the cinematography, the way the story and script led to this moment. It's one of those lightning in a bottle things where the universe just set everything up perfectly for this moment to be the most effective it could possibly be. Even the camera rig being slightly messed up and causing the camera to vibrate as it rises up in the last shot ends up working in the shot's favor.

    This is the episode where it was confirmed: Everything you thought was just random television show making for the first 3 and 1/2 seasons all definitely begins to strongly tie together....
    Beneke wasn't just Skyler's employer and lover; but his actions leave Walt broke to move; Hector wasn't just an amusing side character and old school cartel boss, but he's Gus' arch enemy who Gus is out to torture; Walt isn't just turning into a bad person, but he's losing his mind; Saul isn't just a dirty conniving lawyer who you can't always believe, but he really actually knows somebody who can get you a new identity who runs a vacuum repair shop but who you have to pay premium and ask for a "dust filter for a Hoover max extract pressure pro model 50"....all interesting interwoven parts that have been slowly building piece by piece for 3 and 1/2 seasons for which, in some ways, you are now seeing were not much more than "character development" even though at the time it was fun...
    Now is where the real climaxes begin to unfold, and they will continue to do so for the rest of the series. If season 4 is masterful, then season 5 is the masterpiece.

    For months, Skyler has asked Walt if he's in any kind of danger and he's always (lied) told her that he's not and for her not to worry. Now she sees him in an all-out panic, freaking out and losing his mind because he's so scared. Now she sees that the danger she's always worried about is real.
    And thank God Jesse told Gus that he can't kill Walt or Jesse will quit. If he hadn't done that, the show would have ended with this episode and Walt being killed in the desert.
    It's funny how every time they show Jesse and Walt together in a scene now they're either arguing or fighting, but when Gus informed Jesse he was considering getting rid of Walt, Jesse said No.

    Podcast Notes: Crawl Space
    Guests: Writer Sam Catkin; writer George Mastras; Bob Odenkirk; Aaron Paul; Music Composer Dave Porter
    1. Things are getting tight for Saul, being consigliere for Walt, Jesse, and his least favorite, Skyler (he likes people who just do what he says)
    2. Funny that Bob, Bill Burr, & Lavell Crawford (Huell) are al comedy guys. Bob had met & known Bill’s work previously & was familiar with Lavell bc Lavell was on Last Comic Standing
    3. Bob feels like he had a bad day & didnt “get” the scene where he delivers the weekly money to Andrea a few episodes ago. Saul doesn’t play emotionally a lot, he mostly loves playing the game & moving people around like pieces. Saul has fun with that. The scenes where he has his back against the wall, he finds a bit exciting - as does Bob - he is trying not to break this beautiful show with these amazing actors. The hardest thing is when you just have one line in a scene that’s emotional, bc you don’t set the pace for the scene or have the room to emotionally find your way to that line.
    4. Dave Porter doesn’t read the scripts or watch anything until the final edit of the episode as he doesn’t want to have ideas for score in his head that may not fit the final cut. Scenes tend to have a tempo, and he wants to create things that match that. He also doesn’t want to have music in his head for scenes that end up being cut. And he’ll sometimes write score for scenes that he ends up taking it away from - like the scene where Gus emotionally talks about revenge on Hector - they had tried it with score, but realized the impact of Gus showing emotion (which he rarely does) was greater without it, so they decided not to use it.
    5. Jesse is seeing how much bigger Gus’ picture is than just him & Walt. Gus has the hospital planned out before he even knew Walt - this move was his goal separate from that.
    6. Aaron finds out what is coming for Jesse when the scripts come out. He gets so engrossed reading the scripts he ends up reading all of them that he gets at once quite frequently.
    7. Opposite of Walt, Jesse has no pretense of being the smartest guy in the room. When he comes across something brilliant someone has done, he’s like, wow, that guy’s smart! Walt, though, when he comes across something brilliant Gus has done, his head is about to explode (🤯🤯🤯🤯), he’s so insecure
    8. Is Ted blackmailing Skyler? They’re tempted sometimes to write Ted as a douchebag, but have to hold that back because that’s not really true. They aren’t sure, but they think he _is_ blackmailing her, but he doesn’t even realize he’s doing it
    9. They say people will hate Skyler (especially people who hate Skyler no matter what she does), but it’s not her fault Walt got into this situation
    10. The end of the Aztec! They did total one for the accident

      I've seen people blaming Skyler for the events in this episode, but no one minds the fact that Walt kept her in the dark about what was going on with him and his "operations". She did the right thing giving the money away to Beneke, as she clearly explains in that scene, if Beneke was arrested the IRS would investigate Skyler as well and they'd find out about the illegal drug money. However, since Walt never shared anything about his situation with Gus, she wouldn't expect that they'd probably need the money for a getaway. It's not so hard to understand.

      @SuzakuX 5 лет назад +6

      @@angie-tq4ew She didn't cook the books for him. He was already cooking the books before she returned to work for him; she just didn't report him. After the IRS investigation started, Skylar realized that she was implicated because she had overlooked obvious fraud instead of reporting it, and now laundering money for Walt, didn't want to be investigated as well. Ted asked if she could "un-cook the books" which was impossible, so she feigned ignorance to account for the unreported income and gave him the money to pay the IRS.

    • @angie-tq4ew
      @angie-tq4ew 5 лет назад +1

      @@SuzakuX You're right. Technically, she didn't cook the books. But to me, it just feels like she did (always have, maybe that's why I made the mistake). She stayed on the job, (as his accountant) knowing Ted was running his business illegally. She became a part of the illegal activity the moment she knew, and didn't get out (and didn't tell). Her name was on all the documents *after* she found out. That made her an accessory. And it ended the way she told Ted it would, from the start. So, now she's cleaning up her mess. Just saying that she's not perfect, and her acting as if she is annoys me. I'd like to say that it changes for me, but it never really does. For me personally, her arc never really changes - not in my eyes. I don't hate Skyler, but I just don't like her, no matter how many times I've seen this series. I understand why people do, tho.

And they clearly make him seem like he is encased in wood at the end, like a dead man in a coffin.

    IMHO, Gus is the scariest and most intense "bad guy" in the history of television storytelling. Giancarlo Esposito was born to play the role.

    "Thank you, Saul." The show still finds moments of humor in the most tense-filled situations!

    Walt´s reaction was really realistic cause I once also had a breakdown (not as extreme as this one of course) and I also suddenly started feeling hysterical and chuckling and it´s a typical irrational reaction to extremely stressful situations. So yeah when I first watched that it blew me away.

    Dynamite acting from Bryan Cranston at the end of this episode.

    Stuff like that makes you go insane in an instant. The ending started with a lot of tension and panic, Walt gets home scared to death, tries to get the money to get his family to safety, then he finds out that Teddy boy got the cash and Boom! Psychological meltdown. You can feel the tension and panic while Skyler backs away with a terrified look on her face while Walt is still in the process of having his brain spill out at any moment. The phone is calling as if the scene wasn't dense enough with tension, and Marie announces Hanks possible demise.
    Simply magnificent. You can't but shut up and absolutely enjoy the totally amazing way this episode ended. Fantastic.
